It isn’t the bitterest of Georgia’s football rivalries. Just the oldest and most competitive.
Georgia and Auburn first played in Atlanta’s Piedmont Park in 1892. They have played 113 times since then. Auburn has won 53. Georgia has won 52. They have tied eight.
So, if Georgia were to win this year’s meeting at Auburn on Saturday, the Deep South’s oldest college-football rivalry would pull completely even at 53-53-8.
After all these games, all these years, only 56 points separate the teams. Georgia has scored 1,778 and Auburn 1,722. The average score in their meetings is 15.7-15.2.
“I think that as we go on during the week the younger guys will get a better picture of what this rivalry is and has been over the years and what it’s meant,” Auburn coach Gene Chizik said Sunday. “It’s just a great rivalry. It’s what college football is all about.”
At 113 games, the Georgia-Auburn series is older than Georgia-Georgia Tech (102 games) and Auburn-Alabama (74 games).
Georgia has won the past four meetings, the Bulldogs’ longest winning streak in the series since the 1940s. As Chizik mentioned Sunday, no current Auburn player has experienced a win over Georgia.
Over the years, it has been a curious series in that the road team has won more often than the home team. Georgia has an all-time record of 14-9-2 in games played at Auburn, while the Tigers have an 18-11 record in Athens. The series was mostly played at neutral sites from 1892 through 1958.
Another quirk in the Georgia-Auburn series in recent years is that the lower-ranked team has found disproportionate success. Neither team was ranked entering last year’s game, but the lower-ranked or unranked team has won seven of the past 13 meetings when one or both teams were ranked. As you know, Auburn will go into Saturday’s game ranked No. 2 in the nation and Georgia unranked. In the last meeting of a ranked Auburn vs. an unranked Georgia, the Bulldogs upset the No. 5 Tigers 37-15 in 2006 at Auburn.

Would love to believe Dawgs have a chance…but just not feeling it. Oh yeah Aubarn creed is going to look stupid when Cam leaves this year and NCCA drops the hammer…so you guys enjoy

All you Tech fans on here have no reason to talk about UGA.
You do realise you lost to Kansas…. yes the same Kansas that lost to an FCS school?
The thing is… Tech alumni and fans have lives that don’t depend entirely on what a bunch of kids does on Saturday afternoons. College sports are fun to follow, but the biggest reason for going to college is to get an education.
UGA fans don’t seem to care about anything but football, and they don’t care if their players are enrolled in silly majors that no parents who are paying the bills would send their kids to UGA for. The very few football and basketball players who graduate have no job opportunities and end up unemployed or working in menial jobs that hardly require a college degree.
Georgia Tech is a real school with serious academic standards, and that includes scholarshipped athletes. UGA has a long history of being a party school, where parents send their kids for an easy degree, even if the degree itself is practically worthless.
Jan Kemp exposed the crap going on at UGA with athletes being enrolled in courses a ten-year-old kid could pass. That was almost three decades ago, and nothing has changed. If anything, the abuses are more blatant today. Way too many illiterate morons are being recruited, and the very high arrest rate shows clearly that Richt does not care if his players have any morals or self-discipline.
The bottom line is that most Tech fans have very good jobs and productive lives that don’t depend on Tech’s football record for their happiness in life. It would be great to beat UGA more often, but when you put scholar-athletes up against thug-athletes, it’s usually no contest.
It’s pretty pathetic to see UGA fans who typically have never been within miles of a college classroom and who live or die with UGA’s weekly results on the football field.
So keep on posting your “30-24″ all you want, especially since you’re home with plenty of time on your hands. I wish you well, maybe you’ll get lucky and get your old job back at the Waffle House before your unemployment checks stop coming.
And Yellow Jackets will keep posting here to remind you what a really crappy place UGA is.

If you ask me TCU is the most complete team in the country. Their Defense is far superior to the other BCS teams and their offense is pretty solid too. Last time I checked defense wins championships. Oregon looks great but they were pretty solid last year until OHIO STATES defense shut them down. Alabama won with defense, Florida won with defense, What I’m getting at is Auburn= no defense and Oregon has a mediocre defense. Even Boise State although they have not played the top of comp has a solid defense to go with an explosive offense

Even though we kinda suck right now, i am so much happier being a Dawg than a Tiger/Eagle/Camron Newtons. Why? Auburn just plain blows. Talk about being the “step-child” of a state, and a conference. It’s good to see them doing good now, but geez, once Cam leaves, they suck again. Sorry Aubies, you know it’s true.

I’ve never understood how anyone – even an alumnus – could support and take pride in UGA’s football team. When you look at their history for the past forty years, how can anyone ignore Jan Kemp and the “remedial studies” scam, the Jim Harrick fiasco, the DUIs in the athletic office, the DUIs and other arrests of players, the #1 party school tag (i.e., the most drunk students), the suspensions and outright dismissals, the Fulmer Cup, and on and on?
As disgraceful and humiliating as it is, I don’t see many alums and fans demanding an end to this sordid activity. It sets UGA apart as the kind of school most people abhor, and it’s become an embarrassment to the whole state of Georgia.
Will it never end? Apparently not while Mark Richt is at UGA. Richt is perhaps the biggest hypocrite in the United States. But even with all the cheating and lawlessness that he ignores, he still can’t win the SEC.
So you’re paying him to be BCS champions, but he can’t even win his SEC division. So why do you pay him millions of dollars a year?
GO WAR EAGLES!!!

Once again lack of defensive talent will be the deciding factor. Grantham does not have the talent nor the coaching ability at this time to stop a mobile QB. But with saying that, as bad as our secondary is Newton shouldnt have to run very much anyway.. Look for Cuff to get burnt numerous times and Rambo to be out of position most of the game. Our only hope is for Houston to have a monster game. But alas Auburn wins 45-21 and yet another nail in the Richt coffin hopefully.

I don’t think we’ll overlook the Dawgs. Four losses in a row are not easy to overlook. The team has taken things one game at a time so far. I’m not thinking of 2006, more like 2004. That year we played our most complete game of the season against UGA. Y’all played your guts out but we were just too good that day. I think that will be the same assessment in 2010. Here’s to everyone leaving the field healthy!

Where are all the Bama fans today? I thought they might be on here at least pulling for us. All the halftime reports had them in the national picture getting to #2. That might be hard to do. The SEC East is a disaster this year and win the SECCG with 2 losses over a three loss team won’t help.

Candela Ross,
Who do you think you are? The stuff that happens at UGA happens at every college in the country. UGA just has so many watch dawgs that they have to prosecute someone every time they screw up. Do you really think that the Tenn football team that hospitalized an off duty cop was justified. You do not hear about other schools because it is swept under the table. We punish athletes and kick them out if needed. Other schools pick them up like they are saints. If UGA was a bad school you would never hear about anyone getting in trouble would you? So shut the heck up and get a life.
We will be in SEC Chamionship Game and Thuga Wont.

This game will be close. It always is. Auburn has done little on defense to impress. UGA can’t stop mobile QB’s. Everything says 45-44 but i think both defenses will make some plays. Plus nerves. Plus familiarity.

On 2nd thought, how in the world would anyone want to send their kid to GA Tech?
Talk about a craphole.
Can’t walk anywhere on campus or nearby without getting mugged. The girls are the ugliest I have ever seen. The average student there has 4 pairs of eyeglasses, a pocket protector in the front pocket and carries at least 3 ink pens.
Talk about setting yourself up to be laughed at, have sand kicked in your face, never getting a woman and having to live in mama’s basement for the rest of your life.
On 2nd thought, who would do that to their kid?

My hope is that this Saturday will be a repeat of the first game in Athens after many Georgia-Auburn games at Memorial Stadium in Columbus. Auburn was favored and was ready to clinch a victory when All-American Pat Dye recovered a fumble for our Dogs. Francis Tarkenton, our junior quarterback, led the Dogs down the field toward the East endzone. With a few seconds left(12 is my best memory) Tarkenton passed to Bill Herron for the tying touchdown at 13-13. Durwood Pennington kicked the extra point and our Dogs won 14-13 to claim the SEC Championship under Wally Butts and a trip to the 1960 Orange Bowl which was a victory over Missouri.
It was this Georgia grad”s first trip to Sanford Stadium and the day I decided to go to school at Georgia. I was in the seventh grade at St. Elmo School in Columbus.

These Auburn officials don’t get it (and neither do their idiot fans). If the NCAA finds that an Auburn booster gave money to this guy, regardless of whether Auburn knew about it or Newton’s family knew about it, AUBURN IS GOING ON PROBATION!
Or maybe they do actually get it and are trying to SPIN it in the best possible light.
