Georgia’s loss to Auburn on Saturday ended with Bulldogs quarterback Aaron Murray out of the game after taking a blow to his left knee, and there was no definitive word Sunday on the extent of the injury.
Coach Mark Richt indicated after the game Saturday night that he did not believe the injury was serious, and Murray seemed to be walking fine as he made his way to the locker room.
But on his regular Sunday evening teleconference with the media, Richt had no update on any injuries, including Murray’s.
With Georgia having an open date this week, the team and staff were given a day off on Sunday, and Richt, who conducted the conference call from home, said he had not met with director of sports medicine Ron Courson.
“I’m not going to talk about injuries in this conference,” Richt said. “I’m just going to hold off on that. I’ve got to get a clear picture from Ron . . . When I get with Ron, I’m sure we’ll have a discussion and will have a better idea of what is going on in that regard.”
Murray was on the sideline for the final five plays of Saturday’s game after his knee was jarred in a collision with the helmet of Auburn defensive tackle Nick Fairley.
“We don’t think there was any kind of structural damage [to the knee],” Richt said in his postgame news conference Saturday night. “We think it was more just a blow on the knee, the bone or whatever. He actually wanted to go back in and play. He was able to. I just told him no.”
Murray was not available for interviews after the game because he was receiving medical attention. Later in the night, he posted on Twitter: “Knee is all good, just gotta get some sleep and [I'll] be feeling good.”
Murray took a battering throughout the game, mainly from Fairley.
Asked Sunday if he took issue with some of Fairley’s hits, Richt said: “That’s another subject I’m not going to make a comment on right now.”
Tensions boiled over near the end of the game, and two Auburn players, defensive end Michael Goggans and defensive tackle Mike Blanc, were ejected for throwing punches.
“Just really disappointed in that,” Auburn coach Gene Chizik said after the game. “That’s a lot of reflection on us as coaches, and I am embarrassed by it. That’s not who we are.”
Richt said Sunday he had not heard from Chizik since the game and does not expect or need to.
“I know our guys were highly emotionally charged also, so I’m not going to sit here and try to say their guys were doing one thing and our guys were doing another,” Richt said. “I had enough concern about what was going on that we took a knee on that last play [of the game] just to try to defuse what was happening out there.”
++++++++++
After this week’s open date, Georgia closes its regular-season schedule Nov. 27 in Athens against Georgia Tech. The Bulldogs (5-6) need a win to become bowl-eligible for the 14th consecutive season.
“It is very important for us to go play in a bowl game,” Richt said Sunday, “but the most important thing for us is to beat our in-state rival, Georgia Tech. That’s more important to me and everyone else. That’s the main focus for us. Bowl eligibility comes along with it.”
Richt said the team will practice Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and take the weekend off. Georgia has played games in 11 consecutive weeks.

kerryb, nope..AU will get sanctions if thats the case but it has to be active pay for play on behalf of the university and ongoing for that…
It is laughable that the school with 11 arrests on their team this year is so fired up over getting their ass whipped by the best player in football.

Just think about this Bullpups. Why did your team rush the field?
Because your Coach has no control on the bunch of thugs he has recruited. That is obvious.
Your team started the dirty play with a personal foul on the first play. Get over it.

Trisha, you are wrong. Bush was taking money from an agent and the school did not actively pay him and look what happened to them. It’s called institutional control. Yes, we have had 18-20 year old kids get caught drinking underage. I’m sure you did it too and never got caught. I’ve never heard of our players being paid to come. I guess you would have to pay someone alot of money to play at Auburn.

Trisha….did you go to Auburn? If so, you did not learn punctuation or grammar…..”Cam’s” is possessive – as in “Cam’s laptop was stolen from a student at Florida.”……… It is not a contraction for “Cam has” done that all season. Also, “ITS” is possessive as well. An example of the proper use of the word would be “Auburn will have to forfeit ITS national championship when the NCAA finds evidence that Bobby Lowder paid Daddy Newton.” I think you meant to say “it is” which would be the contraction “it’s”.
Are you from the state of Alabama or just an Auburn graduate?

I just watched the video of the hit on Murray’s knee ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0nhl66fjqlI ). I don’t understand all of the comments. Farley had his own knees cut and he was failing at the time. The 790 the Zone comments are all saying how bad it was, I just don’t see it looking at the video. I do agree the earlier hit it the back was one of the latest hits on a QB I have seen, but that one actually worked out to UGA’s advantage. I didn’t see the hit on the knee live, but obviously had heard about it. I was expecting it to be as flagrant as the first. But it wasn’t even close. I see why the official didn’t throw a flag. Farley actually hit the ground at the same time as he hit Murray. I hope Murray is okay, but this seems much ado about nothing. Again, the earlier hit in the back WAS terrible.

Trisha- your statement was ignorant. So there are no plays that should be penalties in which flags are not thrown. What you don’t understand is that the UGA fan base is not whining because we lost. We are upset because your classless player tried repeatedly to injury our QB and then celebrated when he did. Hopefully something is done soon to stop him before he injuries someone else.

Back when Vince Dooley, Ray Goff and Jim Donnan were the coaches at Georgia this rivalry was always hard-hitting but clean. Since Richt came to UGA from FSU and brought that hoodlum culture with him the Georgia players have turned into cry babies and jailbirds.
Yes, two of Auburn’s players were stupid and let themselves get caught retaliating. It’s always the second guy that gets caught. UGA still had 5 unsportsmanlike conduct calls in the game.
Go whine until the whole team gets an unsportsmanlike call for charging the field at the Tech game. Or y’all could meet up in Athens New Years Day and dance the Soulja’ Boy. If you do get to a bowl, it will be over and done way before Jan 1st. 49-31 WooT!

Auburn won the game, no doubt. Auburn had the best player on the field, no doubt. Auburn was the better team,no doubt. The refs let this game get out of control both ways. The Auburn RB got facemasked no flag. Jones performed a cut block no flag. But Fairly was cheapshotting from the getgo. Not only was he late hitting and driving Murray into the ground but he routinly grab the blockers jersey to throw him out of the way. Twice he nearly pulled the jersey off by grabbing the back of it. I think yall AU fans are missing the point. AU won, they deserved to win But you have to admit trying to injure a QB is wrong. Have some pride about yourselves. You know good and well Tuberville, and Dye would not have stood for this kind of dirty play. As for Newton I hope AU did nothing wrong. But Chizik may have ruined your school for many years by playing him. If this hits like many think it will Tenn. will recover bfore AU. But then again Chizik was in a tough position he is the coach no one wanted so he has to win. I just hope another SEC school doesnt suffer because of a greedy coach.

I think the Barners have sold their souls to the Devil for a national title. I really do. This is not the classy Auburn that we came to respect under Tuberville.
