Florida wide receiver/running back Chris Rainey will play Saturday against Georgia, Gators coach Urban Meyer said at a news conference in Gainesville, Fla., tonight.
Rainey is likely to split his playing time 50-50 between slot receiver and running back, Meyer indicated.
Also tonight, Meyer said running back Jeff Demps, who has been bothered by a sprained foot for the past five weeks, is making progress and will play against Georgia. But Meyer said placekicker Caleb Sturgis will not play after aggravating a back injury.
Rainey has not played since his Sept. 14 arrest on a felony charge of aggravated stalking for allegedly texting his former girlfriend, “Time to Die [expletive].” The charge subsequently was reduced to misdemeanor stalking as part of a deferred prosecution agreement, and Rainey was reinstated to the Florida team on Oct. 11. He did not play in the Gators’ Oct. 16 loss to Mississippi State, but Meyer said last week that Rainey would be eligible to play against Georgia if he met the conditions of his reinstatement.

@Jeff ….I am sure that 99.999% of Florida fans feel the same way you do. Just like 99.999% of UGA fans felt that Mett had to go after his situation.

I sincerely hope I never, ever hear a gayturd call UGA thuga again. The unmitigated audacity of those transients down there is laughable . Rainey , I guess , to those people is a solid citizen.

Punishment fit the crime. Glad he’s back! Meyer made the right choice and all coaches would’ve done same thing based on facts not haters comments. Tampa Gator this is the Atlanta Journal you know who you’re dealing with…. Not Gators but Gator haters…and Florida gets many reads in Georgia for many reasons and the big one is all these posts we make just so you know….Anyway good game coming up…Can’t wait

To even think this should have anything to do with football is sad. We’ve all seen the statistics. If this girl were dead we would all be crying why wasn’t something done sooner? Well this is why. The police can’t provent crimes especially when criminals get taken care of…until it’s too late. Hope you fans who think winning this game is more important get to look on the bloody face of the next girl he beats because guys who don’t know it’s wrong to threaten girls, don’t know it wrong to “put them in their place.”. Trust me. I see it every day. She’s a girl. Stand up and protect her.

My wife made me so mad many years ago that I walked her to the front door and told her in a very angry voice to leave and never to come back!!!….that was 32 years ago and we have been happily married for every one of those years and and three more….except for ONE DAY when I did something really stupid which she had the grade and dignity to forgive me for….thank God….and I became a better person after doing something really stupid that could have cost me the love of my life. No different with Rainey……my friends. And he had never done anything like this before in his life….and not since. Simple as that. Now…focus on the football game and the best team wins.

TampaGator….come on man. Take off the orange and blue sunglasses for just a second. All of Georgia’s arrests (while very stupid and wrong) were for either underaged drinking or for a suspended license. Not for trouble with women. Zach Mettenberger had trouble with women and he was dismissed. As for this whole “20 years” garbage yall always spew, until Florida breaks ahead in the series, it really doesn’t matter a whole bunch. And Florida a top 5 program in the country? Not now they’re not.

big difference in the “trouble” with women. One touch and fondled a women without consent. The other made a verbal threat that he did not follow through on. Your Zach boy has seemingly made his life better…and seems to have made things right in his life now…as Rainey has….and he also deserves a shot again.

For Rainey….with his history of never being violent before….I doubt he will ever make that mistake again. And…as I have stated many times and most people who know Rainey believe….the concussion he suffered that day had a lot to do with his actions.

TampaGator I see you have no answer for Zach Mettenberger. This kid played little league with CMR’s son. CMR watched him grow up. From everything reported Zach had never been in any trouble either and we REALLY needed him. But CMR dismissed him from the team and every UGA fan I know would of been upset if he had not.

Tampa Gator,
Are you serious with all of these ignorant comments, nornally you’re one of the best posters on this blog. That really can’t be you.
You are going to compare King to Rainey, alright, whatever floats your boat.
Dawg fans should not be concerned about UF reinstating Rainey. Honestly, that’s a “them problem.” Urban is the one who is putting himself and his university at risk. I’m kind glad the kid is back on the team because I know that its only a matter of time before that kid screws up again. This decision will blow up in their face, the same way the decision to go with Brantley instead of Newton. And no, Cam was not kicked off the team he transfered.
You know that the Gaytor fans are nervous about this game because they’re all over different blogs getting in their potential last comments in, kind of funny to see.

TampaGator, you have spent a lot of time and energy defending Rainey. You have described him as a sensitive, innocent young man who experienced a momentary lapse in judgement. Concussion related? Really? Do you truly believe what you have written? Because he plays for your school, maybe? It is hard for me to believe your sentiments are sincere, objective, and fair-minded. Rainey clearly has relational issues and destructive tendencies; please don’t use this blog to try to convince us of his good character and high moral fiber.

Patrick….yes…..and meeting over 20 stipulations set forth my the University of Florida, the Florida coaches, and the players on the team…and none of them were easy stipulations. He had to earn his way back by meeting all his legal requirements, perform at a high level in academics, earn the respect both off and on the field of his coaches and players….work his tail off on the field…be sqeaky clean in the community…..meet a series of standards in relationship with the girl….including meetings of the coaches with the girl and her family…and they gave the go ahead to put Rainey back on the team….and they are the parents and the person who received the call. If they are for Rainey…I have nothing against him…as long as he met the requirements and earned his way back….and he did. End of story.
And….like I said….I hope your former QB gets a second chance too…and his offense was a lot worse than Rainey’s offense with a women.

Happy and tampagaytor….. Coach Richt kicked a true freshman off the team a few weeks ago for under age drinking and dui and you think he would have handled this the same ???? COM’ON MAN!!! Urban has never been under fire and he is dying to change that . in the last 24 months he has lost Tebow, Dan Mullen and Charlie Strong and these are unchartered waters thats not to mention the stress related chest pains that were serious enough to make him contemplate retirement. And now you have lost 4 in a row but he is bringing Rainey back because its the right thing to do… RIIIIIIGHT! I just have one question for you if this is what you think he shoud do then what the heck happened with that Cam Newton kid why was receiving stolen property worse than threatening someones life that dont add up either. So yall say or think what ever you need to to make yourselves feel better about this but it looks to me like your coach has sold out his beliefs or maybe they left with Dan Mullen. I am not going to make a prediction because we have lost this game to many times when we were the better team, but i will support my DAWGS no matter what and i will say that the future is looking mighty bright !!!!!

RomeDawg mentioned Wooden not scouting the opposition. Years ago, an SI article about UCLA had an anecdote illustrating what you said. UCLA was playing Minnesota, and Keith Erickson was assigned the task of guarding his Minnesota counterpart. Erickson said it did not take long to realize this guy was a great player. He was lighting Erickson up. Erickson said, “We had no scouting report on Lou Hudson.” (For you younger readers, Hudson is an all time Atlanta Hawk great.)

Hey Tampa Gator, Caleb King was suspended for not showing up in court for a speeding ticket. He wasn’t suspended for making threats to KILL someone. If Rainey had been at Georgia, his butt would have been kicked out of school. What a thug!!!

Tampa Gator you have been busy tonight! Whoever plays from your team or our team doesn’t matter. The facts are that the players will be players. They are just a spoiled cross section of society as a whole. The good news for UGA is that they faced this offense 3 times this year. It could be a good game, or a UF blowout. I really don’t have a feel for it this year. UGA has as good of talent as they ever have had, and so does UF. Both coaching staffs have struggled this year with new QB, and defense changes. My thought on suspensions are the coaches know what they are doing! I’m sure that we don’t know all of the details on the Rainey deal, and unlike UGA which has to perform under FOIA requests, UF doesn’t. UGA had two players like this, Richt kicked them both off of the team. UF has continually sought to Rehab these players on the field. Who cares at this stage. My pick for this game is UGA 38, UF34. Florida will come out in an option attack of some sort. That is my guess.

There’s definitely a big discretion between King’s arrest and Rainey’s. And I’m not just saying this because I’m a Georgia fan. Last time I checked, death threats were pretty good grounds for being not only kicked off the football team, but expelled from the university.
I’m just happy that Meyer held this thug out for so long. The “suspension” he gave Pokey Spikes for trying to blind Washaun Ealey last season was outright offensive as it displayed the utter lack of respect he has for his opponents.
I’m amazed (but not at all surprised) that Florida fans have the nerve to call Georgia players thugs without looking in the mirror. I just know I’d rather cheer for kids who get arrested for underage possession and missing traffic court dates than kids who try to blind opposing players and threaten to kill their girlfriends.
GO DAWGS!!

Tampa Gator,
Domestic violence is not always told by the person that suffers it, they always believe the person when they tell them they will never do it again. But that’s BULL, when they get away with once it happens over and over again. So you should really leave a subject you have no idea about. Domestic violence is a hidden thing and until someone stops it goes on………………………………, because it is hidden. Women are not put here to be push around by men. What would you say if this happen to your daughter. So until you have walk in these women shoes and been through what they have, maybe go to one of the shelters that these women and children are at and see what you think you know. No human on this earth is put here to be threaten by anyone. This is not about football, it’s about getting away with threatening some one life. The Fla fans I know do not think it’s right. So I guess you think it’s okay for kids to Bully other kids until they kill their selves, just as long as they can play.
I love football and I am a true Bulldawg fan, but I will never believe that it’s okay to threaten a woman life or anyone life. It is just WRONG AS HELL

TampaGator..you get so mad when people disagree with you…why so angry all the time…as far as Rainey, i think Meyer will lose a lot of respect from some people and that includes some gator fans…Comparing what King did to Rainey…well you know what the answer is and you know there is a huge difference…if you want to compare…lets take what our QB Mettenberger did which is similar as it was violance against a young woman…now he didn’t threaten her life with a text message..but he did put his hands on her inappropriately…was he a good kid that deserved another chance…yes, but not at uga…Coach Richt did what had to and adding to the situation was that the young man’s mother worked in the athletic office…now Rainey’s situation only involved threatening her life…i’m not aware of any physical violance…does he deserve another chance…yes…should it be at Florida…i wouldn’t think so…but Meyer saw differently…is he right..i don’t know, but from the outside looking in, i think he will lose alot of respect from and believe it or not many will be gator fans…Neither school can be proud of the off field issues…Coach Richt at least has made an effort to change things going forward….and no i don’t mean “0″ tolerance, but i believe you will see few and far between for second chances, especially if its DUI or any kind of violance…King’s was not that type of offense…i don’t know maybe we are being too hard on Meyer…it will be interesting to see how this works out…but reading some of the comments not only here but on some other media sources..some respect for Meyer is being lost…but a win with Rainey in the lineup may cure some of that…go dawgs
