Georgia center Ben Jones benched for first half of tonight’s game
BOULDER, Colo. – Georgia center Ben Jones won’t play in the first half of tonight’s game at Colorado as punishment for a late clipping penalty in last week’s loss at Mississippi State.
Georgia coach Mark Richt and SEC commissioner Mike Slive conferred after reviewing video and agreed a half-game suspension was in order, UGA announced just before the start of tonight’s game.
“It was poor judgment on Ben’s part,” Richt said in a statement. “He feels very badly about the incident and has sent a note of apology to the Mississippi State player. I have talked with [Mississippi State coach] Dan Mullen, and he appreciated the concern and Ben’s apology.”
Jones clipped Mississippi State defensive tackle Fletcher Cox on Georgia’s next-to-last play of last week’s 24-12 loss.
In an interview earlier this week, Jones said: “There was a pass downfield, and I was trailing the play because I didn’t know if it was caught yet. I went to cut a guy downfield because I thought he might make a play, because the ball was still up. [The refs] said it was too far behind the play, and I shouldn’t have done it. At the time I really didn’t think much [about it], but after watching film, I now know I shouldn’t have done it.”

No, Sam you are an idiot if you are not on that bandwagon. This is the third straight year Georgia has underachieved and Richt has lost total control of the program. He is a push over and allows the players to walk all over him. There is no discipline on the team on and off the field. We need another direction in leadership. Richt needs to be an offensive coordinator somewhere. He is a good player caller but not a head coach.

Appears last play of the game was possible a flea flicker call. If so I do not understand the call with the best field goal kicker possible in the nation already well within his range. Just run the ball!

You know how many years that this year will set us back. Recruiting will suck for at least three to four years. Arkansas, South Carolina have improved and will compete for recruits. Auburn is better. We are the only one who is worse and we havent played anyone yet. We are screwed. Why did we change to the 3-4? We obviously dont have the personnel to play it. We dont have any running backs. The offensive line hype was a joke. Bobo is a joke. I am puking.

Last week Mike Bobo and I had lunch down in Thomasville at Maryland Fried Chicken. I suggested that he call a flea flicker if the game was winding down and a easy field goal would seal it away. You’ve got to finish a team off with a flourish.

Yes we did play for FG’s…4th and 2 on 2 and we kick, even knowing our D sucks…then we run 4 or 5 plays in a row, that is playing for FG…not going to AJ at all…..Loser mentality produces losses…I defended Richt until last week, but they have got to go….and the D still sucks
