Chizik on ejections: ‘I am embarrassed by it’

Transcript of Auburn coach Gene Chizik’s postgame news conference:

Opening comments: “I couldn’t be happier for our fans . . . the Auburn family. I am  excited for everybody. That stadium out there tonight was electric, and our student body, our alumni, our fans . . . it was a great night for everybody. Our football team in that locker room over there has a lot of love for each other. I think tonight was another situation when we were down by 14 points I think at one point; they just play as a family. That’s all that I can tell you. They play as a family, and I couldn’t be more blessed personally in my life to be around great people, great coaches, great administrators and players who are a joy to be around. They care about Auburn. They care about this football team, and they never cease to amaze me. I am very proud of [Cam Newton] and his performance, and I am very proud of our whole football team starting with our seniors, who have done a great job getting us to this point this year.”

On Cam Newton’s ability to avoid the distractions: “Cam rushed for (151) yards tonight. I was just really proud of the way he played. Like I said, he’s a really, really talented, extremely gifted football player who means a lot to our football team. By his performance, I felt like he’s done just about what he’s done in every other game this year.”

On the decision to on-side kick to open the second half: “That’s a very potent offense, and the on-side kick we felt really good about it during the week, and we felt like we needed to take one possession away from them in the second half. We needed to get some momentum coming out. We told our guys in the locker room at halftime  it’s up and running and you have to get it. Wes [Byrum] made a great kick. I think it swung the momentum starting the second half, and it took one more possession away from their offense in the second half, which we needed to do.”

On how difficult it was to defend A.J. Green: “I don’t know that we did. I know that we certainly tried about everything we had, and they made some great throws to him. He made some great catches. He’s one of the best football players, wide receivers, certainly in college football. There’s no question about it. He is a force to be reckoned with. He’s a very talented young man.”

On the difference between Auburn’s defense in the first quarter and the rest of the game: “We settled down a little bit. We tried to do some different things coverage-wise just trying to get the passing game under control. We felt like we could stop the run, but we knew that they had very talented guys at wideout, including the tight end. They do a great job of seeing what you are in. The quarterback does a great job of reading what coverages that you are either disguising and trying to work to, and he hits the guy who is most available in that coverage. They are really good at that, and I thought they executed that well. I think pass rush and pressure, more so in the second half, got to them a little bit.”

On controlling the game running the ball in the second half: “We felt like offensively, starting with our offensive line, we could get some movement up front. We were trying to get a pace going where we could wear them down a little bit. I don’t know if that happened exactly the way we wanted to, but we had some explosive plays in there where they had to run down the field and get set and reset. We did some things that we thought with clock management and other things would help us towards the end of the game. Again, our offensive line … that was a good defense we played against. My hat’s off to them. They tried to do a few different things to take away the quarterback run game which we were able to do some other things with our tailback run game, but at the end of the day, that was a really good defense. I was proud of our offensive line.”

On winning the SEC Western Division: “We had goals at the beginning of the year, and this was the first goal. Really in the name of trying to take them one at a time, we didn’t know when, if we were going to win the West, when that would happen. We were blessed to be in a position tonight where if we won, then obviously we have a trip to Atlanta. So I think there was a lot of incentive out there. There was a lot on the line, and I couldn’t be more proud of our team because of the way they responded and the way they just kept playing.”

On the personal fouls and ejections in the game: “Just really disappointed in that. That’s a lot of reflection on us as coaches, and I am embarrassed by it. That’s not who we are. That’s not the way we carry ourselves, and we will address that tomorrow.”

On Michael Dyer breaking Bo Jackson’s freshman rushing yardage total: “I think Mike as the year has progressed has got a little more comfortable with the offense every week. We certainly have a lot of confidence in him running the football and protecting the football. What a great accomplishment. I think he feels a great comfort level, and I think it is a great honor for him. Again, we are not trying to break individual goals here but certainly that is one he is always going to be proud of until the next guy comes along and breaks it. I am proud of Michael.”

Did you believe you would win the SEC Western Division this soon after taking over as head coach? “I never put a timeline and a timeframe on anything. Our belief was that the only thing that we could focus on is where we’re going with the program and how we’re trying to get there, and we’re trying to do all the things the right way that make sense that the Auburn people would be proud of and the Auburn family. It would just be what Auburn is and who Auburn is, and that’s where we tried to start. So we didn’t put a timeframe on anything, but make no mistake our goal since the day we stepped here was to win a championship, and we haven’t done that yet. So, I don’t want to act like we have. We haven’t, but we are one step closer to being able to do that.”

How welcome is this bye week now? “I think it comes at a great time. We are definitely a tired football team. If you count two-a-days when we started in August, this is probably week 14 straight. I think we tried to manage it about the best way we could with trying to back off when we needed to back off, and try to be aggressive when we needed to be aggressive. They’ve done everything we’ve asked them to do, and that’s the great thing about this team. It’s a well-needed break. We will sit back and try to get a little bit of a breather here in the next probably 48 hours, but we have a huge, huge football game coming up in two weeks, and we have to get ready to play that game.”

On coming back from a 21-7 first-quarter deficit: “Like I said, the guys in that locker room just never cease to amaze me and the coaches … offensive coaches, defensive coaches, special team coaches. Nobody gets rattled. Players keep playing and the coaches keep coaching and we have to adjust and sometimes it doesn’t look exactly the way we want it to look. Sometimes it is really ugly. Sometimes it’s not. For 11 weeks in a row now, we have found a way to win so that’s the most important thing.”

How will you deal with the ejections? “I am going to deal with that tomorrow, and I am not happy about it at all.”

Was your team a little bit hyped up to start the game? “They were. I think they were very excited to play. I knew that when we were getting off the bus. We were trying to temper it down a little bit. They were extremely excited to play this game. The seniors knew that they were never going to play out here again. That’s where it started, and they love Auburn, and they love playing in front of these fans, and they were off the chart in terms of excitement and I don’t blame them. But I think that was a little bit part of some of the play at the beginning … we weren’t very smart. We were just too out there with that. Finally we settled down, and I think we played a little bit better.”

On what it was like when it was 21-7 Georgia: “You are always concerned when it is 21-7, but I don’t think a 21-7 score affects you unless you have never been there before. We have probably been there two to three maybe more times this year. I just think our football team has confidence, and we get things adjusted to the best of our ability, and we try to come back and just keep playing for 60 minutes. We just don’t look up at the clock. We just keep playing and when it is 0:00, we will look up and the best man will win.”

Where is the question? “Who coaches and condones a defensive tackle pick up a QB and slam him into the dirt and land on top of him after he has thrown the ball with no intentions of slowing up?” or “What about the spear into the QB’s back at the end of the game?” or “What are your feelings about the fans booing when the GA Player was hurt in the 4th Qtr?”

I was pulling for Auburn to win it all but NOT now. I would rather see a PAC 10 team win it than these bunch of low class clowns! A poor excuse of a bunch of young men to represent the SEC in the national championship.

From here on out as far as I am concerned. Any kid that commits to Auburn is deemed a traitor to the State of Georgia and will be looked at in a totally different manner than before. What was a fun friendly rivalry is now a gloves off let’s get it on hate match.

Bunch of low class clowns? Committing to Auburn is a traitor? You self professesed sports gurus obviously never played any serious football, if any at all. Coach Vince Dooley played at Auburn and was a mainstay as a coach at Georgia for arount 20 years! Is he a traitor? Low class clowns?…..these Auburn players have been through nearly as much turmoil and uncertaintly through coaching staff changes as the beloved Crimson Tide and without disrespecting/ruining a great pedigree of a coaching family the way you did I with Mike Shula’s treatment. Atleast these “clowns” understand the concept of Auburn family. As an Auburn grad, donor and attorney, I am furious with all you hillbillies who don’t even know where tuscaloosa is on the state map (and no it is not where that racetrack is located-that’s talledega) You bamers won some of your exagerated “championships” with a multiple of polls in effect and with even more tractors and farm mortgages traded for recruits….but I understand it was accepted and ignored back then. One hard fact exists. Cam Newton is the best college athlete I have seen in my lifetime with the total package, Bo Jackson a close second and Herchel Walker close behind (none of whom breached the doors at the Capstone). Those traiters I doubt have many regrets and are excited as I about the team with great chemistry and no quit now playing for the orange and blue. And by the way, Cam has a great supporting cast. Dyer was congradulated by Bo (knows football) for breaking Bo’s freshman rushing record tonight. Adams catches more balls that Julio Jones and our Offensive/Defensive lines have stars emerging as underclassment out of pure hard work and heart. You guys won alot of close games last year (some underservingly) and rode that wave all year with your chests poked out. Now it is our turn to shine and good sportmanship (if you ever played any ball) should have taught t you to sit back and enjoy the ride. Maybe Saban’s movie should have come out after this season instead of just prior to. I am anticipating the sequel…….I here it’s titled “What the hell happened? A’ight). Good luck with Ga. State……see you in T town……….by the way it in the western part of the state from Bham. War Cam Eagle!!! Maybe Hootie paid Saban too much……..but I am sure if anyone had paid the Newton family (and they didn’t), too little was paid. Good luck with a high profile bowl……maybe Hawaii again……you can work on your tan. We will own you in two weeks.

Fine. Auburn won the game and no hard feelings about that. But what disappointed me about Auburn was the way they played because I didn’t expect that. Two players getting ejected. Fairley driving the QB into the ground whenever he could and hitting Murray late doing it. That’s just a cheap shot from a cheap player no matter how good he is otherwise. And even the instance when Newton looked as if he tried to slug a tackler in the face instead of it being a legal stiff-arm.

Can’t take anything away from Auburn. They won the game and will play for the SEC crown. But if I were an Auburn fan, I think I would be somewhat ashamed by how they did it.

Auburn won. They had the best player money could buy playing for them. Whether or not the NCAA ever gets around to investigating that is completely out of our hands as UGA fans. But I will say that I have never hated Auburn. UF, Tennessee, Tech have been easy to hate. Based on what I saw last night, Auburn just firmly rooted themselves as the #1 team to hate. Fairley is a cheap shot artist and deserved to get chop blocked. And Chizik’s histrionics at the end of the game were some of the most classless actions I have ever witnessed by a head coach winning a game at home by 2 touchdowns well after the outcome has been decided.

Auburn played better than we did last night, Cam Newton is an unbelievable athlete, and I am happy for the Auburn fans. That being said, Auburn’s performance on the field last night was dirty, classless, and unacceptable. Nick Fairley repeatedly took late hits on Murray that were excessive. I also cannot believe the refs allowed it to happen all night. Auburn fans booing a UGA player that is hurt?…NO CLASS! I just hope for the Auburn fans sake, the SEC’s sake, and college football’s sake, that Auburn hasn’t wasted everyone’s time and this game / season doesn’t end up being removed from the record books. This rivalry just got a lot more personal!

Now I am embarrased,Don’t get me wrong, I love my team and I am proud of the accomplishment this year,But between Fairley hitting late and the punches thrown on the field was noting but childish and embarrasing. Thanks guys, Yall turned a night of celebration into a {Take my hat off and leave the sports bar quickly} kinda night. Auburn and Georgia have had a close and storied relationship for over a hundred years, It appears that thuggery and hooliganism has now entered the Auburn program . Fairly set out to seriously injure Murray .He is the prime candidate for thug of the year. Fate has a way of dealing with evil behavior. Alabama and South Carolina may very well end the run for the Auburn gangsters and surely Oregon will if they get that far.

UGA fans whine every time they lose. As for classless, get real – the poor behaviour of UGA administrators and athletes is well documented. Did you see the punches thrown under the pile by UGA? As for Fairley, very few of the hits were late – when the TV guys slow everything down to make a point it blows them out of proportion. It was clear Danielson had an agenda. By the way, he and Lundquist are awful – could they get anyone’s name right? Not to mention there is a solution to Fairley, BLOCK him! Gene Chizik is NOT embarrassed– what a crock. A team is a reflection of it’s coach. Did anyone pay attention to his sideline actions? Allowing Nick Fairley to play as dirty as he wants to is a reflection on Chizik and Auburn. Of course no kudos to the spineless SEC officials who permit this to continue, or to the CBS announcers who gloss over this type of play, apologizing for Fairley and Auburn.

Shame on Chizik, shame on auburn, and shame on the SEC officials. I refereed longer than most of these guys have and I would have ejected Fairley for driving his helmet into Aaron Murray’s back, an so would any other good ‘referee.’

AU has made their bed with a coach that calls one of his own kids (he claims is family) a dumbass (read his lips) for an igsignificant infraction early in the game then ignores the thuggery at the end of the game. In fact, he relished in it. Fairley is well, what can you say, totally out of control, dangerous and unaware of how he will be perceived come draft time. Go ahead, get your championship because this Canes redoux isn’t going to last. However, Cam Newton is far and away the best talent in college football. Fans of SEC and football can only hope he can rise above the ugly mess he’s in at AU.

Cam’s talent is not even close to Jackson’s or Walker’s. He is a good college player, but, pro-wise, he won’t be playing QB. the Pro’s don’t run the type offense that Auburn does and you don’t have forever to do, whatever, like he did against GA. You just don’t get that kind of time.

UGA O-line choping blocking, #39 for UGA having to be restrained by 3 UGA coachs from returning to fight at end of game, Number 5? of UGA attacking AU player (twice)after whistle on downed punt in third quarter, Richt walking to mid-field and to the goal line to argue with Officials in final two minutes. With game clearly lost, Richt putting Muarry in position to be injured knowing AU is teeing off against whipped UGA O-Line. UGA fans should look in mirror and stop the whinning.

Enjoy your wins now Auburn for you will have to pay the piper later for making a deal with the devil. You should be embarrassed by some of the things that happened last night: Fairley’s obvious dangerous hits, the coach’s encouraging of it and high fiving him after he made the dangerous plays, the players who swung at UGA players, the fans who cheered when a UGA player was hurt, etc. But you are Auburn FAMILY and you will never admit embarrassment. You will probably defend Cam as FAMILY when the NCAA slams you when it comes out that his dad asked for money and he is ruled ineligible. You have always had a chip in your shoulder because your athletic program and your academic program has always been 2nd rate in the state of Alabama. You have always been so desperate to win that you have been willing to cheat time and time again. I used to hate Auburn after you shot the water on the fans (my grandmother was at the game and got soaked)but lately I had started to pull for Auburn. Not anymore. You obviously were the stronger team and knew you were going to win with Cam. The antics your players, your coaches, and your FANS showed was over the top and unnecesary for you to win. That is what lowclass people do when they are winning. We have had our problems at UGA, but no one can say that players haven’t been punished. There is a culture of acceptance at Auburn for ANYTHING as long as they are winning. I now remember fully why I used to hate Auburn and will pull for anyone, and I mean anyone who plays them. Even as much hate as there is in the UGA/GA Tech rivalry, I always pull for Tech when it doesn’t affect GA. All this being said, I have a Auburn friend who’s child is very smart and he wants his son to go to Auburn. The son told his father that he doesn’t want to settle for Auburn when UGA is a much more academic school. He just cannot understand why his son thinks choosing Auburn would be settling! Your winning season and Cam will still not earn you the respect that you are so desperate for.

I’m glad Auburn is willing to risk the Death Penalty to win a NC. I have never seen a team that has become so hated in such a short time frame. Gene Chizik is a joke as a coach and wants to win by any means. What you sow, sow shall you reap. I hope all this is worth it. Auburn has to have the dirtiest player in college and I hope someone gets an illegal hit and ends his career. For the coach to say he was embarassed is a lie. He and the coaching staff highfived the guys after it took place. I hope UGA develops a killer mentality after this and circle this game next year. I don’t care what we do next year as long as we take out some Auburn players. If you don’t like my comments to hell with you. This was a great rivalry until this year and UA made this a hated event. Fairley should be suspended for his actions and the hit on Ryan Mallett was just as dirty, but I blame the officials for allowing it.

Flo-Ri-Duh!

November 14th, 2010
8:56 am

Chizik may be embarrassed about it NOW but at the time he was promoting the behavior on the field and you could see it in his antics on the sideline. No use crying about the illegal behavior that the refs often let get by. The best team won. If Cam Newton is innocent of NCAA violations that will come out and I hope if he is guilty that will be handled truthfully and not covered up like his behavior while at Florida was covered up. If a player is caught cheating he should be kicked out of school and be inelligible to play. If a player punches another player in the face, as Newton did on Rambo at the beginning of the game, he should be kicked out of the game as the rules specify. The ref did not penalize him – just gave him a warning. What is that about? Cam Newton was the difference.

I do not recall Georgia fans “whining” about player misbehavior after the losses at Miss St, Arkansas, Colorado, USC, Florida, etc this year.

There is a reason they are complaining now. If you watched the game you would understand.

So Chizik is embarrassed about the actions of his players? He needs to look in the mirror. He led the hooliganism by cheering on the misbehavior from the sidelines! What about his assistant who gave a high five to Fairly at mid-field while he was doing his “I injured Aaron Murray” dance?

I was there last night and can tell you the fans were horrible. Classless is an understatement. From the trafic jam from hell on the way in, to the no place to park, we finally got to the statium, only to find our seats were on row 1. The AU athelic department sold us tickets for $65 dollars each ($260.00) and we could not even see the game. While Scam is being investigated, the Athelic ticket department should also be investigted for stealing money from away team supporters. It’s also funny that Auburn has never have a winning undefeated season without an asterisk by the record.

Auburn planned on the 2nd half kick all week long. You know why? Because everyone knows that Richt always, and I mean always, defers to the 2nd half when he wins the toss. This is another example of how his predictable coaching (how many fake punts or field goals have we ran this year?) leads to getting out-coached by the opponent.

A one-year wonder with a ton of baggage, some of which is probably going to be with Auburn for a long, long time, probation or not.Chezedik showed his true colors on the sidelines through his actions, not his words at the press conference. Its downhill for him from here. I’ll take the 5-yr. future of the UGA program over that of Auburn any day. As a matter of fact, I’ll take he 5-yr future of almost any program in the SEC over Auburn’s. Auburn is embarrassing itself and the conference. I don’t think we blame Bobo for this loss, we scored 31 points; how many points must one score to win. We gave up 49; I would venture to say that is on the D.
With that being said I would not say anything else about this game or this season publicly and take a hard look at the film from yesterday, the coaches, players and do some serious soul searching on what needs to be done for next year.
I have never believed in dirty football and cheap shots but I was glad to see the GA players retaliate on Fairley for what he was doing. If I had been Richt I would have put a headhunter on Fairley after the first late hit and I would do WHATEVER was necessary to get better for next year.
I would tell Auburn good game get out of there and be more prepared next year in all phases of the game including the cheap shot category.
As Gomer Pyle used to say “you fooled me once shame on you, you fooled me twice shame on me.”
Ok Dawgs lets lick our wounds, get mad and turn this season into positive motivation going forward. Heck this may be what we needed to get our attention.

JD

Why is it that classless acts by a player get all the attention? Florida linebacker tries to gouge the eyes of Ga runningback, Ga tackler tries to twist the ankle/knee of the Ga Tech QB, Auburn lineman late hits the Ga QB. All of these are classless acts and some draw 15 yd penalties, but they are meant to gain an advantage by putting an opposing player out of the game. Unfortunately the NCAA does not review and fine like the NFL, but that’s not the issue. We teach from small fry football to “hit to put out” which is why so many tackles are not wrapped up, just helmet and shoulder hits. Then we bit&h about our defenses missing tackles. Just fine($$$) the schools for these plays and maybe they will stop, starting in high school.
ps: Cam Newton was obviously a thug at Florida, but here’s hopeing that he changed his life in junior college and is a new person at Auburn so he doesn’t follow in Michael Vick’s footsteps.

Agreed though, it was still tacky for Au fans to boo.

In games around the country you will observe defensive linemen trying to smash the quarterback every chance they get. Sure, Fairly played dirty, but the Dawgs lost their right to complain when the retaliated, and when their bench started to run on the field to join the fracas while Auburn stayed put. Borderline ‘late’ hits on the QB happen in almost every game. Many times they are dirty and intentional. You just tend to hear about it more when Georgia loses…

Ask any player about the things that go on at the bottom of a pile. There’s a reason Ealey wasn’t angry when Spikes tried to eye gouge him last year: because stuff like that happens all the time. If it bothers you, try recruiting pacifists instead of meatheads next time.

If I were an Auburn fan I would not be talking smack. I would be embarrassed of how dirty my team played.

I have seen a few people post this already and I could not agree more. I considered Auburn a friendly rivary too…not putting them in the same category with UT, UF, and tech but no longer. That has to be one of the single dirtiest games I have ever watched.

Fairley’s behaviour is indefensable. And The refs who allowed it to happen are worse.

Did we lose? Yep. Would we have lost to that same Auburn team playing a remotely respectable brand of football? Probably. Our Dawgs not only weren’t ‘man enough’ to beat Auburn…but our “criminals” were out-criminalled too!

Attention Auburn fans…our arrests and the clearly antagonistic relationship between our players and the A/CC PD does NOT justify your booing of an injured UGA player or dirty brand of football.

PS…what QB is Lowder buying y’all next year?

GA fans complaining about Fairley when their lineman chop block and go after a guy – that sounds typical for them. I guess the dogs were expecting a touch football game. Were there a couple of hits that shouldn’t have taken place, yeah. But that is on both sides of the ball. Next time you play Auburn expect a physical game. UGA should be happy they don’t have to sit players when they are arrested – you wouldn’t have a football team. Tuck you tails, go home, and HOPE you beat GT so you can play in Shreveport.

I get the feeling some of you Dawg fans didn’t actually watch the game.

1) Fairley isn’t a dirty player, I think he just hits people so hard they rotate on their center of gravity. Does he drive to the ground? Maybe, but I didn’t see it happen but one time that game, and I was watching for it. Also, the Refs didn’t say anything about it to him or to the coaches. (And don’t give me a conspiracy theory, it makes you sound like poor sports.)

2) The spearing hit to the back was bad, I will give you that…but that’s why a 15 yard penalty was thrown on it. It wasn’t like there was a timeout and he came running off the bench 30 seconds later, it was 3 steps. Roughing the passer? yes. Ejection-worthy? only if you’re butt-hurt.

3) The Fairley hit at the end was not intentional. Go back and watch it in slow motion, he gets blocked as he is falling, and then gets hit in the legs as he is in the air, which spins him towards the QBs legs. It was unfortunate, and again, the refs (who were actually watching the game) didn’t even call a flag on it. If it was dirty or late, they would have.

4) The punches were thrown at the end there because Dawgs piled on Fairley and were punching him while he was down. You want thuggery? That was a mugging.

Now Now What's a dawg? - peace please

One team is punished for breaking the rules. The other team is encouraged to break the rules. Good argument otherwise you effing donkey. That piece of trash should have absolutely been ejected for spearing Murray in the back 20 minutes after he had released the ball.

DawgGone,

UGA always has been and always will be better. In every way. The history of conduct at Auburn speaks for itself. Try as you might to be the rationale one in your head, your not. Your program will be in the NCAA doghouse again real soon with Chizik and the Alums, whether it is this Cam deal or other violations. At least the Auburn fans I sat with in section 30 for the most were embarrassed by the by the unsportsmanlike play of Fairley and others on AU. Maybe you were higher up, or better yet, not at the game to see it. It was clear to those not drinking the Kool-Aid

@Dawg Gone

My complaint was never about Auburn winning, or being the better team. My complaints were about Chizik leading the bad behavior and poor sportsmanship with fist pumps. Fairley intentionally trying to injure Murray. Fairley doing an “I took out Murray” dance at mid-field and getting a high five from his coaches for it. Auburn’s fans for booing Murray as he limped off the field (guess they wanted him to stay in to get hurt more??)

These were my complaints. UGA fans are not alone. Fans all over the country are lighting up the sports blogs about it this morning.

I am tired of hearing that Fairley was “blocked” into Murray.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ilMaBUWFP64

If he was blocked into Murray how did he end up at 90 degrees or more from the direction of the block? For that to have happened, the blocker would have had to pull Fairley in that direction, and that clearly didn’t happen. Watch the video!

It was, as usual in Auburn, a sorry night for the visiting team in regards to the SEC home town officals. A phantom interference call that results in an Auburn touchdown, and a bogas on side kick where the ball was touched before it went 10 yards. That resulted in another Auburn touchdown. 14 points from the SEC is hard to beat.

Vince,

Half the “crimes” you list simply didn’t happen. The last hit on the UGA QB was clearly not intentional. Fairley got flagged for the one truly late hit he made. Booing the hurt UGA player might have been over the top, but the crowd thought he was playing it up to give the defense a rest, and maybe he was. As for the personal fouls, Chizik took responsibility for that and said he would address it. Fairley is certainly aggressive, but all the talk about what “would be” illegal in the NFL is stupid, because it’s not against college rules.

But whatever moral authority UGA had to complain went out the window when the players attacked Fairley and then cleared the bench. Sorry, but you can’t really complain about dirty play when that’s how you behave. And then, of course, you have the whole Grantham “choke” thing still in recent memory, and Richt certainly didn’t seem too bothered by that. I mean really — with UGA’s rap sheet over the past few years, do you really want to be going there?

Well I’ve been to many auburn – ga games. Georgia fans always get drunk and fight after the game. Remember the year the Georgia fans got hosed? They had run out to the middle of the field and were ripping the Auburn logo out of the ground. Yep, ripping up the grass. Real classy. And since Richt has gotten there, Ga has gone further down hill. I remember the Black Out game. Ga players had a special dance for every score. I thought, wow, these young thugs want to be like NFL thugs.

Fairley had one bad hit, and he was penalized for it. But there were NO LATE HITS other than that. I just watched the game again. On that last hit that hurt the girly qb, Fairly was blocked into the qb and his helmet hit him in the shin. And if you look at the replay HE”S NOT EVEN LOOKING AT THE QB WHEN HE HITS HIM!!!!

Anytime you let a QB rush for 151 yards it’s going to be a long day. UGA has done that several times this year. Murray held on to the ball this game, no fumbles/picks and even though GA lost this was probably his best game. I’m not a Murray fan and think Mettenberger would have been a better choice but you have to draw the line on when a player’s conduct off the field would be detrimental to the program which Coach Richt did and Mettenberger will probably be playing for LSU next year. It would be ironic if he ended up at Auburn as Newton’s replacement. Too bad about the bruhaha at the end of the game.

And why does Bobo repeatedly try to throw deep on third and short? To fool the defense, who might be thinking we’re going to run the ball? All it does is cause Murray to get sacked and give Butler the chance to punt some more. Perhaps he realizes that his friend the O line coach has underperformed and his talented line has underachieved and we can’t run for three yards consistently.

Ben

Just to be clear, I like UGA’s program and just hate that Richt brought the FSU philosophy with him of putting up with too much off-the-field crap from his players. Terry Bowden did the same thing at Auburn, and it drove the AU fans nuts. That said, I think Richt is a nice guy, he just has Papa Bowden’s blind spot. I hate what happened at the end of the game on both sides. I was embarrassed, as was Chizik by the early personal fouls. That has not been a problem for this team this year, so I can only assume it was frustration coming out after a hard week. Still, no excuses. But there are also no excuses for attacking a player, chop-blocking him, or clearing your bench. Both teams need to get it together and make sure this doesn’t happen again.

yeah okay, Cam was recruited by Tenn, OK and Kansas. ONLY MISS St is saying Cecil wanted money. I’ll tell you what happened. Slimeball Bond went to Cecil and and offered him money. And Cecil probably considered it and might have even made a counter offer. But in the end, he didn’t take the money and Cam wasn’t involved. You think Cecil wanted money but never asked Tenn, OK or Kansas for money? Just Miss St and Auburn? You are a fool. yeah, okay… — All I know is that as of now, there has been not even a hint that Auburn knew anything about Cecil’s actions or did anything at all illegal. No one believes Jacobs or Chizik would have been a party to something like that, so the only possibility that would get Auburn on probation is a rogue booster, but again, there is no hint of anything like that. If it is proved that Cam knew about the solicitation, he could be declared ineligible, which would lead to forfeits, but not probation.

PENALTY AU unsportsmanlike conduct (Eric Smith) 15 yards to the AU15.
PENALTY AU personal foul (Byron Isom) 13 yards to the AU14.
PENALTY AU personal foul (Nick Fairley) 15 yards to the GA29
PENALTY AU personal foul (Mike Blanc) 15 yards to the GA25

4 personal fouls by AU players personal fouls(not counting offsetting fouls). I counted 3 UGA personal fouls. 1 being a direct retaliation for Nick Fairly’s dirty hit on AR. 2 of AU’s personal fouls resulting in ejections from the game. I guess in the heat of of the conversation I blamed them on one bad apple. I guess it is a team wide epidemic. I think I would have rather it been one bad player…

All of you younger UGA fan get worked up against rivals like GT, FLA, TENN, ALA, AND SC. These game for the most part are good clean hard nose football games. Sometimes we may not not like the outcome but the other team knows they were in one hell of a hard fought football game. I have been follow UGA football since the 60’s and have total respect for all the above mentioned teams and when one of them beats you have to give them that credit and move on as they do when we win. THAT BRINGS US TO AUBURN.
Ask some of the old UGA football players what they think of Shug Jordon or Pat Dye. What you saw yesterday was exactly why I have hated Auburn since the early 70’s . Auburn deserved to win yesterday because they were a better football team , UGA fans have got to admit and accept that as a reality. But Auburn has been a dirty football team ever since the 70’s. Check how many QB’s and Tailback that UGA lost for the season with knee, ankle and leg injury’s back in the early 70’s , during the Auburn game. You younger UGA fans are now seeing why the Auburn game is in a category by itself.

Fairley is the dirtiest player I have seen in college this year ! The officiating[or lack therof] was terrible. They could see what he was doing, and they continued to do nothing. ! Even the tv announcer said the spear in the back of Murray would cose him $ 75,000 in the NFL. Cheap shots to the back, the lower leg ,etc. , and still the officials did nothing. The SEC should be ashamed ! When Coach Richt said to the ref late in the game, ” why don’t you call the penalties, ” they did nothing except throw two players out, and left Fairley to do whatever he wanted. I always respected the Auburn program, but never again while Chisik is there .

By the way, here is the complete story on the year Ga fans got hosed. As I was leaving my apartment for the game, my Pinkerton neighbor said,”Better take an umbrella or you will get wet.” I had no idea what he meant. I didn’t sit in the student section during the game, I sat with my dad and brother. When the game ended I told my dad to wait because there is always a fight after a Ga game. LOL. Well all the security, Pinkerton guys, were all down at the Auburn student section while Ga fans were rushing out on the field. Of course Auburn students aren’t going to rush the field after a loss, but the Pinkerton fools were all down there. Well after about a few minutes of Ga fans ripping up the turf in the middle of the field, the security turned on the fire hoses. So obviously the Auburn security had planned on hosing Auburn students at the end of the game. Pathetic.

One criticism of Auburn, during the Pat Dye years, whoever manages the stadium and affairs has become less fan friendly.

But the most sickening thing about last night’s game, aside from the final score, were Gary Danielson and Verne Lundquist. I am simply sick and tired of listening to these idiots call games. You can try to justify this all you want, but this is the first time, in many many many years, that I’ve wanted to jump in the TV screen and join the brawl. Auburn won the game fair and square and there are no misgivings about that…but Fairley is flat out a dirty, rotten, scoundrel. The reason he was getting chop-blocked was because he was driving Murray into the ground, landing hard on him with his shoulder (why do you think he injured his shoulder btw?) and the spearing he gave was way over the top. Argue to your heart’s content, but it doesn’t matter…because he has made a complete ### of himself on national TV and don’t think that UA, USC, and whatever bowl team AU plays will not be taking extra steps to protect their QB from this rogue player.

Of course, you don’t want to talk about any of that…you just want to call out some other school’s actions…what a joke. Keep on talking…the more you do, the more you prove what I am saying AND the more you prove that you are the dumbest college football fans in the world.

I freely admit that Fairley is aggressive, and I think he sometimes goes too far. The shot in the back was uncalled for, and the penalty was warranted. But I’ve been watching football for a long, long time, and in my experience, any time a dominant defensive lineman spends an entire game in the opponents’ backfield, the other side claims he’s dirty. I’ve seen Auburn fans say the same thing about opposing defenders before, and I argued with them. This ain’t choir practice, boys, and only very aggressive men are going to succeed in the trenches. All of this whining about “dirty” play from Fairley looks to me more like fans of a 5-6 program looking for somewhere — anywhere — to redirect their anger. Trust me, I saw Auburn fans doing the same thing in 2008, and it didn’t sound any less whiny coming from them. As I said, I like UGA, and I’m not going to condemn the whole program. That said, UGA fans lost their ability to complain when their guys went after Fairley and then cleared the bench. And don’t tell me about “thugs” when UGA’s roster keeps popping up on the local arrest list.

How many UGA should be out for the 1st Half of the Tech Game? UGA players jumped on Fairley and threw punches on not 1 but 2 plays and half the team rushed on the Field. The SEC is watching the tape right now. Many of the starting Offensive line should miss 1/2 the Tech Game and many of the defensive players that rushed the field. What do the UGA fans have to say about that?

The charges by UGA fans that he should have been called for more penalties yesterday is just whining. The hit to the QB’s knee was clearly an accident, and like I said, fans always think that any hit that occurs as much as a millisecond after the ball is released should be a penalty.

As for the retaliation, there is no excuse for that, ever. I do not excuse the punches thrown by Auburn’s players, and you shouldn’t excuse the conduct of your guys. That is totally out of bounds.

You know why no Alabama or Auburn players are arrested? It’s because no policemen in his right mind would ever arrest one of the state of Alabama’s football gods. He would have to flee the state to avoid threats to his family and himself. It isn’t because the kids who go to those are so disciplined or just better people. It is simply because they would have to kill someone if front of a live TV camera to have anyone accuse them. That is the reality of it. Isn’t it about time to for some self reflection?

Players should be tossed for chop blocks and dirty hits, and the NCAA should fine the schools when players do it. The NFL is cleaning up these kind of dirty plays. If Fairley was is an NFL game yesterday, he would’ve lost a lot of money. College football needs to figure it out.

Also, did everyone forget that Cam Newton is a convicted criminal? Remember the arrest at Florida? Do you really think all these new allegations are false? At least Georgia kicks these kind of players off the team from time to time.

No one is questioning that Georgia lost, but Auburn should be embarassed. If they happen to win the NC, it will eventually be taken away when all this settles.

You guys continue to miss the point, but at least bloggers across the nation agree with what the UGA fans saw. 1. Auburn was out to hurt Aaron Murray 2. Auburn hurt Aaron Murray 3. The Auburn fans booed a hurt Aaron Murray 4. Chizik was fist pumping on the sidelines during the fracas 5. Fairley did a mid field dance(?) to celebrate the injury of Murray 6. Two Auburn players punched Georgia players…to the delight of the Auburn coaching staff….judging from their reactions.

UGA fans didn’t mind losing the game so much as the loss of what most consider a friendly rivalry. Even before the game yesterday my daughter said to me,”You know, I don’t really know if I want Georgia to win or not because I want Auburn to win the national championship. ” Oddly, I agreed with her.

“What, you mean the attack on Fairley at the end? Yeah, I agree with you, that wasn’t classy at all.”

Going after a guy that has been cheep shotting your QB for 4 quarters until he finally succeeded in knocking said QB out of the game, when the referees did very little to protect the QB for the entire game from said cheap shots, while not classy is totally justified. I wish the whole UGA team would have gotten a shot in on Fairley (Ironic name –don’t you think). If the refs don’t make the players act right then you go boot party…and Fairley deserved it.

Again…my argument is not that our players are classy or that they are not thugs. I am saying that our players poor behavior does not justify your classless behavior.

Richt kicked a QB off our team for an arrest for assulting a chick…but to Auburn fans that arrest apparently gives their team a blank check (touchy subject–I know, figuratively I mean) to play dirty. Rationalize it however you must but what I saw last night was ugly.

Did Auburn offer Mettenberger a scholly? If so, your class argument is invalid.

Like I said, this stuff is just pansy, loser nitpicking. It’s what some fans tend to do when their teams are losing, and plenty of Auburn fans did it in 2008 to their shame. “Hey, our QB got hit a millisecond after the ball was released. Where’s the flag? Hey, he’s hurt and the opposing coaches are high-fiving. Hmmm… the sane part of my brain says they are happy for a defensive stop and don’t even realize our guy’s hurt, but nah, I’m mad — Obviously, they must be sociopathic monsters who are over there cheering because our guy’s in pain! I HATE those guys!!!”

Really, a good margarita and a better win-loss record would really help some of you to chill out.

If you DAWGS like the rules so much, then will RICHT bench all the players that broke the rules during the Auburn game? Dawg Players that Richt told to Code Red Fairley should be suspended too. All the players that rushed the field should be suspended too. Come on DAWG FANS show us how much the rules really matter over just winning. IADAWG — Say what you want, but Auburn’s arrest record went way down after Tuberville came in. UGA’s went way up under Richt. Do some programs care about character more than others? Hell yes. Just look at Miami — Under Shannon, they not only look for character, but he’s deputized his players to tell him anything bad they hear on the street about any of the guys UM is recruiting. Ben

By the way, AFDawg, the only rationalizing I see is coming from UGA fans. Over and over we keep hearing that Fairley was “playing dirty,” so it was therefore justifiable for the UGA players to call a code red on him and try to beat him up. But it was “classless” and “thuggish” for the Auburn players to retaliate for that by throwing punches. Yet it was O.K. for the UGA players to rush onto the field trying to start a massive fight. Pathetic. The Auburn players who were tossed got what they deserved — let’s just hope the league office also deals appropriately with the bad actors on UGA.

You can try to dismiss it or avoid it all you want, but UGA lost ALL moral authority to complain about anything Fairley did with the code red at the end of the game. Ben, UGA has had a horrible season and no Georgia fan gave UGA much of a shot at winning the game. All of the Georgia fans I talked to were okay with Auburn’s success thsi year. I always looked at Auburn as an equal opponenet who didn’t get in your face and vice versa where UGA was concerned on the Auburn side. But, as I watched the game I was literally appalled at what Fairley was doing. Go back and watch it again from the start. Then, Chizik started in with his amateurish antics on the sideline. The final straw was when Fairley hurt Murray with the game in hand. From this point forward I can only hope bad things happen to Auburn. Even when the pushing started you didn’t see UGA throwing punches — that’s why only Auburn players got suspended. Also, if you watch the replay of the supposed chop block on Fairley you’ll see that the Georgia player tried to crab block him — if you had ever played you would know the difference.

To follow up with that note, each week coaches grade the officials, have calls verified,, and make request for review of certain plays by the SEC office and Mr. Reddings. To follow up on that there have been 3 previous coaches to question the not the hits from Fairley but the driving the player into the turf part of the play and there have been previous warnings. After watching the game my feelings have changed. Not because we lost but because of the dirty play of mainly one guy…and the coaching staff’s support and congratulatory high fives for injuring a player.

Now I hope that you lose every game you play…not just against UGA anymore. I further hope that Newton is guilty and that Auburn pays through the nose. NCAA spokeswoman Stacey Osburn wrote that, “The solicitation of cash or benefits by a prospective student-athlete or another individual on his or her behalf is not allowed under NCAA rules.” Cecil Newton has admitted this and as a result of this violation Cam Newton would have been ineligible at that point. Whether there’s any more to the story does’t matter. Newton has been ineligible all year and now Auburn knows it for sure. If they play him, as they did against Georgia, the NCAA will hammer Auburn like they did to Southern Cal they should. If there is any integrity at Auburn (and saw little integrity on the field yesterday) they have to declare Cam Newton ineligible and beg for mercy from the NCAA. Auburn, particularly Coach Chizik, seems to want to let go of the horse they have been riding no matter what. That’s a bad decision. One that they will regret! You can’t use ignorance as an excuse because the NCAA is the final judge and jury and they are looking for things just like this to make examples of college football programs with disregard of the rules. Party hardy, War Eagles, a big hangover is coming!!

Just because you shouldn’t stoop so low doesn’t mean I won’t, Auburn played an ineligible player, used dirty tactics and that is the reason they will be without two players for the first half in their next game.

I honestly think I heard last night at the beginning of the game that Bo Jackson?? was on the sidelines and talking to players during the game. Now, I’m not certain it was Bo, but they did say a former player was doing this. Is this legal??? Also, Auburn is going to forfeit all the games this year, and hopefully the officiating (if you can call it that) team will be penalized, as in the LSU game a few years back.

UGA are the biggest whining hypocrits. CMR told the referee that the fight is what happens when you do not call a penalty on Auburn hitting the QB on the knee. First of all, he was blocked into the QB. Secondly, going after the Auburn DL after the next play is deliberately thuggish. A great example of christian values your teaching your players CMR!

Dawggone 5:56 post, I just got back from dinner. Don’t remember the play during the UT game. I went back and checked the post game articles — no mention of it. I’m not saying it didn’t happen, but you’re really grasping at straws here. One play out of an entire game means we play dirty? The difference here is Fairley made a point of trying to hurt Murray the entire game. Go back and review the game film if you don’t believe me. Your defense of Fairley shows how low class Auburn fans are. After last night — Auburn has definitely vaulted to number two most hated Georgia rival — right behind Florida. You jumped Tennessee and Tech for sure. I’ve got to sign off — here’s hoping Auburn crashes and burns big time from here on out.

I’m surprised no one has mentioned what Fairley did to LSU’s quarterback , which was an out and out body slam! I believe CBS was carrying that game too, with Lundquest and Danielson calling it and it was right there, the kid getting slammed and they laughed about it! They were even talking about him before the game and how he had a habit of doing that. Hard nosed football is one thing and I’m all for it, but intentionally trying to end somebody’s career is another. Remember Jim Mcmahon with the Bears, was slammed like that and it pretty much ended his career.

Just to add a little perspective, it was a dirty display by Fairley throughout the game, and the Auburn coaches exercised no constraint over him nor did the referees. I hope that the SEC reviews the film and suspends Fairley from the Bama game. Multiple personal fouls with a bent to injure Murray was pretty much obvious. Any one with common sense understand that this is what lead the fray at the end of the game. Com’n Auburn fans, you know this is true.

Of course UGA isn’t dirty because of one play…it’s just one example of how players can do things that they shouldn’t on the football field. Dirty Dawgs? I think so.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/517057-georgia-auburn-gets-ugly-why-richt-must-go

Fairley tackles Washuan Ealey after a gain of about 3 yards. During the play UGA’s number 61 Ben Jones holds the jersey of Auburn’s number 93 Mike Blanc and pushes him out of the play. Then in a pre-mediated manner Jones immediately pounces on Auburn’s number 90 Nick Fairley and grapples with him on the ground. On the video you can clearly see Jones punching Fairley in the abdomen as he pins him on the ground. Seeing this, Auburn’s Mike Blanc and Stevens pull Jones off of Fairley. UGA’s Washaun Ealey gets in the middle and starts shoving and punching Blanc. UGA’s #60 Clint Boling then jumps in the middle and starts punching any Auburn player he can see, all while he continues to thrust himself into the Auburn side of the line of scrimmage.

While Boling is punching players, Auburn’s Goggins pushes him away from the Auburn players that Jones is attacking. While shoving Goggins away he shoves the face mask of Boling. Then Washaun Ealey, already suspended this year for going to jail, punches Goggins in the facemask.

Of course, in the Professional manner of SEC officiating, the Referee calls the punch on Goggins and ejects him for the deliberate actions of Mark Richt’s players, specifically Ben Jones, Ealey, and Boling. Then, while the SEC officials explain the penalty, Mark Richt has the audacity to come out on the field and tell the Ref that this is what happens when you don’t call the personal foul on Nick Fairley on the previous play.

But wait, it is not over. Two plays later, UGA runs the ball to the right. During this play, UGA’s #60 Clint Boling goes after the knees of Auburn lineback Craig Stevens. Also, #71 Cordy Glenn, blocks Auburn’s #93 Mike Blanc in the back and out of the play while holding his jersey. UGA’s Glenn continues pushing Blanc out of the play and Blanc starts pounding the chest of Glenn in the same manner as lineman punch during a pass rush. Glenn continues to shove Blanc after the whistle blows and tries to shove him into the UGA players bench.

Of course, in the Professional manner of SEC officiating, the referee call Blanc for a punch and ejects him from the game. Once again, as the result of Mark Richt’s out of control players and program a second Auburn player is ejected from the game.

So, I guess Mark Richt got what he wanted, two players ejected. Instead of graciously accepting his loss, he lashes out and instructs his players to involve themselves in behavior demeaning to the University of Georgia and the rest of College Football. Instead of graciously accepting defeat, his jealously will likely cause 2 Auburn players to miss the first half of the Auburn Alabama game. Mark Richt’s jealous rage could affect the outcome of that game and the outcome of the BCS.

Worse, Mark Richt has lost control of his program. Richt has had over 11 players arrested, one of which, Ealey, was in the middle of and instigated these actions. The lack of institutional control has been reflected for over 5 years now and shows its head amongst the game, the players, penalties, coaching, and on to the fans and worse yet, the students. I have over 5 stories (I’ll spare the details) of UGA fans harassing me at a UGA Auburn game. Two of these stories occurred after watching UGA players dance and stomp between quarters in an effort to show off. In addition, I have witnessed first hand Georgia players punching and gouging players in the pile.

I can’t figure out how Richt is able to portray himself so well off the field, but portrays himself so poorly on the field. Lastly, I can’t figure out how the Georgia football nation has not figured it out as well.

In conclussion, Richt has lost control of his program. For the benefit of Georgia and college sportsmanship, it would be best if Richt regained that control.

(AP) After further review, Alabama is asking for assistance from the SEC concerning this years Iron Bowl game against Auburn citing fears that Cam Newton and Nick Fairley will also kick their *** just as they did against Arkansas, South Carolina, UGA and LSU. SEC officials said they would not provide extra assistance to the University of Alabama despite their pleading for mercy.

An SEC official speaking off the record said “if I was Alabama, I’d expect to get my *** kicked.”

Like most UGA fans I love the dawgs win or lose, I am ashamed of the players who have been arrested, but they were punished and hopefully learned their respective lessons. I do not think that will happen again, but we’ll see. The Auburn fans were classless to boo a hurt player, but they are usually great fans, and they want a winner at any cost as does the school administration. I fear the NCAA will have the last word about the senior Mr. Newtons actions.

Players act like thugs because the Officials allow them to act like thugs. I sincerely wish and hope that the farley thug receives an injury as serious as he has tried to inflict on opposing players. That would be justice for him.

From a UGA fan. This game came down in my opinion to a couple of plays. The onside kick was brillant and totally changed this game. The one play for UGA that totally changed the game for us was when we tried to run the wild dawg (cat whatever you want to call it) in the 2nd QT. AU had not showed any signs of being able to stop our offense with Murray under center and we pull this cr@p. It goes for 1 yard and we end up punting one play later. Our offense was never really the same after that. The other two plays were the screen plays we tried to setup. 3 and goal from 5 and we try to setup a screen that I have not seen work all year watching almost every minute of every UGA game this year. Glad Cam played he was really sharp and wanted to try and beat AU with him playing. Give it up for Murray, he is one tough kid. Overall I was really pleased with the effort UGA put out and this team never gave up. As for the UGA fan that tried to burn down AU’s square thanks for making all UGA fans look bad.

Being an Auburn graduate, but living in Dawg country, I have many friends who are UGA grads. They are some of my best friends, and seeing them yesterday was a little tough knowing that I was embarrassed for the way our team acted at the end of the game Saturday. Nick Fairley clearly hit Murray late on a couple of occassions, and even if emotions were high, that was uncalled for and actually cost Auburn on one drive by allowing GA to keep a drive going on a 3rd down stop. I really hope Gene Chizik runs those guys today until their tongues fall out and lets them know that we do not play football that way and in the future they will be jerked out of the game for anything close to a cheap shot. Finally, I am really glad Auburn is doing so well this year, and would love to see us rise to the occassion and represent the SEC well. It could start today by having Nick Fairley and Gene Chizik show up at a press conference and have nick apologize and show some humility for his actions.

It seems the ones concerned about the 4Q Un-Fairley hit are not considering all contributors: Richt had Murray in there with a poor call late in a game UGA was well on its way in losing; the UGA offensive line was not doing its job keeping Fairley away from its QB; and the officials did not call a penalty. You can lament about it, but at least distribute some of the blame (if there is any) around to all sources of Murray’s injury. BTW hope all these athletes have a healthy and successful future ahead of them.

Only one to blame for Murray’s bruised sternum and knee is Fairley. He took cheap shots on a QB and got away with it. He played dirty…attempting to injure another player on purpose with hits that are routinely fines in the NFL. Blaming Richt or Murray for Fairley’s cheap shots is like blaming a rape victim for “dressing too sexy.” Fairley is a punka$$ thug…if he keeps playing dirty someone is going to take out his ACL…

When a fight starts in a football game, it is usually the 2nd person involved that gets the flag… 2 Auburn players flagged…hmmm, who started it? (Not to mention the gang-style jump from the OL on Fairley)

When the Auburn player was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct from the bench during the replay review, he was reacting to a ThUGA player running his mouth towards the AU bench. Hmmm, again.

When Fairley speared Murray, a flag was thrown. It extended the drive on the failed 3rd down. UGA eventually scored on that drive. I would say Auburn was penalized. On all of the other plays, Fairley was playing to the “last echo of the whistle”, something that Richt’s mentor at FSU liked to preach. Fairley actually put his shoulder into his target and wrapped up on the tackle. That is something that every coach would like his players to do. If the hits were late, the flags would have been thrown. Obviously, they were too close to call.

I also heard the CTG was jawing at fans in the stands. First it was opposing players, and now he is getting into it with the fans? Stay classy UGA…

After reading some of these comments…I find myself shaking my head. I am a hard core AU fan!! I love Nick Fairley, yes he did make some late hits…the block in the back of Murray was bad and he received a penality. There were several chop blocks, and blocks in the back and face masks by UGA that were not called or penalized…Fairley was doubled teamed all night and he still was able to get to the QB…I attribute that to the UGA OL…they didn’t block, they were too busy getting in face masks, cheap shots, and chop blocks to block correctly. Apparently everyone saw a different game than I watched…. as for Fairley, he is a BIG guy and once his momentum is going it is hard to stop…you can’t stop a Semi on a dime and he can’t stop on a dime!! Fairley was blocked into the QB when his “Knee/Shin” injury occured, he did not intentionally “spear” Murray’s Knee…also why didnt Murray get out of the way? He knew Fairley was coming for him and Murray just stood there…If the Refs would have called some of the cheap shots made by both teams we would not be discussing this to begin with…Fairley injured his shoulder the first half of the game and wasn’t even playing full speed…so to continue to bad mouth him is wrong!! Also when 3 of UGA players piled on top of him and was punching him they did not get called or penalized for their actions…I think if the NCAA/SEC were to watch the game again and see all the bad hits and plays there would be alot of players penalized on both teams!! But at Auburn it is FAMILY ALL IN and when the UGA players were on top of Nick, and the AU players tried to pull them off it got heated and Goggans hit one of the guys…but so did the UGA player on top of Nick and #3 for UGA punched at an AU player but didnt get called… As for the Mike Blanc ejection, the UGA O Lineman drug/pushed him several yards away from the play after the play was whistled dead and continued to push Blanc into the UGA players, and yes he had to defend himself…I don’t condone it but I understand it….also as for the fans booing the UGA player…Mark Richt tolded the player to stay down…to slow the AU Offense down so they could rest…the player wasn’t actually injured that was what the fans were booing about was Mark Richt “motioning to the UGA player to stay down”. Also the UGA players stomping the AU emblem is disrespectful and was Classless in my opinion…and for some of UGA fans to set the toliet paper on fire at Toomers Corner is classless…so when you call a team “classless and thugs” you need to look in the mirror… If you can’t handle getting beat, that is really your problem…don’t take it out on the team that has beaten you!! At AU we love and support our team, our coaches and fans!! WAR EAGLE!!!

I love it when you jerks try to defend that assclown Fairley. You think there is nothing wrong with the way he played and that says alot for the Auburn fans. Why don’t to go to the special olympics and boo the downs kids. Classless to the core

Hey Molly…did you really just type the word tolded?

Fairley injured his shoulder does not mean he can play dirty and we have to look the other way as the refs did.

This is a circular argument. You say our players were bad for going after that dirty POS Fairley. We say our players were justified in doing so because he had been taking cheap dirty shots on our QB all night long and the refs called it once. If Dirty Fairley was playing remotely fairly…the line would not have tried to exact their revenge for hurting our QB. You see lady, if you try and hurt someone for 4 straight quarters and finally succeed…lack of intent on an isolated play is not an argument you can win.

Your Semi analogy also disproves your argument. Looking at the replay play we are looking at Dirty Fairley’s back. He was being blocked to his right. As Murray stood there our blocker was blocking him to the right and he dove to his left the opposite way he was being blocked. The only way a semi going right suddenly jerks to the left is if the driver makes it happen!

Lastly…why was Chizik even rushing the QB at that point in the game!? It was clearly out of reach. UGA could not win. The only reason you keep that guy in there is so that he can hurt someone–and it worked. Chizik got what he wanted! Dirty Fairley tried all game to hurt Murray and he finally did it with two minutes left when the game was totally out of reach! THe refs stood idly by and allowed the dirty play…So Dirty Fairley got what he had coming. If the refs didn’t make it happen…well our OL had no choice.

I do not condone tryng to set fire to that corner y’all like to vandalize after wins. But then again I didn’t see anything on Saturday that won Auburn any respect from me anyway…so if it burned it burned. I couldn’t care less.

Also Molly as far as your detail of the fracas…that is all beside the point. The refs let Dirty Fairley get away with murder on all but one play. So our guys went after him. They could and should only have to take it for so long. The knee play was the straw that broke the camel’s back, It was Fairley and only Fairley’s doing. If he had been playing within the rules–we wouldn’t have gone after him. If the refs had made him play by the rules–he wouldn’t have had as many chances to hurt our QB–And our guys would not have gone after him. No Fairley–No fight. Get it?

I hope the NCAA demolishes your dirty program.

When did Auburn fans get so greedy…it’s not enough to win…now they have to convince everyone they aren’t a dirty team…good luck with that…

Auburn is a good team, BUT the team and the fans showed poor sportsmanship. There is no class at Auburn. Nick Fairley is a thug and should be disqualified by the SEC. I hope they lose the next game to Alabama.

Chizik has no character….while talking about how disapointed he was in the ejections of his players, he was pumping his fist harder than anyone else to fire up the crowd and his players…how did fairlie avoid a taunting call when doing his solo on national tv?

Fairley hit late and paid the price. The knee hit was incidental contact. These things happen in the moment of a violent game that most of us have never played so we have no idea the intensity. As to class what about the cut blocking and the knees to the stomach in the pile? What about the becnh clearing by GA? Go check out the video of a Bulldog elbowing under the chin against Florida and his helmet flying. Point is the SEC is a rough and tough league to win in so GA fans and players stop whining. You got beat by a team with a chip on its shoulder and right now AU has a us against the the world mentality. Also no one has stopped the methodical death marches when Cam simply wears you down and there is nothing you can do but watch, Down 14 and there was no doubt this was coming. You can see it developing. Off field stuff aside we are all witnessing a college athlete who is playing at a level not seen in a long time or maybe never.

OK!! The Auburn game against Georgia was very intense We all saw that. And I agree things got out of hand at the end. I am sure the coaches hit those kids hard about that behavior. Lets face it we all hate the one on top. When our teams play bad we always go after the team who play well. As for Cam Newton he signed with Auburn. If he signed with Miss State or UGA or anyother school and they were winning guess it would be on there back however sure there fans would back there school and Newton if he was on there team. Face fact Auburn did not pay a dime for Newton other than a Scolarship. They new nothing neither as it sounds did Cam. And by the way no matter what happens on the field it gives UGA no right to burn toomers corner.. THAT IS LOW CLASS!!!!!!

i hope the Bama Offensive line stand fairly up, chip block both freakin knees. he has made a history of driving QB’s into the ground on late hits. hes too fat and slow to get there to sack the QB , until he’s slowed them down with a few cheep shots. my question is why officiating continue to let this go. i under stand running into a QB after the ball is away, i understand sometime its a bang bang play, but he already has his mind made up, he’s not going to pull up, he is going to wrap up, body slam, and drive his shoulder into the QB chest. football is a collision sport, but ive never seen anyone play as dirty as this guy. i hope the NFL remembers this come draft day, all those plays would be a penalty in the pros. its gonna be a long year waiting for the AU game to roll around again.

I am shocked you sniffiling UG(LY) fans have enough time to cry about how badly those mean AU defensive players hurt your boy wonder. I figured you guys were too busy crying about your horrible season. I was in Athens last year in your WIN over AU and you guys couldn’t get through the first half without BOOING your own team. They came back and beat AU, but I am sure you guys were too busy picking out a new coach or worrying where to find a new Ugga to notice. The most puny and fairweathered fan base in the SEC…ok save for Vanderbilt. It is over, you got creamed. Now get ready for a game against YOUR in state rivalry against the mighty Tech. What do you call your rivalry game, ours is the iron bowl…your is the mediocre bowl…..

The Auburn Family is All IN for winning football games at all cost ($$$), an ineligible qb that solicited money, dirty defensive players (but AU has always been the master of late hits and piling on at the end of the play), 1957 National Champs, but you were on probation, Tiny Bowden and undefeated but on probation, soon to be on probation again, maybe you’ll get the DEATH PENALTY, probably not but you can cry and whine how it was a conspiracy against you…lety’s just say you suck and most people hope Alabama and S.C. beat you so you don’t cause the SEC further embarrasment, would rather see Boise win the MNC than you scum.

I just happened to recall something……Almost every time Auburn has an outstanding team they are either on probation or headed for probation. Look it up. Hmmmmm. Fairley is punk and a cretin. Newton is a hot dog for which there is not enough mustard in Alabama to cover him. The SEC officials are a spineless bunch of cowards for not suspending Fairley for the rest of the season. Chizik is a prima donna and obviously condones the thug behavior of his team. Auburn fans should keep in mind one little point. If it is proven there was some shady dealings with Newton and it is discovered that he should have been ineligible, Auburn will have to forfeit all games he played in. Wouldn’t that be a fitting climax to the season?Three schools in three years for Newton, not to mention a little situation with a stolen computer at Florida. Where there is smoke, there is fire.

I think it is so commical that you are complaining about Chizik being classless by running up the score by 2 TD’s after the score “had been decided.” Give me a break! So you don’t think Richt would have done the same? Of course he would have. It’s a football game. No team is just going to say, “let’s make sure we don’t score again so the pups won’t get their feelings hurt.”
I hardly think you can condem Auburn for being classless either. Lighting Toomer’s tree on fire after the game just because you are sore losers? Thousands of happy AU fans gather there with children. If you don’t want to be around happy AU fans, don’t go to the historic landmark. Luckily no one got hurt over someone being a sore loser. Now that is CLASSLESS!
