UGA player: Game-deciding fumble ‘felt like death to me’

(Click here for Mark Richt’s post-game comments.)

BOULDER, Colo. – What Georgia players had to say after their latest loss, 29-27 to Colorado here Saturday night:

Wide receiver A.J. Green on being 1-4: “It’s tough. I’ve never been 1-4 in my life. We’re going to stay together, and we’re going to keep fighting.”

Green on why he left the game in the third quarter: “I was just cramping. A lot of cramping.”

Quarterback Aaron Murray on Caleb King’s fumble in final two minutes: “I don’t know where the guy [defender] came from. I handed the ball off, and it just came out. That’s pretty much how it happened. You can’t blame Caleb King for that. It just happens sometimes. You have to make sure you pick that guy up and he comes out and has a great week at practice.”

Murry on Green’s leaping, one-handed touchdown catch in the second quarter: “That was unbelievable. No other receiver in the nation can make that catch. That was special right there. To go up and catch it with one arm, and bring it down with only one arm, it’s pretty unbelievable.”

Defensive end Demarcus Dobbs on being 1-4: “There’s going to be frustration. We’re Georgia. We never expect ourselves to get four losses. Or lose to the teams we have lost to. We just have to push ahead, and we cannot give up on each other. All we have is each other. We have to watch film, keep grinding and finish the season out, hopefully on a high note.”

Dobbs on the mentality in the locker room: “We just lost a game. Everyone is pretty much down; we thought we were going to come in and ruin their party and get a victory. We thought we were a better team. We didn’t represent Georgia well. We didn’t represent the SEC well. Only people we have to blame are ourselves. We need to watch film, see what we need to correct and make those adjustments, and stick together. We have to be accountable for each other and not give up on the season.”

Dobbs on the fumble on the final drive: “I thought it was a shoo-in; that’s how comfortable I was [about winning the game]. I put my helmet down. I was ready to run on the field and celebrate. But it didn’t happen that way. We made a fatal mistake, and that type of stuff needs to be corrected. We cannot turn the ball over at the end of the game. It felt like death to me. We have to keep grinding and support each other.”

– From transcript provided by Colorado of post-game player interviews.

The Dawgs will turn it around starting this week against UT. I will
revise my prediction to be a 7-5 regular season finish. They will lose only one more game (Auburn or Florida not both). They will win big against UT/Vandy/Idaho State and win close ones against KY/GT. Also, they
will win a mid-tier bowl game to finish 8-5.

Well!! Well!! It seems that this blogs brings out the “Miserable Ones” Those people that only cry and whine and beat up young guys in print. I can imagine if some of you “whiners” were to meet these young guys and spout off to them in person you would be picking your A _ _ off the ground. Get off the kids they are only running the plays called in. You whiners are PATHETIC, if my sons were playing and I heard you speak to them that way I would “hold your nose and kick your A _ _ all the way down Broad Street” Wimps!!!!

Hard to believe or accept but the Dogs are down and even if Florida lost, we still have lost 4 straight. Something has to change. Bobo must at least be removed from calling the plays and Coach R take that position. Coach R must give some indication that he still has the passion to win. Just being cool with his headphones and hair is not enough any more.

You want to bet our AD is not already coming up with a list of names to replace Richt? He may not fire him this year but he may pull the plug and get rid of him. You better believe any recruits wavering between UGA and UF and Bama already made up their mind after last night — they are not coming to UGA. It really is that bad. Even Goff’s offense always worked — his problem was that he could not hire a good DC.

I’ve been a CMR supporter all along but the truth is the program is in trouble, he’s been knocked out, and I don’t see how he can get up from. Arrests, undisciplined play on the field, and lack luster play equals time for a change in my book. Coachs can no longer cry foul once they started agreeing to make millions per year. They are paid to win and run a program that makes the school look good. We are doing neither right now.

Outprepared, outschemed, outcoached. Again.

How focused is this team? When UGA ran on the field for the secon half, am I the only person who saw #81 grab the UGA’s cheerleaders ass as he ran past her? Then the look of shock on her face? Once again, the lack of discipline is obvious. Chek it on your DVR if you recorded it.

I dont understand why everyone is so upset. I’ve been complaining for years now about how this staff coaches down top recruits. Nothing will change as long as that doofus barney fife heads up this program. So accept reality, this is Georgia football – - total lack of discipline, arrests, penalties, turnover, sloppy play, bad decision like going for it on fourth and one on your own 25 yard line in the second quarter when your down by 7 point (remember arkansas). Until someone at the top brings in a top coach, this is what it is. Any wonder why the first three DCs offered the job last year turned it down?

Just look at the difference between the Shula and Saban at Bama.

There’s no discipline on or off the field and it’s embarrassing. Discipline is the responsibility of the coaching staff to instill, sometimes with tough love. CMR has lost control of this team, and inconsistent play-calling from Mike Booboo hasn’t helped. Bottom line the players don’t appear to fear or repect CMR as the program leader (maybe as a good Christian) and his ‘aww shucks’ attitude. Those Christian values aren’t being adopted by many players and explayers arrested for DUI’s, driving on a suspended license, and sexual assault. I hate to say it, but it’s time for a change. We need a coach like Saban (can’t stand the guy), who has a zero tolerance for BS and can strike fear into his players.

Time to regroup and put back the 4-3 defense, Georgia is not the NFL, where they have the players to execute that type of defense. We are trying to run a NFL defense with College calibre players. CMR needs to go back and call the plays, BOBO needs to go back… to wherever he came…If we let CMR go we would be satisifying the masses, but this is not the answer. Some other college would give there left nut to have him, Mars….

Foster Brooks….you make sense. Just like Bobby Cox told the Braves scouting staff; bring me guys with tools but I want character guys in my clubhouse. Does anybody see character guys driving this team in the right direction? I sure don’t! Do we even have team captains anymore? Has the senior class abdicated? THIS IS NOT GEORGIA FOOTBALL

Sure glad McGarity cancelled those tough teams next year and will replace them with some cream puffs, if he can find some UGA can hang with. Gonna be tough to find more La-Lafayette’s. Better not call Ga. State–might be too tough.

Where can the replay of the last drive fumball be seen? I only saw it live, but I thought something else was being set up. If it was a flea flicker and CMR is lieing about it, what does that tell you. Hear he goes again. Blames his players for something that is a coaching problem. I don’t want to hear anymore “good christian man” crap. If he was the “man” his deep supporters like to keep idolizing him for, he would stop blaming his players, take some responsibility, and make drastic changes. None of which will he do until he feels it is the last the he can do to save his job. Any coaching change would be better. Even if the new coach did not do better than CMR is doing now, it would send a much needed message that WE DON”T TOLLERATE THIS. then sooner or later we will find something that works. Look at Alabama, theyt we down ten years and went through several coaches. I don’t neccessarily want to be down for ten years, but it looks like we have already been down for about 5 and it looks like it is only getting worse. Change is inevitable, the question is how long do we want to wait and how far do we let our program slide until we do it?

UT is a less talented team on the surface, but they are disciplined and coached well.
They won that game yesterday – the scoreboard said otherwise, but they won it.
They will bring that same discipline to Athens Saturday. UGA could win, but at this point it’s unlikely.
Where do we go from here?

Tech is not playing much better. There is a fumble epidemic in the state of Georgia. This is not a fun place to live when we don’t win college football game or barely beat a Wake Forest. It is like outlawing barbecue or the Baptist church moving to Utah. Both of us need to get it together, hell I am pulling for Georgia harder than Tech now days.

Amazing how fundamentally unsound UGA is! I havent seen a worse tackling team yet. I have no doubt that UGA has some talent but they all look so lost at times and like they are just going through the motions. UGA needs a Coach that can motivate. Obviously CMR isnt that Coach.

I can not understand why Richt continues to let Bobo call plays. First and goal at the CU 4. Fullback gaines two yards. Then two bonehead play calls. I’m not sure if this guy thinks he’s bulletproof or if he’s just pixxed off at fan reaction and wants us to know that nobody alters King Mark’s strategy….or both.

AJ Green,Cant win with him and cant win without him. Ok so it was not having AJ Green that cost you games, it was the entire squad ! Georgia fans you just lost one of your excuses for losing. What next Black jerseys for Tennessee or All black? Either will be fine as this team is in mourning. Please tell us Georgia fand how though you are 1-4 you will now run the table and play in a BCS game? The fans charges the field because all they heard all weekend were these visiting UGA “Homers ” tell stories of the ole days when we had Hershel Walker and we won a NC , Hell those fans thought they were playing the greatest team in SEC history. Today they may hit the internet only to find out , the team they just beat has a history but its a history of being overrated a 20 year history of consistantly losing to UF and UT. Not a run at a NC since 1980. Georgia get over yourself and start telling us how its going to be so good next year ! Fans remember this. Next year Florida , Tennessee and Auburn as well as Arkansas will be better and you will not be. Your 2nd coming AJ is bolting for the NFL. Your backs will be freshman and the list goes on. CYA GA, its gonna be fun picking on ya !
