Florida’s Meyer: WR-RB Rainey will play against Dogs; K Sturgis out

Florida wide receiver/running back Chris Rainey will play Saturday against Georgia, Gators coach Urban Meyer said at a  news conference in Gainesville, Fla., tonight.

Rainey is likely to split his playing time 50-50 between slot receiver and running back, Meyer indicated.

Also tonight, Meyer said running back Jeff Demps, who has been bothered by a sprained foot for the past five weeks, is making progress and will play against Georgia. But Meyer said placekicker Caleb Sturgis will not play after aggravating a back injury.

Rainey has not played since his Sept. 14 arrest on a felony charge of aggravated stalking for allegedly texting his former girlfriend, “Time to Die [expletive].” The charge subsequently was reduced to misdemeanor stalking as part of a deferred prosecution agreement, and Rainey was reinstated to the Florida team on Oct. 11. He did not play in the Gators’ Oct. 16 loss to Mississippi State, but Meyer said last week that Rainey would be eligible to play against Georgia if he met the conditions of his reinstatement.

Yes,

If AJ Greene threatened to kill a woman, he should be kicked off the UGA team. It doesn’t matter who the player is. Speeding tickets, moped violations, missing class, selling a jersey for 1K, or underage drinking should be punished, but if AJ did anything like what is being discussed here, I wouldn’t want him playing for Georgia. I’m not saying I wouldn’t be bummed about losing him, but I’d tell him good luck in the NFL and don’t let the door hit you on your way out.

TAMPAGATOR,
You mean to tell me that Caleb King not showing up in court for a speeding ticket violation is on par on the morality scale as Chris Rainey texting a death threat to his girlfriend? Who are you kidding? THAT says it all about YOUR sense of morality, which apparently assumes that as long as a player can catch and run with great skill, he can be a scumbag of the lowest order and be totally acceptable to wear the blue and orange of UF, a truly great football program. What would TEBOE say about that? Coach Richt would have thrown Rainy off the UGA team immediately for such trashy behavior. Prepare to die on the gridiron today Lizard!

OK TAMPAGATOR,
I just read your long long response to all the UGA bloggers, and you do make some good points and sound a lot more reasonable that the first impression. You clearly can write, have the gift of making a convincing argument and love to win….. which is why I am betting that you must be a successful lawyer! All points taken, and Meyer is a great coach with a great program, great rivalries come from the pendulum swinging both ways over time…. and the time has come for UF to go down to UGA today. IF I were you, I would pray to keep it respectably close and not get blown out big time by this particular bunch of Dawgs!
