What Mark Richt had to say after loss to Florida

Opening comments:

“It was a very good game. I’m sure the fans [watching] on TV enjoyed it. The television people probably loved it. It was that kind of game. But it certainly didn’t end the way we wanted it to. I want to give Florida credit. They did a good job of getting prepared and doing the things they needed to do to win the game. I want to give our guys credit, too. I thought they fought valiantly. I don’t think anyone can question their effort or question their competitive spirit. It was just one of those games someone had to lose, and unfortunately it was us. I’m proud of the players and the coaches and our fans and the band and everyone else. It was a great effort by their guys and by ours too. And in the end they won. You’ve got to give their punter Chas Henry credit –- a guy who’s been a punter by trade was kind of thrown into the fire as the field-goal guy and was able to make a big kick.

On Aaron Murray’s play in the first half, when he threw two interceptions and lost a fumble:

“I know this game was very meaningful to him. I don’t think he was approaching it any different. I don’t know if once the thing started he had some different feelings inside of him, but I thought the guy really played pretty well. The first pick –- he threw the ball where it was supposed to go. … [Cornerback Janoris Jenkins] took a chance and made the play. But I can’t sit here and say Murray did anything wrong on that play. The second interception –- I thought the ball was probably catchable. And of course he got hit and fumbled, and he’s got to do a better job of hanging on to that ball.…  The point I’m making is … I don’t think he was making mistakes out of immaturity or because he’s a first-year starter or anything like that. Sometimes those things happen, and you have to decide how you’re going to rebound from it. And he rebounded extremely well. The whole team did. I told the team at halftime, ‘This is one of those games where I can promise you if you treat it like it’s 0-0 and start from scratch again and play hard on both sides of the ball, we’ll get back in this thing and win it.’ And we almost did.”

On the interception Murray threw in overtime:

“… On third down you are trying to get in position to score a touchdown because you know a field goal might not be what it takes. When you are in those situations, you just have to play ball, and they got some pressure and the ball got tipped up in the air and got picked.”

On what he said to the team after the game:

“I talked to them about deciding how they are going to react to this thing. There have been some tough losses this season, no doubt, and we have had some very big disappointments. We were going in the right direction and getting a lot of momentum and actually getting back in the SEC Eastern Division race. A victory here could have put us in a position to be in Atlanta [for the SEC championship game].”

On what now:

“Just keep fighting. Keep grinding. Show up to work. Be a grown man and do your job. And enjoy it. We’ll come back home; we’ll get back to work, play Idaho State, play as hard as we can for the Georgia people; and then we’ll hook it up the next week.”

On bowl eligibility as motivation:

“I’m sure that conversation will come up. What do we have to win, two out of three? I’m sure we’ll be fighting hard for that.”

On how to turn around the Florida series:

“Win a game like this, but we didn’t do it. We’ll be back.”

More reaction to the game:

From UGA locker room: ‘My worst nightmare,’ Murray says of OT interception.

From Florida locker room: ‘I almost burst into tears after the game,’ linebacker says.

Unfortunately, it is not just another loss. It is another loss (8 out of 10 under Richt and 18-21) to a very average UF team. One of many problems for UGA the last 3 years is the lack of “players” being able to make momentum changing plays. I mean the easiet ones!! Commings doesn’t execute a simple fumble recovery inside the Gator 10. Rambo has an easy pick bounce off his brick hands on the gators 2nd to last possession in regulation. T. King drops a very catchable and crucial 2nd down pass late in the 4th quarter inside the Gator 15. Commings, late in the 2nd half, has the gator WR smothered in coverage yet has his hands in the only place possible that would have allowed the ball to get through to the WR. And even though it would have been negated by a false start penalty on the Gators, Dowtin couldn’t execute a fumble recovery that bounced right into his hands.

This is the identity of this team over the last 3 years. UGA makes the simple momentum changing opportunities look difficult where the average opponent executes them as one would expect players to at that level. UGA just doesn’t get it done in that regard.

1. On behalf of Gator fans thank you uga and Mark Richt for the much needed W.
2. Why do you pup fans expect to win this game? Are you actually shocked you lost? Yes we have had a down year but last I checked we are still UF and your still UGA. You clowns act your a college football power house. Last I checked Reagan (RIP) Won the Whitehouse the same year uga won the national championship. My god GT even won a NC 10 years more recent than uga BAHAHA
3. I will order a Papa John’s Pizza in honor of UGA’s potential bowl game this year. Of course I’m assuming you can actually win at home against Idaho State (1-7 Big Sky conf) at home and pull one out of your A** against GT because Auburn will slap you around and continue to run up the score with the 3rd string in the fourth quarter. Best case you go 6-6 but I’m gonna say 5-7 and an early winter for the pups.

At the end of the day, there were plenty of positives and negatives. Although I would have enjoyed winning, the mere fact that this team fought back from a 14 point defecit speaks volume of the character of this year’s team. I also believe that Aaron Murray is going to be a much better quarterback because of the mistakes he made today. As far as Coach Bobo is concerned, he called a great game. We could have gone to AJ earlier but when we did he made some great catches. With that said, there is still forward momentum to finish the year strong and build for next year. Wihout any wholesale changes, this team really does have the potential to be really good but the errors that gave Florida yesterday, have to.be corrected and correctly quickly.

Florida took criticism for keeping Chris Rainey on the team, despite a legal issue with a girlfriend. The junior from Lakeland paid a huge price — missing five games. He was finally allowed to play again in Saturday’s 34-31 overtime win against Georgia. He ran for 84 yards on 16 attempts and made an obvious difference for a team that was struggling offensively.

Afterward, he stood in front of the team and gave an emotional speech.

“Chris is a great person,” UF center and close friend Mike Pouncey said. “He thanked the whole administration, (Athletic Director) Jeremy Foley, the president (Bernie Machen). And he thanked God as well for giving him a second chance. He thanked everybody for giving him a second chance. And without Jeremy Foley and President Machen, it wouldn’t be possible for him to play right now.

“I actually cried after the game because I felt every bit of his pain because I know Rainey, he’s a great person. He’s never been in any kind of trouble and for him to miss … all those games, I know it hurt him to his heart and it hurt me too.”

We’re going to stick to our game plan no matter what. We will not make any adjustments. We will not come up with anything new for Florida or anyone else. We will get the ball to A.J. Green no matter what. We will not play smart and we will not waiver from our predictability.
We won’t go with what is working but will keep doing what is not working. We will not call time out on third down with the game on the line. We will not win against Florida or any other upper tier team. We will sit home during the holidays and not even get a bowl bid.
We will make excuses and compliment the band and fans. We won’t take the bull by the horns and say we were beaten by a “very poor Florida team”. We will keep throwing into their strongest element (their secondary) and we won’t keep running into their weakest element (defensive line). We will take a loss and consider a close loss a moral victory.
I know it’s time for Bobo to go and I am not so sure that Richt can carry Georgia anymore.
This season with five … yes five … five losses should never happen to a talent rich program like UGA. It’s got to be the coaching.

clearly… our new AD will need to make a complete evaluation of the football program from top to bottom to determine where we are as a program.

the state of georgia is fourth in the nation in developing high school football players for ncaa schools.

yet, we are being out recruited in our own state for the last few years and it is being reflected in recent years moving from the top of the SEC to now the middle with the kentucky’s,vandy and other middle- low end schools of the confernece.

the excuses continue from athens ,but nothing ever changes ,but now the school must really determine where we are as program without the colored glasses and it must begin soon or we will be at the same place next year if we don’t.

Coaches can’t correct mistakes, no learning from past errors.

Why didn’t we run the ball?

Richt’s won 100% of the florida-Georgia games when he gets a 100 yard rusher.

Bad, bad, bad game plan.

What a great game! What now for UGA because each year it seems to be the same story where it will be a promising season and then lose to Fla. Ga fans cannot be content with this crappy play each year. Did CMR act mad at all after the game or did he just slink off the stage.

Why are UGA fans complaining about Richt’s record against Florida? He is 2-8 against them and the previous coaches were 1-10. Even if he loses next year (and he will be there next year) he will have doubled the number of wins. Things are headed in the right direction. I’ll bet UGA wins 3 of the next 11 after next year.

He did a great job in making this years game exciting and keeping UGA fans in their seats beyond the 3rd quarter. Hopefully he will still be your coach years from now when Urban gets the win to put UF ahead in the all time series win column.

Meyer should be proud…he let a kid that threatened to KILL HIS GIRLFRIEND and got arrested for it to play because he needed the win. Yea, sure the girlfriend said later she didn’t want him to be prosecuted. But isn’t that what so many abused or battered women say too often when the cops come.
Yes, UGA has had its share of arrests…for suspended license, leaving the scene of an accident, and other for the most part harmless offenses. But Meyer lets kids like Rainey slide.
So congrats UF!! Your felons and your immoral coach has won another one. All UF fans should be proud…

That has to be the worst play calling in overtime of any team in the last 10 years. This was a set up for another interception or a long field goal. The reason UGA cannot beat average teams is due to the play calling . . . wake up coaches!

LOL Most of these quotes are funny. But I think our boys played pretty good, besides the turnovers on offense. They showed a lot of heart and fight. Losin to the gayturds does suck, but I think we’ll bounce back. And Rich is a good coach i thought u could see the players play hard for him yesterday. Damn good game except the end.Go DAWGS!!

If Richt truly thinks those 3 interceptions and the 32 yard fumble by Murray were “good plays” he needs to go. Those were bad plays. Bad play calls. Poor judgment. Immature, inexperienced.

Both teams played well enough to win, although at times it was pretty. But you can’t say it was
for lack of efford—–both teams gave it their all. I would have been more than happy for it to end in
tie. Even though these aren’t the best two teams from either school, they played one of the best
Florida-Georgia games ever.

Guys: this was a beauty contest in a pig troth. Why did UF win?

Chris “Time to Die _itch” had 241 yards. No felon no win (but we reached a plea with a Gaineesville DA-blah blah blah).

Bottom line—neither team is very good. Even with the player that would have definitely helped them beat LSU and MSU, we almost pulled it out besides our mistakes.

UF’s Future: Tim Tebow is not coming back and neither is a dominating UF Team. Most of the last 21 years have been blow-outs. Those days are over. I have been to all but 2 of the last 41 years.
—We will be evening things out.
—Dominating-probably not
—-Being dominated-those years are over

Mark Richt is not going anywhere after this season. No matter what happens the rest of the season, as a UGA alumni I support Mark Richt. His record is better than Dooley or any of the other “greats” in our program history. Overall we are very young and we are going to be better next year. I heard a radio commentator actually blaming the skid on UGA hiring Ray Goff. Good grief! While Ray was not successful he had an uneven playing field with UGA academic requirements being higher than the rest of the SEC and UT and UF were both annually in the top 5 or 10. I also heard we need to recruit better players. When will the media actually stop giving this guy a pass? When will the blame actually be aimed at the real cause of this problem? Mark Richt has done nothing the past 3 years. He does not have what it takes to win when the SEC is not down, although the East is down and he can’t even compete in this case. Our players are mental midgets on and off the field. It is much more difficult to defend Richt staying than it is to justify a change. Look at the record folks. He has one more win against UF than Goff did in 3 fewer years. How much longer do we have to be content with wins over Vandy and a good effort by the band?

“… On third down you are trying to get in position to score a touchdown because you know a field goal might not be what it takes….” Don’t agree with Richt’s comment here; against most teams, maybe so, but if we make a field goal in our OT period it would’ve put real pressure on Fla’s kicker. As it was, Henry knew he had nothing to lose; if he misses the kick, no problem, just go to a second overtime. Our third-down play was one time we actually should have been trying to set up the FG.

Okay, folks you have got to get this thing in perspective. You expected to beat Florida because we beat Tennessee, Vandy and Kentucky! Kentucky rolled up some yards on us too. This isn’t a very good team but the faught valiantly. Realize that untill we stop talking and talking about Florida that the team goes into this game immediately of thinking of all the pressure to stop the streak. Just start treating it like any other game, enjoy it and hope our team comes out on top. Atleast that way the team won’t be carrying all the negative anticipation the fans have for the game.
Also, support our coach. He’s done a solid job and deserves our support. And please Mr. McGarity schedule our bye week before this game every season like Florida does.

The play calling in the OT period was terrible. A low percentage pass into the end zone, a run up the middle for one yard, and a hurried pass over the middle into traffic. There is no reason when you have the best kicker in college not to have at least kicked a field goal and put the pressure on Fla. Instead we gift wrap another game for them. Hopefully either Bobo will be reassigned or Richt will take over the play caliing.

I get tired of reading about UGA being out recruited in our home state. A majority of the top athletes in the state are transplants from many other parts of the country, not Georgia natives, and have no problem going far away from home to play. If the opportunity presesnts itself, many will go farther away because they have relatives all over the country. Why did Matt Stafford & Knowshon Moreno come here from Texas and NJ respectively? Or Aaron Murray and Orson Charles? Quit worrying about losing in state players and coach up the ones that we sign. Every other coaching staff does. And it seems to work pretty well for most.

and…I know….The Gators won because:

10. Chris ‘the felon’ played
9. Florida had two weeks to prepare
8. The game was played in Jacksonville
7. The refs caused those 4 interceptions
6. Murray is just a freshman and a terrible QB
5. Richt is a terrible coach
4. Grantham is a terrible coach
3. Bobo is a terrible coach
2 We would have won if……
……….and the top reason we didn’t beat that horrible team from Gainesville for the 18th time in the last 21 years….is:

……IT IS NOT SUMMER!!!!!!!

……and Jenoris Jenkins is a better CB than A.J. Jones is a wide receiver (man…he shut his arse down!!!)*******

……and Florida is just better the Georgia….even when most of their players are just freshman and redshirt feshman.

FIRE RICHT!!! FIRE BOBO!!! FIRE GRANTHAM!!! FIRE MURRAY!!! FIRE A.J. JONES!!!! FIRE THE WATER BOY!!!! FIRE OBAMA!!!! (it’s really his fault) FIRE OUR NEW AD…(he probably gave all the play call to the Gators)!!!

Other reasons…..

Florida is CUM and only plays felons like everyone else but us.

Florida is on the way down and this game proves it because we almost won…and we never almost win against CUM and his felons.

CUM can’t recruit or coach and he only wins national championships 2 out of every 5 years. Horrible coach.

So….now….we have to put up with Georgia fan nonsense from now until next November when once again…..THE FLORIDA GATORS….crush all those Georgia fans dreams and brings reality back into focus. 18 of 21 and counting. GET USED TO IT….IT AIN’T GONNA STOP ANY TIME SOON. Burton was the key for UF. He took over the game in 4th Qtr. Look at time of possessin and rushing yds. Dawgs can not run the ball consistently. They can not get the ball into the “grass” areas on the field. Too many times UF had tight coverage. Have to give Murrary credit for those completions if you want to bitch about the picks. There were Dawgs rushing plays that should have been for bigger gains but did not. Dawgs failed to cut off lateral pursuit…part due to timing…RBs not close enough behind blockers…linemen and FB. UF has great lateral speed and pursuit. Dawgs need a solid, quick, running game. It is too slowwwww…not explosive in first 7 yds of line of scrimmage.

Here’s the hypocrisy at UGA. On one hand, the institution has enjoyed tremendous academic prosperity over the last 15-20 years (HOPE scholarship) due to the rise in admission applications to the school (2010 over 18,000 applications for freshman seats). This, of course, increases the selection of students which, in turn, increases SATs, GPAs, and rank in class numerics. The result: the institution steadily moves up in academic prowess (think US News rankings, etc) and is able to benchmark itself relative to other high class research I institutions (think UNC Chapel Hill, University of Virginia (a school that UGA aspires to become BTW). The administration pumps its chest over this stuff. Actually, UGA’s rise in academics has hurt other schools in the region (i.e., there number of applications).

On the other hand, though, UGA can’t decide what it wants to become in football. You CAN’T have it both ways (great academics and great athletics (not, at least in the SEC). It has a large number of applicants for the football program (Georgia produces much talent). But, other programs are raiding our players now (Alabama, Florida, Kentucky, Auburn). We had our chance in Richt’s first 5 years to change the landscape of the SEC East and truly reach our program’s potential. But, as it always happens to either pro sports or college sports in Georgia, we lacked the commitment and will to impose our place in the conference. Alabama, on the other hand, knew its place and you can see where they placed there resources (stadium/coach), commitment (Georgia’s fertile recruiting ground), etc. We haven’t drawn a line in the sand with the football program to say when enough is enough.

In the final analysis, UGA can’t have it both ways. I believe we will win an SEC championship perhaps 2 or 3x every 20 years. We won’t sacrifice the academic progress at UGA like most schools have done just to win a darn national championship. So, in the end, it’s hypocrisy.

Auburn…9-0…awesome rushing team from the spread…key Newton, 6′6″, 250. A running QB…11 on 11. Schedule…8 home games. Ranked #1 in SEC and nation.

UF…a new QB…Burton…6′2″, 220…a rushing team from the spread. You know why Myers is smiling Sunday morning. He has a Tebow like player now and a running game. They will see Auburn in the Dome.

Dawgs…no rushing game…same old offense…same tendencies on offense…looks like FSU in the 90s. TEs there in game…one TD…Green less than 50 yds…always in tight coverage…no open space or “grass” for him”. Can not expect your QB to put the ball in a tight space all the time.. 1. I thought Murray play his heart out yesterday….left everything on the field.
2. I think (no, I know) Jenoris Jenkins is the best CB in the country and shut the best WR in the country down for most of the day…although he did make two incredible catches late in the game with Jenkins all over him.
3. I thought Mark Richt and his coaches made great in game coaching changes…both to the offense and to the defense…..and those changes almost brought Georgia back. I thought Bobo called a great game…it could not help it that his best offensive player (A.J. Jones) was being almost totally shut down by Florida’s best defensive player (Jenoris Jenkins…another #1 pick at CB…as a Jr….in the NFL draft this year….alond with A.J. Jones).
4. I thought…and still think….that the coaching problem at Georgia is not with Richt and Bobo….but with Grantham.
5. Orson Charles proved he is a big time player yesterday and gives you guys hope at receiver since A.J. will not be around next year.
6. I was surprised that Florida’s offensive line dominated your DL.
7. Finally….SPEED KILLS…..and Florida is loaded with speed…and a lot of very young SPEED…..including the very fast MLB (Jelani Jenkins) that came out of nowhere to tip the pass in OT to help Florida win the game….and Cody Riggs…the freshman…who came in for the injured soph at CB….and played really fast…and really great.

Jenoris Jenkins is why they did not throw the ball to Green very often…BECAUSE HE WAS COVERED LIKE A BLANKET. You have to be open to catch the ball!!! AND YOU HAVE TO GET OPEN TO HAVE THE BALL THROWN TO YOU. Green didn’t get open very often this year against Jenkins….and he didn’t last year against Joe Haden either…and both Jenkins (will be) and Haden (is) are first round NFL draft picks at CB. Richt will NEVER see the SEC championship again!! I saw a better team that was hungrier for the win. I turned it off after the first quarter. We out gained them 80 yds to 20 and owned the time of possession yet they scored first?? Richt is totally asleep at the wheel. Our running plays are lame ducks, our passing attack looks like its stick in 1993 FSU world. We have some of the best talent in the conference on both sides of the ball and will likely finish UNDER .500?!?!?! Wake up Richt supporters, fryer Richt is 2-8 against the nasty Gators and is turning out to be quite an embarrassment for the fans and school against our “arch rival” NO its not even a rival anymore when UF owns our ass and could care less year after year knowing they will get a win.

Oh yeah and as a proud state of Georgia resident FRIGGIN MOVE THE GAME EVRY OTHER YEAR TO THE GA DOME!!!!!!! What a bunch of idiots we look like down there every year. One day soon our side of the field might as well be empty. Let our great state make some $$ of this pathetic game for once instead of feeding the lizard den with our dollars.

Florida out rushed us big time and if we can’t beat them when they suck what does that say about our program. We are SCREWED the longer Richt hangs around. Georgia wins if the turnover margin wasn’t 4 to 1.
Georgia wins if Meyer doesn’t have two weeks to develop a new offensive unit and the game plan to go with it.

Since 1993, UF has taken the week off prior to this game 13 times. Florida like Georgia will always be solid programs and IMO you cannot let one team have that adavantage over another team in a rivalry game like this one. UF in 1993 started an 11 year run of taking their bye the week prior to Jacksonville.

But in the end, Georgia needs to overcome it and win.

Anyone else see Rambo talking crap and waiving his hands after hitting a guy who just caught a pass for 20 yards over the middle?? I’m so sick of seeing this clown always talking crap trying to be an enforcer over the middle of the field when he doesn’t do anything to disrupt the passes thrown deep. He is constantly being exploited by the other team for HUGE plays. I wonder how much he talked after he let a sure game changing interception slip right through his hands??

That’s one of our major problems. We have a bunch of talk, but very few of our players go out there and make the big time play. Kudos to Murray for recovering the way he did after some tough luck. A.J. made a couple of big grabs. The other tight end didn’t have a good game, but Charles sure did. Goes back to the defense. If you would have told me that we would have scored 31 against Florida, I would have taken it and thought we won. Yet the anemic offense of UF figures out a way to scorch us for 450 yards.

No team can expect to turn the ball over 4 times and win. Not many teams are that good. UGA especially not. UF has the mental hold on this game. All it is. Most of the time the talent is pretty equal, the mental toughness of the players comes into play when teams are this equal. They have it, we didn’t for the most part.

Top Recruit……I agree. Just look at what Oregon’s doing this year. You can feel the energy when that offense is on the field. But if you run the spread……you better dam well commit to it as a complete offensive effort. Auburn has the perfect fit in Newton for that style offense. It seems the days of just pure power football are waning. I would like to see more “thinking outside the box” with our coaches. But I’m afraid it’s going to take some new blood somewhere to turn this thing around.

“GA should have won that game. FL is NOT a good team and has ZERO chance of making it to the SEC championship game. It was funny to watch the ‘Gayturd’ fans after their loss to Bama and LSU. No one was wearing the gear in the ATL metro area – I have friends that graduated from UF and were embarrassed, while The Dawgs still wore their colors proudly during a tough season. Admire the Dawgs for being true fans…and this is coming from an LSU guy that bleeds purple and gold. At least LSU realizes what we have with Miles and our limitations…..you are still in the kool-aid line waiting to be server by Urban Crier and the ghost of Tebow….you are absolutely pathetic….”

UGA 85, the bye week plan is no mystery to anyone. If we have such a problem with it, why don’t we take our bye week before the Florida game also?? The 2 weeks to prepare does me a lot, but that just shows you how stupid we are for continuing to allow them this advantage. We like to alternate our bye weeks from before the UF game and before the GT game (a game meaningless to SEC championships). UF has a big rivalry game for their last reg season game too, but they rarely take the week before the FSU game to take their bye week. How dumb is it to take a bye before your last reg season game anyway?? 11 straight weeks of games, take a week off, play a game, take a month off before bowl?? Doesn’t make much sense to me other than the powers that be want the GT game more than an important SEC game. We already know what GT is going to do, taking 2 weeks to prepare for them isn’t going to matter.

1. Jenkins did a good job with AJ overall. AJ had his moments late in the game. People on here don’t realize that on 2 or 3 occasions AJ had him beat deep, Murray just failed to see him on those two plays. That’s what happens when a Safety crowds in on the box. How do you think T. King got his TD. AJ could have easily had 2 TD’s the same way.

2. The CB’s at UF are very good, but I wouldn’t say that they’re great. AJ was manhandling them like little girls in the open field.

3. Murray’s youth and inexperience showed up for this game, Murray was overthrowing and underthrowing. Most importantly is that he was trying to make too many things happen. Sometimes you have take what the D will give you.

4. Give credit to UF’s D, they put together a heck a gameplan to rattle Murray and it worked. Especially their LB’s, they were all over the place.

5. UGA cannot win unless AJ is a big part of the offense, I don’t know why the coaching staff has not realized this. AJ needs to touch the ball at least 15- 20 times per game. You have to get the ball to your playmakers.

I read from a lot of the UGA fans that they want my fellow coach and friend Mark Richt fired. I have known Mark for ten years now, and I can tell you that we really appreciate Mark and his staff down here in Gainesville. No matter how bad our team might be, Mark finds a way to lose to us. This in turn allows us to win championships, return millions in bowl money to our UF, and then snag the best high school athletes in Georgia the next February. If you were to hire a coach of my caliber, then we would probably lose to Georgia more often than win. So please leave him in place along with his staff.

It is Discipline problem, which in turn should be enforced by the head coach.
1. Dancing on the sideline
2. Individual Celebrating on all scoring plays along with any long yardage gainer.
3. All celebration penaties
4. Defensive play, individual celebrations
5. Fumbles, what happened to recovery first, then run?
Where are our coaches when this is going on?
We are not team oriented.
You cannot use such terms as, we are a young team, and excuse their misstakes.
Its all about coaching, ask Spurrier or Saban.

Is it just me or is A. J. starting to go gansta on us. His first two years his demeanor after making great or ordinary plays were excitable but not over the top “look at me.” He will be a great draft pick without all of the excess. The point is beat UF, or Auburn, or GT and then jump around and poke your chest out. No excuses, Gators won fair and square. They were the best prepared team, had the wrinkles in the O and D to set UGA off balance, and executed where they had too! I hope I never see a UGA player try to scoop and score again. I’ve never seen them do that until this year. I bet we won’t see it again for a long time. Give both teams credit, UGA played hard, played well enough to win, but did not execute. I’d like to blame BoBo or somebody but that is just a bunch of bull. The record is not as good this year, but except for Miss State, UGA has played with more intensity since 2005. Get off of everyones cases. This team has improved every week. I heard a pro scout talk about AJ on the radio out here in Co. He says that he is the best receiver to come out in the last 5 years. He says he needs to come back to the ball, and to sharpen his route turns.

Nobody needs to be fired on this staff. Let them do the job, and let’s see how we feel about the dogs when the year is done. Remember in 1979 they wanted to run off Dooley, and in 1970 too! UNC wanted to run off Dean Smith, and look what is happening at South Bend. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!

NutJob – We take the week between Florida and Auburn the most since 1993. GT and UF each have about 3 games where we had the bye in that period. From what I understand, the schools request 3 weeks as byes and the conference selects the date for the school based on those 3 options. I could be wrong. Many years we play Auburn the week after Florida. This is when we scheduled our bye. But, if we can get the week off before Florida, we should to help turn things around.

People are harping on Bobo and Richt forgetting that we scored 31 points on a defense that averages giving up 20. Something only Alabama and LSU could say until yesterday.

I want to win this game as bad as the next guy, but this one was more about player mistakes than coaching on Georgia’s side.

The Boys played hard and, for the most part, well. They were well prepared, but the off week clearly gave Florida an advantage. I agree with Castle Pines Canine that this game should be viewed in a positive manner. We played with intensity. we were well prepared. The mistakes are a part of football. We could just as easily have won. Obviously, both teams are not up to normal standards, but both played with a lot of grit. I appreciate the effort of our players yesterday. I thought the coaches did a good job of getting us back in the game after the first half. Murray showed he is a great competitor who will only get better.

The naysayers need to go get on somebody else’s bandwagon. As for me and my family, we love the Dawgs and are looking forward to them getting better. I’m confident they will. I like our coaches. We’ll be fine. I went through a worse season in 1979 and was there for every game in 1980. This team is a whole lot better prepared than our 1979 team was. This team has not been blown out by anyone. This team could actually be undefeated. But that’s football. Sometimes a player actually scoops the ball and scores a defensive TD. At other times he scoops the ball and it gets away form him and the other team recovers it and goes on to score. That’s football. Our guys showed a lot of heart yesterday. All Dawg fans should be proud of their effort, continue to support them, and quit complaining.

Go Dawgs!

Hate to say it but we’re still no better defensively. Looked liked a Willie Martinez coached team yesterday. Offensively wasnt that bad, 31 should be enough to beat any team in the country but with our defense maybe 51 should be the offensive goal. Dont think the 3-4 scheme translates well to the college game. Hate to see what Auburn does to us, they actually CAN run the spread well unlike UF this year.. CMR for whatever reasons cannot win against quality opponents even with equal or in most cases better talent. Next year we will be in even worse shape with the loss of Green, Durham, both full backs and half the line. Defense cannot get any worse so it really doesnt matter who we lose there although Houston leaving early will hurt. Lets not act like this is something new with this program, its been going downhill for awhile. Tired of living in the past, Herschel and Dooley was decades ago. Lets actually get with the times and get some quality coaches in here.

In my mind that proves that UGA fans are the STUPIDEST people that have ever roamed the planet. Coaching doesn’t cause people to catch or drop balls. It doesn’t cause the ball to bounce this way or that. It’s just a rough period for the football team. No one loves the game more than I, but it’s a dam GAME. There are lots more important things in the scheme of things than a football game.

1. Florida winning
2. Delusional Georgia fans convinced they have an elite program, and can be considered in the same sentence with Florida / Oklahoma / Texas / Bama / etc.

You are a tier-2 SEC team, who’s only shot at beating Florida comes in years when the Gators are down because of youth or injuries. This was one of those years and you still didn’t get it done.

And don’t blame Richt. He’s as good as it gets for Georgia. You can’t recruit like we do, and you don’t develop players like we do, because…. YOU ARE NOT ON OUR LEVEL and this will not change for 1,000 years.

This one’s on Bobo. Obvious from start Murray did not have his A game. Not his fault. Run the ball, Bozo. 24 touches combined for King, Ealey and Thomas? C’mon. Already forgot how we beat KY last week and Tech last year. No rhythm in running game. Our D was on field too much in first half. They didn’t respect the run so that strong safety could play over the top on AJ. That D was too fast for Murray but at least this game matured him like no other. He felt too much pressure to make plays which is why he forced the ball to a doubled covered AJ in OT. He’s a talented kid.

I am not quite sure what to do about Coach Mark Richt. Another poster, on one of these blogs, mentioned C.M.R. hairstyle (1980’s parted down the middle) that it shows that he is not one to adapt to change easily. Another poster, on one these blogs, penned the phrase “BOBO GOTTA GOGO”. I am not sure if it’s time to start printing and selling the T shirts!

Quite frankly, this game was lost by the coaching staff. The very first play from scrimmage, was our very first play from scrimmage against Kentucky and the UF DB was ready for it! CMR decision to go for the 2 point play too early in the game, also may have contributed to the lost. One thing is for certain, the play calling in the overtime period was really suspect, but what about the play called for the second 2 points to tie the game at 31. Did Coach Bobo make this call? Genius?

The players also lost the game, twice players failed to “just fall on the ball” during fumble recovery attempts……WR’s, TE’s let the ball slide right through their hands and of course there is Aaron Murray with his 4 turnover’s in the game, while playing for him, the most important game of his collegiate career. I for one forgive you Aaron, for this I am certain, you will learn from these mistake’s and become a better QB because of this very game. Thank you for choosing to play for the U.of GA.

Bottom line: We lost this game as a team, that includes the coaches, players, fans and of course even the Red Coat Marching band! What do we do next? We pick ourself up, dust ourself off, learn from our mistakes, by giving “change” a chance and then we get ready for our next game!

WE DO NOT FIRE ANYBODY!

Well maybe, Michael Adams!

Ok I am a Tech fan but I would rather see you Dawgs win all but one game a year! I had a thought about the UGA program and its current situation, Dawgs have a proven coaching staff with a record for winning ( ok we won’t include Bobo). Richt is a class act. He has kept player arrests on a low profile and quietly increased dicipline. Besides even a Techie knows some of those aressts were questionable (fireworks???) He kept the Green incident from bringing the NCAA down on the school and as far as I know runs a clean ship there. Dawgs make more money than almost all programs. Dawg recruits are always top notch. Your facilities are unquestionable.. So is there anything really wrong other than just luck, the law of averages and the fact that yours is not the only program in the country doing this???? For the most part I think it the latter but there is one weak link in UGA athletics, This person hasn’t droped a pass, hasn’t thrown an interception, never made a bad call on the field not even failed to recruit a good player. He has however been at the heart of all the schools athletic woes of the last thirteen years. You my friends need to fire the guy at the top!!! Michael Adams. Either Dooleygate or pantygate ought to have brought this to light. Take it from a Tech fan, a school president can do far more to screw up an athletic program than any other person. Our downfall was Joe Pettit who didnt want Tech to be in athletics and tried to choke it out (we havn’t and may never fully recover). Yours seems to be one who takes far to big an interest in athletics. Kinda reminds me of the days when Ted Turner tried to be the Braves defacto manager.Adams is a prima donna and wants the spotlight. Every time I read about anything he does it it appears he’s doing it for Adams and not for UGA or even education in the state. Be glad to hear your pros and cons on this.

Why do you people constantly slurp the knob of a thug-loving, sub-par coach such as Richt? I’d be mad he was wasting so much of my university’s money, not to mention wasting talent. How do you have talent like Maddie Stafford, Knowshon Moreno, and Mohammad Bin Massaquoi and NOT win a national champion??? You guys have grown way too complacent with a poor coach who plays the “ho hum…..dad gummit….I’m just a good ol boy” routine he learned from his previous employer while going home to bang the babysitter.

It’s time to move on

This one hurt.

At least this year it looked like GA gave an all-out effort. FL executed when they had to but, IMO, GA lost this one more that Florida won it.

Murray’s 1st interception was a good play by JJ but AJ didn’t aggressively go after the ball. Same with Murray’s 2nd … White should have had that pass … it was a very, very catchable ball. The Murray fumble is on him as well as the OT interception (even if it wasn’t tipped AJ was triple-teamed).

As usual, I’ve got some issues with Bobo. I’ll give him credit for getting Charles involved (it’s about time). However, Bobo needs to give Murray the ability to audible (or at least get out of a run to a pass) … Case in point, the 2nd Down play for GA in OT. On 1st down, they threw to Durham in the endzone …. not a bad play … a good throw and Durham has a great chance to jump over the much shorter FL corner … On 2nd down, with 8 in the box and AJ single-covered with the corner playing 12 yards off of him — Bobo runs a draw … — throw it to AJ on a quick pass.. is it that hard?

As for Richt — he’s a great guy but have some fire. Yeah GA played hard but no one plays for 2nd place. A loss is a loss … don’t sugar-coat it.

Another tough loss to a poor Florida team.

first off, we’ll never beat good teams while turning the ball over. you just can’t beat yourselves like that.(and no, that’s not Richt’s fault, unless you go back to him kicking our best QB off the team)

secondly, Miss St gives up a whopping 7 points to Florida. they’ve either got better talent at Miss St, or a better DC. yes, it’s that simple. i think i know which one it is, i’ll let you decide yourself.

Tampagator, JJ didn’t shut down AJ Green my friend… as usual where Georgia is concerned coaching shut down any hopes of a victory. I have to give Meyer credit though for running a single wing offense- which is what it is and make something out of nothing. Georgia has no resemblance of a gameplan plain and simple, kinda sad and a total waste of talent. Bobo wouldn’t know a gameplan if it slapped him the face- it is time for a change at the top with UGA. Believe me if a change was made and we actually got a coach that demonstrated a backbone not to mention discipline players would flock in drove’s to play there.

I don’t think I saw one misdirection play at all yesterday… no naked bootlegs…everything they ran had Murray in the middle of the field- why do you think Florida continued to run the same stunt over and over up the middle with the LB’s… Bobo is the problem— hell coaching is the problem and it has been for years…

It is time for a change at the top…if a change costs us a couple of recruits then so be it, believe me there are plenty more that would love to play at UGA.

Not because of turnover in this one game BECAUSE:

He has a losing SEC E record since 2006.
He now has two wins against Florida in ten tries.
Where we used to struggle with Florida and Tennessee its now Missisippi ST. Vandy and Kentucky.
Our only wins this year is against teams that are worse than we our.
We our often out coached.

Instead of recruiting players based on the number of recruit stars next to the name, recruit for playmakers. Does 4.2 DB speed matters if you’re not capable of making a play for the ball. The starting DB’s are adjusting from zone read to more man covers. It’s been a challenge, next year should produce better cover skills but don’t bring in a DB that hasn’t shown he can cover and defend the ball.

All I read every year is how all the UGA woes started when Spurrier went to UF and took his frustrations from the 1966 Gator Bowl loss 27-10 out on UGA. It is past time after 21 frustrating years for UGA to manup and beat the crap out of this bunch on a consistant basis. If losing 18 of 21 games to a supposed rival isn’t enough to fire a team, coaches, and fan base up I don’t know what is. If it doesn’t make a group of fans and coaches and players hate a team or at the very least STRONGLY DISLIKE them I don’t know what would. It is time to loose the excuses and just DO IT when it comes to UF. Make them put the game back on the First Saturday in November where it should be, stop loosing any top recruits out of Georgia, always have a bye week before UF, get the best Coches money can buy and proceed to kick Gator A$$ for the next ten years. It is not a sin to hold a team to 0 first downs for the second half of a ball game like UGA did to Spurrier his senior year as a matter of fact it would be a welcome change. Get it done Richt or resign! Go Vandy and South Carolina beat UF they are a 5-3 champonship pretender!

He has already almost thrown an interception on his first pass in OT. The announcers are saying — “should UGA dare throw again”? UGA has one of the best kickers in the game. FLA has a back-up kicker. Everyone knows that OTs go back and forth on field goals the majority of games. UGA has an advantage in this area. So, you’re already in field goal range –what do you do? You run and position the ball in the middle of the field. You kick the field goal and put the pressure on their kicker to make one too. Everyone in the stadium knows this. Why can’t CMR and Booboo figure this out? Instead they throw over the middle — a risky play in the red zone. Simply put — UGA got out coached. Clean house except for Grantham. UGA is not getting my dollars any more until they take care of this situation. UGA football is becoming a laughing stock finding ways to lose games with superior talent. Once and for all I’m fed up with it!

4-5 that’s the record, 5 plays from being 9-0 if you think about it. I blame Bobo and if CMR don’t do something about him the blame turns to him. That a fact Jack.

I’m telling you people the stadium is haunted, and it only makes it worse that we play the game on Halloween.

Do not want to hear how FL lost to Miss State.

Who cares as this will not keep the Gators out of the SEC game in Dec?

Bottom line, beat the no good program in Athens again. Now on to the next task, Vandy, then SC. SC may beat FL. If so, they deserve to go. However, we know one team that will not go and may not go to a bowl.

Richt must go……

Ask yourself this question…..is the Georgia football program moving in the right direction? Absolutely not.

Ask yourself this question…. do you think Richt is capable of righting the ship? Absolutely not.

Ask yourself this question…. can georgia win championships under Richt? Not any more, he is content with a good effort, not winning the game……

ITS TIME FOR RICHT TO GO!

RE: What Mark Richt had to say after loss to Florida

Platitudes, platitudes, platitudes. Just looks like Richt cannot beat the better coaches, even when he’s got the better team. Don’t know how much more evidence the fan base needs before they believe it. Meyer comes into the game with a broken down team with zero confidence and still walks away with the win over Richt.

UGA has a coach that’s a really good man on a personal level. That’s what UGA will have as long as Richt is head coach: a really good man who has some coaching ability, but doesn’t know how to lead his team into and through the big battles. The new AD is making some schedule changes that will ease UGA’s load in the coming years, which will further obfuscate the truth about Mark Richt.

As UGA fans, guess we should just learn to live with and love the fact that UGA’s head football coach is a truly classy guy who is regularly outclassed in competition.

I had the privilege of watching the UGA loss on Saturday next to a table of about ten Dawg fans at a local sports bar. At almost any play there was yelling and screaming at the top of their lungs, even if the play was for a three yard gain. There was cursing loud enough for the whole place to hear, they broke a glass and then got appraisal from other dawg fans for doing it. It was a mess, I cant stand UGA fans.

That was one heck of game. Congradulations gators, There’s something bad wrong with the siutation at Georgia and even 10 year old girls along with 99 percent of the people who watch Georgia play over the last two years, knows what it is. Now the question is, is anything going to be done about it and what will it be. Dawg Fan For Life! Go Dawgs! I got four tickets to the toilet bowl I’m giving away.

CMR sounds like he expected to lose and is congratulating the team on keeping it close. Another Golly Gee moment…we all know CMR is a great guy…I just don’t think he is the right coach for us right now. You can dissect the state of UGA football all you want but to to simplify it; CMR’s life is not just winning football games (like a Saban, or a Meyer, or Spurrier, or others), he has an amazing ministry and does so much to change lives. And he should continue to do that…but we need a coach consumed with winning, and he is not. That’s the difference right there. Plain and Simple…it’s time for a change…

We relish in beating Tech…another bad team, from the ACC! Beating a crappy Tech team does not make me feel any better…playing is a BCS game does. And with CME we will never do that.

TampaGator, I have enjoyed your messages. Your first, however, seems to be more of a catharsis than a rational, reasonable analysis. I honestly don’t know or understand why fans of any team bottle up such anger and emotion and then fling it onto some blog. It must meet a need at some level; it clearly is therapeutic for you. I do think you are right about Grantham. You may be right that Green is not as good as your cornerback, though I again don’t see why your attitude is so hostile and your tone so angry. Finally, I hope you are right about Rainey’s future behavior. We can all change, though frequently we need to be punished for our past mistakes. I hope he can change and grow and become a more stable, controlled person; goodness knows we surely need more athletes who are role models for our kids.

Its time for Richt to go. A brilliant OC who is now in over his head. He treats his assistants the way he would have liked Bowden to have treated him. It doesn’t work that way. A head coach who tolerates mediocrity compiles a mediocre record and should not be paid millions. Bye Mark. Thanks for a few good years. Been nice knowing ya.

When coaching has been equal UGA talent is much better we have beaten the folks badly. But when the talent is equal and coaching comes into play I don’t think we have done to much. Maybe a reason why we had such a hard time finding a DC last year. Because coaches know who can coach and who can’t coach.

Watching Richt and the decline, it is Fulmer all over again. Never acts like it really bothers him to lose in this manner, never really jumps on his players when he needs to and never beats FL. Even when TN had more talent, they lost to FL due to coaching. GA would have to be miles better at this point to get over the hump against FL. I’ve seen this movie before. GA’s in a tough position because like Fulmer, Richt won a lot early and he is a nice guy so it is hard to let him go. But for GA to get to the next level though, a change probably needs to be made. That said, a change also means there is the risk it gets worse if you don’t get the right guy. Just look at TN to see evidence of that.

No Mark, it wasn’t a great game and the folks watching on tv SURE AS HELL DID NOT enjoy it. Was it because we didn’t get to see the bang up job the band did? Maybe. Because we lost AGAIN and you don’t give a crap? Yes. That’s why.

I have been an avid Dawg fan since 1963 and from 1969 have held season tickets attending many away games & most bowl games. I am not a UGA grad but my money, loyalty and time have been focused on UGA sports. It is very awkward to write but, frankly, I have concluded that Mark Richt though an honorable and committed gentleman does not have the intellectual and creative strength to match the top tier of coaching in the SEC. His initial success at coaching the SEC was not against the caliber of staff he faces now. If we keep him we keep him for other reasons than his coaching ability but we have to be honest with ourselves.
