Murray: OT interception ‘my worst nightmare’

JACKSONVILLE – A few comments from the Georgia side after the loss to Florida:

Quarterback Aaron Murray on throwing an interception in OT: “It was my worst nightmare, especially to know that my team had worked so hard to come back. I tried to get it out before [A.J. Green] made his cut, and I threw it a little bit behind him.  . . .  At first I thought the tip [by Florida linebacker Jelani Jenkins] would just put it on the ground. But Florida has great athletes, and if there’s a tipped ball still in the air, they’ll find a way to come up with it.”

Murray on Georgia’s comeback from a 21-7 halftime deficit: “We fought our butts off all game. A lot of teams would go into halftime in a game like this and give up, but not this team. It wasn’t the way I wanted us to start the game with an interception, and I thought the whole first half was rocky. But we bounced back and finished strong. You have to be accurate when you play this athletic of a team. I had a little jitters, and I was probably more amped up than most games, but I won’t make any excuses.”

Offensive coordinator Mike Bobo on the Bulldogs’ four turnovers: “You just can’t turn it over. It kills momentum. It gives them an extra series, an extra shot at plays. You can’t do that and expect to win.”

Bobo on Florida containing A.J. Green: “They play a defense where they’re going to have an extremely high safety. We called a lot of things for A.J. that just ended up going to other guys, and the tight ends benefited from that, and so did Tavarres King and Kris Durham.”

Outside linebacker Justin Houston: “One thing about this team I like is that we always fight hard, but a big situation for us today was losing the turnover battle. It’s hard to win a game when that happens. I thought the defense looked good at times, but we have got to learn to play all 60 minutes.”

I think that my name sums it up for Bobo. It is good for Bobo to realize that the turnovers hurt, but I am still waiting for him to realize it is also poor play calling. Good offenses have 3 and 1 and go straight up the middle. They do not try to ge tthe corner. Good offenses realize what is working and stick with it. We were blowing the off the ball for the most part in the first half and then stopped. We got the momentum back headed into OT and what does Bobo do…go for the win on the first play, up the middle and 2 an 10, and then panics thinking that the need to get all of it and try to get a first down all in one play taking them out of the points.

Get a clue Bobo. You are what you were when you played…mediocre at best!

Coaches made great adjustment at half time this game. Florida couldn’t stop our offense. And we shut them down on defense in the second half. We gave up the one touchdown run, that is true. But the field goal came on the long kickoff return we gave up. Our defense then held them to a field goal. How can you possibly blame our coaches when Florida came out and did EVERYTHING different, because they had a week off??!!! They went in the lockerroom and adjusted PERFECTLY. Great coaching yesterday. They had the week off, but we out coached them.

Actually Bobo called a pretty good game. He had no control over the turnovers. Y’all stop blaming the coaches for the lapses of the players. I think the Dawgs gave it 100% yesterday, left a lot on the field. Too bad they came up on the short end of the stick. If they don’t pack it in they could still upset someone else along the way.

Murray is going to be great and UGA is very lucky to have him. The defense will improve as CG gets his recruits to run his system. It was a very entertaining and exciting game. However, will have to play much better to stay with Auburn.

For all of you out there trying to defend Murray, coaches, or anyone on the UGA playing field: Sorry but any rational effort to reach out to the FIRE HIM NOW is a worthless effort. Don’t even try.
So they fire him, bring in a new coach. First loss and it is all the same.
Some people truly need to get a life-when theirs is wrapped up in a football game.
Move to Alabama then you can be in with a whole state wrapped up in the ego of a football team.

In crucial moments, we get more predictable, bad play-calling from Bobo. My main pet peeve is the continual “incomplete on 1st down to Durham on a bad pass, so we run it up the middle on 2nd down, leaving us with 3rd and long AGAIN.” We’d been better the past 2-3 weeks, but reverted back to it against Florida. The CBS announcer pointed out afterward that Florida was loaded up on 2nd down to stop the run, daring us to pass. On that play, AJ clearly had single coverage. So, we run for 1 yard and fail on 3rd and long. After the game, Coach Richt described that series and just glosses over the WASTED 2nd down play. We should stop WASTING plays in crucial moments….. it sets us up to FAIL……… I’m not overlooking the turnovers, failing to fall on a fumble, failing to intercept a pass late that would’ve set us up for the winning field goal, etc., but our playcalling still fails us in the CRUCIAL moments………… We need a Top 5 offensive coordinator to be a Top 5 team….. Go DAWGS!!! Beat Idaho State…………………..

I can understand talk of firing Mark Richt. Although I don’t think it is going to happen, but talk of firing Adams is crazy. Outside a major scandal involving the football program that a college president is aware or sweeps under the table i.e. recruiting scandals or fixed test scores, a collegepresident’s job security should never hinge on the success of the football team. Those who think it should have totally lost sight of what a college university is all about. With all due respect, if anyone disagrees, they have either lost sight of things, don’t live in the real world or have never gone to college a day in their life and think the only reason UGA exist is for Saturday’s in the fall.

It’s time we stopped making excuses for Richt. Granted, he’s a good guy, but he’s making 3 million dollars a year, and the Dawgs are regressing every year. There is no discipline on or off the field, and he is being outcoached in all the important games. And folks who are blaming turnovers, well, in my view, that’s the coaches’ fault, as are all the stupid penalties. It’s time for Richt to go.

Aaron Murray, you are young, but this nightmare has been going even before you were born. Believe it or not, Georgia used to win games like this against UF regularly, but that’s ancient history now. Mark Richt has spent more than half of your life finding creative ways to lose to UF, so don’t blame yourself.

You jack asses who are blaming AM for this game – I guess his bad days are when he throws for over 300 yards againast a supposedly good defense (and that WAS one of his worst performances so far) – I think I’ll take that any day of the week. As for Richt – If he had left after 5 years he would be an eternal hero – the fact is – you stay anywhere more than 3 or 4 years (Somethig UM has yet to do) you will have some rough seasons….USC anyone? Michigan? Notre Dame? Miami? FSU? DO we forget that nobody stays on top forever? Even if you have a hundred year old tradition that wheel is going to turn and one day you will not be so good. As for Florida pounding their chests – How bad is it down there when Meyer thinks beating a 4-4 UGA team is his greatest victorey ever? Yeah – good luck with that one. I like these Dawgs – they are going to be all right….rough year right now but I see the future and it’s looking good.

UGA’s still a major program. It makes a lot of money and has a national brand. It’s not an elite program, but it never has been. Richt has been slipping over time, and he’s getting mileage now from his earlier successes. I think it’s fair to say that UGA is respected, but not feared. As long as the program is making money, and the product is still entertaining, Richt’s not going anywhere. Even among the elite programs, only one wins the NC. Guess that makes all the rest losers—-just like us. Back off, enjoy the game, the season, the close loses, and the good wins. And marvel at the fact that grown man can make a good living from commenting on games they don’t play, have no influence over, and aren’t responsible for. Then tell me why I should take any of this seriously.

The good news is that eventually this too shall pass and the fortunes improve. So don’t sweat it. It is apparent that the Dawgs have not given up. They played their hearts out. Bobo is probably the worst offensive coordinator in the game today. His comments ara meaningless because they are right out of Football for Dummies. Everyone in the stadium, including the opposing defense, knows what he is going to call. He and Lakatos are pure poison on this team.

Hmmm; interesting that the OT interception is Murray’s biggest nightmare. Seems to me that a bigger nightmare would be running the wrong way up the field for 25 yards then, before finally going down, fumbling the ball another 5 yards up field.

Yep, definitely for me that would be the bigger nightmare . . .

The interception in the OT didn’t lose the game. The game was lost in the first quarter when we should have been ahead 14-0 instead of 0-0 the way it was. No killer instinct and a scared RS freshman QB playing Florida for the first time. Murray brought us back but we should have never been that far behind.

All the times we wanted bobo to throw the ball instead of running up the middle? Well, in the OT EVERYONE knew we were going to throw. Why not fool them with a running play and try to get the 1st down and if not, kick the FG and get the lead? That kick the florida kicker had to make would have been a lot different in terms of pressure if he is making it to tie the game. Also, the playcalling in OT for Florida would have maybe been different if they had to score a TD to win.

Murray is going to be really good before he is through. The defense has got to start getting better. Anybody suggesting a head coaching change needs to look at Tennessee?

Would Tennesse be better or worse today if they had kept Fulmer? Nothing against DD. The mess was inherited.

Murray really sucked the first half and I was questioning him as a Florida boy helping out Florida but when he came out at halftime you saw his heart the remainder of the way. @Jerry Alexander You are so right, CMR has no creativity what so ever…although I hang this one on AM and the team more than coaching, I think coaches should understand AM being from Tampa (my HS at that) was going to be amped up. CMR/Bobo should’ve have schemed plays to help settle a freshman QB down in the biggest game of his young life. AM made some bad mistakes, but the fumble was actually a kicked ball, but had he got rid of it or had it tucked better maybe he doesn’t lose all those yards. What also had me ticked off was watching 2 UF fumbles be lost because they wanted to run with it rather than fall on it…-14 points right there. And why don’t we get our play makers the ball…UF made sure, regardless or formation, their big play guys got the ball. Richt is a great guy, and I am not knee jerking when I say this and never changed my mind when we had a nice 3 game streak, but it’s time for a change. We need someone who wants to be a football coach, not a missionary. No turning the other cheek, we need someone who crushes cheek bones…Most of the Dawg fans here are delusional. Wake up! UGA is a mediocre team at best…we have great talent but we consistently underachieve…this golly gee crap has to end…look at the teams who are consistently in the NC race. Their coaches are fearless leaders…who take no prisoners, a la Spurrier hanging 1/2 a 100 on us IN Athens…so either we no our place in the SEC as a good team, destined to be 7-5, 8-4 and go to a nice bowl game, somewhere warm, so all the complacent Alumni can have a nice getaway or Michael Adams needs to get off his ass and make a wholesale change in CMR and his staff. And….with a week off UF had an ENTIRE new offense schemed for us! Pathetic…I came to UGA by choice not because of some family legacy or being a lifelong Dawg…but I am 100% Dawg none the less, but when I go home to Tampa I see a completely different attitude with the fans (and the coaches and the players)…they EXPECT to win every game…and we do not. And as long as the Dawg nation has this BS golly gee willakers attitude and accepts mediocrity we will be mediocre…plain and simple.

@bitter buck belue are you serious? “There are a lot of teams worse off than we are”…WTH does that do for US!? And FYI…without Herschel, Dooley is mediocre too…you are the stereotypical Dawg’s fan these days…we don’t expect to win, Golly Gee BBB we’re lucky to have such a nice coach in CMR…he goes on mission trips, has an orphanage in Ukraine and we just love him to death….STOP!!!! This is college football in 2010…this is a business and huge in many ways to UGA…there is NOTHING even remotely similar to how things USE to be during CVD’s days…you don’t help shape young men, you don’t build character…YOU JUST NEED TO WIN FOOTBALL GAMES. And 95% of the players today rarely (if at all) spend any real time with their head coach…This is about winning and the a direct correlation to generating revenue: TV, merchandising, commercials (a la CMR’s Ford gig) and bowl games…the revenue from these pay for the other sports and facilities. CMR needs to make a wholesale change: not in coaches, but in attitude…the way things look they’re probably singing kumbaya at fregging practice. And all you who are over 50…we don’t care about Wally Butts, or CVD…most of us never saw Herschel play on TV, let a lone in person. You have succumbed to looking at things other than winning…and you are out of touch with Div 1, SEC, collegiate football in 2010.
