UGA player: Game-deciding fumble ‘felt like death to me’

(Click here for Mark Richt’s post-game comments.)

BOULDER, Colo. – What Georgia players had to say after their latest loss, 29-27 to Colorado here Saturday night:

Wide receiver A.J. Green on being 1-4: “It’s tough. I’ve never been 1-4 in my life. We’re going to stay together, and we’re going to keep fighting.”

Green on why he left the game in the third quarter: “I was just cramping. A lot of cramping.”

Quarterback Aaron Murray on Caleb King’s fumble in final two minutes: “I don’t know where the guy [defender] came from. I handed the ball off, and it just came out. That’s pretty much how it happened. You can’t blame Caleb King for that. It just happens sometimes. You have to make sure you pick that guy up and he comes out and has a great week at practice.”

Murry on Green’s leaping, one-handed touchdown catch in the second quarter: “That was unbelievable. No other receiver in the nation can make that catch. That was special right there. To go up and catch it with one arm, and bring it down with only one arm, it’s pretty unbelievable.”

Defensive end Demarcus Dobbs on being 1-4: “There’s going to be frustration. We’re Georgia. We never expect ourselves to get four losses. Or lose to the teams we have lost to. We just have to push ahead, and we cannot give up on each other. All we have is each other. We have to watch film, keep grinding and finish the season out, hopefully on a high note.”

Dobbs on the mentality in the locker room: “We just lost a game. Everyone is pretty much down; we thought we were going to come in and ruin their party and get a victory. We thought we were a better team. We didn’t represent Georgia well. We didn’t represent the SEC well. Only people we have to blame are ourselves. We need to watch film, see what we need to correct and make those adjustments, and stick together. We have to be accountable for each other and not give up on the season.”

Dobbs on the fumble on the final drive: “I thought it was a shoo-in; that’s how comfortable I was [about winning the game]. I put my helmet down. I was ready to run on the field and celebrate. But it didn’t happen that way. We made a fatal mistake, and that type of stuff needs to be corrected. We cannot turn the ball over at the end of the game. It felt like death to me. We have to keep grinding and support each other.”

– From transcript provided by Colorado of post-game player interviews.

Is it bad that I want this team to bottom out and go 3-9 so that Rich can go? The Mark Richt car has driven off the cliff and is officially free falling. The only way this gets better is when he leaves. I don’t understand how a coach can go from 13-1 to this! It’s the craziest most bi-polar damn thing I’ve ever seen. Its unprecedented, it really is!

Except for AJ( who is a freakin human highlight reel) and Murray, everyone else on this team is terrible. A bunch of 3 stars at best! I don’t know what our recruiting department has been doing the last 4-5 years b/c the overall talent on this team is just lousy! Terrible coaching, no identity on offense, zero talent on defense. I’ve seen 3-7 high school teams look better than this! And I feel sorry for whoever is coming in after Richt, because they will have a MAJOR rebuilding project on their hands! I’m talking 2-3 years of rebuilding, like what Tennessee is going through right now! Richt will leave this cupboard completely empty!

Tennessee will drub us by at least 20, maybe more. I see NO sure win remaining on this schedule other than Idaho State. Those who think we have a shot at Florida because they are down this year are self deluded. Mark it down, they will beat us by 35 to 40 points. This team is the worst Georgia team in my lifetime, and there is NO excuse for it. Not rebuilding, injuries, suspensions or bad luck. Just awful coaching (from top to bottom) and, apparently, poor recruiting. Also, someone please tell me how next year will be better? No AJ, losing a bunch of seniors on O line. Time for some soul searching, for sure.

death ?????

that is far from the truth. i know for a fact that there were tens of thousands of yellow jacket fans laughing their A$$es off. rolling in the seats if you will.

you can add steve spurrier and all the sec fans from other schools as well! i am sure that steve was saying ‘ where did all that talent go’? hehehe

colorado fans were happy as were bradey and schultz no doubt.

so death may be a bit of an exaggeration.

personally i think that this is a result of bad karma.

bad karma wrt the most hated/obnoxious fan base in the usa.
bad karma from all those arrests year after year.
bad karma from urinating in the library.
bad karma from littering the campus.
bad karma from the sniffing of a tv’s red panties while driving drunk
bad karma from turning on the sprinklers on the opposing team after a loss.
bad karma from all the cheating ugag did during the uncle vince era

BAD KARMA

gt well could lose to ugag again this year but at 1-4 i am laughing my A@@ off regardless as are countelss 10’s of thousands.

hunker down you lil billy goats yay…………………….

into very average or below average players

Also, bad karma from hiring a black sympathizing, religious missionary, black pandering northerner as head coach. He doesn’t yell at his players, don’t you know. And of course tries to get them into another college when he kicks them off the team (WHEN he kicks them off). Idiots who coddle minorities will never figure out how to form consistently winning football teams. You recruit thugs, you get to work with thugs. Put that in your missionary pipe and smoke it, Richt.

Did anyone else notice the variety of formations and looks Col. Buf. coach, Dan Hawkins(ex. Boise State off. guru) gave the DAWGS. Our defense was having to attempt to make adjustments constantly. We seemed off balanced most of the game. Contrast our offensive play calling. The AJ Green Flanker around was as close to an unpredicted play as we came. The play calling by our coaching staff was standard issue, ten-year-ago- play calling. The other teams seem to be adjusting to new defensive spreads and we aren’t They knew what we were going to do in advance and so does the rest of our competition. It is sad to me……. To Caleb King’s defense, I thought he had a very solid game prior to the fumble. He read his blocks well and ran hard. Hope, he continues to improve.

Shows the class of many UGAers. CMR’s gave UGA a great run. You find a better coach that coaches the whole man, not just the athlete. WE all have our ups and downs .. yes you too! CMR will be winner again. UGA loses him, and he will come back and haunt the Dawgs. The most dangerous attack from all of you is to attack his faith.

Maybe Ole Dan Hawkins was applying for the UGA vacancy that will be coming up after the Idaho Vandel beatdown of the dogs. Then we can fire his azz after two years and keep this train rolling.

Let me splain it to y'all

October 3rd, 2010
11:46 am

OK, here goes: First, I am 62 and a UGA grad and been a fan since 1959. I know of what I speak.

UGA is losing and has been losing for more than this year. Why? UGA has not signed the very physical, strong, tough, nasty defensive linemen and offensive linemen like all the other schools have. See KY, Arkansa, Tennessee, see SC, see Florida and see LSU and see now Auburn, and see Alabama and the entire SEC. UGA is not a typical SEC squad on the lines of scrimmage. Period. UGA was out muscled again by slow, mid western farm boys. This is disgraceful.

The former “high ratings in recruiting” were from signing great kickers or flankers or QBs or punters or skill players ……………..NOT from signing linemen of any worth. We get the lower tier of linemen and the entire world knows htis but Mark Richt. Why?? because it worked in the old FSU in the 90s days with Wake Forest and SOutehrn MIss when FSU played them. Skill player Speed worked in the ACC. If you do not have bulk in the trenches in the SEC you are climing up hill.

Until UGA gets a coaching staff that is aware of this defecit, UGA will continue to get worse and worse. We will wind up around 3-9 or 4-8. That will place us as the worst UAG team since the mid 1950s.

Richt has been guilty of this for about 5 years. Why will all of this get better in 2011? It will not. We will lose at recruiting now because Richt is damaged goods. 2011 will be a carbon copy of 2010 so McGarity needs to pull the plug now and take our licks in recruiting.

Kirby Smart is NOT coming to UGA….he was born in Montgomery, ALABAMA for god’s sake. Just waiting on St. Nick to move on and take over as head coach. Forget about the Boise coach too…Leave beautiful Boise for the Clarke County wastewater plant known as UGA? Slow your roll, UGA, and set your sights lower. Know who you are, and what you are. You are Clemson West. And Tommy Bowden is available…

The obvious question

October 3rd, 2010

The players appeared to be affected by the altitude. It takes at least a week to become acclimated to the lower oxygen levels at a mile above sea level. For players that have never experienced high altitudes, it is very disorienting both mentally and physically. Could explain some of the mistakes.

When you take a program and have some success, and then become complacent, you lose your edge. Once you lose that, you never get it back.

Richt will never again have a great football team at UGA. Good maybe, (if he stays) but not a team that runs with the big boys

The main problem is that the current college game has passed by Richt 90’s era FSU football. It worked for a little while early in this decade. But as Kiffin has said, UGA is the easiest team to prepare for. That’s all you need to know.

And I agree with the previous blogger, we haven’t had a good offensive and defensive line in years…..

FIRE RICHT NOW…

He don’t coach our kids how to NOT fumble

Thats all his fault
We should be winning 11-13 games a year and play for a NC at least every other year.

We recruit awesome players in the USA every year that go to the NFL eventually so we should be in the top 5 every year.

Fire RIcht and go hire Saban now!!!! Offer him $10 a year and he will come…

Georgia is going through the roughest patch in the Mark Richt era, Is that the reason to fire him? Wake up you sorry pathetic so called fans who only want to be around when the good times are rolling. If your not all In please stay the hell out. This is football, this is life. Someone said it earlier. UGA has lost recruiting wars for the last few years and we’re seeing the result.

No play makers on D and with AJ and Murray the the only exceptions, the same on O.

I was at the ARK game and their D ends beat our O line all afternoon causing 6 sacks and other hurries.

I cannot believe all of the comments on here about a flea-flicker. It was a fumble on a basic running play that the team had been running all night. It was a bad exchange. Pure and simple. Get your conspiracy theorist heads out of the clouds. If you want to make arguments about getting rid of the coaching staff, do it based on their actual performance on the field, not based on some nonsensical hypothetical play calling that you want to hang your anger on.

We are getting whipped on the line of scrimmage. I expected this on D, but not the O-line. What has happened? These are big veteran guys. Did you notice there were a couple buffalo’s in the backfield as soon as Caleb got the ball. Why??? And we are still so undisciplined on D. Rambo is the worst!! I don’t know how many times I have seen him out of position this year. I know we have talent, but I don’t understand why they are not playing any better. They look unmotivated, undisciplined and just ready to get the season over. Come on guys!!
