Gator LB: ‘I almost burst into tears after game’; Meyer: ‘Biggest win we’ve had’

JACKSONVILLE — A few comments from the Florida side after the win over Georgia:

Florida linebacker A.J. Jones on beating the Bulldogs: “Man, it feels great. I almost burst into tears after the game. It feels great to beat Georgia, bottom line.”

Punter/placekicker Chas Henry on his game-winning field goal: “When I hit it, it felt good, but the first one that I missed felt good too, so I kept my head down like Coach Durkin and I talked about. When I saw it go through, it was the best feeling I’ve had.”

Coach Urban Meyer: “This is the biggest win we’ve had. We’ve had some great wins around here and maybe some that people would say were more important. I’d probably argue that. This is the biggest win that I can remember in a long time. . . . That was an emotional locker room. These guys have been to hell and back in the last three weeks. Why was it so important? Because we got our brains kicked in the past three weeks and we needed to get the ship righted.”

Rainey girlfriend and mother showed up in court the next morning after Rainey was arrested. They told the judge that she didn’t want to press charges, that Rainey has never ever threat her or anyone before. All they wanted was someone to get Rainey away from the apartment.

I have three comments to make about yesterday’s Florida:

1. Of the two key players in the Game, Georgia QB Aaron Murray is from Florida and Florida kicker Chas Henry is from Georgia. Such is the trivia that makes this series so much fun to follow.

2. The Gators got lucky, again. But at what point does “luck” become something more?

3. Aaron Murray is going to be a great QB for the Dawgs. He deserves a better offensive coordinator, though.

4. The all-time Florida-Georgia series record now stands at 46-40-2. Seven more years, Dawg fans. Seven more years.

I don’t have a problem with the Florida players per se, although I hope Rainey’s girlfriend kicks him in the **** so hard he can’t breath and loses his ability to father children.

Meyer on the other hand, is a different story. STFU. If this is the biggest win of your life, you’re an idiot. Plain and simple.

One more thing, here’s the good news, Charleston Southern said they would play Florida for you and take the @ss kicking so you do not have to, give them a call

Hey Uga fans. Question : What do you get when you mix Mike Bobo with Stacy Searels ? Answer : Cameron Newton at Auburn and Ben Jones at Center. These small town Georgia good ole boys with their attitudes adversely affect their ability to make objective decisions regarding recruits and personnel which result in you losing to Florida yet again. The problem is that you Georgia people recognize it and support it! You’ll always be an over-rated program until you step up, get rid of this element that makes decisions as if it were the 1950s, and demand a program commiserate with modern times.

Urban says this is their best win of the season, which does not say much about their season. Who can’t beat this pitiful team? I am just really tired of the same play, or lack thereof, every year when we play this game. I think it has to come down to coaching and we are lacking that.

Mark,

Here’s a good story piece. “GT to End UGA’s Bowl Streak?”

UGA is now, below .500 at 4-5. They’ll beat Idaho, should lose soundly to Auburn that puts them at 5-6.

If UGA loses to GT, then UGA will be 5-7 and be home for the holidays watching the bowls on TV all because they would lose to GT.

Oh man. I am absolutely relishing the thought of that.

Happiness is… A sad dawg fan. When you lose, it always goes back to beating Tech. You should beat Tech, with all of the years of superior recruiting, always top 5, but nothing to show for it. UGA gets the best of the best and whomever they want each year. FLA should be your biggest rival but since you never can beat them, suddenly it is Tech again. I think if UGA beat GT by 3 in overtime, we would never hear the end of it. But when you are the loser, well it’s nothing for them to brag about. The AJC and all the media blow UGA up each year and make excuses over and over for you, you never get negative coverage like GT. So stop whining and accept the fact, you are highly overrated.
UGA fans are so arrogant and for what?? (P.S. I am female non GT graduate)

All you UGA fans complaining about Rainey are delusional. I guess none of you have ever said anything in the heat of the moment that you didn’t really mean and had to take back later? And none of you notice the hypocrisy of your own coach…just like his mentor Booby Bowden, he kicks scrubs off the team under a policy of “zero tolerance” but welcomes starters back after they serve a short suspension against teams like Vandy or Idaho State.

One last thing…what’s more dangerous – a guy who says something stupid in the heat of an argument, or a bunk of drunken Dawgs driving around the streets or Athens threatening the lives of every man, woman and child whose path they cross? Let’s hear you defend that.

No, the SAD part about the Rainey situation, is that many outlets reported, and i even believe court recorders released this info too, that the VICTIM was threatened by “many” third-party (had absolutely no place in the matter) for having Rainey prosecuted, mostly because of course they were UF fans, and with those random phone call threats from many strangers, she “decided” not to go further with pressing charges. Sounds a bit like strong-arming a witness/victim if i’ve ever heard of such. Not that Rainey mattered that much in our (UGA) particlular situation. UF has several fast ball-carriers who would have gotten just as many yards on their carries, had the suspension been upheld. If it was Burton, it would’ve been more significant. UF played a great game, and so did UGA. UGA’s problem wasn’t Chris “time to DIE bit&h” Rainey, it was trying to pick up and run with several UF fumbles, only to lose to ball and give it right back. We lay on those fumbles, we win that game with a tied TO ratio. Gotta give it to the gators, they won in a great game. Still love my Dawgs and CMR till the end though.. The man’s 8-1 against tech, how can you not love that? Go Dawgs!

Mike T.—-

The modern University of Florida, first known as the “University of the State of Florida,” was created by the Florida Legislature in 1905 when it enacted the Buckman Act. The new university was formed after all of the existing institutions of higher education in the state were abolished by the Buckman Act and four of them were consolidated to form the University of the State of Florida and two were consolidated to form the Florida Female College (the future Florida State University).

Georgia claims a 1904 win over one of the University of Florida’s four predecessors. From Florida’s perspective, it’s hard to see how you lose a game to Georgia when you didn’t legally exist until 1905. But, I suppose it’s important to find a win over the Gators anyway, anywhere, any time you can.

So, the series record stands at 46-40-2, or if you prefer, 47-40-2*. Anyway you slice it, it’s unlikely you will be able to claim an advantage in the all-time series in seven years. Either the Gators will lead the series 47-46-2, or it will be tied 47-47-2*. You see, I do know my Florida-Georgia history, and I chose the words of my gentle taunt very carefully.

Until the off week issue is addressed, we’re facing an uphill battle trying to gain any traction against Florida. We’re on the road late at night in Kentucky last week and they are sitting at home resting. You’re telling me this doesn’t work in their favor? Get real. Nobody wants to talk about it because the are afraid they will be accused of making excuses. Its not an excuse. Its a reality.

What a load of crap. Sounds more something Florida devised back when Georgia was win regularly
and most Gators were where we are now wondering when is it gonna end.So it was more like a way for
Florida to have one less loss to the Dawgs.I wonder if Bowden’s school in Alabama Samford doesn’t count their football record when they were Howard.Only something out of Gainesville.

dawgfan ,
We had the open date before last years game, what was the score 41-17 FL, yes it helps in ways to have the bye, rest people, get people well, etc.but it more than just that, as someone blogged the other day, before the game, it was stated perfectly that Florida views this game as the most important game on their schedule, and the Georgia prepares for this game as if was still 1975 and Florida was just a tad
better than Vandy.Look at the comments made by Florida after yesyerday’s game.”I almost burst into
tears” Meyers said this was the most important win they’ve had.Think about it he’s won two NC down there, yet beating the Dawgs in OT has got them estatic. A four loss Georgia team.I’m sorry, I lke Richt

A lot of crimes by Ga players are kept quiet by richt. If they punished all the players for all the stuff they do, they couldn’t field a team. Hey dawgs: how did that low class taunting of uf get you in the overtime!!! They just never learn–every year, the dawg players try something new to get “motivated” and it backfires.

Mike T – good point above on preparation. Really, the game could have gone either way. Richt is a good coach and a good man (as is Meyer in spite of the hate). Richt will again realize success at UGA.

We have a rivalry like no other in the SEC. Neutral field, 50/50 fan base. Really cool set up and I’m glad to be a part of it.

Good luck the rest of the season!
