Report: Colorado interested in Richt

Colorado, which beat Georgia earlier this season and later fired its coach, is interested in talking with Georgia’s Mark Richt about the position, the Denver Post reported today, citing an unnamed source “close to Colorado’s search.”

Richt, in his 10th season as Georgia’s coach, has said repeatedly over the years that he wants to complete his coaching career at UGA.

The Denver Post report also says former Oregon coach Mike Bellotti has had preliminary talks with Colorado about the job and that a search committee is expected to be named next week.

Richt makes about $2.8 million as Georgia’s coach, and Colorado athletic director Mike Bohn has said the school likely won’t pay more than $2 million for its new coach, according to the Post.

Georgia lost 29-27 at Colorado on Oct. 2.  The Buffaloes haven’t won since then, losing five consecutive games. The school fired coach Dan Hawkins this week.

Richt lived in Broomfield, Colo., for part of his childhood before his family moved to South Florida.

My first first. I’d like to see Dr Lou Holtz get the job so we could get him off of TV. I don’t want Richt to go anywhere. He is in the process of turning everything around.

Trust me, I live here in the foot hills of the Rocky Mountains, CU is a very poor run University and always want something for nothing. It is one of the top three drug infested schools in our nation and mostly leberals that cant see the forest for the trees. Now CSU is a great place as far as schools are concerned. The difference in the two are like black and white or good and evil. I am just a old Ga. boy looking at it like it is.

I think after today’s hat gets handed to me and the buzzards are getting lower and lower, I better look into the Colorado thing. Wait a minute, I couldn’t even beat Colorado, are you sure you have the story right? Somebody get Turbeville on the line. I need some advice.
See, after he stunk the place up and drug the program through the pig slop, it took Auburn no time to right the ship. I take my latest 2.8 mil, get out of Dodge, and get myself some distance from this place. Hey, I really don’t have a clue about anything, but everyone(apparently except Colorado) already knows that for sure.

Please save the naive fan base from this curse of a coach and hire him away from us!
Just because Richt pounds the bible doesn’t mean he’s a good coach.
He’s made Georgia THE laughingstock of college sports with constant arrests and embarrassing performances on the field (circa Colorado).

Save these fools from themselves and take Richt!

I hope Coach Richt stays in Athens as long as he wants. You will never have to worry about crap like Cam Newton going on. We have had our troubles but they don’t compare to what goes on at other campuses. You would be surprised what is hidden and also not made public.

I hope like hell coach Richt takes an interview for this job. Then we will see how some of you so called Dawg fans will cringe. And yes i am a Dawg Fan from 1972— the year i was born. The man has been as gracious as he can possibly be. He has had a rough spell due to attrition(Stafford-Moreno-Massouquoi) superb talent and one hell of attitude in Knowshon. No i dont want coach Richt to go anywhere but we Dawg fans need to realize its alot of schools that wud love to have him and yes he cud be successful somewhere else……………..But why not at UGA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!…………All he has to do is win one national championship and u will put his statue next to Coach Dooleys

Did I miss something? Richt has a winning record, how could people bash him so bad with a winning record? The last couple of years have been shaky but he’ll get back to his winning ways. Actually, Willie Martinez was the problem last year and with a new defense and new QB this year we’ve lost some close games. I just don’t get it.

What does it mean when a lesser team in a lower conference offers your coach less money to make a move and they think they have a shot??? BOBO back to Jstate??? Not the kind of offers you would like to have to fend off but is where we are as a program I suppose. SHAME

Richt isn’t going anywhere. He will finish out this season, and have next season to get things going right again. It’s idiotic to want to fire a man for two sub-par seasons when he has a great record. Now, if we have another crap season next year, he will probably be let go. But Mark Richt will be the HC of UGA football in September of 2011. GO DAWGS!

Also how Tech could lose to a lousy Kansas.
Everyone else just shows up against these two teams and wins by 50.

I would like to point out that when Dooley was head coach at Georgia players were not allowed to jump to the NFL after their junior or redshirt sophomore year. That is why Herschel Walker went to the USFL after his junior year. When you are constantly losing your star players (especially QB) it is difficult to keep the program on an even keel. Of course all coaches have to deal with this now but this hit Georgia especially hard the last few years as they don’t have superstars waiting in line behind superstars like Bama and Florida usually do. Even Florida and Bama are showing down years because of this attrition. On the Cam issue it- it looks like the price of star players is “Escalading”.

Richt is not going anywhere. Those of you who constantly bash him make me smile. He is not in trouble with the people who make the decisions about matters such as there and he really loves everything about UGA.

This time next year you haters will be back in your cave enjoying your crow.

Richt, in his 10th season as Georgia’s coach, has said repeatedly over the years that he wants to complete his coaching career at UGA.

Given the circumstances, that may not be possible…..I think he should go to Colorado and be involved with some wild buffalo roundups……might have the effect of toughening him up a little bit and then maybe he’d be mean enough to coach those thugs at UGA…..but, maybe not :)

I think there are only two programs Richt would ever consider, and Jimbo Fisher just took over one of them. However, Randy Shannon is sitting on his own hot seat.

I like and respect CMR, but if losses to Auburn and GT finish out the season, I can see some boosters in a panic, and you never know what might happen. If there’s a phone call from Coral Gables, I would be willing to bet the Athens end of that call would begin “I’m listening…”

In the business world, one is responsible for his recent successes. A sales person is responsible for his or her bottom line numbers year to year. I know ………..I retired after 33 year sales/marketing career and ran major manufacturing firm’s sales force. This is just the way that it is. Show me the numbers.

Mark Richt has not done anything in 4 or 5 years folks. He is not even recruiting well, anymore as a direct result of his record. HC of the U of Georgia should not be just another Obama jobs program.

I say by bye to Mark Richt. Let us get a fellow in here that can ( see Chizk, see Sabin, see Meyer, see Les Miles ) turn a program around if he only stays for 5 or 6 years. It is about winning.

Why is this so difficult to fathom???

Go Dogs.

@Fol-ri-duh. Good point about Coach Dooley. I’d also like to point out that even though Dooley was a great coach, he had rebuilding periods as follows:
1969 5-5-1
1970 5-5
1976 5-6
1979 6-5
BTW 1979 was the year before he won the NC.

@Why Keep Him. You probably got out of the business world because business is not so good anymore. Georgia finishes in the top ten every year in recruiting.

Oh, by the way, They finished 2nd in the Nation to LSU in 2007 but again did not get to play for the National Championship. If they had they would have won it.
