ATHENS – Despite Georgia’s 1-4 record, Vegas oddsmakers have the Bulldogs as a heavy favorite over Tennessee on Saturday in Sanford Stadium. One line had the Dogs as a 13-point favorite earlier this week.
“We’re a 13-point favorite?” coach Mark Richt replied, incredulously, when I brought that up. “Wow! Hope they’re right. Are you kidding me? I don’t look at those things, I really don’t, but wow.”
By Tuesday afternoon, Georgia had dropped to a 12-point favorite.
Tennessee was a 16-point underdog to LSU last week but lost by just two points on the final play of the game.
The Vols, like the Bulldogs, are seeking their first SEC victory of the season. Tennessee is 2-3 overall, 0-2 in the conference. This is the first Georgia-Tennessee game since 1906 that both teams enter with a losing record.

I’m not sure if you realized this but Georgia was down 2pts at that point. A fieldgoal, as it turns out, is worth 3pts. They were going for the win moron.

13 points is too much, we can’t beat Tennessee when we’re loaded. But I do think we win this game by a field goal or less. They are equally as bas as we are and Richt always finds a way to salvage the season enough from being run out of Athens. So this may be the game that saves his neck once again.
If you’re a betting man, take the points!

Look at CMR’s response – “I hope there right” – wft kind of attitude is that – no wonder the Dawgs never are ready to play and just go through the motions.
He should have said – “Only 14 point” – I guarantee you we will beat them by more than the odds makers have it –
See that is the problem with GA – even the coach has no confidence in his team and the team sees this

You may say- 13 is my lucky number. That doesn’t help. The “Georgia Jinx” is real. Save your money and don’t bet on Georgia. I’ve stated how Georgia can overcome the jinx. Will you hear?

I just checked the line and it’s 11 points. Obama probably put a couple of trillions on Tennessee and brought the line down. 13 was way too much. Probably be down to 1 or 2 by game time.

First, this is insane there is no way that we are favored by 13, I would expect Georgia to be favored by 1 means its a toss up! Second it was foolish of Bobo to run the ball like that we were indeed in the range of long field goal against Colorado and that is not a given so we should have been more aggressive like what Arkansas did to us in the last minute. why should you run the ball up the middle like that especially when you know the opposing team expecting it and for the last 3 games this play was a disaster! no blocking what soever, which means the play will either end with negative or no gain. Bobo should be kicked off the team and Richt should handle the play calling. enough with this crap!

Congrats UGA, you also join Clemson as one of those Southern schools that won a fluky title in the early 80’s, creating a ginormous base of retard fans who still expect another one nearly three decades after the fact. Those are fitting characteristics for a football program whose most distinguishing feature is the fact that they have a freaking hedge. Oooh, look everyone! Topiary in the stadium! Isn’t that cool?

Whie I agree that Bobo is an idiot, there was nothing wrong with that play call. All you’re trying to do is get a few yards closer, run the clock and kick the field goal to win the game. Throwing would have been too risky. You don’t expect a fumble on simple running play.

First off,
Nobody should be talking about point spreads until Thursday at the earliest! There is just too much that can happen between now and Saturday( injuries, weather, suspensions, media perception etc.) that can affect the outcome of a game one way or another. So its dumb to make predictions right now.
Second, that spread will go down by gametime, probably to 11.5.
Third, you got to consider the current state of each team. UGA while 1-4, is clearly a different team with AJ Green in the lineup. While they still lost to Colorado, I don’t think this team is devasted by the loss. On the contrary, with their best player back in the lineup, I think these guys are looking to get off the snide. And I think this offense will explode eventually seeing that Murray is looking for a signature win and AJ is looking for redemption. With that being said, this defense is just bad! They actually try, but they are just bad! So the offense will have to flow through Murray which is a tough position for this team to be in since he’s still learning.
For Tennessee, I actually think they have some talent, but its VERY Raw. They played LSU tough, which is a VERY underachieving 5-0 team. This team, like UGA, has yet to win an SEC game. And the way they lost last week was a heartbreaker. College kids tend to have a tough time overcoming a tough loss and usually play like crap the next week, like what happened with UGA after they lost to Arkansas and then lost again to MSU in a lackluster effort. The Vols have a baby football team and are basically learning how to win all over again. They have lost to some tough competition, with all 3 of their losses coming to ranked teams. However, they have a chance because UGA defense is so bad! Unfortunately for them, their defense is equally horrible!
So right now, I’m leaning towards the Dawgs. But again, a LOT can happen between now and kickoff, so we’ll have to wait and see.

I think people are misinterpreting what a “line” is – it doesn’t (necessarily) mean that some “expert” (or panel) EXPECTS y’all to win by 13, they’re just trying to balance their bets & @ that point in time that’s what it took to get actual gamblers to put $ on Tennessee side of scale. it’s like stock quotes – price of last trade tells you next to nothing about overall value of a company, just what someone had to offer/bid to fill an order at that instant in time. all that said, I wouldn’t pretend to know who’s going to win this game – I think dawgs’ backs are more against the wall & they’re @ home so I’d probably go w/them but this game is just as likely to be a 21+ blowout in either direction as it is to be decided by a fumble and/or penalty on a 2-pt conversion in the 2nd OT. bottom line, betting on this game is a roulette wheel – no telling where the ball will land… (full disclosure – 2nd generation GT season tix holder since ‘99)

I’ll take UT to cover those points any day of the week. Vegas does make mistakes every now and then. Take 2 weeks ago when NC State were +8 pt. road dogs to a sucky GA Tech team. That was easy money and then last week Iowa only being a -7 pt. home favorite to Penn St. So chalk this one up as UT covering those points as well.

That line should come down as money pores in on Tennessee. If Tennessee had the right number of men on the field for the last play against LSU and 3-2, would Georgia even be favored? That’s a strange line. I think it’s a pick ‘em game.

This weeks game will have one team playing “lights out” and the other will play like their heads are stuck in the “hedges”. I am amazed at the “loyal” Dawg fans coming on these boards and not giving their team a chance. If you line them up man to man UGA has better talent all over the field. The question this week is which coaching staff handles their team better. My money is on TN and Dooley. I think he will have UT prepared to play above their talent and experience (just like last week) and will play smash mouth football. UT by 17

I am so sick of Bobo running Ealey and others between the tackles for 1-2 yards. He does it over and over at the worst times. The play never works. King may get 2-3 yards. Sweeping Ealey is much more effective. He is not a big bruiser of a running back but has moves in the open field. Watch Sat and see if I am right.

@BamaDave – “icedawg, Georgia Tech used to be in the SEC, but Bobby Dodd abandoned ship because Bear Bryant was wearing him out every time they played. Not to mention getting every player that Tech went after. Vandy would be a super-power in the ACC and win the conference every single year.”
I don’t know what that has to do with this blog, but here is the record of Bryant vs. Dodd in the 6 years they played in the SEC, 3 games decided by 2 points or less. The year that Bryant didn’t “wear out’ Ga. Tech Joe Namath threw 4 INTs, including one from Ga. Tech’s 14 yard line in the final minute. It cost Alabama the 1962 poll national championship, their 1st loss in 27 games.
1958 Alabama, 17-8
1959 Alabama, 9-7
1960 Alabama, 16-15
1961 Alabama, 10-0
1962 Ga. Tech, 7-6
1963 Alabama, 27-11

I know Les Miles coaches like an idiot but Tenn. really played well against LSU. They played hard like they wanted to win. I just don’t see a 12 point spread with UGA winning. We play like we don’t want to win-we have zero enthusiasm. I really think there is a better chance “no one” on the UGA team “gets arrested” than we have at winning Saturday-Hope I am wrong!!! But I don’t think so.

I think the people that are calling for Mark Richt to be fired are short sighted and like so many people in the world, just extremely impatient. There are many examples of coaches that struggle for a couple of years or even a decade, only to go on to become a coaching icon. He has earned a chance to turn things around even if that take 2-3 years. Has all remnamts of loyalty vanished from the college football fanbase? Richt is a good man and he didn’t just forget how to coach all of a sudden. There may be some changes that need to be made. For instance, it’s difficult for a young man to be an OC if he has family. The children are small and the hours coaching football especially at a big program like UGA are extremely long. You need someone older at OC. However, Bobo is smart and already becoming experienced. Give him a few more years and we will probably have the best OC around.

Sad; we are talking about 2 programs that for years were the gold standard in the SEC. Unfortunately, everyone thinks you have to recruit from the available THUGS in order to field a team. Both programs need to get a grip. Check out Boise State: no thugs and a winning program. P.S. Their headcoach runs the offense. Too many Thugs and too many coaches who don’t know their business= what we have right now. I’d rather see a loosing season than to glorify garbage.
