No word yet on Murray’s knee injury
Georgia’s loss to Auburn on Saturday ended with Bulldogs quarterback Aaron Murray out of the game after taking a blow to his left knee, and there was no definitive word Sunday on the extent of the injury.
Coach Mark Richt indicated after the game Saturday night that he did not believe the injury was serious, and Murray seemed to be walking fine as he made his way to the locker room.
But on his regular Sunday evening teleconference with the media, Richt had no update on any injuries, including Murray’s.
With Georgia having an open date this week, the team and staff were given a day off on Sunday, and Richt, who conducted the conference call from home, said he had not met with director of sports medicine Ron Courson.
“I’m not going to talk about injuries in this conference,” Richt said. “I’m just going to hold off on that. I’ve got to get a clear picture from Ron . . . When I get with Ron, I’m sure we’ll have a discussion and will have a better idea of what is going on in that regard.”
Murray was on the sideline for the final five plays of Saturday’s game after his knee was jarred in a collision with the helmet of Auburn defensive tackle Nick Fairley.
“We don’t think there was any kind of structural damage [to the knee],” Richt said in his postgame news conference Saturday night. “We think it was more just a blow on the knee, the bone or whatever. He actually wanted to go back in and play. He was able to. I just told him no.”
Murray was not available for interviews after the game because he was receiving medical attention. Later in the night, he posted on Twitter: “Knee is all good, just gotta get some sleep and [I'll] be feeling good.”
Murray took a battering throughout the game, mainly from Fairley.
Asked Sunday if he took issue with some of Fairley’s hits, Richt said: “That’s another subject I’m not going to make a comment on right now.”
Tensions boiled over near the end of the game, and two Auburn players, defensive end Michael Goggans and defensive tackle Mike Blanc, were ejected for throwing punches.
“Just really disappointed in that,” Auburn coach Gene Chizik said after the game. “That’s a lot of reflection on us as coaches, and I am embarrassed by it. That’s not who we are.”
Richt said Sunday he had not heard from Chizik since the game and does not expect or need to.
“I know our guys were highly emotionally charged also, so I’m not going to sit here and try to say their guys were doing one thing and our guys were doing another,” Richt said. “I had enough concern about what was going on that we took a knee on that last play [of the game] just to try to defuse what was happening out there.”

After this week’s open date, Georgia closes its regular-season schedule Nov. 27 in Athens against Georgia Tech. The Bulldogs (5-6) need a win to become bowl-eligible for the 14th consecutive season.
“It is very important for us to go play in a bowl game,” Richt said Sunday, “but the most important thing for us is to beat our in-state rival, Georgia Tech. That’s more important to me and everyone else. That’s the main focus for us. Bowl eligibility comes along with it.”
Richt said the team will practice Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and take the weekend off. Georgia has played games in 11 consecutive weeks.

Dawgs and their woman coach need to be ashamed. All I ever hear is the refs cheated us, the SEC has it out for us and on and on…….. The team and your panty wasted coach need to start playing with fire. If another team is playing cheap then your team needs to also. Funny thing though, you wont hear a humper talking about the cheap shot knocking a reciever’s helmet off with a forearm after a whistle in the Florida game or about cheap shot artist #61 on your pathetic offensive line who keeps getting called for cut blocking. It shouldn’t be a surprise though, Richt was used to that when he coached for the criminoles.

I’m sure your little brain will think long and hard on that one because it NEVER happens. I’m sure when Auburn was on the schedule it was because Vanderbilt wasn’t available again. Everyone knows Auburn’s players have never been held to a high standard. Remeber Rudi Johnson. Cam Newton is just the latest Rudi. Here today and gone tomorrow. What I can’t deny is they won the game. They will beat Spurrier, though I confess a certain joy watching him beat Florida and knocking them out of the big dance, and win the national championship over an exposed Oregon team. At any rate, Auburn’s championships will be forever tainted with the stink of dishonesty and players without character. I am more impressed that an undermaned and dedicated Georgia team that fought GOLIATH blow for blow until about 8 minutes to go in the 4th quarter. Something I didn’t think they could do. I am PROUD of my Dawgs and their effort. They gave all they had and left everything on the field. JUST AS THEY SHOULD HAVE.

damnwarDAWG..I’m proud to be an AU Alum, and I am not stupid enough to think AU paid cash for cam or that even if some rogue booster did and it ruins our season, that corruption started in AU instead of eden. I just laugh about a team with 5! personal foul calls in the game, whining how dirty the other team is for their 5. The spear into the back was an obvious late hit and was FLAGGED. What else do youwant. The officiating crew didn’t feel the rest were flaggable..makes them clean hits..just like PI that isn’t called is not PI! I just happen to notice a while level among UGA fans on blogs and radio shows when their team loses..The refs GAVE sc and ark the games..FLA won by being dirty..and AU won by being dirty AND the refs giving us the game….yeah yeah yeah

aub was the better team, or at least newton was that much better than anyone uga had on defense. no one is questioning that aub won the game.
what’s in question is how dirty aub plays. you say that uga had 4 personal fouls, well, you’re right. however, 2 were in retaliation to aub personal fouls which were drawn first, hence they were negated. 1 other one was a joke of a call, while only 1 was legitimately called and not in any form of retaliation.
fairley is a dirty player! you’re kidding yourself if you don’t see it. he will be much more tightly watched in the alabama game.

Jealous of UGA? Yeah. Those 6 losses are something everyone wants. It’s also a very admirable trait to cry and whine for a couple of days about two plays in an 18 point loss. Would you all please stop saying Grantham don’t have his players. Here we have a almost million dollar coach, from the NFL and he can’t devise a scheme that that can stop plays that has been run on UGA since the first game. He couldn’t even stop the run when everyone in the stadium and at home knew Newton was going to run. Remember the DC from Tennessee in the 90s. Hiring this guy was a hugh mistake.

Yeah… This is a college game. It is played by 18-21 year old kids on scholarship. Now the 19 year old GA QB has a bumb knee because of the lack of supervision on the part of a bunch of thug Auburn coaches, mainly Ted Roof of a housing project retard academic casualty at a second rate school.

Nice Trisha….Jealous, I would rather have a bunch of dumb kids who drink and get caught and who, for some reason, cannot renew their licenses, than bums like Nick Fairley who are out to hurt people….you need to have the sand to admit that he is a disgrace to your program. The odd part is that you have the best team in the NCAA and you do not need that garbage…..I obviously see things through red and black lenses, but I think the nation did not think much of that display by your football team.

You won and you played dirty…get over it…you won because you played a better game and were the better team, but don’t act like you didn’t play dirty…Fairley is a thug and got away with numerous late hits on Murray…and like your coach, Chizik, showed no class at the end of the game…up by 18 points…As for Cam, he punched a UGA player during the game…not a stiff arm…a punch…that’s ghetto but not surprising….At the end of the game I watched AJ and some other UGA and Auburn players shaking hands…Cam ran down to pose and strut in front of the crowd…so, yeah, Auburn won. Auburn had the better team. Auburn played a better game….but they sure didn’t win with class or dignity…they acted like a bunch of ghetto-a$$ thugs and punks….ughhhhh….so glad I’m not an Auburn fan.
