UGA adds Charleston Southern, Georgia Southern to future football schedules

Georgia has added Charleston Southern to its home football schedule for 2014 and Georgia Southern for 2016, UGA associate athletic director Arthur Johnson said this morning.

The Nov. 22, 2014, game will be Georgia’s first ever against Charleston Southern, while the Nov. 19, 2016, game will continue the Bulldogs’ trend of playing Georgia Southern once every four years.

Georgia will pay Charleston Southern $450,000 and Georgia Southern $525,000 for making the trips to Athens.

Both schools are Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA) members.  FCS teams command payouts considerably smaller than Football Bowl  Subdivision (formerly Division I-A) teams. The going rate for getting a FBS team to play in your stadium without demanding a return trip is close to $1 million.

Georgia typically plays one FCS opponent per season.

Charleston Southern played at Florida last season and lost to the Gators 62-3.  Georgia is 4-0 against Georgia Southern; the teams played in 1992, 2000, 2004 and 2008 and also are scheduled to play in 2012.

Hold on all of you ignorant naysayers. Check out the all the door mats that Alabama and Florida play year in and year out. Don’t see nothing about those two although they have won a NC. So quit complaining.

I am soo proud of our school – playing the powder puff teams in the future. What’s up with adding Charleston-Southern and Georgia Southern to the future schedules. If our Dawgs want to be the best team in the nation or ranked up there with respect in other conferences – we NEED to play good, competitive teams outside the SEC. You can crow all you want about how great the SEC is – but if we play the type of schedule that Florida is playing this year or Alabama is playing (which we laugh at) – then who are we to say “we are the best”? Let’s play a USC, Michigan, Ohio State, Texas, Oregon, Nebraska, etc. at least once a year. If we are the superior conference or we (UGA) want to be considered among the top – we need to PLAY SOMEBODY.

I am really embarrassed that UGA has sunk to a level where the new AD feels that it is necessary to GUARANTEE at least 8 wins a season by the OCS being nothing more than Div II cream puffs. What do we have to prove by playing these games?? NOTHING. And then our SEC schedule will only have 2 or 3 real competitive teams – Florida, and maybe TN and Auburn. This is no way to become a TRUE top contender (I have made fun of Florida’s OCS for years). As for me – I am not going to renew my season tickets (holder for 20 years) and pay that kind of money to watch UGA dismantle a Charleston or GA Southern or GA State.

Well thank God McGarity didn’t add any more of the ACC cupcakes to the schedule. Talk about embarrassing, that would be embarrassing.

And if he adds any of the weenies from the Taliban schedule (like S Carolina St, Middle Tn, Kansas (who whipped the taliban of course, LMAOOOO), Jacksonville St, I might have to just wear a mask downtown to hide my face of shame.

I’ve never understood how anyone – even an alumnus – could support and take pride in UGA’s football team. When you look at their history for the past forty years, how can anyone ignore Jan Kemp and the “remedial studies” scam, the Jim Harrick fiasco, the DUIs in the athletic office, the DUIs and other arrests of players, the #1 party school tag (i.e., the most drunk students), the suspensions and outright dismissals, the Fulmer Cup, and on and on?

As disgraceful and humiliating as it is, I don’t see many alums and fans demanding an end to this sordid activity. It sets UGA apart as the kind of school most people abhor, and it’s become an embarrassment to the whole state of Georgia.

Will it never end? Apparently not while Mark Richt is at UGA. Richt is perhaps the biggest hypocrite in the United States. But even with all the cheating and lawlessness that he ignores, he still can’t win the SEC.

So you’re paying him to be BCS champions, but he can’t even win his SEC division. So why do you pay him millions of dollars a year?

Just asking.

P.S.: Are you enjoying the hobnail boots grinding into your face? :-)

UGA folks can brag all you want to about beating Tech in football most years, and that’s perfectly fair. What’s also fair is to point out that with a history of Jan Kemp (Vince Dooley days), Jim Harrick, Damon Evans, and 45 arrests in three years, UGA is truly “The Cesspool of the South,” and is richly deserving of that title. No one outside of Georgia has any respect for UGA or its athletic department, and that is a fact. It has been said many times: “Tech people are proud of their school, Georgia people are proud of their team.” What a legacy to be proud of!

Dawgturd fans can now return to your mobile home parks and resume waiting for your unemployment checks.

And watching those red panties falling from the sky, always a good time-killer for thUGA dawgtards.  :-)  :-)  :-)

Say what you want about Evans, but he had the right idea. Get UGA out to play across the country and “build the brand” as they say in advertising. Not in advertising terms…build their image and earn some respect. Evans had it right. This current move is nothing but a joke. KSU will play football in 2014. In the meantime, maybe UGA can schedule a game with their women’s soccer team.

You know we Dawg fans have to decide what we want. Every school that has won the national championsip in the past five years has employed this scheduling strategy. Would you rather play Arizona State and Oklahoma State and lose and not play for a championship or play these teams, stay healthy and be competitve in the toughest conference and arguably the toughest division in college football and go to Atlanta and win the SEC and play for the NC? Personally I would prefer the latter rather than strut around and talk about what a tough out of conference schedule we played while watching Florida, Alabama and LSU play for a NC!! I PERSONALLY AM TIRED OF THAT. Wise up. We can always toughen up the schedule but let’s face it it has been 30 YEARS since we last played for the NC and haven’t even been close enough to sniff another one. Let McGarrity do what he was brought here to do…help us win championships. Richt didn’t have anything to do with this other than agree with it and smile. Now all he has to do is get us there or get gone.

Jim (not Mora) Georgia doesn’t have to build it’s brand. People all over the country recognize the Super G. We are not Boise State or Fresno State that have ro play anyone anywhere anytime. We don’t play on Thursday night because we already have a recognizable brand. And let’s be truthful here Oregon wanted out of the contract to make it easier to schedule games in the new PAC 12. And I bet you will see them schedule teams not of Georgia’s caliber when they fill those slots we vacated.

Pac Ten Girl: Even as someone like me who followed UGA since grade school, your comments are right on. It was refreshing to see UGA FINALLY travel to play the likes of Arizona State, Colorado, and would have been great to see them play at Oregon. At least teams like LSU, Auburn, and Tennessee don’t have any problem playing Pac-10 teams out west.

Congrats on beating Coastal Carolina and Savannah State. Let me know when your pee-wee football team plays in the SEC, then we can compare schedules with a straight face. Plus, I doubt all the Dawg fans could fit in your ugly stadium anyway.

Now go back to trolling the GSU (that’s Georgia State U, by the way) blogs. How ironic that they’re brand new and already get way more attention than Georgia Southern. And they have a real stadium in a real town. It’s not Athens, but Atlanta beats Statesbore any day of the week.

I bet you didn’t even graduate from UGA but you just hop on the band wagon because you think its the cool thing to do. Speaking of Pee Wee football, UGA should be I-AA then maybe they could win a game this season. Half your stadium is filled with people that didn’t even go to school there and Georgia State has got to borrow a stadium from the Falcons. Atleast Georgia Southern has its own stadium filled with tradition unlike any other in the state.

Look, teams all over the country have buyout games with cupcake teams. Those teams go into those games knowing they’ll get creamed, but a few(App State, anyone?) sometimes win and get national attention that helps their programs.

What we should be discussing is why we continue to settle for a coach who says every year “We want to be competitive in the SEC” instead of “I want to kiss the crystal football”. We also need someone who will treat our athletes like the children they are so we do not have another year with 10 arrested players.

And on the AJ suspension…We are the reason the NCAA has the rule about selling your jersey or anything else you wear or receive. Of all the athletes in NCAA schools across the country, OURS should be more aware of this rule than all others since it was OUR players who sold their bowl rings and got the rule inacted in the first place. He was a fool and hopefully he’s learned from his stupidity.
