Injured knee might keep Ealey from starting vs. Florida

ATHENS – It remains unclear who will start at tailback for Georgia on Saturday, partly because of Washaun Ealey’s knee injury, coach Mark Richt said Wednesday night.

“I don’t even know who’s going to start right now,” Richt said. “If Washaun was healthy the entire week, he might have gotten the nod.”

Georgia held a walk-through practice Wednesday indoors at the Ramsey Student Center because of lightning in the area, but Richt expressed doubt Ealey would have been able to participate full-speed in a regular outdoors practice.

Richt expressed optimism that Ealey’s knee, injured late in last week’s win at Kentucky, will be better by Saturday’s game against Florida in Jacksonville.

“It’s really more of a bone bruise; it’s not necessarily anything structurally wrong,” Richt said. “But it’s bothering him right now. In a few days, that will subside and then you add a little adrenaline to it and he’ll be fine.”

If Ealey doesn’t start, Caleb King likely would.

Ealey, who ran for 157 yards and five touchdowns on 28 carries at Kentucky, injured the knee midway through the fourth quarter. He left the game briefly, then returned to make his longest run of the night, a 41-yarder.

Ealey said Tuesday that the injury was diagnosed as a mild MCL sprain, adding: “It’s really nothing. Basically, just a bruise. . . . I know I will be playing.”

and I suppose it would be more prudent to let them practice out in the lightning Einstein? Take your prognostication elsewhere.

I’ve noticed that Bama doesn’t discuss injuries during games. And they play things close to the vest in the weeks leading up to a game.

I’d like to see UGA provide less information as well. The less the opposition knows, the better.

Was like when Auburn had no idea that James Jackson was gonna sit the game out in the 80’s and Wayne Johnson was going to take his place. Then again, we did get the hose on account of that.

Does it really matter? Florida’s defense is not going to be giving up much yardage on the ground to Georgia, they have a stronger defense than most of the average Bulldog fans realize. It will be a harder time scoring unless Murray is on target. The DB’s at UF are pretty darn good as well and can shut down a reciever if they want to.

This time of the year (GA/FL, meat of the schedule) is not the time to whine over a bruise. Ealey and everybody else needs to suck it up, play through the pain, and get out there and grind some Gator meat into the turf!

Hey stirring
Didnt miss st. run 26 times on florida out of 27 in the second half and still won. Yeah your DBs are good but they play alot of man coverage. If we protect Murray our recievers will be open and there is no DB in the country that can stop AJ. Hes had double coverage all year and no one has stopped him but his own mistake.

Well another injury excuse brewing. Why didn’t CMR don the pads on Monday ? Now another wasted practice with walk through because of rain. Unbelievable ! This doesnt bode too well for the dawgs. Im prepared for the gators run 18 out of 21 . Guess the dawgs will need some schick razors by Saturday night.

Maybe this is just a ploy to throw FL off. Ealey’s knee is probably fine. Well let’s hope that is what it is. If he was allowed to return during the KY game I bet he has sat out this week to let the soreness subside. The medical staff there would never allow him to get on the field if they even had a hint he may have a MCL injury.

hey ted striker:

we fans got the water hoses on the field after the auburn game in the
mid 1980’s when it was like 30 degrees (and night) outside. i was only
a kid and i remember buying a t-shirt days afterward that read:
“if u can’t beat ‘em, hose ‘em!”

Ealey’s gonna be fine.

But King is the better blocker, more disciplined player.

He’s gonna have a big game, if Bobo calls the game correctly.

On defense, let Houston and Dent run to the QB all afternoon.

Ealey will be fine by gametime. It will be nice to have Caleb back as his blocking skills will be needed to slow down the Gator blitzes…………One thing Bulldog Nation can be confident of is Coach Mark Richt, Coach Bobo, and Coach Todd Grantham has had this game in the back of their minds for sometime now, look for the finest planned attack you have seen from the BULLDOGS in a very long time…………and that is………on offense….attack…attack….attack………and on defense…..attack and destroy…..attack and destroy…..attack and destroy………GO DOGS !!!!…………………GATA !!!!!!!!

Something is just wrong with Georgia’s strength, and conditioning coach, and whoever is evaluating injuries. It seems like everytime someone gets a bump, bruise, or sprain, Richt is like “Oh he’ll be fine and ready to play Saturday.” Then, the next day, the player still isn’t getting much better, and by game day they don’t play.

I understand injuries like Ealey’s can get better day by day, but this seems to happen a lot with Georgia’s players. When King was hurt, they were all saying he would play, even up to game day, but then he never played a down.

[...] But Tim Tucker of the AJC reports that Ealey’s knee could keep him out of starting lineup. [...]

And they went full pads and hitting on Tuesday. Odd that you state how sick you are of “ploys”, but bemoan that they didn’t switch that to Monday as they did that ONE time in 10 years as a ploy.

You can already tell the mentality of this team has changed- much different than the last 3 games. All of a sudden Ealey is hurt and possibly cant play…blah..blah..blah. I am a die hard Dawg fan but if I didnt know better these guys and coaches are AFRAID of playing UF. They always talk about why they cant win this game instead of why they can. Thank God we have an AD now that wont listen to any of the STUPID excuses about we have to travel furthr than they do….its hot down there and UF is used to it. This team needs to man up and go play football.
