Georgia piled up 547 yards and 43 points against Vanderbilt on Saturday, and two UGA players were honored today by the SEC for their parts in the rout.
Quarterback Aaron Murray was named the SEC Freshman of the Week for the second consecutive week, and center Ben Jones was named the SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week for the first time since 2008.
Murray, a redshirt freshman, had a season-high 287 yards passing (15-for-24, two touchdowns, no interceptions) and a season-high 190.4 passing efficiency rating in the victory over Vandy. For the season, Murray’s pass efficiency mark of 157.2 ranks No. 18 in the nation –- and No. 1 among freshmen. Murray has thrown 12 touchdown passes and just three interceptions.
Jones, a junior, received the SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week honor after grading out at 83 percent overall, including 100 percent on pass plays, against Vanderbilt. He had a team-high 20 knockdown blocks, according to UGA statistics. Georgia allowed no sacks of Murray in the game and had a 37:15-22:45 advantage in time of possession.

QUESTION? Mr. Tucker or anyone else that may know the answer to my question: If uga finishes with the best record in the SEC East, will they be eligible to play in the SEC Championship game? Thank you.
Thats the way it works my friend, the team with the best record in the SEC EAST plays the team with the best record in the SEC WEST.

But UGA has to win out the rest of their SEC games (UK,FLA,AU) and SC has to loose 2 of their remaining (LSU TENN VANDY ARK)for ust to have the bese SEC East record.

Murray is a winner! The good thing is I expect we will have him through his senior year because he isn’t your prototypical NFL QB (size, Stafford arm) – he will have to prove himself for four years to get into the NFL. Wonder if Lemay will come to UGA since he said he might change his mind depending on the coaching situation or how well Murray does.

Didn’t Florida want Murray real bad? I bet they wish they had him now but, after watching the play calling that their O/C calls it would be a waste of talent. You can bet they will have a new O/C next year.

bigdawg8, you may be right but, he could end up reminding a lot of NFL teams of Drew Brees. Look how that has turned out in New Orleans. You may have some scouts that think he is worth a first round selection in spite of his size.

Good grief, we played Vandy. Why don’t all of you jaw flappers wait til we beat somebody. The Dawgs are extremely average, nothing more. I think Murray is improving but good grief, we are not beating anyone of quality as far as I can tell. Auburn will maul the Dawgs.

Auburn has won 3 close games with the super effort of Cam Newton but their defense sux big time. If Cam gets hurt they will go in the tank. Georgia will score on them but I don’t know if they can stop Cam’s running up the middle which is what S.C. did to Georgia. Kentucky is very good on offense and not bad on defense. UGA will have to control the game by running the ball and short passes. Kentucky is very hard to stop with their controlled offense. Miss State has shown that they have a pretty good defense and it was no fluke that they have a winning record.

“Murray will be like just another Kyle Parker @ Clempson. Good Freshman year and a lousy Sophomore year when opposing teams adjust.”
Adjust to what? Him throwing the ball to open receivers? So they need a year to adjust to him having all those sneaky pass routes that they have never seen, and only works for Aaron Murray?
NEWS flash opposing teams: The guy lined up on the end..he is going to run down the field and at some point turn to catch a ball thrown his way. Please see film on UGA from last 9 years. You are welcome.

MUCH more likely that Aaron Murray will be the one to adjust to opposing defenses next year, than they will to him.

When it says “Top freshman in the NATION” that says something. All you ankle biters and complainers that insist on downplaying everything about UGA, go cheer for Yech…oops….Florida….er…..anybody else for that matter. We won’t miss you or your negativism. But expect the boot when you try and crawl on the bandwagon when UGA turns the corner. Oh, I know you’re response “Hey, I was with y’all all along!” Shaddup, sit down and know your role…..

Of course it will ne “Oh, Florida is down this year”, then “Auburn was over-rated anyway.” and finally “Oh, we beat Tech every year.” At the end it will be “Well, why didn’t we play like this from the beginning?” It’s because we have a NEW Defensive coordinator, NEW scheme and NEW QB. It takes time to get your assignments right all the time. Again, Shaddup, sit down and know your role…..

Flor-RI-duh, I wonder how many QB’s go through the year without interceptions being dropped and near misses? The answer is NONE! It happens to every team. Pick some other miniscule, meaningless statistic to show your idiocy….

I can’t believe all the people that in spite of stats, professional opinion and everything else, won’t give Murray his due. I guess you won’t be satisfied until he has 99% completion rate, throws for 37 touchdowns and 1 interception. Of course, you WILL bring up the interception, won’t you?

We in Atlanta do this every time, a person has a good performance and we start attaching titles or position such as best, greatest, No.1, and when they don’t live up to the lofty expectations we write all the negatives about them. I’d say give the young man a chance to grow without the debate as to whether he is the greatest freshman in college. How does anyone know this to be true, do you see all the Freshmen at that position, do you see all the games?.
Last year some say The Falcons had the best Back up Quarterback in the NFL, was that true after the end of last season and is that still the case?
It was often times said that Jason Heyward was the best Rookie in Baseball was that true?
It was said that the Braves had the best starting Rotation and the best Bullpen in Baseball was that true.
I guess next year it will be said that Freeman is the best Rookie in Baseball and the best defensively at 1st Base.
Some folks never learn.

For all you wankers who keep bringing up that our victories against lesser opponents… in case you haven’t figured out yet, a Win is a Win. In a sport where every regular season outing has the same importance as a playoff game, UGA is doing what it has to do.

Murray’s still making some inexplicably dumb throws, triple coverage to Durham, getting AJ Green clocked, etc. But the kid’s showing some leadership abilities, just a little, over last 2 games, stepped up in 1st quarter to get team on a roll.
Still need for his td to int ratio to get better. Still not playing well on 3rd down. Still not getting the ball to his tight ends enough.
MURRAY IS FORCING THE BALL TO AJ, HE’S GONNA GET BURNED FOR THAT SOON.

Well deserved congrats to Murray and Jones and to all the players and coaches who have hung together through all this adversity. Congrats to the few loyal Ga fans who stuck with the team and coaches and kept the faith. We certainly still have a long way to go but we’ll get there. I’ve been a Dawg fan since 1966 but some of the Ga fans have embarrassed me this year with their calls for the Coaches heads. Coach Richt is a winner, an excellent leader for young men, and has integrity.

I hate to dig up the past but I feel that I must when it comes to Murray. Stafford recieved so much attention that, while being a life long dawg fan, I felt was undeserved. Stafford was even said to be better than David Greene, who any UGA fan that watched Greene knows is not even close to the truth. However, Murray does remind me of Greene. While Stafford was a “gun slinger” QB both Greene and Murray are field generals who know how to win even when they are not at the top of their game. Let us not forget Stafford had Moreno and A.J. Green and he only beat FL once. Greene had to deal with getting into a rhythm and then be taken out for D.J. Shockley. I feel we once again have a true leader at QB and hope Murray doesn’t take an early out and leave for the NFL.

It is going to be nice to watch Murray’s development. The whole offense can be built around his skill set. Love to see him run some option and QB draws. I just think he is the real deal, a gamer, a winner. If the defense keeps getting better through next season, this team can be great. Murray reminds me of Drew Brees with a little Doug Flutie thrown in.
