Georgia center Ben Jones benched for first half of tonight’s game
BOULDER, Colo. – Georgia center Ben Jones won’t play in the first half of tonight’s game at Colorado as punishment for a late clipping penalty in last week’s loss at Mississippi State.
Georgia coach Mark Richt and SEC commissioner Mike Slive conferred after reviewing video and agreed a half-game suspension was in order, UGA announced just before the start of tonight’s game.
“It was poor judgment on Ben’s part,” Richt said in a statement. “He feels very badly about the incident and has sent a note of apology to the Mississippi State player. I have talked with [Mississippi State coach] Dan Mullen, and he appreciated the concern and Ben’s apology.”
Jones clipped Mississippi State defensive tackle Fletcher Cox on Georgia’s next-to-last play of last week’s 24-12 loss.
In an interview earlier this week, Jones said: “There was a pass downfield, and I was trailing the play because I didn’t know if it was caught yet. I went to cut a guy downfield because I thought he might make a play, because the ball was still up. [The refs] said it was too far behind the play, and I shouldn’t have done it. At the time I really didn’t think much [about it], but after watching film, I now know I shouldn’t have done it.”

29 to 27 and nothing has changed. UGA football is a total embarrasement to the University and to the SEC. I.m so disappointed in Richt’s failure to solve the solution which has to start with the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach that I wouldn.t care if they forfeited the remainder of the season for failure to compete. I’ve cried enough tears for one season.

Fire Mark Richt and get someone who can get the team up to play like other SEC teams. Even Florida looked better than Georgia has all season and they are getting their tales beat by Alabama. Words can’t express how I feel about how the thugs and street mentality players tried to play football tonight. It’s time for a change. CMR has given up and it’s obvious by the way Georgia has lost 80% of its game this season. Who would have ever thought Georgia football would reach this low?

This is the worst Georgia coached team I have ever seen. A flea flicker? Are you F****iing kidding me? You were moving the ball against a sorry defense and you try a flea flicker. I am of mind to say CMR needs to be fired now. No waiting until the off season. This is as bad as I have seen a UGA program in some time. He has lost total control this program. There is no way he can salvage this season. Not even upsetting UF. This team will most likely be an underdog in every remaining game. From stupid on field mistakes to coordinators in way over their head (Bobo). to the multitude of off field prooblems and arrests… CMR righted the UGA ship coming in, but it is apparrent he is not the man to get UGA over the hump to be a consistent Top 10 team and NC contender. It is sad to see the state that UGA football is in. I for one am glad I am in Afghanastan and can’t see this pitiful display of football. I keep holding out for another win this season, but I won’t be holding my breath.

If Mark Richt’s first call is not to his wife to contact a realtor, I am confused. This is a disgrace! I will provide one statistic for you. At halftime, AJ Green had 7 receptions for 119 yards and 2 touchdowns, along with 40 yards rushing. The game is now over. AJ Green ended the game with 7 receptions, 119 yards and 2 touchdowns, along with 40 yards rushing. Mike Bobo was a joke at quarterback and clearly the worst full season starter to play the position in over 30 years. He is an equally bad offensive coordinator. This all rests with Mark Richt, who has clearly lost control of the program. We look undisciplined and we can not complete a game without making HUGE mistakes.

Toughest times I have ever known as a 40 year dawg fan…I don’t remember it this bad during Golf or Donnan years….I have never seen a team so disfunctional and unable to do anything right. I agree…I think you turn the program over to graduate assistants and let the entire staff go…bring in an interim coach who can bring a drill sargent mentality to get this team under control. Time to take drasticly serious measures.

Disagree with you all who say go for FG, that is problem…they went for the FG on 4th and 2 on the 2…then played for FG at the end…..teams that play for FG’s lose….it is a loser mentality….but agree that the staff must go now, enough is enough…Richt gave us some good years but we are quickly reverting back to where we were when Goff left….Donnan did not leave us in this poor shape when he left…

I hate to beat the drum over and over…but altitude = low humidity and less oxygen = cramps if you don’t drink fluids nearly constantly (even if you aren’t thirsty).
