UGA player: Game-deciding fumble ‘felt like death to me’

(Click here for Mark Richt’s post-game comments.)

BOULDER, Colo. – What Georgia players had to say after their latest loss, 29-27 to Colorado here Saturday night:

Wide receiver A.J. Green on being 1-4: “It’s tough. I’ve never been 1-4 in my life. We’re going to stay together, and we’re going to keep fighting.”

Green on why he left the game in the third quarter: “I was just cramping. A lot of cramping.”

Quarterback Aaron Murray on Caleb King’s fumble in final two minutes: “I don’t know where the guy [defender] came from. I handed the ball off, and it just came out. That’s pretty much how it happened. You can’t blame Caleb King for that. It just happens sometimes. You have to make sure you pick that guy up and he comes out and has a great week at practice.”

Murry on Green’s leaping, one-handed touchdown catch in the second quarter: “That was unbelievable. No other receiver in the nation can make that catch. That was special right there. To go up and catch it with one arm, and bring it down with only one arm, it’s pretty unbelievable.”

Defensive end Demarcus Dobbs on being 1-4: “There’s going to be frustration. We’re Georgia. We never expect ourselves to get four losses. Or lose to the teams we have lost to. We just have to push ahead, and we cannot give up on each other. All we have is each other. We have to watch film, keep grinding and finish the season out, hopefully on a high note.”

Dobbs on the mentality in the locker room: “We just lost a game. Everyone is pretty much down; we thought we were going to come in and ruin their party and get a victory. We thought we were a better team. We didn’t represent Georgia well. We didn’t represent the SEC well. Only people we have to blame are ourselves. We need to watch film, see what we need to correct and make those adjustments, and stick together. We have to be accountable for each other and not give up on the season.”

Dobbs on the fumble on the final drive: “I thought it was a shoo-in; that’s how comfortable I was [about winning the game]. I put my helmet down. I was ready to run on the field and celebrate. But it didn’t happen that way. We made a fatal mistake, and that type of stuff needs to be corrected. We cannot turn the ball over at the end of the game. It felt like death to me. We have to keep grinding and support each other.”

– From transcript provided by Colorado of post-game player interviews.

These are the comments we used to hear from Georgia’s opponents…..will be a long airplane ride back…key mistakes, key penalties, bad special team play, poor tackling and execution….same issues for 3 years now….all signs of poor coaching. I think CMR has no idea where or when it started going downhill and no idea how to fix it because he doesn’t know what’s wrong…can’t correct the course when you don’t know how you got off course…

The reason they had to pay Grantham so much was because if he is made interim he will be compensated. He even looks like Jim Donnan. FYI Mark Richt makes 63,000 taxpayer bucks every week.

Even I thought UGA would come out and put a spanking on Colorado. This was an embarrassing loss for the SEC and even worse loss for a program that from top to bottom is in total disarray.

We heard all day from the talking heads how Mark Richt had “earned” the right to come back next year, but after this loss who in their right mind thinks this program is going to turn it around.

Every recruit that UGA wanted was at the Alabama and Florida game tonight and if you think those guys are seriously now considering Georgia you need to refill your medication or some booster has his hand in that recruits pocket.

UGA is now embarrassing the SEC, before it was just the State of Georgia.

And yes, all the Georgia players that are reading this: You are the worst team in two generations. You guys don’t what it’s like to work hard, and your effort on field shows how little you’ve experienced hard work. To the Seniors, pathetic. Don’t go around the rest of your life bragging about having played football at Georgia because you are really not a Georgia football player. Kbatuc, I agree. I thought he was trying to lateral back to Murray too. I was real surprised to hear Richt say on the post game that it was just a hand off. Looked weird. The way we were moving on that drive a flea flicker would not have been a great call, but we’ve called some crazy stuff before. Even if it would have worked and we got a td, it would left lots of time for them and our defense doesn’t come up big when it needs to.

First time since 1990 to lose 4 straight. The problem is this: we may not be finished losing yet. This could go on a while. Sadly, Richt himself said it could get worse. What leadership! Way to plant that negative idea and now lead toward it’s fulfillment! Unacceptable. CMR’s only chance to rebuild next year: 1. Win some games toward the end of the season. 2. Clean house of all coaches not doing the job – mostly offensive and recruiting. Then maybe we rebuild next year. Maybe. At the moment we need to scratch our way back to mediocrity!

Love Richt, but this is going to be difficult to defend. Good guy, but the lack of discipline on and off the field again bites Georgia in the butt. If you want to be like the big boys (Florida, Alabama, et. al), then look at what the big boys do…and don’t do. They don’t leave a guy out there to make not one, not two, but three personal foul penalties. They don’t fumble trying to be cute when setting up to kick the winning field goal. They don’t get friggin’ dominated on both sides of the line of scrimmage. They flat out don’t lose in Starkville or Boulder.

What has happened to this program? What happened to the strength and conditioning advantage Georgia enjoyed? Is it time for Van Halanger to go, or is it too late for all of them?

By the way, Techies: before you get crazy…30-24.

We have been spoiled with the talent of a Matthew Stafford and Knowshon Moreno and allowed our once dominate defense to become lackluster and soft year after year. Which is fine i guess but we don’t have those type of players anymore. Call me crazy but our players really don’t seem in top physical shape compared to some other top tier schools. We look like we took the spring off and it’s obvious we did away with the two a days. Georgia needs to get off their high horse and start playing with a purpose. And yes they represented the SEC horribly and you almost get the feeling like these players think they should win by just putting on the jersey… Can someone say discipline, where is it? These players look lost.

What gets me the most is that there seems to be no sense of urgency by the coaching staff. Nothing has changed since the lost to South Carolina. The same bad play calling for the fourth week in a row. The same blown coverage assignments that lead to touchdowns. There have been three crucial fumbles that have cost us three crucial games, but CMR is singing the same song. As much as I hate to say it and as much as CMR has done for UGA football, his heart does not seem to be in the game any more. We could possibly be a 2 win team this year.

Couple of things: I would like to see the time of position of AJ on the field and the producitvity versus the time on the field that he was not.

My point; AJ obviously makes more of a difference than originally thought. The offense was jekyl and hyde when he was there v.s. not there.

We should not be that dependent on one person. Bama loses their heisman winning RB and they say “no problem”. The offense was inept without him on the field. Why???

I have beat the Dawgs up for 4 straight weeks, but this is one week that I won’t pile on. For the first time this year, they actually looked like a team worthy of its SEC status. But at the end of the day, the attitudes and discipline problems always come back to bite you. The foolish roughing the kicker play along with a few more stupid penalties cost UGA this game. Don’t look now, but Tennessee is not a gimmee next week, especially after they just lost that fluke game up at LSU. I really wouldn’t want to play them before having a bye. DAWGS…WELCOME TO THE SEC!

AJ’s second TD was great. He kicked in that extra step to catch up to ball. However, it was a very predictable from Bobo. Got the defensive stop. Got a big punt return. Bobo goes for the big play on 1st down from the 40 every time in that situation. My complaint is that when he misses, the drive consistenly stalls our. What are we playing for – another low tier bowl game? Better to admit the year is a goner and work on doing somes serious improvement on our play calling and player development. We are already playing for “next year”…well run programs don’t fall off the cliff like this – not with our recruiting, money, facilities and fan base….8 – 5 is a bad year with all that we have to work with….we are now heading for 2 – 10…..I have never been down on CMR but it looks like somehow, somewhere he has lost control of this program. Man never thought in a million years I’d say this but under slick Willie M. we beat teams like this. He just couldn’t beat Gators. CMR looks clueless on the sidelines. BObo doesn’t have a clue. thought CTG was the answer and after he crawled up one side and down the other of that defensive player that made a mistake in the first game i thought of BVG didn’t take long for me to realize it was only wishful thinking on my part. Heard CMR got onto him said that isn’t the way things are done here at GA. Hell someone needs to bring in some fire. Hate to say it but things in Athens need to be blown up and start from the ground up. We can’t be any worse off. Worst mistake CMR made of his entire career was giving Blow BO offensive coord. Hell i know these recruits don’t want to come to the new Vanderbilt of the SEC. We are not tough we get pushed around like a bunch of candy A$$es. Offensive line was suppose to be great, we can’t open any holes for a dam mouse to get in. We as DAWG fans let things go unnoticed with CMR because we won games here and there, but now that over sight has come home to roost. Hope he can find him and blow Bo a job somewhere else. I know CR has 91 wins only 7th coach in history to do so, but it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out Blow Bo suckssssssssss.

1-4, 9-9 in the last 18 games: It’s simple really, Mark Richt has to go!

Someone tell me why we did not continue to put the ball in our best player’s hands. Green didnt get thrown to at all on the last drive. This team cannot line up and run when they know it is coming. On top of that, the RBs fumble in the crunch. So explain to me why we went back to it at a time when we are trying to win the ballgame? Even if he doesnt fumble, the play was blown up for a big loss. The announcers just got done saying that UGA got their two best offensive weapons back…Chapas and Green. Why were we not riding them into the end zone?

When Alabama needs a play…they go to Ingram. When the Falcons needed a play against the Saints they went to Gonzales. Good teams that WIN do that. When Bobo needs a play, he goes to the same guys that continue to not get the job done when it counts.

Mike Bobo continues to show an inability to analyze what plays work and continue to exploit them. If Mark Richt cannot recognize this and find someone who can, he will be on a serious hot seat.

Hey Rob

Who are we going to beat in order to have 3 win this year. Maybe 1 more because we play a 1aa team in nov.. Have we ever had a season where we didn’t beat a D1 school?

This is worst then any Ray Goof Team. It’s hard to believe how far we have fallen.I’m afraid we are now the worst team in the SEC. We will now become everyone’s homecoming game.

But lets be serious–our offensive line & defensive line are terrible & if we let every team we play push us around like rag dolls we will lose the rest of our games.I’m tried of everyone saying its the coaches fault for not coaching up our so called 4&5 star players. From what I have seen we have 1 five star player & everyone knows who that is(AJ) & a bunch of 1&2 star players & you can only do so much with that type of talent.Since our talent level is going down maybe CMR needs to give his players the WONDERLIC TEST & that would give him an idea of which players have the football smarts to play college football & maybe just maybe we might be able to coach those players up.

RECRUIT BETTER & WE WILL WIN & THAT’S ALL I HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THAT

REAL fans want to see this turned around, and realize there is no excitement around this program anymore and Richt seems to have lost his desire for the game. There are hundreds of better choices out there than Sabans puppet. Coach Richt should get one more year to turn it around but only if Bobo and his cronies are replaced. Coach Richt and Georgia were successful when he ran the offense and good coaches such as Van gorder were working with him. Jim Harbaugh is the Coach we want if CMR doesn’t work out. As the great Marvin Gaye used to sing “What’s Going On?’”. WE LOST to a team that is 90th in the country (Div 1A) in Passing Yards, 68th in Rushing, 96th in Points For, and 59th in Points Against, and LOST TO CALIFORNIA 52-7. WOW. CU has not won back-to-back games in over 2 years. But yet, I keep hearing UGA fans say “but we lost ONLY b/c of a fumble” or “we lost the first 3 games b/c we didn’t have AJ” or “we lost b/c Ealey can’t hang on to the ball”. To which I say – NO, it RUNS MUCH DEEPER than ONE FREAK’N play. You can also insert – “if the OL had blocked better”, “If the Defense would cover people or relearn how to tackle”, “if CMR can FIND A WAY to instill DISCIPLINE to his players – on and off the field”. YOU SEE – we didn’t LOSS b/c of one play, or one fumble, or one player. There are MANY opportunities throughout a ballgame that can be “game changers” – UGA USED TO BE ABLE TO DO THAT – but no longer. It all goes back to coaching. Year end and year out, UGA recruiting classes are in the TOP TEN – Something that GT would salivate at (GT is usually around 30-35 in recruiting classes) – but yet, GT seems to make better at the recruits they have than UGA does. IT ALL GOES BACK TO COACHING. You can have the TOP RECRUITING CLASS EVERY YEAR – BUT IF YOU CAN”T COACH THEM, IT DOESN’T MATTER.
It seems to me his BEST CLASSES were from Jim Donnen’s recruits.
That is why I say – for the first time, that CMR needs to go. Or, CMR needs to grow a pair and let BooBoo go – that will be a sign that CMR means business. But we all know CMR will not do that. So – then CMR MUST GO.

Don’t give up dawg fans. Things look really bleak but from a neutral perspective what I see is that you got a young qb and just seem snake bitten in all of these games with the King fumble just being another bad bounce of the ball that went against you.

For what its worth I think the dawgs should just say to hell with it, not worry about Richt hot seat talk and all that, and just play loose the rest of the season as opposed to playing tight. Still a lot of football to play and everyone left on the dawgs schedule including Florida is a winnable game.

If you make drastic changes you’re only going to set the program back further than it already is.

Coaches aren’t able to go make plays on the field. I don’t believe they aren’t teaching fundamentals or attempting to get these guys to play better… this group of players… is either too young…. or the just aren’t good enough. 2 lost years in 10 isn’t the end of the world. What's going on

It all goes back to coacher.
That is why I say – for the first time, that CMR needs to go. It seems to me his BEST CLASSES were from Jim Donnen’s recruits.

ok folks…let me ask you something…has all the bashing of our football program, the coaches, the players, etc…helped this team get better the last 4 weeks…please someone tell me how much it has helped…I’m waiting…Does it help the parents of these young men feel better when reading the comments made toward our sons who are hurting more than you are right now…Does all the bashing help other young recruits see what a wonderful fan base we have when we bash and boo these young men for making mistakes in a game when they bust their butts throughout the year to play for the University of Georgia…I’m still waiting for someone to tell me how all these discouraging comments has helped our team get better…This is not an awful team, yes the record is bad, but instead of 1-4 it could easily have been 4-1 or 5-0 had some things gone the dawgs way..unfortunately it didn’t and all the bashing and negative remarkds will not change that…What this team needs more than anything right now is for the support of the dawg nation, and let the season play out…then at the end of the year, maybe everyone will get their wish and changes will be made…until then, try and support this team and encourage them…this team needs a win very badly and who knows that might just lead to better things down the road…One thing i will tell you is that your damaging words are going to have an effect on the recruits who are looking at our whole program…Its ok to be upset and and frustrated, everyone is, but things can turn around pretty quick in footballl…a few very talented players at certain positions can turn the program around…We have many of those type of players committed to the dawgs and many others on the fence…so lets stay behind the dawgs and hope things will turn around….If you really are a true dawg fan, then you will do that even if things seem lost right now..I know the players will not give up nor the coaches, so as fans that should be something we strive for also…go dawgs

I am sick about these losses but more sick about some of the “experts ” on this blog who are totally bashing the UGA players and coaches. If all of you are such experts then why are you not coaching for a living? It is certainly appropriate to have discussion about this disappointing season and what should be done to change, but the extreme negativity is getting out of hand. If you are true UGA fans as you say you are then tone it down for the sake of recruits. I am extremely unhappy with UGA’s performance too, but if you think the players and coaches don’t know that something needs to change then you are a moron. And to the Alabama fans who keep commenting, I have degrees from UGA and Alabama and I’ll take UGA with a loosing season ANY day of the week over Alabama. I don’t know a single student in the state of Georgia who would go to Alabama if they could get into UGA (or GaTech). So get over yourselves and enjoy your football team.

Ok, I will not name names, as no one wants to bash their team, but the problems to me are obvious. I am older (59) and have never seen my bulldog teams as undisciplined as they have been the past 3 to 4 years now. We have had top 10 recruiting classes 4 of the past 5 years and the other year was rated at 16. We have great atheletes, but sems we have very few high character kids that are coachable and play with heart and passion instead of using UGA as a stopping off place for the NFL. All the arrest, selfishness by selling a jersey, a lineman who made one of the cheapest shots that would have outraged me had it happened to one of our dawgs, but then again I am outraged that one of my Dawgs would be so bush league. Fumbles at critical times, a kid with 3, yes 3 personal fouls in one game. Guys, this is a character problem in our team. I would rather have 2 and 3 “star” recruits that made up the true junkyard dawgs long agao that “brought” it week in and week out, and would run through a brick wall for Erk. I do beleive coaching is some of the problem and am afraid we have way over paid for a DC, and we are no better maybe even worse on defense this year. However, I think we are to caught up in “stars” when we recruit and we are not doing a good job at identifying the really good character kids with some talent that would be proud and know what a privilage it is to wear that UGA uniform. If Richt wants to coach and turn this around, I beleive he needs to find some of these kids with character insted of all these 4 and 5 “stars” that are gangstas, thugs and cheap shot artist…that is not UGA football, or at least it use not to be. I am older (60) but this is not the way UGA use to play. I would like to see a little class come back to my team.

October 3rd, 2010

The fumble was just the last chance. We screwed up so much throughout the game. We left so many points on the field it is unfair to put it all on the fumble. We had excellent field position time and time again and got zero points. That fact is more incriminating of our preparation and, thus, our coaching staff.

Not sure how to turn it around. Certainly better, more consistent OL play and not running Carlton Thomas into the middle of the line over and over would be a start.

Some of these problems are not quickly fixed; the fact we have stood by and watched this program slowly fall into such disarray can be put on the alumni and supporters. It has been as clear as could be, but we have continued to say ‘it’ll get better, CMR is a good man and hasn’t forgotten how to coach, this excuse and that excuse’. We waited 2 years too long to dump CWM and we have allowed other aspects of the program to take a pass for too long. Accountability needs to start yesterday. There is no reason why significant changes have to wait until season end to be made. Changes can be made without a big public ordeal, but significant changes nonetheless.

Bad luck? I don’t think so. I think we are just bad, period. We have mostly good, very hardworking kids, but the staff is not realizing the potential of the talent of the players, or the support of the institution or fanbase they have available. Good luck is when preparation meets opportun…

Blue..I’m glad you love UGA and think they can do better…i agree…but what do you mean by undercoached…don’t you believe the RB’s are taught to hold onto the ball..how many fumbles have led to our losses this year…The Rb’s are not taught to fumble the ball when they are hit…Our receivers are taught to catch the ball…how many are making plays like AJ when we need it…Do you think that Blair Walsh is taught to miss a field goal, especially at a crucial time in the game when that would have sent us to the locker room with even a bigger lead…I wont sit here and say that i don’t disagree with some of the playcalling at times, but the coaches can call all the right plays that they want to, but unless the players execute, then they want be successful…Yes i guess that has to be on the coaches, but if you really look at all the games that we have lost…any of the outcomes could have been different had some plays been made…I think people don’t realize that talent wise and leadership wise, this team is lacking what the bama’s and gators have…should we still be the Colorado’s and Miss State’s..we should, but this team doesn’t have the horses to be without one star player or able to make crucial fumbles at critical times and still win…I believe we are a few very talented players short…I believe that is what has changed the last 3 or 4 years..I just don’t accept the fact that Coach Richt has forgotten how to Coach…I remember at Penn State that they wanted to run Coach Joe Pa off and say he was to old and couldn’t relate to the players nowadays…well a couple of really good recruiting classes and all of a sudden he could coach again…My point here is that yes we should expect the dawgs to be competitive and i believe they have been, but for whatever reason the team lacks the senior leadership that i think is so needed…Maybe i’m wrong, and maybe it is all the coaches fault…Please remember where this program was before Coach Richt took over…I remember and it wasn’t very good…Coach Donnan was a good Coach, but was having trouble beating Tech…Coach Richt has a 8-1 record against Tech…Who will be the next savior of our program…and if changes need to be made how long will the next coach get to turn the program around…Will he only get one season..because that is what alot of people right now are saying our DC can’t coach and we made a mistake with him…How long does he get to get our defense to be a factor again..Everyone points to our recruiting classes as having been in the top 10 or what was it last year…top 20?…Who has been number 1 thru 3 for the past several years…Bama, Gators, LSU, Texas, USC…This is a tremendous year for the state of Georgia and if we get the ones we are after i think things will start to go forward again…but i agree the 1-4 start is probably going to be part of the equation for these recruits…I don know this that these recruits think a lot of Coach Richt and the dawgs coaching staff, they are not just looking at our record, but looking at playing time, the fan support, the facilities and the belief that they can be the one that makes the difference out on the field…go dawgs….

There was a Buff defender right in king’s face and he had to do the best he could to try and get a positive outcome which ended up being a spin move that resulted in a fumble. Flea-Flicker my a$$. As for CMR…you cant blame that fumble on the exchange on him..you cant blame the fumble on the Miss. St. goal line on him…you cant blame the fumble agaisnt South Carolina on first and goal on him either…CMR did not make those mistakes he is just the coach of the team that did. Everyone of those mistakes could have changed the game entirely. As for being out coached, well that has been the problem the last 3 years…Love CMR, but he is in the same position that Fulmer was 2 years ago…Im not saying he needs to go but i dont think he will have a choice…Plus keeping him might help us land that Crowell kid who could help our struggling o-line like knowshon did based on how good he is.

Hey What, one more thing, I see some of the techies having fun with our “problems”, and although I have some friends that graduated from tech and I’m not into the real hate of it all, the fact is we are so into their heads it isn’t even funny. They know that when the game times come against us that they will most likely lose. We have owned them in football since Dodd retired in 66, and even though they have had some excellent basketball teams they can’t beat us in Athens, and we hold our own against them even in bb, when we have played them in baseball over the past 15 years or so in a meaningful baseball game we always seem to win. Seems like they would need to beat us oh say 2 or 3 years in a row before they try to pull our string. UGA fans really should just laugh at these losers until they prove that they can compete and win against us more than just here and there. One thing I know, tech is and will be better with Paul Johnson, but UGA will be back in short order wheather with Richt or somone else and we will stay in the techies head until they can beat us consistantly or at least half the time, and truthfully, I don’t think they can do that. Even with Johnson we will still win 7 or 8 out of 10. Last year proved that.

I had the pleasure of meeting CMR at a fund-raiser for a local Church in the off-season and remember thinking I hope this guy never leaves UGA. I never thought we would get to this level. I realize its the SEC and you can’t have 10 win season every year but to be 1-4 is beyond a bad dream. I will continue to support the team but I wonder if a guy like Jim Harbaugh would not be a bad option. As for the Tech fans piling on, I tell you what brag about your football team when you win a bowl game. Your coaching staff has a month to prepare for a bowl game and you guys get blown out.

revise my prediction to be a 7-5 regular season finish. They will lose only one more game (Auburn or Florida not both). They will win big against UT/Vandy/Idaho State and win close ones against KY/GT. Also, they
will win a mid-tier bowl game to finish 8-5.

Well!! Well!! It seems that this blogs brings out the “Miserable Ones” Those people that only cry and whine and beat up young guys in print. I can imagine if some of you “whiners” were to meet these young guys and spout off to them in person you would be picking your A _ _ off the ground. Get off the kids they are only running the plays called in. You whiners are PATHETIC, if my sons were playing and I heard you speak to them that way I would “hold your nose and kick your A _ _ all the way down Broad Street” Wimps!!!!

Hard to believe or accept but the Dogs are down and even if Florida lost, we still have lost 4 straight. Something has to change. Bobo must at least be removed from calling the plays and Coach R take that position. Coach R must give some indication that he still has the passion to win. Just being cool with his headphones and hair is not enough any more.

You want to bet our AD is not already coming up with a list of names to replace Richt? He may not fire him this year but he may pull the plug and get rid of him. You better believe any recruits wavering between UGA and UF and Bama already made up their mind after last night — they are not coming to UGA. It really is that bad. Even Goff’s offense always worked — his problem was that he could not hire a good DC.

I’ve been a CMR supporter all along but the truth is the program is in trouble, he’s been knocked out, and I don’t see how he can get up from. Arrests, undisciplined play on the field, and lack luster play equals time for a change in my book. Coachs can no longer cry foul once they started agreeing to make millions per year. They are paid to win and run a program that makes the school look good. We are doing neither right now.

Outprepared, outschemed, outcoached. Again.

How focused is this team? When UGA ran on the field for the secon half, am I the only person who saw #81 grab the UGA’s cheerleaders ass as he ran past her? Then the look of shock on her face? Once again, the lack of discipline is obvious. Chek it on your DVR if you recorded it.

I dont understand why everyone is so upset. I’ve been complaining for years now about how this staff coaches down top recruits. Nothing will change as long as that doofus barney fife heads up this program. So accept reality, this is Georgia football – - total lack of discipline, arrests, penalties, turnover, sloppy play, bad decision like going for it on fourth and one on your own 25 yard line in the second quarter when your down by 7 point (remember arkansas). Until someone at the top brings in a top coach, this is what it is. Any wonder why the first three DCs offered the job last year turned it down?

Just look at the difference between the Shula and Saban at Bama.

There’s no discipline on or off the field and it’s embarrassing. Discipline is the responsibility of the coaching staff to instill, sometimes with tough love. CMR has lost control of this team, and inconsistent play-calling from Mike Booboo hasn’t helped. Bottom line the players don’t appear to fear or repect CMR as the program leader (maybe as a good Christian) and his ‘aww shucks’ attitude. Those Christian values aren’t being adopted by many players and explayers arrested for DUI’s, driving on a suspended license, and sexual assault. I hate to say it, but it’s time for a change. We need a coach like Saban (can’t stand the guy), who has a zero tolerance for BS and can strike fear into his players.

Time to regroup and put back the 4-3 defense, Georgia is not the NFL, where they have the players to execute that type of defense. We are trying to run a NFL defense with College calibre players. CMR needs to go back and call the plays, BOBO needs to go back… to wherever he came…If we let CMR go we would be satisifying the masses, but this is not the answer. Some other college would give there left nut to have him, Mars….

Where can the replay of the last drive fumball be seen? I only saw it live, but I thought something else was being set up. If it was a flea flicker and CMR is lieing about it, what does that tell you. Hear he goes again. Blames his players for something that is a coaching problem. I don’t want to hear anymore “good christian man” crap. If he was the “man” his deep supporters like to keep idolizing him for, he would stop blaming his players, take some responsibility, and make drastic changes. None of which will he do until he feels it is the last the he can do to save his job. Any coaching change would be better. Even if the new coach did not do better than CMR is doing now, it would send a much needed message that WE DON”T TOLLERATE THIS. then sooner or later we will find something that works. Look at Alabama, theyt we down ten years and went through several coaches. I don’t neccessarily want to be down for ten years, but it looks like we have already been down for about 5 and it looks like it is only getting worse. Change is inevitable, the question is how long do we want to wait and how far do we let our program slide until we do it?

What next Black jerseys for Tennessee or All black? Either will be fine as this team is in mourning. Please tell us Georgia fand how though you are 1-4 you will now run the table and play in a BCS game? The fans charges the field because all they heard all weekend were these visiting UGA “Homers ” tell stories of the ole days when we had Hershel Walker and we won a NC , Hell those fans thought they were playing the greatest team in SEC history. Today they may hit the internet only to find out , the team they just beat has a history but its a history of being overrated a 20 year history of consistantly losing to UF and UT. Not a run at a NC since 1980. Georgia get over yourself and start telling us how its going to be so good next year ! Fans remember this. Next year Florida , Tennessee and Auburn as well as Arkansas will be better and you will not be. Your 2nd coming AJ is bolting for the NFL. Your backs will be freshman and the list goes on. I flipped to the Georgia game (we could get it in Florida) during time outs of the Florida game. Georgia just seems to lack heart to me and the defense is not very good. I think Georgia will still get better, but losing to Colorado is embarrassing to Georgia and the SEC.

Now Florida…which embarrassed itself last night…..

Final score…..Florida 4 turnovers (2 leading to touchdowns and one preventing one) and Alabama 0 turnovers. Brantley was not ready for prime time…and does not look comfortable in the spread against a great team like Bama. But Florida’s defense is still very good. Bama did very little on offense (especially in the second half when the Florida DC…who is very good….made some adjustments) other than a couple of big plays and their defense won the game for them. If Florida can get their offense together…and I am not convinced they can at this point…..Florida has a good chance at a rematch with Bama in Atlanta….but no chance of beating them there at this stage unless Brantley is used differently (he is a pro style passer not a spread quarterback) and/or Trey Burton is utilized more in the spread offense as a quarterback. The Gators have real problems with who they are on offense….and a offensive coordinator who thinks John Brantley is an option quarterback. Brantley should not be asked to make multiple reads and pitches on running plays and then end up with the ball….which happened too many times last night. He should just hand the ball off or make immediate pitches to his running backs….and pass off of play action. He can not fit a square peg into a square hole Mr. Florida offensive coordinator. Also….Mike Pouncey is not effective as a center. He is an all-american guard…but an ordinary center. That position needs to be played by Robey, not Pouncey. Everyone can see that but the offensive coordinator (who is also the offensive line coach) at Florida.

The defense looks worn out midway thru the 3rd quarter, maybe those two a days in the summer would have helped? You all have the mindset of an Ohio St or Texas or Oklahoma or Alabama or Florida. You should have the mindset of a Kentucky or South Carolina or Ole Miss etc… There is nothing wrong with wanting your team to be the best but why beat yourself up YEAR after YEAR? Lower your expectations or the indigestion will never go away. CMR has a better win percentage than Dooley, etal. The grass is not always greener… see Colorado Head Coach, Dan Hawkins. Still a Dawg, I agree on the juvenile remarks, but its losers that tolerate losing that are the ones hurting the program and need to “zip it up” as well. This downware spiral would not be tolerated at other top programs so why should it be here? Being critical of the team or its coaches is not being a fair weather fan, it means they don’t like losing especially when you have a coach being paid over 3 million a year to be a top 10 team, not drop like a rock to lower echelons of the conference. This drop will hurt recruiting so just “how” is it going to get better? It will be a long and arduous climb just back to mediocrity…

After last night, it truly does appear that the SEC is Bama and everyone else. I think UF CAN beat anyone else they play, but they proved to be no match for Bama.
UGA is just a total mystery to me at ths point. I wathced during commercials and still saw tons of missed tackles and blown assignments. I guess they just really don’t have the players needed to win this year.

What a great day! The rudest and most obnoxious fans I come across are Ga fans. I love seeing them fall apart and the fact that GT pulled out their close game at the end while UGA wet the bed makes it even sweeter! That being said, your program is either moving forward or moving backward…which way is GA going? Unless Richt wins out, he should OFFICIALLY be on the hot seat. Meaning, unless he basically wins out and follows up next season by winning the SEC, he should be gone.

Flea Flicker debate…was it a FF or a simple missed handoff?

If it were a simple missed handoff the QB would have noticed it immediately and dove in to get the football. Since it was (in fact) a flea flicker the QB was back on his heals expecting a lateral back so he could step into the throw. They will tell you different – but this is reality.

Also…at that altitude (if the kicker can simply kick the ball straight) it’s almost an extra point kick as far as distance.

Richt is not going anywhere, we are going down fast. Stop with the we gotta get back to work. If you look at the comments players are worried about quitting on the season. We have all seen it before, and yes the players are quitting.

I think Coach Bowden tried to warn us before we hired Coach Richt, he said he was to good for his own good. I totally agree with that, he does not have the killer instincts that some of the other coaches have, they take no mercy. CMR needs to be a counciler some where and do what he likes to do help people, you cant do that as a head coach. And Bobo is just over his head, after watching last nights game you could see it written all over CMR face, they cant figure this out! I am not blaming these players, I am blaming the coaching, if they want to save their jobs they had better be working 24/7 before next weeks game!

There were times in my life when I can honestly say games like last night’s were “ours”. You just knew that Georgia would find a way to win….particularly and certainly against South Carolina, Arkansas ,Mississippi State or Colorado. You knew the defense would step up. You knew someone would make a play on offense or defense.

We had character. We had discipline. Most of all, we had coaches that players believed in.

Tom, Resident Georgia Fan

The coaches will never admit it but it was a flea flicker; Caleb’s spin around had the hallmark look of a back about to toss the ball back the QB. All we had to do was drive into position to kick a FG and win the game. It’s a true example of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Bottom Line

October 3rd, 2010

SmyrnaDog,

The staff recruited this bunch. So did Alabama, Florida, etc. They all go after the same players. This is the chickens coming home to roost. You can’t see it yet, but it is happening in Gainesville too. If coach Richt has an achilles heel, it is his softness on the kids. Maybe this episode will change him and make him firmer and more careful about who he recruits in the future.

I will give you one name. Dabo Sweeney. He took over for T. Bowden, took the same bunch of kids who were embarrassing Clemson with their antics on the field and instituited a zero tolerance policy on those actions. Clemson got better.

After his success the first 9 years, Richt deserves the chance to right the ship. Improve recruiting and change the culture of UGA football.

But you are right. It starts with recruiting.

It sure would have been nice to have all three timeouts even after King’s fumble. There was still 1:55 left in the game and three and out would have still given the Dawgs a chance, but due to wonderful COACHING INCOMPETENCE, we were left with one timeout…GAME OVER!!

It’s time for change.

Didn’t see a good replay but my first reaction was that it was a flea-flicker and possibly the worst call in UGA history. Even if it works it’s a bad call unless something was wrong with the best kicker in college football, who happens to be standing on your sideline in a two-point game. I guess you could argue killer instinct, missed one already etc., etc., but you also risk the interception and you don’t burn any clock. A spin move in the back field? Maybe somebody things we can’t handle the truth.

I have found out one thing this year. You can take all these recruiting services and these so called experts that rate these recruits and fire all of them. Just another way to get money with these recruiting shows. UGA has many of these highly rated recruits. Well this is the dumbest, weakest group of athletes UGA has ever had. DB’s, LB’s, OL and RB’s are terrible. They don’t know how to win. And don’t give me this excuse, they haven’t been coached, it they are that good you wouldn’t see the dumb plays or guys getting out run like they are. Everybody needs to look at themselves in the mirror and say hey I need to work my butt off, but more importantly I need to learn to play the game the right way and make plays. AJ Green is so much more of an athlete than anybody on this team. A matter of fact we are a one man team right now.

Snoop Dawg want to call out all these sick UGA apologists right now! I’ve been telling you that da Preacha Man is a fraud for the last two years. I was called a “Hater.” Well, you apologists need to wallow around in the dung pile that you have collected.

The entire game was an expose on the lack of coaching and discipline on a football team. Duds like Bacari Rambo, Caleb King, PayJ Green. All these vaunted 5-star recruits act like the Gangsta Thugs that they are because there is no coaching or discipline.. Just think about the lack of discipline involved when we rough the kicker on a field goal attempt! That was the difference in the game. Now multiply that by one hundred.

Richt Bobo, Searles, Grantham, they are all ripping off the taxpayers. We are chumps.

Adams has been at the wheel while we literally went from #1 to #101 in less than three years. Football is important to UGA. He needs to go with the coaches for being a dufus.

The Dawgnation needs to look in the mirror. Most of you were drinking that Koolaid and talking about what a nice man Richt is. You are contributory negligent. If Marlboro Man Richt cooly strokes his hand through his hair on the sidelines one more time with that arrogant and aloof unemotional demeanor I might might just lose it.

UGA is really looking at a one or two win season at this point. What a sorry story. And we pay the coach three million a year to do this…

I guess you failed to notice that the Gators have won two of the last four National Champoinship with the same calibur of talent that Richt recruits, but according to you the coach is not to blame and has nothing to do with talent evaluation. B.S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can’t take another moron stating that the coach has no say and no bearing whatsoever on the talent HE recruits to each program. RICHT IS RESPONSIBLE. The recruiting analyst say that the talent at UGA is on par with Bama, Florida, & LSU, but we constantly underperform. The COACHES RESPONSIBILITY is to take the players you recruit, find their strengths, and make them better within the context of your system. It’s disingenius to say that it’s recruitings fault and not look to the man in charge. Enough is enough already, it’s time for a new message, a new system, and a new coach. It’s clear to those of us who are unbiased and objective, that Richt’s message has been lost in translation.

Anybody that knows the game and watches the games, know that UGA doesn’t have near the talent Bama has. I don’t believe a darn thing that these recruiting services say. UGA better quit listening to them also. That is one of the problems. We better start evaluating talent our selves and quit going on say so. Only one guy could start for Bama for sure and that is Green. Bama’s offensive line is so much more athletic, their DL, LB and DB’s are so much more talented. And of course the running backs don’t even compare. Bama players get out of position and recover. UGA players get out of position and just chase people.

Dawgs73..I agree. I would probably estimate that 90-95% of our 4 and 5 star players had offers from Alabama and Florida. Which means they were good enough in Saban’s and Meyer’s eyes to come play for their respective programs. But the difference is that in Tuscaloosa or Gainesville they would get coached up and have discipline instilled. We recruit and offer the same players as those two schools and they recruit and offer the same players as we do. Now answer me this. Is our luck so bad that ONLY the bad apples (thugs as some people like to call them) or the players with NO talent or NO discipline DECIDE to come to GA and ONLY the good apples or the players WITH talent and discipline DECIDE to go to AL & FL even though they ALL had offers at each school. NO, it has nothing to do with luck it’s called coaching and direction. As much as it pains me to say it because I truly admire CMR as a man we DO NOt have either right now.

This is certainly a dissapointing start to what should have been a decent season. Question: Why is Aaron Murray not playing in his second season and already producing even better as our quarterback? Answer: Because once again Richt thought it best to reward Joe Cox last year and start him when no other SEC team would have allowed him to be third string. This is an old story at UGA under Coach Richt. I mean, I like the guy, but this is SEC football. Not the place to be that nice. Also, it seems to me that we are seeing the developing of a culture at UGA football. Over the past 5 or more years we have seen the same problems every year. Fumbles, inability to make tackles, and of course the penalties. Then add in the off field problems with the arrests. Our former teams have been able to overcome these problems and win 10 to 8 games. Now that we have a team that is not quite as talented and poorly coached, these problems can not be overcome and we are losing the games we used to edge out. To me, it looks like a culture of behaivor that has been cultivated and will not be changed until the coaching staff is changed. Sad to see this but I fear this is the truth. However, don’t expect any real coaching changes to happen any time soon. It’s the Ray Goff syndrom all over again.

Why do we keep seeing articles where 1 play cost us? It wasn’t one play, it was the whole game. Why not the missed FG before half or the pick in the enzone Murry threw? The main factor is we aren’t any good and it starts at the top. If I was the coach, I wouldn’t even play A.J. to prove my point to the others who think they can get away with anything and damage the UGA. brand and their team mates season. No telling what our record would be if A.J. had played every game, but why should one player make a great impact like that for a big school like UGA? Look at the MO and desire we had when he was in on offense. Still, the D would have had to do their part, which they did while he played, but they slacked up as usual once we got the lead. We always get conservative when we are in the lead, that’s why most of our ganes go down to the wire.

I’m glad that we don’t get evaluated as fans like the players and coaches do. Some of you who are writing things on here about how the team doesn’t work hard and how they shouldn’t be proud of themselves should reevaluate your own life and how much of a loser you are. To tell young men who have worked as hard as these guys have for as many years as they have that they shouldn’t be proud of themselves is as disgraceful a comment as you can make (EngDawg). Maybe there needs to be some coaching changes made, but just because we aren’t winning doesn’t mean the players aren’t working hard. I guarentee you that all of you who are making these stupid comments have never played or coached football in your life. If you had, you would know that you can do everything in your power to win a game and STILL lose! So stop criticizing kids, you jerks… They came here because they loved UGA. You want to talk about recruits watching the games?! What if recruits are reading this message board? Who would want to play for fans like us? Our recruits do have 5 star physical skills. The difference is their mental make up. Look in the players eyes when they show them on TV. No toughness or fire in them at all. The only ones that choose to play at UGA are the ones that are soft, lazy, and trying to get by on their god given physical skills without work. And then whens game time comes around and they are having their asses handed to them by equally talented athletes who do work hard they resort to that undisciplined thug mentality that they have shown in recent years. They know that they would be unable to play for a tough hard nosed football coach like Saban., The tough hard working kids want to play for a tough coach who will make them better. Georgia players lack toughness and heart and that rests solely upon Coach Richt .

UGA fans are pathetic as they are idiots. Your expectations were way to high for this team to begin with. New DC, new QB, untested in many areas, and what were your actual expectations. Seriously if you thought fo even a second this team had a chance at SEC champs, or further you really are drunk on your own koolaid. Can you say rebuilding?
Also, many posters have mentioned the fact UGAY continues to bank on the recruits MR brings in. Well by recruitng services (Insert joke here) they may get players, but it is becoming more obvious weekly and seasonally none of the coaches there do a good job of teaching up these players. Really, has A.J. Green gotten better than he was? He came in very good, and is still very good, but he had natural ability, and is an example of a player they recruit, but not going to next level in growth. Don’t missread, he is very good, but has he gotten better every year? Rennie Curran did, but name players that fit into these 2 columns and ask yourself the truth. You will see what other teams, fans and coaches have seen for a few years now. MR is soft and a replica of Bowden.
Also, great move running onto field in Florida game years ago, as I hope you liked the way it felt being run over in Colorado!

It was NOT a flea flicker; it was a standard, up the middle run play…
“I don’t know where the guy [defender] came from. I handed the ball off, and it just came out. That’s pretty much how it happened. You can’t blame Caleb King for that…”
‘as basic of a play as we’ve got’

The problem was the line letting the guy come through and bust the play. The defender hit Caleb just as the hand-off was being made.

All you Sunday Morning QBs are just brilliant. Fire Coach Richt? If yall were Penn St or Texas or even Flawduh fans, you’d be wanting to fire their coaches too (I won’t even mention Les Miles). ALL programs go through down times. Bear Bryant and Joe Pa have had down times. With “fans” like some of you here those two greats never would have made it. CMR’s record proves he can coach. To suggest he doesn’t have “fire” or “desire” or to suggest the players aren’t “in shape” (ad nausea) just shows your ignorance. No telling how many recruits we’ll lose if they read these posts from so-called fans who are ready to fire a good head coach. We’d be starting all over again…with another two or three years adjustment/rebuilding. You have no idea if Smart or Muschamp (or anybody else) would want to give up what they have and come to UGA. If Texas has the same kind of “fans”, Mack Brown could be a choice.

Yes, the Dawgs are down right now. Yes, it’s sickening and disheartening; even disgusting in some ways. But to suggest I know more about what “needs to be done” is the epitome of ignorance and arrogance. Yes, they need to play smarter; not make mistakes; not be out of position on defense; block better; protect the ball better; tackle better…and on and on. Heck, I’m not so sure about this 3-4 defense being installed when all the defenders have played all their lives is a 4-3. Going in, we knew we had a freshman, inexperienced QB. But, I think CMR has the ability to straighten out this ship.

Goooo Dawgs! Get ready to beat the Vols!

Party School: Absolutely not! Murray is doing very well for a guy that has been thrown in with no playing experience. He will be a great quarterback and by the end of this season, no matter how it turns out, we will all be very impressed with him. I’m saying that Murray should have had playing time last year and perhaps that experience could have helped this team. NO blame on Murray at all for this mess. And maybe I’m wrong all together. I have followed UGA football since I was 5 years old. I’m now 48. We held family season tickets up until about 13 years ago. I then bought my own for 3 years until I married (again) and could not afford them. Hey, I would buy them again even with a team that loses every game. I love UGA. Went to school there, worked in Athens for 5 years as well. It just looks like the same problems that we have had for quite some time are now the same problems that a young team is unable to overcome. We will not have AJ next year. So what happens next season if these same problems remain? I like Coach Richt, always have. But now I am beginning to wonder about his abilities to control the team and change this behavior. This loss is not about one fumble at the end of the game. We should have put this game to bed in the second quarter but were unable to.
Once again, GO DAWGS

Not a hater. Love my Dawgs and always will! However, from a dollars and cents perspective, we are not getting the return on investment for the millions we are paying our coaches. Face it… Richt is a great man, and I will always deeply respect him. However, he has obviously been unable to inspire this team that not only cannot manage to win on the field, but cannot even live up to a higher moral and ethical standard that Richt espouses on a consistent basis off the field. I can handle not winning. I can handle the occasional player indiscretion, after all these are young men. However, the fact the fact that we can’t win on or off the field tells me there is something culturally wrong with this program. Ten arrests, really? Something is seriously wrong!!!!! The sooner we begin a wholesale change environment, the sooner we can get better.

Last week I thought McGarity would give Richt a pass for 2010, but the way things are going I’m not so sure. If we lose to Tech, all bets are off and Richt may very well lose his job.

First UGA game was in 1959. Went to Sanford Stadium with my grandfather and his brother. I was about 10. Wally Butts was then the UGA coach and UGA then for the most part was on hard times, although they made the 59 or 60 Urange Bowl vs MIssouri and won it and UGA QB Larry Rakestraw passed for record that stood until recently.

A loss on Saturday will put this UGA team in the class of the horrible, horrible UGA teams of the late 50s or early 60s. If UGA loses to Tennessee and Dereck Dooley that will cause an emotional outburst by all UGA grads my age. They will not like losing because Tennessee slaughtered UGA last year and now with Dooley, it would be doubly worse. If that happens you all will not believe the massive out cry for these coaches all ………all to be fired on the spot.

Mark Richt is dreaming if the thinks that he will coach in 2011. Why? What will make such a change in 2011 that it will be all in the past? Will the UGA O and D lines be better?? Nope. Will the UGA linebackers and D backs be able to play with out cheap shots??? Will UGA running backs be better. No, UGA’s 2011 running backs now are non existant. Non existant they are. OH yeah, ealey if he is not in prison will be a junior. AAAHAHAHAHAHA he too will be gone.

AJ will be gone. Obviously, if he is out, then UGA plays like scared girls.

UGA needs to fire richt now and get a group of former UGA players to take the helms until they can hire a professional staff in December or January.

ITS NOT RICHTS FAULT!
Many people don’t know this but UGA cant just let anybody it wants in to play football because its not like high school when anyone can go. At UGA the principal has to let them in and UGAs school classes are very hard so not all of the players Coach Richt wants can come to play. Other schools are much easier to get into, but UGA is like the Ivee league schools (those expensive northern schools like harvard, yale and rutgers), where the acadeamic classes are very hard. As long as UGAs acadeamic classes are are this hard and our principal doesn’t make it easier for the football players to get in, it will make it really hard for us to win our 6th National Championship. I am not saying it is impossible, just hard. GO DAWGS!

Last night a Florida fan asked me what has happened to our program. I struggled to answer that question, but after contemplating it for a while I said the following:

1. We clearly having a coaching issue. UGA has put more players in the NFL over the last 10-15 years than any program in the country. We are clearly recruiting talent, but we’re not maximizing that talent on the field.
2. Our superstars are leaving after their junior year making National Championship runs extremely difficult. The number of outstanding players who have left for the NFL after three years at UGA is jaw dropping. It’s impossible to win a National Championship when core members bolt for the rest of the team can mature around them.
3. We’re not recruiting enough players who can play through adversity.
4. Mark Richt coddles his players. When I found out Richt got after Grantham for dressing down his players in the first game I was extremely disappointed. That’s precisely the type of coaching we need with these over-hyped players.
5. Rodney Garner is not a good coach, period.

These folks can see what’s wrong with Georgia, the fans just won’t admit it.

Tyler Hansen’s hustle stumps Bulldogs

The running ability of Colorado`s starting quarterback Tyler Hansen somehow escaped Georgia coaches in their preparation for Saturday`s game.
Georgia coach Mark Richt acknowledged after the Buffs` 29-27 victory that Hansen`s ability to make plays with his feet caused his defense problems. Hansen helped the Buffs continue their strong performance on third downs. The Buffs converted seven of 15 third-down opportunities.

“He was a big problem,” Richt said. “… I can`t think of how many times that he was the difference in them moving the chains in a third-down situation. His ability to run, break tackles and keep plays alive. Later in the game, he did a lot of great things.”

Is it bad that I want this team to bottom out and go 3-9 so that Rich can go? The Mark Richt car has driven off the cliff and is officially free falling. The only way this gets better is when he leaves. I don’t understand how a coach can go from 13-1 to this! It’s the craziest most bi-polar damn thing I’ve ever seen. Its unprecedented, it really is!

Except for AJ( who is a freakin human highlight reel) and Murray, everyone else on this team is terrible. A bunch of 3 stars at best! I don’t know what our recruiting department has been doing the last 4-5 years b/c the overall talent on this team is just lousy! Terrible coaching, no identity on offense, zero talent on defense. I’ve seen 3-7 high school teams look better than this! And I feel sorry for whoever is coming in after Richt, because they will have a MAJOR rebuilding project on their hands! I’m talking 2-3 years of rebuilding, like what Tennessee is going through right now! Richt will leave this cupboard completely empty!

Those who think we have a shot at Florida because they are down this year are self deluded. Mark it down, they will beat us by 35 to 40 points. This team is the worst Georgia team in my lifetime, and there is NO excuse for it. Not rebuilding, injuries, suspensions or bad luck. Just awful coaching (from top to bottom) and, apparently, poor recruiting. Also, someone please tell me how next year will be better? No AJ, losing a bunch of seniors on O line. Did anyone else notice the variety of formations and looks Col. Buf. coach, Dan Hawkins(ex. Boise State off. guru) gave the DAWGS. Our defense was having to attempt to make adjustments constantly. We seemed off balanced most of the game. Contrast our offensive play calling. The AJ Green Flanker around was as close to an unpredicted play as we came. The play calling by our coaching staff was standard issue, ten-year-ago- play calling. The other teams seem to be adjusting to new defensive spreads and we aren’t They knew what we were going to do in advance and so does the rest of our competition. It is sad to me……. To Caleb King’s defense, I thought he had a very solid game prior to the fumble. He read his blocks well and ran hard. Hope, he continues to improve.

Let me splain it to y'all

October 3rd, 2010
11:46 am

OK, here goes: First, I am 62 and a UGA grad and been a fan since 1959. I know of what I speak.

UGA is losing and has been losing for more than this year. Why? UGA has not signed the very physical, strong, tough, nasty defensive linemen and offensive linemen like all the other schools have. See KY, Arkansa, Tennessee, see SC, see Florida and see LSU and see now Auburn, and see Alabama and the entire SEC. UGA is not a typical SEC squad on the lines of scrimmage. Period. UGA was out muscled again by slow, mid western farm boys. This is disgraceful.

The former “high ratings in recruiting” were from signing great kickers or flankers or QBs or punters or skill players ……………..NOT from signing linemen of any worth. We get the lower tier of linemen and the entire world knows htis but Mark Richt. Why?? because it worked in the old FSU in the 90s days with Wake Forest and SOutehrn MIss when FSU played them. Skill player Speed worked in the ACC. If you do not have bulk in the trenches in the SEC you are climing up hill.

Until UGA gets a coaching staff that is aware of this defecit, UGA will continue to get worse and worse. We will wind up around 3-9 or 4-8. That will place us as the worst UAG team since the mid 1950s.

Richt has been guilty of this for about 5 years. Why will all of this get better in 2011? It will not. We will lose at recruiting now because Richt is damaged goods. 2011 will be a carbon copy of 2010 so McGarity needs to pull the plug now and take our licks in recruiting.

I cannot believe all of the comments on here about a flea-flicker. It was a fumble on a basic running play that the team had been running all night. It was a bad exchange. Pure and simple. Get your conspiracy theorist heads out of the clouds. If you want to make arguments about getting rid of the coaching staff, do it based on their actual performance on the field, not based on some nonsensical hypothetical play calling that you want to hang your anger on.

The alumni have had enough. He simply cannot get the job done ……….with HIS players.

This is reason enough for Richt to resign. He has said it all. He has nothing of value anymore to add to the UGA program. He has had his shot ………….resign. Grantham can take it from here and Yes, Coach Grantham WILL BE IN THE FACE of these kids.

People on here saying that it was supose to be a flea-flicker?? I don’t get that one at all. I watched it several times and King never had a good handle on the ball. Plus the CU defense got back there quickly. It was a regular hand off. Not defending King because it was a good exchange from Murray. He just got caught looking up and not concentrating on the hand off.
At saying that, we have a problem Houston. We MIGHT win 2 more this year.(that includes Idaho State) Times they looked good for a couple plays then times that they were totally clueless. Over 400 yards in Offense so reaaly can’t blame it on the play calling. It’s all about execution and there is a inability to execute on both sides of the ball consistantly. CU guys were not even that big!

More UGA history class - UGA circa 1961

October 3rd, 2010
1:08 pm

In 1961, UGA with Coach Johnny Griffith went 3-7. That is the most recent low point for UGA football. Now, if you want to include 1962, UGA was 3-4-3. I prefer to use the first one because it has 7 losses and this team ( 2010 ) will shatter that ugly mark. UGA in 2010 will go 3-9.

Even if we ( UGA class of 71 & 73) win 4, we will then only be 4-8. The 8 losses in this scenario still make the 2010 team the worst in 50 years.

No matter how you cut it, UGA will shatter the Ray Goff records for losing so let us now get past bad mouthing Ray Goff. He at least was one of our winningest QBs vs Florida in history with 2 out of 3 wins. He led UGA ot the Tangerine and the Cotton and the Sugar vs Tony Dorset and Co. We lost all three too. AHAHAHAHAAHA ………oh well.

No, Mark Richt is the NEW UGA low, low standard. Y’all still wanna keep him because he is such a good, God fearing man? We all are that ………..he however, is paid to WIN.

Relax, Bulldog fans. Georgia is a much improved team with Green on the field. Once he gets properly hydrated and doesn’t cramp he can play the entire game. With him on the field, the defense has to cheat coverage and that opens up other opportunities.
You will lose to Florida and probably Auburn. You will likely finish 7 – 5 or 6 – 6. Not too bad after starting 1 – 4.

Friend, LSU was looking ahead to Florida. Florida is the BRAND NAME, along with ALABAMA, as the two flag ship SEC prgorams, bar none. I am a Georgia Bulldog too. We for now, are down in steerage as far as boats go. I’ll give you that.

Now, LSU will kick Florida around pretty well, because LSU can run on D. LSU has just enough O to keep it close and LSU will win in the end.

No, Butler was right. He for two years has complained about UGA being physically inferior to all SEC teams and that until WE REMEDY that, all the 5 star flankers and 4 star QBs and All World kickers will not win games in the SEC. BY the way, what has Orson Charles done for UGA??? He is so over rated.

UGA is deficient in running backs ( ours might start for Vandy or KY ) and in O linemen and in nose guards and in O linemen and in D linemen and in D linemen and in D linemen and did I say D linemen?? They all lack the big, ugly NASTY ATTITUDE. Period.

I have been a staunch CMR supporter, but what he said last week let me know that is was time for him to go. When being asked about what the problems were, he replied that “he didn’t know”. That “we are still doing the exact same things were doing when we were winning a few years ago”. THAT’S THE PROBLEM! He has not adapted to ANY changes that have come in the game. Sure, you can still run the Power I, and work off play action, etc, IF you have an Ingram and Richardson and an OL that can actually block. We DO NOT have the talent to line up and just beat people anymore. We need to get someone who has real ideas and can bring us up to speed with the current state of college football. Well, my take on the game is that we have no OL line to speak of… in all the games. I thought this was supposed to be one of our strongest assets. They get pushed around like they’re nothing. Our “D” sucks too. I cannot believe how open the oppositions receivers are.. not this, but all games. I mean “WIDE OPEN”. In running situations, they look like they’re grasping to make tackles… not hitting. Always out of position. Aaron Murry, great job. You can just tell, he’s good. He has tried to carry this team on his own with is runs for first downs. Great to have AJ back… but he’s just one guy. What’s the deal with Cuff? How many personal fouls can you get in one game? We could have used the extra points you gave them for your roughing the kicker penalty. I agree with Knox… #23 Hamilton might as well be on the bench.

Two of the personal fouls weren’t really his fault. The roughing the passer was complete BS. The roughing the kicker was a correct call and had to made, but if he hadn’t lost his footing, he would have avoided the kicker. I can’t blame him for playing hard and slipping on the turf.
What really got to me was the touchdown he allowed right after roughing the kicker. He got sucked inside immediately and didn’t stay at home. They ran right through where he should have been standing to get the TD.

That being said, I agree changes need to be made. I would like to address some the changes I have seen suggested on here in the last 4 weeks…

“Call Kirby Smart” or ” Call Peterson” etc…
This is about as retarded as the ones from a year ago calling for David Pollack to be hired as DC !
Kirby Smart – What you see on tv every week at Alabama is NOT his work ! Make no mistake about it, it is Saban’s work ! And the logic of “he was a good dawg” is equally as retarded ! Look at Bobo !! He was a mediocre QB at best !

Coach Peterson – Why on God’s green earth would he leave what he has at BS to come to Athens ? He has a great situation where he is !

The dawg nation needs to take a deep breath and relax. Things will get better but you aren’t going to win a MNC or a SEC championship over night when you make wholesale changes like UGA has made.

It may have worked in Gator country, but if you look at the way Ron Zook recruited for Coach Meyer, his job was easy. Coach Saban had name status coming in from the Dolphins and went 6-6 his first year at Bama, but recruited extremely well because of that name status for 2008. UGA can’t get anyone close to Saban’s status right now, so just remember and learn fro what the VOLS did to Coach Fulmer. We’ve got a long way to go here in Knoxville.

CMR is a nice man but he has become satisfied with the amount of money he has accumulated. He knows his family, his children’s family and his grandchildren are set financially for life. His priority is his religion and missionary work and that’s a great thing unless you happen to be a head football coach in the SEC. He needs to retire and bow out gracefully and enjoy his life.
UGA needs to hire a new head coach with a fire in his gut to be a national championship winner level head football coach. We need a coach that would coach because that is what he loves to do. Hopefully that is whichever of the two alumni DB’s has the most desire to come home and fix this disgraceful program. Muschamp would probably rather come home and be the head coach at UGA than stay at Texas. He has only been there 3 years so he surely hasn’t grown deep roots. Smart also has roots all over the state and would surely like to return home. One of the two should be announced within 5 minutes of the end of the GA-GA Tech game. The new head coach needs to get started salvaging the recruiting class of 2011 ASAP.

White chasing down the guy who intercepted the pass with under two minutes left and making him fumble it back to the Falcons WOULD NOT have happened with our current Dawgs. Someone said we should dig up Coach Bryant and put his lifeless corpse, not corps, on the sidleine. Couldn’t be any worse then what we have now.

I tend to agree with that statement!

There is a lot of negative comments made on this post. Most of it is to get into the heads of the new recruits. CMR is not going anywhere,BOO BOO will be coaching QBs and we will adjust. The defence is still learning. Granthum did not recruit these kids and he is trying to work with what he has been given. It will take years to get to where he needs to be. The offense is where the problem is. Put Ealy in and teach him to hold on to the football he is UGAs best back. If we can land the kid out of Columbus he will be starting next year.

The problem is recruiting. Regardless of the scheme, you have to have players smart enough to have the discipline and heart to execute it. We sadly lack in both regards. Richt gets one more year to get it right if 2011 doesn’t deliver 9 or more wins then I believe he will be toast. McGarity will not let the program slide further into mediocrity.Remember he needs to justify that was indeed the right hire by the Athletic Board. I believe Richt has lost the fire to agressively compete with Urban and Saban for a National Championship. I think the Program deserves no less than the total commitment from every coach on staff to Recruit, Coach, Strenghen, Scheme like every game good be their last associated with the University of Georgia. The next several weeks will reveal alot about about the Mindset of the Program.

Look at the programs Richt came from. Miami and FSU. No discipline, just recruit the best player’s and let them do their thing. Worked in the 80’s 90’s, sputtered out in the 00’s. UGA is heading down the same road as those programs.

Everybody goes through it dawg fans. That loss Tenn. took was as tough a loss as I have ever seen. I feel bad for the UGA players. Not the fans. They ALWAYS over expect. UGA teams always play hard. I know nothing about playcalling or coaching, and I’m no die hard Ga. fan but I love SEC football. I’ve walked this planet for 72 years, admired some great coaches.Bobby Dodd at Tech, Shug Jordan at Auburn, Bear Bryant at Bama, Wally Butts at UGA. B. Wyatt at Tenn. and many more. And they all had lean seasons. Everybody expected it. There was no fIRE this one, FIRE that one. HE NEEDS TO RESIGN. BITCH, BITCH, BITCH. Everybody has to rebuild some. This talk some do “WE DON’T REBUILD WE RELOAD is CRAP! I know these coaches make big salaries these days but thats what fans and supporters demand. If they have success the first season everybody says pay him or someone will hire him away. Then a new coach comes in and if he has a off year it starts all over again. I would’nt have the damn job.

Does anybody ever analyze what went wrong, or ask tough questions?

1. My dead grandma knew Richt would run it up the middle with 1:56 to go, setting up for another Walsh miss from longer range than his earlier miss. My dead grandma. Colorado called timeout and ran a defense that just destroyed that play. That led to a fumble. A bad offensive playcall that was so predictable that it was destroyed. Fault? Mark Richt.

2. How in the world do you decide to take a delay of game penalty from your OWN 45 before a punt? Butler, who is slumping badly, didn’t even punt the ball to the opponent’s 20. That is freakish. That is bizarre. That is STUPD. Fault? Mark Richt.

3. How do you commit a roughing the passing penalty when you held them on 3rd down? How do you commit a roughing the kicker on a missed field goal? Those plays were critical. Undisciplined, stupid football. Fault? Mark Richt.

4. Conclusion? FIRE MARK RICHT.

Yes, times are not good at UGA and yes the team has not looked very good, but remember this all you “football experts” in 9 seasons at UGA CMR has taken UGA to 3 SEC title games and has finished in the top 10 at least 6 out of the 9 seasons. You do not just fire a guy that has dedicated 10 years of his life to a program. He has earned the right to try and fix the problems that have developed. Don’t get me wrong the program is not on good footing right now, but always be careful what you wish for…… you knee jerk lynch mob mentality Georgia fans all shouted at the top of your lungs about wanting to fire Willie last year and so CMR did and what did we get in replace of him… an overweight foul mouth re-tred NFL guy….. I can tell you first hand that in order to be a good coach you do not have to be able to jump in a kid’s face and scream and drop F bombs all over the place. Like anything, you need to be a good communicator, I played for Van Gorder and while he was tough and sometimes hard to deal with he was an excellent teacher of the game, and players respected him for that…. he was able to get his point across without jumping in your face or cursing at you. Willie was a good DB coach, he was no DC, but he was a good position coach, when we lost him, we lost a good coach….. but the UGA faithful said he had to go so CMR got rid of him. Now the mob is after Bobo and Richt and everybody wants Kirby Smart…. I have a news flash for you Georgia grads and for the others that never stepped foot on the campus but feel they are entitled to have a voice in this matter. Kirby and Bobo are old roommates and best freinds…. you think Kirby wants to come home and fire one of his closest friends…… Don’t get me wrong, Georgia has got some issues that need correcting and that will be up to Mark Richt to fix, but please, when you do not know the first thing about football, which it is obvious that most of you bloggers do not, please keep your comments and your radio call-in rants to yourself…. because 99% of you could not do a better job at blocking, tackling, running, passing or coaching than the guys who are there now playing and coaching. I know most of you think differently, but trust me if you could have you would have….. quit basing your opinions on your washed up high school glory days to real football like the SEC. As long as those boys stay together and keep fighting Coach Richt will right the ship. He is too good of a man to not be given that more respect. Go Dawgs

“…splain…” – UGA has not signed the very physical, strong, tough, nasty defensive linemen and offensive linemen like all the other schools have. See KY, Arkansa, Tennessee, see SC, see Florida and see LSU and see now Auburn, and see Alabama and the entire SEC. …”

Just some of our linemen (no DE’s nor TE’s) and just some of their accolades:
J. Anderson-Superprep A.A., AJC Super 11, Rivals.com Top 7 Offensive Guard; C. Boling-AJC Top 50, Rivals.com Top 10, Scout.com Top 5; C.Davis-Rivals.com Top50, Scout.com Top 30 in Georgia; J.Davis-Scout.com #15 player in Miss, Mobile Register Super S.E. 120; D.Dobbs-4 star, Top 11 DE in nation, Top 3 DE in South; K.Geathers(RFr)-SuperPrep AA#18 DL in nation; C.Glenn-AJC Super Southern 100, 4 star, #15 o.tackle nationally, #10 prospect in GA; A.J. Harmon- AJC Super 11, #6 prospect in GA, 4 star, #4 run blocker, #2 o.guard; B.Jones-All SE, Ala 1st Team All State, #7 o. center, #5 o.center in nation, 3 star; D.Lee-All Dixie, All SE, AJC Top 150, 4 star, #3 strongest o.lineman; A.Long-PrepStar AA, Top 10 in Tenn, #1 o.tackle in Tenn; J.Owens-PrepStar All SE, 3 star, Ala Writers First Team All State; T.Sturdivant-Super Southern 100, N.C. Gatorade Player of the Year, SuperPrep AA, #14 O.guard in the nation, National Honor Society…

Sure, Texas, OK, Ala got more 4 and 5 star linemen recruits; but to say we haven’t recruited linemen “like all the other schools…” is absurd. You lost your credibility on your other points.

We ARE ABLE to recognize a good coached team if we see one. And, UGA is not looking like one. You don’t have to be a great artist to be a good critic. Just because we can’t tackle someone, we can’t criticize a team with bunched of missed tackles? That’s BS.

“…Please keep…”
You’re right. I’m just saying that firing CMR isn’t the answer. That will only lead to even more turmoil and uncertainty; fewer recruits and more “rebuilding”. CMR has the credentials and the record, and should be given every chance to make things right. As has been pointed out, many posters here wanted CWM’s head and got it. Look where that got us. Which is not to say that CTG won’t get the D straightened out. But to “force” a 3-4 on players that perhaps aren’t cut out for it might have been a mistake. Maybe he should have eased em into it; throw in some 3-4 here and there instead of a wholesale change. But I’m not ready to fire CTG even though our D sure looks lost and confused four or five times a game (and gives up the big play).

And complaining about running plays: at the start of the season everybody wanted us to run the ball, “we gotta run the ball”; “Ealy and King are gonna be awesome”, etc. So, we keep trying to get a running game going and everybody here now asks why we didn’t throw more. We all (should) know that basic football strategy says you gotta run the ball and you gotta stop the run.

What we need is a mascot. Interim Russ just aint cuttin’ it.

This will be my last post, no big deal there. It’s just no use reading all this crap written by the same clueless idiots that call into the post game show. You can actually hear there intelligence, or lack there of, at that time. A perfect example is the guy on the very first page here who says CMR makes $63,000 tax payer dollars per week. The coaches make ZERO tax payer dollars any numbskull knows that and yet the ajc gives you people a forum to display your stupidity to the world. There is no wonder people from other parts of the country think Georgia fans are hillbilly rednecks with shoe sizes larger than their IQ’s. One of the worst player arrest records in the country, the worst looking Georgia team in over 20 years, defense going steadily downhill for last 4-5 years, offense practically non-existant (w/exception of A.J.), one of the most penalized teams in the country in recent years, apparent lack of pride & focus, good recruiting classes, good talent. What does all this mean??? It certainly appears to be a coaching problem…..in fact, Coach BooBoo was the first to start getting heat, but it now appears that the whole coaching staff is in a state of disarray. Bulldog Nation wants a thorough house-cleaning. CMR doesn’t deserve that kind of money for such non-production & under-performance. Maybe if they lose a few more, it will speed up the process.

While I believe CMR has generally done a good job since he has been at UGA, he has obviously made some mistakes as well. It is the head coach’s job to oversee & manage the whole program…..recruiting, coaching, hiring, etc. The state of affairs with the team did not happen overnight and will not get fixed overnight. I believe the head coach should be held responsible for the situation being what it is, and it’s obvious someone has dropped the ball over the last 2-3 years. However, since CMR has done a respectable job during his tenure, I believe he should be given the opportunity to identify & fix the problems……….but I’m afraid Bulldog Nation isn’t going to be patient for very long and needs to at least start seeing some signs of problem-fixing & improvements.

Firing Richt is not the answer! Georgia is suffering from decline and has been for some time. Richt is a good 9-3 coach most years. They will return to 9-3 next year. As far as becoming SEC champions that’s evidently not possible. Bulldogs are lower level SEC team along with Kentucky, Vanderbilt and the Mississippi’s. GA will go 2-10 this year. I know defeat, trust me – I’m a GATOR fan and have now watched the Tide beat us badly twice so I have learned to live with disappointment. After all, it’s just a game
