Georgia center Ben Jones benched for first half of tonight’s game

BOULDER, Colo. – Georgia center Ben Jones won’t play in the first half of tonight’s game at Colorado as punishment for a late clipping penalty in last week’s loss at Mississippi State.

Georgia coach Mark Richt and SEC commissioner Mike Slive conferred after reviewing video and agreed a half-game suspension was in order, UGA announced just before the start of tonight’s game.

“It was poor judgment on Ben’s part,” Richt said in a statement.  “He feels very badly about the incident and has sent a note of apology to the Mississippi State player. I have talked with [Mississippi State coach] Dan Mullen, and he appreciated the concern and Ben’s apology.”

Jones clipped Mississippi State defensive tackle Fletcher Cox on Georgia’s next-to-last play of last week’s 24-12 loss.

In an interview earlier this week, Jones said: “There was a pass downfield, and I was trailing the play because I didn’t know if it was caught yet. I went to cut a guy downfield because I thought he might make a play, because the ball was still up. [The refs] said it was too far behind the play, and I shouldn’t have done it. At the time I really didn’t think much [about it], but after watching film, I now know I shouldn’t have done it.”

I would love to play Auburn this year….We would take that weak azz defense to the woodshed…. Now Bama plays like a pro team…They would definitely hurt the bucks..

But we would take all the rest of the SEC teams to the woodshed….

DJlasitup..look at the play…i agree the play was busted up, but i also think he tried at the last second to spin away, i could be wrong..bottom line he should have hung onto the ball…I don’t blame this call on Coach Richt or Coach Bobo..it just seems our players are making crucial errors at the worst times…I’m afraid this season is going to cost us a lot of recruits whether the Coach is let go or not…We need some players and right now we just don’t have the horses up front on either side of the line…I’m disappointed in our DC, i know he needs to time to the players and needs time for our players to adjust to the 3-4, but the lack of intensity on the defensive side of the ball is discouraging…go dawgs…

Sam G. – Jan Kemp was metally off and ended up trying to become a celebrity thus ruining her family and making a fool out of herself. She had a major ego that she could not control and eventually had to go to a mental facility. She was a sad, pathetic figure. Still I hope she is in Heaven. UGA has had their problems but so has practically every other school in the SEC and Tech has also had legal problems with their athletes. At least the majority of legal offenses at UGA have been for driving without a license, etc. and not violent offenses – with the exception of Mettinberger who was kicked off of the team. Florida and Tennessee have had more serious offenses with their athletes but most of them were allowed to remain on the team. Richt is trying to keep this under control and I don’t think he can be with every player (100+ of them) 24 hours a day. They are old enough to know right from wrong. Unfortunately programs like MTV and Hollywood have a negative influence on kids today – many who do not have a strong family structure from which to learn. It can be argued that three untimely fumbles have led to three of the losses even though the team played poorly in those games. The defense looks lost. I am sure you want a change and I’m not sure if you are for UGA or against them.. Who would you replace Richt with that is better than him? There is also a little problem of an eight million dollar contract that Richt has if they do make a change. Richt hired a new DC under pressure and they thought money would bring whoever they wanted. They had to settle for their 3rd choice and so far that has not worked out but it takes more than a few months to completely change the defense. Personally, I have never been a big fan of the 3-4 defense and I don’t think UGA has the personnel right now to run it. It cannot be ignored that the offense has not played up to it’s billing either. Murray is learning on the job and he has a long way to go. The o-line has definitely been below average so far. Walsh is one of the best field goal kickers around yet he seems to miss the one or two kicks that costs UGA games every year. Nothing is going right now but I am a true supporter of the Dawgs unlike many on this vent who are the enemy disguised as Dawg fans.

Come from behind in the clutch – Again I have to explain your mistatements to you. A.J. Green did not violate any laws and has never been charged with any illegal actions. He violated NCAA rules and was punished for it. UGA should be able to win without A.J. Green.

You’re take on the story is much different than what the courts found:

While coordinator of Georgia’s remedial English program, Dr. Kemp was among several faculty members who had complained that officials at Georgia intervened in the fall of 1981 to enable nine football players to pass a remedial English course in which they had received failing grades. The athletes remained eligible to play for Georgia against Pittsburgh in the Sugar Bowl on New Year’s Day 1982.

Dr. Kemp was demoted in 1982 and dismissed the next year. She filed suit, maintaining that she had been ousted because of her complaints, a violation of her constitutional right to free speech.

In Atlanta Federal Court in January 1986, university officials defended their actions concerning the football players, saying the athletes had been admitted to the regular curriculum because they were making progress in their studies. Dr. Kemp, they said, was dismissed for disruptive conduct and for failure to conduct adequate scholarly research.
The jury found that Dr. Kemp had been dismissed illegally and awarded her more than $2.5 million (later reduced to $1.08 million) for lost wages, mental anguish and punitive damages. She was later reinstated.
The university’s president, Dr. Fred C. Davison, announced his resignation in March 1986. The board of regents of the University System of Georgia issued a report in April implicating Dr. Davison and the Georgia athletic department, headed by Vince Dooley, who was also the football coach, in a pattern of academic abuse in the admission and advancement of student-athletes over the previous four years.

Note that the article said that she was AMONG SEVERAL faculty that had complained. She stood up and did the right thing and was made a pariah for it. Both the courts and the board of regents agreed with her. It is UGA that has the “ego problem that they cannot control” and is “sad and pathetic”.

ITS TIME TO FACE THE FACTS
This was a typical Mark Richt loss…we get 2 touchdowns up he takes his foot off the gas and lets them right back in it to win it.
He’s a great guy if you want to have a Bible Study but as an SEC Coach of the greatest programs in college football (we will rise again) he is a dismal failure.
Richt can’t recruit…(AJ was a lifelong UGA fan and would have gone there anyway (look it up)
Richt only recruits speed, not character, not intelligence, not football knowledge, not dedication …just a Thug mentality, light hitting, fumbling, bunch of Gangsta wannabes who take every opportunity to lead BCS teams in personal fouls and self glorifying victory chest beating usually while standing over an opponent they knocked out of bounds after giving up a first down.
You want a team with no character… recruit players based on speed and nothing else.
Also…If you are too stupid to make an adjustment to your offensive scheme or defensive scheme until halftime you are too stupid to be in the SEC.
If you are too stupid to make an adjustment in personnel, i.e Martinez, Bobo, Cox until the end of the year then you are too stupid to coach in the SEC.
If you are too stupid to think you need a SPECIAL TEAMS strategy you are too stupid to coach in the SEC (when is the last time we rushed a field goal or extra point)

I’m Tired Dog Tired of this pathetic bunch…You don’t scare me with what it was like before Richt…If our politically correct AD hadn’t have gotten caught with some gals panties in his lap you would have some direction and strategy…now the whole program is ruined for this year…Thanks a bunch..
Richt cant manage a program of this size start the search AND START IT IN BOISE!!!!!

JAN KEMP WAS A NUT CASE! SHE WAS ARRESTED AND CONVICTED ON CHARGES RELATED TO CHILD ABDUCTION.

UGA FIRED HER FOR GOOD REASON AND THE LIBERAL COURTS AWARDED HER MONEY FOR NO GOOD REASON. SHE SHOULD HAVE BEEN RUN OUT OF TOWN ON A RAIL! I THINK SHE FINALLY KILLED HER SORRY SELF AND GOOD RIDDANCE!

If you want a preacher get Richt. If you want winning couch get Saban. These so-called top players they bring end are a joke for the most part. I watch high school games locally in Atlanta that are much better.
