Georgia has added Charleston Southern to its home football schedule for 2014 and Georgia Southern for 2016, UGA associate athletic director Arthur Johnson said this morning.
The Nov. 22, 2014, game will be Georgia’s first ever against Charleston Southern, while the Nov. 19, 2016, game will continue the Bulldogs’ trend of playing Georgia Southern once every four years.
Georgia will pay Charleston Southern $450,000 and Georgia Southern $525,000 for making the trips to Athens.
Both schools are Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA) members. FCS teams command payouts considerably smaller than Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly Division I-A) teams. The going rate for getting a FBS team to play in your stadium without demanding a return trip is close to $1 million.
Georgia typically plays one FCS opponent per season.
Charleston Southern played at Florida last season and lost to the Gators 62-3. Georgia is 4-0 against Georgia Southern; the teams played in 1992, 2000, 2004 and 2008 and also are scheduled to play in 2012.

We play in the SEC. Our non-conference schedule should be as easy as possible. There is no more strength of schedule component. The gripers will be the applauders after each of those victories.

We have to play seven home games, we only play six because of the trip to Jacksonville, that is not a home game. Some schools have eight home games. Georgia will be in Colorado in a couple days, some schools are backing out of the home and home series with teams to have that extra home game. Georgia is doing what is average plus they are in the SEC they deserve some cupcakes of their schedule.

To all the Great Big Mouths yapping about how great their schools schedules are, lets take a second look at their little patsy games:
Alabama – GA State (1AA)(bet LeRoy Jordan wants to bury Curry in this game) Real bigggie there Bama…Ga St 1st year of football
Florida – Appalachian St (1AA) (Bet Meyers is happy the QB grad last season)
GT- SC State (1AA) enough said
UGA – ULL (D1) & UGA – Idaho St (D1)
Now at least UGA plays Division 1 Teams…what’s your schools excuse for scheduling 1AA……
GT – Sc State

What gives? I thought the idea, no matter the ultimate outcome was to play the highest level of competition. I was highly looking forward to playing Oregon. Come on Texas plays UCLA and USC and Ohio State; and UGA turns around and plays Charleston Southern. If we want to claim being one of the big DAWGs on the block then we need to step it up and Go after the competition that will ultimately make us better and attract the type of players who will want to come to UGA to be a part of teams playing at the absolute highest level.

I have always defended our fanbase to all of my non-Georgia friends but this blog has changed my stance on that entirely. We DO have the most delusional fan base in the country. You want to win like Florida, Alabama, Ohio State etc… but you do not want to do what they do(what it takes) to do so. Let’s be Georgia and not copy anybody you say. You DAWG fans need to stop complaining about the Georgia-FLorida game being in Jacksonville. Both teams travel and stay in hotels overnight. The stadium is equally filled with fans from both teams, creating a non-home game environment for both teams. Plus….Georgia coming to Jacksonville helps them recruit the Jacksonville area….and you get players from the area as a result. Plus…Florida fans would also love for it to be a home and home game….because Georgia would have very little chance of ever winning in THE SWAMP. Florida has already proven that winning in Athens is not an a challenge. You were clobbered when you came to THE SWAMP. Count your blessings that the game is played in Jacksonville…..and it is a good opportunity to go get drunk so you don’t have to think about your team and program’s problems. Be happy. Don’t worry so much!

With Grantham’s 3-4 D and much better talent, UGA’s D will be one of the best in the SEC–take it to the bank. UF is way down this year on offense and the GA D will shut them down cold. Ga should win 10 or 11 games if Murray can get it going early.

The problem with playing cupcakes (for Tech too) is that they can easily be lose-lose. If you win, you didn’t win by enough points. If you run up the score, you shouldn’t have run up the score. If, heaven forbid, you lose… Yikes.

I know alot of UGA season ticket holders hate playing GSU and I understand totally. As a GSU fan I think it is great for the Eagles to play these games. It provides the program with cash plus added exsposure. Our program has a lot of ties to UGA with ERK plus back in the day when the program started the equipment that was given by UGA to GSU helped get us started. By the way we do play more BCS schools than UGA. We played Navy 3 weeks ago and lost 13-7. It may be surprising to some of you non UGA fans on this blog that are throwing UGA under the bus for playing us that we just might be on your schedule soon. Our schedule includes Bama 11, UGA 12, Fla 13, LSU 14,Georgia Tech (finally) 15, UGA 16. Thanks UGA we enjoy playing the game. One last thing hey Dawg Day Afternoon why don’t you come on down to Statesboro and sit in that ugly stadium and watch our middle school team hang another championship flag on the pole. We do it the right way we play for a championship on the field not by some stupid BCS BS. You are probably just another one of those UGA fans that their mama bought a hat at Wal-Mart or Cracker Barrel who has never attended a class at UGA! Last time I checked GSU’s record 3-1 UGA 1-3

If anything the fans get cheated. GA fans don’t get to see Autzen and UO fans don’t get to see Sanford. This game will be replaced with another top team for Oregon but GA gets screwed with crap. GA fans enjoy your trip to Boulder this year because it will be the last time for a long while you get to travel to another great and unique college atmosphere.

dash 88—last time I checked this is not the GSU blog. Head back to Ludiwici or Porterdale or whatever podunk town you crawled from. Nobody gives a rip about UGA playing GSU. What is this now…6 or 7 coaches since your beloved Erk retired.
Time for McGarity to step-up and play some real competition. It will only make the UGA program stronger. And time to get rid of the bible-thumper of a coach while you are at it. Take the watergirl with you too.
UGA needs a coach who can coach. Not babysit and bible preach to a squad of thugs like A. Green. What did Green really do with the $1k from the jersey sale?
Spring break beer money my a$$. A new diamond stud earring or Hoopty-wheels for his Escalade is more like it.

The reasoning for this move is asinine. It may have worked for UF, but they very rarely lose confernce games they should win. An undefeated or even a 1 loss conference record in the SEC will probably get you in the BCS Championship if you win the conference championship. However, for the last few years UGA has managed to lose at least one (or two) conference games to teams they should not have lost to. If that continues, we may beat up on the cupcakes but we will never be ranked high enough to get to the national championship game even if we somehow win the SEC.
Also from another point of view, this type of scheducling will ensure we get no national TV exposure unless we are playing Bama, UF, LSU or Auburn. Games with Oregon, Texas, Ohio St, etc would generate a lot of national attention. It may not be evident early, but this new scheduling model will hurt recruiting down the road.

2004 UGA 48 GSU 28 (Georgia ranked #3 in the polls and the #5 defense in the country)
2008 UGA 45 GSU 21

Everyone is talking about look at Florida. Yes, look at them. Some may say they had a soft schedule to win their championships. Let’s look at this: They actually won their SEC games. UGA didn’t and don’t. Last 20 yrs, UGA beat UF 3 times. You can play the cupcakes all you want, but if you can’t win that game, you will not be taking a trip to ATL, besides playing Tech.
Someone posted something about S. Carolina. USC plays all the top tier SEC schools every year: Bama, UF, LSU, Tenn, UGA, Razorbacks, Auburn, and Clemson. Also, Kentucky, Miss St. UGA does not play all these schools every year, if they did, it will be heaven help us. They hurried up and got Bama off the schedule.
You can play the powderpuff games and say that’s what the Gators do, but you must win the pivotal game (Florida), before u talk about national championships.
Go Gators!!!!!
