Sprained MCL limits Ealey in practice; says he’ll play vs. Gators

ATHENS – Georgia tailback Washaun Ealey missed parts of Tuesday’s practice because of a minor knee injury but said he will play Saturday against Florida.

Ealey said the injury, suffered in the fourth quarter of last week’s victory at Kentucky, was diagnosed as a mild sprain of the medial collateral ligament (MCL) in his right knee.

“It’s really nothing,” Ealey said. “Basically, just a bruise.”

Although held out of some drills Tuesday, including the portion of practice when the No. 1 offense went against the No. 1 defense, Ealey participated when the offense worked against the scout-team defense, which was simulating Florida’s defense.

“It’s 100 percent,” Ealey said later. “I’ve been running on it. Just trying to get it from being stiff. Just trying to get it back to strength.”

“He’s going to be good to go,” offensive coordinator Mike Bobo said of Ealey. “It’s think it’s more a precautionary measure. [The knee] got a little stiff after the [Kentucky] game. He carried it 28 times, and it got a little sore on him, like anybody’s does when they carry it 28 times.”

Ealey ran 157 yards and a UGA-record five touchdowns in the game. He left the game briefly midway through the fourth quarter because of the knee.

“When it first happened, I was [afraid the injury was worse], but after I rolled around a couple of times and the pain was kind of settling down, I knew it wasn’t very bad,” he said.

He returned to the game to make his longest run of the night, a 41-yarder.

Ealey figures to get fewer carries against Florida because fellow tailback Caleb King will return from a two-game suspension. King was suspended by coach Mark Richt after being arrested for failing to appear at a court date regarding a speeding ticket.

“Caleb is rested up,” Bobo said, “and I think he’s itching to get back out there and pick up where he left off.”

King started in the last game before his suspension, but Ealey posted back-to-back 100-plus-yard games in King’s absence. Richt said Tuesday that he expects King and Ealey to share the carries against Florida. Richt said he doesn’t know which one will start.

Start Ealey. King should come in reserve. If we can get the running game going, I’d say shoot for a ratio of 2:1 in carries.

I think this game is a must win for Richt. If we can’t put together a game plan to beat Florida while they are this bad, then what in the hell are we going to do when they are good as usual? I am tired of UGA going to Jacksonville every year and bending over and taking it straight the @ss from UF. They need to go out there and get over the mental factors and intimidation of the Gators. I am 23 years old so younger UGA fans as myself don’t remember UGA ever owning Florida. We were raised watching Steve Spurrier start an annual @sswhipping fest in Jacksonville of UGA. Lets turn this thing around UGA, we need to start winning this game on an consecutive basis.

Dawg stuck in Auburn. I’d get out of town before Nov 13th. I wouldn’t dare try and talk trash either if I were you. The fact we’ve beat them 4 years in a row doesn’t guarantee a 5th, they were under a first year coach last year and the others were a team in decline. I think people say Cam Newton won’t run on us… okay, puff puff pass. Cam can not only run on you but he can hand the ball off to the #1 RB recruit in the nation and/or pass it which he is very accurate with. If we couldn’t stop KU from converting 3rd downs how will we stop Auburn? If because we put 15 players on the field and actually stop their run, they’ll pass until they set the run back up. And this is a team gunning for a Heisman + NC, in that order. The only possible way to beat them is if they have a KU implosion in their own redzone which they’ve done earlier in the season but they still won the games. They just keep winning against teams that beat us.

Like I said, we had our fun but get the heck out of town and don’t talk trash.

Several things I can’t seem to figure out.
1.Why aren’t the bugs calling for PJ to be fired? His team just plain sucks.
2.Why aren’t the Texas fans calling for Mac Brown to be fired and take that no good Muschamp guy with him?
3. Why are Bosie State and TCU ranked? If they play each other in a bowl game again this year it will be two years running that neither have played anyone. I thought BS did with VaTech at the first of the year but then James Madison beat them, sooooooo?
4. Why did who allow the conferences that BS and TCU play in be BCS, or what ever they call it now, conferences?
5. If a team from the SEC East wins the conference championship game, will they get to play for the MNC with 2 or 3 lossses?
6. Is the SEC down this year in quality or is there just more parody? I realize AL might be down a little from perfection as well as UF, but don’t you believe that one reason for all of the chaos is that the other teams have become a notch or two better like AU, Arkansas, SC and KY?

UGA AD, Greg McGarity wil be watching this game closely. He is a UGA alum, former UGA athlete, and took a pay check form the Gators for 18 years as the # 2 man under Florida’s AD Foley. He knows how to win at the very highest levels of the NCAA and Florida IS a fine academic school too.

McGarity will want to fathom why UGA apparently does get good players, as does Florida but lately ( we ) cannot compete with em. His entire run as #2 AD man at Florida was in watching his alma mater LOSE and now his employer, get blown out over and over by the Gators. NOW? He wants to know why and how to END it. THAT will be AD McGarity’s job on Saturday.

It is NOW that Richt will be under the gun. Auburn is coming up with a no name coach that has taken them to great heights in only 1.5 years. GT too will be a guage. GT will need to be a blown out for McGarity to even consider keeping CMR and his staff intact …………..If ………………IF Florida and Auburn hammer UGA.

Sorry georgiadawg70. The worst game I have ever been to was spurrier crushing us in Athens. For some reason the loss does not sting as bad after the party in Jacksonville. Frankly I prefer to be in Jacksonville where I am welcome rather than in athens where the cops and school president apparently don’t want us to be.

Last game I watched a well dressed 60 year old gentleman get yelled at by an athens cop for stepping out of the front of a crowded restaurant to answer his phone with a drink in his hand. He was not drunk and disorderly. He was a little stunned by the punk cope behavior, wich made the cop year more because the man was convinced he must be yelling at someone else. When the cop pointed and showed his cuffs he put his hands up finally realizing he was the one the cop was yelling at. Everyone around was stunned by the behavior except the students who are used to these jerks with badges.

This is a kid who 2 weeks ago couldn’t get into the game because he wasn’t holding up his end of the bargain, and now you want him to be told that he no longer has to compete for the job, it’s his till he decides he differently? Don’t even worry about proving yourself in practise this week. Lastly I trust the actual staff to evaluate if 28 carries is the proper way to use or ruin the kids knee.

Make no mistake, Mark Richt is still under the gun. This is the first very big challenge he has to show that he can turn the cycle of this program. Florida is in his head and he absolutely must prove he can overcome the mental challenges he allows his teams to be blocked by.

THis game will go a long way to determining how the supporters and administrators of this program perceive the job he is doing.

What teams in the nation would have lost to those three??? I dare say even Georgia Tech would beat those three teams. WOW we beat three weaklings!!! I am glad we won and pray we beat Florida. Lose to them this year when they look even more pathetic than us and we may never beat them again! Fact is we are still undercoached but having three weak teams in a row has made the average fan think everything is all right. Just get it done on the field guys. This is the best chance we will see to beat down Urban and UF
This is bigger than any bowl game we can expect this season so just get out there and nail it already. Get Mean. Get Nasty. UF is long overdue for a beat down from UGA. No gimmicks just beat them like they were messin with your sister.

Georgia traditionaly does not beat UT and UF in the same season. This year will not change , even when UT and UF are the worst they have been in years Uga will not be able to accompolish this task even now. A loss on Saturday should put these “Homers” back in the crib crying about play calling and coaching. UF 35 – 13

“Georgia traditionaly does not beat UT and UF in the same season.”

Strange tradition. Anyway, Georgia hasn’t beaten Florida and Auburn in the same season since 1983. Maybe it has something to do with the Mayan prophecy. If Georgia pulls off the trifecta, does it portend the end of the world?

Coach Richt should have played the freshman running back Malcombe to get some good experience when the Bulldogs were playing the likes of Tennessee, Vanderbilt, and Kentucky. Now, that Ealey is banged up after carrying the load for the last 3 games, the Dogs are going to be short handed should Ealey go down again. King, Thomas, and Munz will need additional help. Malcombe is a good runner and should provide that extra help the Dogs will need against florida and Auburn. If the talent is there, then get it on the field, Coach. We do not need to sit another Knowshon Moreno or Aaron Murray for one year. Go Dogs!!!

Honestly I think Georgia is the better team this year (usually Florida is) and I think the only way they lose is if they can’t run the ball and have to force the pass. Or if they commit a bunch of personal fouls like they tend to do in some games. You don’t win when you commit a ton of penalties.

Shhhhhhhhhh, shhhhhhhhh, he becomes so distraught when a SEC team whups him ……………shh.

IN 2011 …………… U of Florida will have an all new coaching staff. CUM does not have it in him to rebuild from what he created ………… He is emotional toast and just could not quite pull the trigger last December on his retirement. He will come to grips with that around Christmas 2010 and bowl season.

What are u talking about? UK beat South Carolina, who beat us and beat Alabama (defending champs and #1 team)…UT, although not the best team they’ve had, did take LSU (a 1 loss team, undefeated at the time) to the final whistle….so to call them weaklings, I believe ur misinformed about this season…we cant dwell on history but the current year we are in….
and to MEL….send the thugs packing? really? they were arrested for minor traffic violations and AJ wasnt arrested at all….u must be a clown b/c that was a clown statement…ur a thug too then b/c of the traffic ticket you got

Yo, if Washaun has been having 100+ yard games since Caleb Knucklehead King decided to get on the wrong side of the law, then why are our brilliant coaches telling everyone that Ealey and King will split the running duties? Is this dumb or what? If you’ve got something good going, keep it going as long as it works. King needs to warm the bench until Washaun cools off…

Dr. phil, above. The one who has the definitive and informed opinion of DAWG fans. We who were so unhappy with Coach’s Richt’s coaching staff last year and, yes, we did strongly demand a change in DC, special teams and LBC. These men did not make necessary adjustments because of their apparent stubbornness to change their coaching philosophy in their respective areas even though their methods were obviously not working. Coach Richt waited about two years too long in most of our minds. But, he did make a change and it will take some time for our new coaches/players to operate at a high level but I do see improvement and that is encouraging. The case is still out on Coach Bobo. He needs to improve considerably in his choice of plays. We have been much too predictable under his leadership. But, phil we could have them same coaches as last year and out DBs playing off their men 7-8 yards. That won’t cut it in the SEC. Adjust, or leave…one way or the other.

Lets Pay Coach Meyer back. Coach Mark Richt, run the numbers up on Coach Meyer and the Gators this weekend. Return them the favor as to what they did to the Dawgs last year. Give them a dose of their own medicine. Ealey should remember what they did to him last year as well. Ealey need to rush for 200 yards and King should also rush for over 100 yards as well. Score at least 42 points on them, and the Dawgs defense don’t allow Gators into the end-zone the entire game. Shut them out.

Run the points up Coach Mark Richt, leave no doubt.
