Opening comments:
“Good to have a victory. Good to be 5-5 at this point. And we got a chance to play a couple of great football teams [the next two games]. We start out with Auburn and are looking forward to that. I know Auburn is one of the best teams in the country, so we’re looking forward to that opportunity next week.
“But today was a day I thought our defense and special teams kind of sparked our offense. I thought we were a little bit shaky in the beginning throwing and catching, but once [Aaron] Murray settled down and started hitting his target, everything started to work offensively too. Just a good team victory. I’m glad we got a lot of young guys opportunities to play, and we had a couple of older guys who hadn’t gotten a chance to play much in their careers get in there too. It’s fun to give those guys that opportunity. It means a lot to them. I’m very happy for those guys to get a chance to play and play well.”
On the three interceptions by Georgia defensive backs, including two returned for touchdowns:
“That really sparked us as a team. In that first quarter with a couple of field goals, there’s nothing wrong with that, but we feel like we could have gotten at least one touchdown on the board in the first quarter offensively. But it kind of took the defense to show the way a little bit and just spark the team. And after that, I thought the offense began to play real well. Once we got into the massive substitutions, we started punting again. But the defense definitely sparked us.”
On freshman Alec Ogletree’s first start at safety:
“When he’s been in there, he’s made plays. And he makes plays in practice. He’s a very special player, physically. He’s big; he’s strong; he’s fast. All the things that people thought about him in high school, he is that and more. He just needs the experience, so we want to continue to get him more experience and we felt like now was the time to give him a chance [to start] and see how he responds to it. … From what I saw, he did well. I don’t know if there was a lot of opportunities to make plays or make hits. A lot of their run game didn’t get past the initial wave, and not many balls got thrown downfield either. It was more quick slants and quick outs and things of that nature, so I don’t know how many opportunities he had to really make plays. But it looked like he was getting lined up right.”
Asked who Auburn quarterback Cam Newton reminds him of:
“Oh, wow. Probably a guy like Vince Young in that he’s a big man who can run and throw extremely well and also [is] playing on a football team and in a system that would allow him to be ranked No. 1 or No. 2 in the country. I don’t think there’s any doubt Vince Young elevated Texas, and I think the same is going on with Newton.”
On wide receiver Kris Durham’s status for Auburn after missing the Idaho State game with bruised lung:
“We hope Durham will be back. We do expect him to be back.”

I guess Richt watched a different game than I did. I saw a QB who couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn. I saw a mediocre running game with mediocre backs. I saw an inept offensive line. I saw Thomas fall down several times. I saw Cuff get burned – AGAIN.
And no, 5-5 is NOT good.

Never thought I would hear a UGA coach say “it’s good to be 5-5. Mark, is it good? You’re low key approach to everything makes me sick. Why didn’t you say we’re 5-5 and I don’t like it. We’re going to do everything possible to beat the next two teams. This is how low the UGA program has slipped. 5-5 is not good and is totally unacceptable to the Bulldog Nation. Found UGA’s problem, we are in the wrong conference. See no real improvement, prehaps in the arrests. OB decided in the Fla. game to play like the rest of the team, occasionally. The best offensive line in the country pre season evaporated. Does Richt ever give out any useful information? He likes to deal with the obvious. An example, today is Saturday, so tommorrow will be Sunday and yesterday was probably Friday….we won so that means we didn’t lose. Some obvious things he should talk about, UGA is not a good team, we lose games we should win. We are not well prepared, usually. Our game plans vary, mostly bad. Some players are not well coached, slow to learn or both. Frequently, UGA gets out coached by the opposition during games. Thanks to La La and Idaho St., UGA is 5 & 5. In school that would be considered failing. A.J.’s message to Auburn probably gets translated into…”UGA is a joke”

This I da Hoe team gave less resistance than our scout team. This meant nothing, and the NCAA ought to not allow this type game. now, Auburn. Once we get down 2-3 TD’s and Richt/Bobo abandon their dumb “Percentage down/yardage” play calling which normally results in us punting, and they HAVE to turn Murray loose,we will score some points….Enough, depends on our D. Newton can scramble, which scares me covering . If we could run the ball, I suggest we do it and eat clock.

Apparently, it’s okay that our SEC opponents will beat us as frequently as we beat them. It’s okay that Richt will lose 8 out 10 to UF.
Let’s see is this okay. Remember, Dawg fans made fun of Tech losing to Kansas, who had lost to North Dakota State the week before? Well, that same pitiful Kansas team just put 50+ points and beat Colorado, who beat “you know who.” Yes, Colorado just lost their 5th straight game since beating UGA.

UGA has more problems that it can cure right now. The coach has accepted OK as good enough. The fans gets excited that you beat Idaho State that has one 1 game in two years and is a FCS program. UGA has beaten 3 SEC teams with a Conf record of 2 – 15…yet as fans we scream bring on Florida or this week it changes to bring on Auburn. All wins do not count the same guys. I tis time for us fans to demand more from UGA. There is no reason why we are in the miserable place we find ourselves. Coaches shave been in place, recruiting top classes, no one has raided the coaching staff of the quality assistants (insert sarcastic comment here). There is simply no reason for the demise of UGA football. We as fans are part of the problem…Let’s all demand that it gets fixed!

I’m glad CMR feels good about this win. He shouldn’t. It was Idaho St.. If the offense comes out the next two games and play like they did in the first quarter, we will get blown out. As for Alec Ogletree, he should’ve been in there from the beginning to get the experience because no one else in the secondary has played up to his caliber. He should also start the next two games if they want great play out of the secondary. After making that misstake with Knowshon Moreno, we should have learned something. With the way the season has gone I would have played everybody to get them the experience. Kendrum Malcome should have played because the RBs have not performed up to level. They don’t read the blocking and they don’t hit the hole quick enough. Basically with a new OC next year that will speed up the offense and actually devise a game plan for each opponent we should fair well, that is if we can actually get a talented RB to commit to this lethargic offense. The offense is too boring and too predictable and the defense has too many holes in the secondary. The team needs more enthusiasm and need to get a whole lot stronger and more physical. The RBs go down on the first hit and can’t break tackles. We are not recruiting what we need on defense and we still wait too long to offer players. The overall evaluation of talent is pathetic and we need to do a better job recruiting. Garner and Richt need to pull their heads out of their rearends and learn how to close the deal on the recruits. On recruiting Matt Jones (RB), out of Fla. 2012, he has high interest in UGA and we need to lock him in quickly. We still need to get tougher and that time will start next week with an upset win over Auburn. Go Dawgs!!!!!

Realist, thank you for your comments. It’s about time somebody has come to their senses. Stop setteling for a mediocre team and demand a top rated team. We can’t attract any big time talent. We are not recruiting what we need. They say we need a big physical NT for the 3/4 but, I see no offers or commits for that size player and we only have one LB commit. We should have at least 4-6 Lbs coming in. Still no RBs committed and with the 3 we have, that’s not going to get it done.

Anyone see any similarities to this years Alabama team and the 2008 UGA team? Wal-Mart better get ready to stock Auburn apparel because you know all these fair weather ‘Bama fans need a new team to pull for. If Auburn wins out, Bama and UGA will both finish third in their side of the division. With all that being said, how many people will start to wonder if Nick Saban should be fired? Saban had to replace most of his defense and both of his CB’s this year and it is showing up against good passing teams. Auburn will destroy Bama if they can get it down the field on deep balls. Of course LSU isn’t really a good passing team but Bama made them look good. Georgia will play Auburn a competitive game but they have been unlucky with turnovers all year. Georgia has to be turnover free to have a chance against Auburn. The defense just isn’t good enough yet to defend a short field like they had to against Florida in the 1st half.

More to the point I made earlier…we fans are a major part of the problem. What makes you think UGA can play with Auburn? We lost to Colorado, we lost to Miss State, lost to SC that has proven to be a very up and down team. We lost tot he worst Florida team in nearly a decade and certainly one of the worst offenses they have fielded. UGA has shown nothing in three years to demonstrate they can beat a top program. They have not beaten a top team in years…and they do not even compete against the better teams from another conference. UGA has fallen into a dismal spot. UT plays Oregon, we get beat by Colorado. Auburn plays THE USC while they are on top, we play Idaho State, Alabama plays Va Tech, we open with La Directional. We have fallen low…very low…

This game was a warm up for Auburn, I think the Auburn game will be a good indication of how good this team is, If we get blown out then we know we are not very good but if we win we will know that the close losses were just plain bad luck and not the lack of talent or coaching. It’s been a rough year – it got off to a bad start with the off field situations and our “soft ” schedule turned out to be filled with top 20 teams. Still, I am PROUD of the way these kids have fought back and now they have scored more points in the last 5 games than any team in UGA history…..they could have packed it in at 1 – 4 and said “Woe is us” … but they didn’t didn’t – the coaches have not quit and any fan worth listening to has not given up on them either – all of you posers who claim to be fans that never have anything good to say need to go to a college somewhere and find out what it means to be invested in an institution and its programs. I spent 15 minutes writing a passioned, well-reasoned argument for why people need to shut-up and give Mark Richt the benefit of the doubt through at least 2012. Then I pressed “submit” and the damn thing dissappearted into the ether.
Allow me to summarize: stop parsing every damn word Richt says to find a a reason to fire him. He didn’t say he was happy with 5-5.
That this team didn’t quit this season, even with THREE last-minute, heart-breaking losses. That says a LOT about coaching. We were one play away from the MNC game in 2007. Georgia did as much in 2007 to get to that game in 2002 and 2007 as LSU in 2007, and Florida in 2006 and 2008. You don’t fire a man for catching an unlucky break.
We demanded change last season and we got it. We payed lip-service then to giving CTG time to get his players. Let’s honor our end of the bargain.
If I’m wrong, we’ll get the right man in 2013. No one will blame us.

Hey should be fun watching the Auburn /Georgia game. Gotta stop the run and not allow Newton to get out on the corners. But as of yet no one has stopped him. Hopefully we can shut down their run n make them pass the ball. Be great to beat Auburn but if we dont then i can understand why their undefeated.
Cant wait til you play us at the end of the season though. We’re also better than our record indicates but i think we’ll run on you like we did last year. Ga. Tech 31 Ga. 20. If you beat Auburn this weekend it’ll be by luck or turnovers and if you lose it’ll be because of Newton being too much for Georgia to stop or by turn overs AGAIN.
Cause Dawg Fans are up n down on their team. Cant decide if you want Mark Richt gone, Mike Bobo gone and a new mascot.
Love to see Richt gone and his clonies. Tired of losing to Georgia. Maybe you can get back Ray Goff to coach.
Honestly i think Richt is the best coach Georgia’s ever had there but ever since you guys won the title you have been spoiled to that and expect Georgia to win the title year after year.
You are lucky to have a 10 win season year end n out. But 10’s not enough for you ppl , gotta have it all. (Greed)
Hopefully after Richt is gone you will have to go through 5-7 years of mediocrity and we’ll get better and blow you out with a 10 year winning streak and get all your recruits.

Um, things ain’t quite that rosey. The Dawgs did win 10 games in ‘08 (with about 7 NFL players, including #1 and #10 in the draft), but lost our three biggest games, two by blowout. Saban yeah but in a cpl yrs Alabama’s name will come up through illegal violations on recruiting and get sanctions as Auburn did few years back. Florida the same way cause Meyer will have so much pressure to win their but then again maybe he’ll go to Notre Dame next year.
Florida is about to suffer down years because they have lost probably one of the best OB’s in college football history.
All big name colleges are down this year, USC, Oklahoma, Texas, Alabama, Georgia Tech and the likes that are normally in the top 10.
Every #1 team has virtually lost and here comes the musical chairs. Imagine how those fans feel after winning all those games then to experience something like this.
Ga. Tech fans are complacent with winning the ACC Title and beating up on Georgia every year.
Georgia Fans say beat Tennessee, beat S. Carolina, beat Auburn, beat LSU, beat Florida every year you expect that and when you dont get your way you stand in the corner pouting bout it because daddy didnt get you what you wanted.
Your not happy with the lolly pop…………you want the whole damn box.
We’re happy just to win the ACC or go to a bowl game and beat Georgia. We are more than happy to add to your mis fortunes and dilemma and hear you whine after a defeat. Tech fans are more dedicated to our alumni and coaches than you and a lot more patient than “fair weather fans”.
We are all sitting here laughing cause this georgia coach had 1 bad year and you want him fired but dont know who can replace him. “Uh oh now we’ve fired him and dont know what to do next”. Morons!

I’ve never understood how anyone – even an alumnus – could support and take pride in UGA’s football team. When you look at their history for the past forty years, how can anyone ignore Jan Kemp and the “remedial studies” scam, the Jim Harrick fiasco, the DUIs in the athletic office, the DUIs and other arrests of players, the #1 party school tag (i.e., the most drunk students), the suspensions and outright dismissals, the Fulmer Cup, and on and on?
As disgraceful and humiliating as it is, I don’t see many alums and fans demanding an end to this sordid activity. It sets UGA apart as the kind of school most people abhor, and it’s become an embarrassment to the whole state of Georgia.
Will it never end? Apparently not while Mark Richt is at UGA. Richt is perhaps the biggest hypocrite in the United States. But even with all the cheating and lawlessness that he ignores, he still can’t win the SEC.
So you’re paying him to be BCS champions, but he can’t even win his SEC division. So why do you pay him millions of dollars a year?

I’ve spotted another coaching weakness. Brian McClendon… OMG dude, when are you going to tell our backs to stop running up the OL’s hind quarters? They not seeing the holes 40% of the time and making the wrong cuts 50% of the time. Pathetic.
Earth to Cville, or whatever your handle is… Vance Cuff gave up a TD again and generally can NOT play the position, which is why he thankfully was replaced. Glad he got the pick 6, but it doesn’t change anything… he still sucks!

How can anyone support a program like Georgia Tech’s? Over the last 40 years your program has sucked so badly all the trees in Alabama are all leaning over to the East. Your stadium is a joke, your student body is comprised mostly of Jihadists from Saudi Arabia and Pakistan and you consistently have players that can not count to FOUR. Georgia can be 1-9 and Tech can be undefeated and we’d still beat you. Why? Because Tech plays a High School style of football in a doormat conference.
Tech female students all have frontal packages and your alumnus are working for Georgia grads, because they have protractors sticking out of their pocket protectors and can’t think outside the box. You may not like Mark Richt, but you like Paul Johnson even less. When you nerds come to Sanford stadium get ready for your annual beat down. WE OWN YOU!

Hey DawgByte
November 7th, 2010
11:28 am
Hey, DawgByte: Tech alumni and fans have lives that don’t depend entirely on what a bunch of kids does on Saturday afternoons. College sports are fun to follow, but the biggest reason for going to college is to get an education.
UGA fans don’t seem to care about anything but football, and they don’t care if their players are enrolled in silly majors that no parents who are paying the bills would send their kids to UGA for. The very few football and basketball players who graduate have no job opportunities and end up unemployed or working in menial jobs that hardly require a college degree.
Georgia Tech is a real school with serious academic standards, and that includes scholarshipped athletes. UGA has a long history of being a party school, where parents send their kids for an easy degree, even if the degree itself is practically worthless.
Jan Kemp exposed the crap going on at UGA with athletes being enrolled in courses a ten-year-old kid could pass. That was almost three decades ago, and nothing has changed. If anything, the abuses are more blatant today. Way too many illiterate morons are being recruited, and the very high arrest rate shows clearly that Richt does not care if his players have any morals or self-discipline.
The bottom line is that most Tech fans have very good jobs and productive lives that don’t depend on Tech’s football record for their happiness in life. It would be great to beat UGA more often, but when you put scholar-athletes up against thug-athletes, it’s usually no contest.
It’s pretty pathetic to see UGA fans who typically have never been within miles of a college classroom and who live or die with UGA’s weekly results on the football field.
So keep on posting your “30-24″ all you want, especially since you’re home with plenty of time on your hands. I wish you well, maybe you’ll get lucky and get your old job back at the Waffle House before your unemployment checks stop coming.

CMR said it’s good to be 5-5 AT THIS TIME! Starting 1-4 and entering the game 4-5 I would agree 5-5 is good. Secondly, we are 4 plays away from being 9-1, like it or not, just 4 plays from incredibly good! Hey let’s all go out and get Texas’s DC now eh? They’re not even going to get invited to Birmingham this year it looks like as they won’t even be bowl eligible and oh yeah Kirby looked good yesterday as well as the two worst QB’s in the NCAA lit UAT up big time! Be careful what you wish for as you just might get it.

Against Idaho St anyone should shine. They actually played tough defense and give them a lot of credit to holding the dawgs to 2 FG’s in 1st qtr. Dawgs looked hung over in start of the game until the defense got the picks and Murray settled down. He’s a good qb and hopefully he’ll be a great one but I still think Mettenberger was the better of the 2. Richt was wrong to let him go and its going to come back and bite him in the rear when Mett signs w/Bama next season.
No one should be glad to be 5-5 regardless. AU will be the best team GA will play this season. I have no faith in Grantham’s defensive scheme and he’s not changed it or learned from the 5 losses that if you don’t stack the line against a running team you’re going to lose. Whereas, AU defense is going to be relentless and Murray will be running for his life. It’ll be a miracle if GA wins and all the breaks will have to be in GA’s favor for it to happen.

Texas is 4-5, and their defense has been just as bad as their offense. Guess who Texas’s defense coordinator is? Oh yea, Georgia fan’s boy Will Muschamp! You want to a hire a guy who is having a ton problems trying to control his defense? Just because Will Muschamp yells and gets fired up, doesn’t mean he is a good coach. Coach Richt.
You’ve have got to show some passion. Are you sure you want to be the Coach at Georgia? I still believe in your abilities as a coach but at Georgia ?
There was a time Georgia was feared in the SEC and Nationally. Georgia nevered settled for being medicore. We have lost that “it” and the mystic seems to be gone.
I am asking as a 39 plus year fan of Georgia football and respect what you did early on at Georgia. Is it time to move on or can this situation Georgia finds itself be corrected?
What can be done aboua defense that has consistenly allowed long back-braking running plays and pass completions on them?
We need the “fear” for playing Georgia back, and say, next year, would be nice.
Coach Richt, please give it all you have to get Isiah Crowell and Savonne Huggins.

When are you gonna wake up from your bad dream and understand that its you the fans that put all this pressure on the players and coaches from high expectations.
You post players on bill boards infact to do what? Humiliate them. You whine and grumble and think its the end of the world because youre 5-5. Every big college school is bad this year. You want Mike Bobo fired, then you want Mark Richt fired wats next the mascott?
Tech fans arent as radical as you bull pups are atleast we have some descency and are able to show some restraint toward our coaches.
You guys dont want him, we’ll take him as would alot of teams. This guy is the winningest coach in the SEC and you jump ship and demand his release.
Go ahead and do so then after they hire another HC and you’ve gone thru 5 more years of losing then you’ll be wanting them to fire that coach.
I just think its funny how you so called “fans” really rally behind your coach and team whats even more funny is how we’ll beat you this year and rack up 300 yds in rushing against you so called Georgia Fans.
Even if you get lucky and win then we’ll just simply beat you in higher education and graduate most of our players like you dont do.
Why do you think they leave early anyways? it’s because most are flunking school and cant find a real job that requires using their brain. Keep beating eachother up and we’ll keep beating you on the fields and classrooms.

“tell me again” and “really”
Thank you for some meaningful comments.
Saying the team is not well-coached, not prepared is debatable . Ask Murray if CMB tried to prepare him for the game. I’ll betcha he’ll say he was coached/prepared just fine; that his slow start was his own fault, not the coaches. Ask any of the DBs if they have been coached/prepared and they’ll tell you that when they get “burned” it was not the coaches’ fault. Yes, there’s always room for improvement when it comes to coaching and preparedness. And yes, sometimes the coaches call the wrong formation/play on O and on D. I just think that overall the Dawgs are being coached/prepared very well. I also think that overall CMB calls a pretty good game. Many of the comments here could be copy/pasted into a Falcons blog (”same old running play up the middle”; “the offense is predictable”). Heck, same with some of Penn State’s games this year…or Bama even.
As for firing CMR, most of y’all saying that would sell your souls to the devil to get a Saban or Patrino (”I’m not going anywhere. I love__________and I’m not leaving.”)
We have a chance against Awbun. Disparaging CMR and the team at this point doesn’t help.

Bobo’s play calling and game plan is hard to determine. Ealy or King would have a good tough 8 yard gain and then we would not run again for 10 minutes inspite of being physically superior to the Idaho team.
We need to establish a running game especially against weak teams. Running end arounds does not count.

Call it what you will, but it is 100% normal for fans to want their team to better itself, win more, especially when you had as many top 10 recruiting classes as we have had, and ten of eleven starters come back.
