Chizik: Cam Newton ‘will be playing against the Georgia Bulldogs’

Auburn coach Gene Chizik had one thing he wanted to say unequivocally on the SEC coaches’ weekly conference call with the media today.

Cameron Newton will be playing Saturday against the Georgia Bulldogs,” Chizik said, “and I want to get that off the table.”

Amid various reports of alleged improprieties in Newton’s recruitment and academic record, Chizik declined to answer questions about the matter, saying he would entertain only queries related to Saturday’s game.

Earlier on the conference call, Georgia coach Mark Richt said the Bulldogs are preparing to face Newton, Auburn’s Heisman Trophy-contending quarterback.

“We really haven’t tried to keep up with that at all,” Richt said of the controversy swirling around Newton. “I think it could be a distraction to us, so we’re keeping our blinders on and studying the film and getting the plan and making sure we’re prepared for him being the quarterback.

“As much as some people think it might could be a distraction to them, it could be a distraction to us if we’re ‘Is he in? Is he out?’ type of thing. We’re planning on him being in, and we’re preparing that way.”

All those who think Cam is so innocent, let them live in their world of denial…a story that has only sources who are nameless is without merit. But this particular one has named sources who have “the goods” so to speak…Answer these questios….If all the things Thayer and the others are saying are lies, why aren’t they being sued for slander??? If either Cam or his dad were sleazy enough to try to get money on the side to come to one school, why would thier morals have changed so suddenly for Auburn? By no means am I proud of the off the field embarrassments UGA has endured in the past or present, nor do I excuse any of it. It is a sad state that we have so many kids in college sports with no morals or conscience and the mindset of “get all you can, however you can” But any school who thinks it can’t happen to them isn’t living in the real world.

Go Bulldogs – MORE unnamed sources? You know, I could EASILY myself write an article in the court of public opinion and submit it anonymously to any sports writer in this country. But it doesn’t make what I wrote TRUE. Get my drift?

Hey losers feels better than the spotlight you are in now. I assume the past 4 years you were on here talking about beating us down then also so maybe 1 year you will be right. Kind of wondering what high caliber team you smoked this year? Most were close and Arkansas had lost Mallett.

Even though I’d hate to see Aubarn win, I’ll await NCAA investigation to determine whether Newton has done anything wrong. The timing is just too concerning for these stories to be coming out now. Anyone who doesn’t question that is just going on wishful thinking against Aubarn. Any team in the SEC would have taken Newton. And that’s a fact.

as a huge Alabama fan – i hate to see all of this swirl created by “unnamed sources” to this guy who is clearly playing the best ball for (arguably) the best team in the country right now. LSU gave my team their best with their best and we saw what happened. I want AU to be at their best in 3 weeks and they won’t be without this kid.

Ultimately – Gary Danielson had it right this past weekend. What IF all of this proves to be garbage and he’s screwed out of a Heisman? And IF it’s true – AU is in trouble regardless of whether they play him now or not.

With all that said – Sic’ em Dawgs… And go “Black Bears”…

harold….are you smoking something weird dude?

Auburn has a championship program? When was the last time AU won an SEC title? UGA has won one since AU last did it. UGA 2005….AU…2004. UGA in 2002 also…AU none!

Auburn has a championship coach? Chizik 5-19 at Iowa St overall and only 2-14 in conference…including 0-8 before you hired him in his last conference record in 2008. He is 23-24…still under .500 despite being 10-0 now.

Mark Richt?…..95-32…no losing seasons ever! 2 SEC titles and 4 Eastern Division Titles. 7-2 in bowls…4 top 5 finishes in 10 years at UGA….5 NY Day Bowls (3 Sugar Bowls)… and 53-26 in SEC conference games. UGA has the conference’s best record overall in the past 10 years!

And now the ultimate answer to you harold….4 IN A ROW OVER AUBURN for CMR!!!!
Take that and smoke it! Next time find some facts…instead of your delusional empty statements!

To HerpDerp:

You obviously do not fully understand the business of college football. It is a business, it is about money, it is not about having “good” student athletes, or about helping them to become better people, it is pure and simple a business about making money. Dan Mullen worked with Newton at FLA, saw his potential, and no doubt recruited him. He knew of the character issues with Newton, and determined that winning, and making money was the most important thing (not faulting him here, as it is the same with all “successful” coaches) and determined it was worth the risk. Do you really think that all of these top teir players are good people, with squeaky clean records, come on! Alot of these guys have past issues, and all the major universities take the risk, because their competitors are doing the same, and no one wants to get left out!

Hmmm…you always have try and reason AGAINST how Auburn won over our opponents… they had a different QB, an injured Safety, we played at home, the wind was blowing the wrong direction, the rain came down only on our opponent’s side of the field, they ran out of Gatorade on the sideline and our opponenets fainted from dehydration. Yeah. That’s what I say. Dumb. Isn’t it. Get over it. The better team won fair and square, simple and clean.

Reggie Bush caused Auburn not to play for the BCS title in 2004. Now Auburn has its own Reggie Bush. Will it be worth it to lose the season over this one player. Apparently Auburn has known about something possibly being amiss since the first of the year. I remember the Auburn-Georgia game of 1994 when Auburn was winning big while in the midst of NCAA probation as a result of severe and egregious recruiting violations. There in the stands were numerous Auburn followers wearing tee shirts sporting “No Bowls, No TV, No Problem”. It would seem that pay for play is a thing of tradition on the Plain. Why am I not surprised?

As far back as the late 1950s, Auburn had scandals swirling around them in football. I lived in Pensacola in the late 50s, as a middel school kid ( Clubbs MS) and they were embroiled in the recruiting of some PHS players and one did end up going after all to Auburn. It was all over town that scandal. I was best pals with one of the player’s lilttle brothers.

That continued into the 70s and the 80s. There was the Brent Fullwood thing, where Pat Dye allowed him to register for the Fall, then SKIP 100% of his CLASSES knowing that come the end of the year, he would declare and go pro. Same with that litle bitty James Brooks from Warner Robins, GA.

AU will destory UGA ( my alma mater ) then withinone or two years, we will learn that Chizk is knee deep in it and that AU is forfeting games. Such is the way that it is at the Plains.

Recall that D back scandal in the early to mid 90s between Bama and AU ??? That was proved to be scandalous with some $$$ AU supporter from Montgomery. None of this is new.
