Richt: ‘I understand why everybody’s bent out of shape’

Mark Richt heard the pain of Georgia football fans on his radio call-in show Monday night and, near the end of the hour, said he understands it.

“I appreciate all the fans, even the ones that are really, really hurt and upset and mad, whatever it might be,” Richt said. “Georgia football is great because of the fans, and I understand that.  And I understand why everybody’s bent out of shape.

“I mean, we want our team to win. And when it’s not, everybody wants to know why and they want answers and sometimes they think they’ve got the answers and sometimes they just want to see us do a better job, period, and I understand that and I appreciate that.

“So to all the fans out there: I’m not happy. The boys aren’t happy. Our coaching staff isn’t happy right now. We’re not going to be until we start playing the kind of ball where we can win the games. . . . We’re going to keep banging away until that happens for us. I just hope everybody supports these guys through it all.”

With Georgia on a three-game losing streak for the first time in Richt’s decade as coach, several callers to the weekly show were particularly pointed in their questions and comments.  One caller said: “Coach, I’ve been watching Georgia football for 50 years, and I got to tell you, this program is out of control. Out of control off the field, out of control on the field.”  At that point, the caller’s line suddenly went dead. Another caller asked a two-part question, starting with Georgia’s in-state recruiting before adding, “And how about getting rid of Bobo?” Richt responded to the question about recruiting but ignored the one about offensive coordinator Mike Bobo.

Other callers expressed concerns about the Bulldogs’ tackling, the offensive-line play and tailback Washaun Ealey’s problem with fumbles. One caller called on the players to play harder.  “We do need to play harder,” Richt replied. “I think we’re playing hard, but are we playing as hard as we possibly can?”

Several callers offered support and encouragement to Richt. One said:  “I know you’re the right man for the job.” Another said: “Changing coaches is not the answer. . . .  We know you and the other coaches have not forgotten how to coach.”

One caller told Richt the Bulldogs are “in some uncharted waters” and asked: “As captain of the ship, what are your plans to get this ship back on course?”

“Right now what I’m going to do,” Richt replied, “is I’m going to keep working my tail off like the rest of this staff and these players. And we’re going to stay together, because I promise you if we don’t stick together we’ve got no chance whatsoever.

“We’re going to maintain a positive outlook no matter what happens around us, because that’s the only chance we’ve got to get back on track and get people feeling better about how things are going.”

The boys always have our full support, the coaches not so much. Pay J. Green returning and a pretty favorable schedule make a few wins now very possible, so lets hold our water. Gotta say wasn’t a big fan of Murray, but he is a gamer, just don’t get him killed trying to make things happen. Coach Richt, take over play calling and let Bobo go back to QB coach where he belongs. Maybe I shouldn’t assume he belongs there either. Just saying. Coach Grantham, if your guys who have been playing football all their lives can’t figure out your system, or don’t fit in it, either give someone else a chance or go back to 4-3. It’s not freakin rocket science.

Besides, Richt is doing this on purpose…its all part of the master plan to beat florida haha. Like I always say, 1-11 season with a win against florida and i’m more than happy, so im not gettin upset till after halloween(not gettin my hopes too high either though)

I am mandating an across-the-board moratorium on barking on game day until we are back in at least the top 20 in the nation. I would say top 10, but I know that UGA fans have such an incredibly high tolerance for mediocrity, I’ve decided to not raise the bar to high. We are currently ranked 55 in the nation. Barking in public whether you are in Sanford Stadium, your living room or a sports bar is completely obnoxious and embarrassing for everyone. It will only tarnish the brand at this juncture…So please…Let’s all try to keep a cool head with this one and do what’s right for the organization. You can think about it….but don’t dare do it. So, once the Dawgs are ranked 20 or better, we can resume to the classic Dawg barking cheer and get on with our 29 year journey back to the National Championship. Thank you all for your understanding and compliance with this unpopular, yet responsible decision.

Never confuse actions and results. We aren’t getting the results and that should be what matters. I bet everyone listening to the show works their tails off at their job. The caller who said that the program is out of control is correct. applaud Richt for kicking arrest number 10 off the team but he would not come ot and say their was a zero tolerence policy. Are you kidding me? One kid, two kids arrested does not a pattern make… Ten kids and I believe 40 kids over the last several years..now that’s a disturbing pattern. We either are recruiting thugs or there is a lose of discipline and control. Or both.

This ‘play harder’ racket is always the coach smoke for a weak system.

Richt runs this team as though it were an AAU basketball team – throw the kids out there and tell them to make something happen.

We need a system. We need players to do a job when they get out there.

When the players and the assistant coaches all underperform, it points to one guy.

How about paying hard earned money to see this product on the field? Imagine if we went to the boss who called us in and said you just aren’t producing and we said but…I am working my tail off? Think that would fly? The road to %$#@ is paved with good intentions. Don’t confuse work and results. Maybe Richt and staff are working on the wrong things? The caller who suggested the program was out of control was right. No discipline off the field translates to no discipline on the field. 10 arrests this year and something like 40 in the past several? How can any other conclusion be made than a loss of contriol? Please! Let’s not forget that these young men on the football field are not just at UGA to play ball. They are students first and foremost. So we may lose a few football games. It isn’t the end of the world! We are only invited guests because college football is for our entertainment. These players are students and must also focus on attending classes. Has anyone considered their games may be off because of concerns with their education? Everyone needs to take a breath and give these kids a break. I would rather them lose a football game than jeopardize their educational goals.

I think Richt is sincere, but how do you coach a bunch of thuggs? More w–ite women and side money? He has gotten himself into a mess—although, I think Florida hides their problems off the field and probably does not talk to the press about alot of it because I know it goes on there. Again, you have to establish the running game in the SEC and for some strange reason Georgia will not embrace a strong running attack. And as we all know without a strong defense in the SEC you are toast. Good luck to the Bulldog Nation and maybe the ball will bounce in a different direction soon. Sometimes God puts us in these places to see what we are made of——–do you have the will to win?

Spike, you are right if we can somehow suck it up and stick it out. Let the coaching changes take place at the end of the season, after some real hard searching for the right coach and coaches, HC or otherwise. The selection process is much more important than knee-jerk reactions to a really bad situation. Then there is always player recruiting to deal with.

Mark Richt will right the ship…..at least I hope so. Its nice to see a lot of these people who’ve road the bandwagon are bailing. True Dawg fans support the team through adversity. The defense is keeping us in games, if we can just get a lead the playbook will open up and the players won’t play timid or afraid of making a mistake. The offense’s point production has really limited the defense’s room for error and allowed the opposing team to keep the pressure on us and offensive playbook wide open. WM defense cost us games, so far Grantham’s has kept it close. GO DAWGS!

While it is hard to believe we are where we are, I still think CMR should be given another year to turn it around. No doubt he took an overseer position and it has burned him. That said, how many of us hold ourselves to the same standard we are holding him to. While I hope he can right the wrong I don’t see how. Alabama has a good qb, two stud backs, and an all american wideout. We have a red shirt freshmen qb, two average backs, and our all american hasn’t seen the field. Face it, we don’t have the tallent and that is on CMR. I would rather give him another year less we forget Goff and Donahann.

The end is inevitable. The only question is when. McGarity needs to understand that Georgia is still Georgia. This fan base while irrational in it’s expectations is equally venomous when it comes to turning on a coach. I know of no example where a coach has lost the faith of his fan base in the SEC and recovered to lead his troops to greatness. He’s done, Kaput, finis, stick a fork in him. The Emporer has no clothes and he’s flailing about trying to grab a life preserver and the great Georgia fans as always are throwing concrete blocks at his head when he bobs up.

Jacques Strap, It’s hard not to agree, but I know the man hasn’t forgotten how to coach. I don’t know all the X’s and O’s but it’s apparent we don’t have the players. Like I said it isn’t going to be easy but I think CMR should be given the benefit of the doubt.
Just two years ago we scored 35 to 45 points a game. Staff and Kno (good players) can make any cordinator look good is my point.

Here’s the bottom line, Florida lost 11 players last year to the NFL that were better than any player Georgia has, except Pay J Green. If you have noticed the Gators are playing at a much higher level than the dawgs. What’s the difference, COACHING! Richt is a fine man but he has no fire, he sounds more like a preacher than a football coach.

I assure if he is fired, he will never be a head coach again and lucky if someone hires him to be a QB coach and Bobo, come on, who would hire that clown?

If CMR were the CEO of a publically held corporation , he would do the following at this point :
1)Meet with the Chairman of the Board (McGarity) and committ to 3 wins in the next 4 games.
2)If this doesn’t happen, CMR would agree to submit his resignation to the AD at that time for consideration. McGarity would either accept his resignation after 8 games or wait until the end of the year to reconsider.

Promises, promises… we have to respect ball security; cut down on penalties; cut out off field arrests; play smarter, etc. CMR is a good man with integrity whom I have been proud of to lead our team for 10 years. Unfortinately he has lost control of the team and appears lost when trying to evaluate talent and (lack of) coaching. If we do change coaches and get nothing but dedicated , disciplined young men who put the team ahead of me and don’t embarrass themselves or their school, we will have have earned a measure of respect and we can go from there.

Funny how all you Dawg fans make up all those excuses for your slightly above average coach. Yall say we don’t have the talent that other SEC teams have. HUM BUG! Year after year UGA is blessed with a top tier recruitment class. What happens to all of this talent? Year after year they fall below expectations and never can win a big SEC game. Face it Dawg fans yall are stuck at being mediocre and will always be as long as you continue to hire mediocre coaches. Ray Goff was bad, Mark Ricth is mediocre. Good coaching starts with discipline. He can’t control his players on or off the field. On the field, they are the most penalized team in the SEC, off the field they have the most arrests of any team in the SEC. Nobody cares what his overall record is. Ask him what his record is against opponents ranked first to 15. However, what are your options? There’s slim pickings out there when it comes to finding a coach that can win in the SEC.

“Uh coach can you address the line play of both the offensive and defensive units as well as the RB, and perhaps the WRs too. I’ll hang up and listen you your answer, and please have a specific plan for those areas that you can discuss in 90 seconds”

He obviously doesn’t understand because when people have been telling him for years that his DC was in over his head, he ignored them until finally firing the three coaches. When people have said his offense is pedestrian and that his OC wasn’t an elite coach, he has ignored them. When people said his team plays undisciplined and without passion and poor tackling, he has ignored them. It’s plain and simple pride.

Outsider’s observation – I posted here back in the spring an observation that I had about Ga. football. In a recent Bobby Bowden interview, he said that if he had it to do over again, he would recruit differently. I think THAT, is Ga’s problem. We watched SC do the same thing under Holtz. That is, worrying more about the stars on the stat sheet than the character of the player and their ability to perform in your system.

Great coaches motivate. Great coaches have their team prepared (mentally and physically) to play every week. Great coaches look at the talent they have, and conform their “system” to accentuate what their players do well. This coaching staff does not do any of that. UGA needs to have a great coach if they hope to compete in the SEC.

What kind of specific plans would I like to hear AltamahaDawg? Oh gee golly I don’t know. Maybe something along the lines of “here’s what were going to do so we don’t finish 1-11.”. He doesn’t need a chalkboard. He just needs to explain his plan beyond just empty cliched coachspeak. Like it or not, public relations is part of the job. Look arond you. People aren’t happy. Amazing: we criticize the coaching and we are called “fair weather fans”. I don’t think so: we are passionate and tired of mediocre coaching for guys who get paid a lot of money. But I do wish UGA fans would stop doing one thing: quit calling our players “thugs”. We do have some outstanding young men on the team and they do not deserve to be called names. How many of you have had a “DUI” before — does that mean you are a “thug”?

Did anyone else sense that the calls were being screened. The gentleman that was saying the program was out of control was abruptly cut off. Later when a caller was speaking CMR said “i’ll let you know” and told the caller to continue. I got the feeling someone was there with his finger on the disconnect swtich and CMR was telling him he would let him know if he wanted the caller disconnected. Did anyone else sense that?

The problem goes a little farther back than most are considering. Even when the program was winning a few years ago, they relied on gimmicks to help like blackouts, sending all the players on the field, etc.. Can you imagine Saban allowing or encouraging gimmicks like this?

I have tried to stay out of this, not really knowing what to say. However, it is hard and therefore I will throw a little something on the table.
Not one of the bloggers above has centered on recruiting. There are many, and I emphasize many, young men that are recruited by our opponents that we don’t even offer. I keep up with recruiting daily, and I just don’t understand. Now, if a kid is offered by say Bama, and we don’t because of off field issues, then he goes to play for Nick Saban, why doesn’t he continue with his off field issues? I would guess everyone reading this knows – Saban isn’t going to stand for it! The kid is probably told from the beginning that if you want to play for Alabama, you will follow the rules or you may never get to the NFL.
We reside in the fourth richest recruiting state in the USA, yet way too many of our best go elsewhere. We can’t get them all, but we can sure get more of them with discipline and guidance. From this comes results. I don’t think enough of these kids at UGA want to get to the league, or at least they don’t want to pay the price to get there. If they don’t bust it on the field, they get overlooked. If they get overlooked, the luxury SUV’s and homes will be merely a dream. How many NFL scouts are paying attention to those players that don’t bust it?
Discipline has got to be instilled, beginning today. Those of us that have it, are walking and working as free men. Those that don’t, are most probably in jail.

Kelin Johnson the analyst and former Uga player blamed our lack of talented recruits on the likes on Kentucky and Vandy getting our recruits.He said the top recruits dont want to come to UGA and compete with the starting talent here,they wont a chance to play now. Interesting-didnt know we had such talent at UGA-I guess the exception is AJ Green.

I watched Blake Sims of Gainesville last year who signed with Bama in the state playoffs and dont understand why he was only a 3 star. He was the best High School Football player I have seen in 57 years. Someone asked him why he signed with Bama and he said, “I always grew up a Dawg but they didn’t recruit me until after I had committed to Alabama.”

The reality is that the team needs a win badly. That starts Saturday. Anything beyond that, no one knows.

You have to win games and Colorado is the next one.

If you look back at Richt’s tenure, we have beaten a couple of teams that we were not supposed to beat. Auburn 2006 comes to mind.

In my opinion, for Richt to really get a shot next year and beyond, he needs another win like that this year.

Unfortunately, they can’t beat anybody right now.
If they are able to pull off 3 in a row and maybe win in Lexington, unfortunately the candidates for beat somebody they aren’t supposed to beat begins with Florida.

Don’t think for a minute he didn’t learn and have a vital role in the firing of the Zooker and also the womens basketball and men’s baseball coaches in recent years. McGarity said the team is acting like they’re 4-0, for attitude’s sake. I think they should approach every game like they’re 14 points down (behind) from the start. If they would have played the entire Miss. St. game like they did in the 4th quarter of the Arkansas game, they would have beaten them.

The Dawgs performance (and playbook) should be wide open every down, like playing from behind. They can win a number of games this season if they’ll just play wide open with passion… the entire game. Theirs game plan (and play) are too conservative and laid back – until they get behind. Go Dawgs… still believing in you!

I have no doubt Richt, as well as Bobo are “working their tails off.”

If Bill Gates put me in charge of Microsoft today, I would work my tail off, too. I just wouldn’t know where to start.

UGA’s offensive problems didn’t just start this season. I have been harping since ‘08 that the better teams in the SEC were stopping the Bobo/Richt offense cold. In ‘09, it became mid-level teams that stopped our O (OK State, LSU, UT, KY, as well as UF). Now, it’s everbody in the conference.

Other SEC teams are flourishing with the spread offense (or parts of it), and UGA is, according to Lane Kiffin, “the easiest team on our schedule to prepare for. They are running the same stuff they’ve been running for 10 years.”) He said that the week before his mediocre UT team held Bobo/Richt to 3 points.

If other DCs know what were gonna run, the only time we will consistantly move the ball is when we have overwhelming talent. And we only play Louisiana Lafayette once.

Richt is unfortunately showing the same hardheadedness on the Bobo issue as he did with Martinez the previous years, when he was the last person in the world to figure out or acknowledge his D had a problem.

If he stalls like that with Bobo, it may eventually cost them both a job. If he demotes Bobo and takes over the playcalling til the end of the year, then goes and gets him a new OC from the NFL, it would save them both.

I’m sure Pres Adams and Greg McGarity both watched the Miss State game. I’m pretty sure they watched the pathetic playcalling, endless 3-and-outs, the sequences of: 1st and 10 – run up the middle, 2nd and 11 – run up the middle, 3rd and 12, pass play (when everybody in the stadium knowing it was a pass play), and thought, what the hell is Bobo doing?

Richt needs to stop defending the indefensible.

Be careful what you wish for.
Changing coaches isnt the “quick fix”. Look at Tenn or any other school that has recently changed staffs. It can set you back 3 to 4 years (or more). Are you ready for that???
Not to mention that MANY of the great recruits who have verbally committed have already said that they would NOT come to Gerogia if their was a head coaching change.
Richt SHOULD demote Bobo and call the plays for the rest of the season and let’s see where we are at then. Richt’s offense at FSU was always good. The first few years at UGA (while Richt was calling plays) were good. I think Bobo is the problem. The play calls are SO PREDICTABLE that my 9 year old son knows what play we are going to run and I can assure you, if he knows then the D coordinator of our oppnent is 2 steps ahead. Aaron Murray was the #1 qb comming out of HS for a reason but for some reason Bobo is still calling plays like we have Hershel Walker or Knowshon Moreno in the backfield! WE DONT!! Call plays to our strength which now happens to be our passing game! We run on 1st and second down then pass on third and long EVERY series! Do the opposite of what the D thinks you are going to do. Seems pretty easy to me.

Mark Richt on the call in show is not going to answer any questions about Bobo. Caller should have known better. Mark’s loyalty to his coaches is evident in the example of Willie Martinez.
With a new AD in house now this loyalty may come to an end.
One question I have as a fan and season ticket holder of 30 plus years is why is the talent we recruit not being coached up?
Logan Grey – Number 1 player out of the state of Mizzou.
Marlon Brown – Number 1 player out of the state of Tenn.
Geathers- Number 1 D player from the state of S>C>
Ealey- Number 1 player from the State of GA.
Branden Smith- Number 1 D player from the state of GA.
A.J. Green – number 1 reciever from the state of S.C.
Orson Charles- Top 5 player out of Fla. by the way has been thrown to 4 times in 4 games.
Caleb King- States number 1 running back
Burnett- number 1 lineman from the State of Ga.
You could go on and on listing the top recruits we’ve gotten the past few years that somehow we’ve not coached up.
These players don’t come out of high school and forget how to play.
Forgot to mention Ken Malcome the running back that’s probably being redshirted,
Arron White- 1 pass this season.
These kids pratice hard and play hard, but at times our whole team looks like they are simply not prepared.
The answer from the coaching staff when a player is not being used in a game is “They haven’t learned the system yet”

One big thing that hurts Mark in recruiting is he fails to realize these studs in Georgia HS Football high school players have huge ego’s ( like it or not, but it’s there) and Mark per say doesn’t. Blake Simms at Gainesville is going to Bama because he got no love from UGA. Laugh at Auburn with the Limo thing all you want, but these are 17 year old kids, and that impresses them. Mark thinks he can sit around and watch and wait on these kids……then it’s to late…..Simms grew up a Bulldog….He’s going to Bama. His quote, not mine.

We have a great D coordinator who has installed a NEW scheme and is in his first year on the job.
Geesh, give him some time to get things right and to have a draft class where he is hand picking players that fit his scheme! Richt is a good head coach. Richt’s goal has been to recruit and reform troubled youth, like Odell Thurman and the poster child, Randy Moss at FSU, who couldn’t make spring practice because he was in jail. The defense is confused. When you have receivers as wide open as they have been sometimes, that is not somebody getting beat, that’s somebody out of position. The system has not been learned so they are having to think before reacting and you just can’t do that. I’m not saying the 3-4 won’t work, just that these guys haven’t learned it. Something that I do not think that anyone has addressed. The “Locking down the Borders” on Georgia Recruiting within the state. Coach Richt had that attitude when he first came to UGA of doing just that but over the past 5 years he has seemingly abandoned the concept. He and his staff have seemed to be trying to model after USC/California national approach to forming their football team. I say, “IF WE KEEP OUR INSTATE TALENT, WE DO NOT NEED TO RECRUIT OUTSIDE THE STATE TO WIN AN SEC CONFER. OR NC!!!!” Coach Richt, the GA boys within our state, I believe, think that you do not have any loyaity to the HS players in our great state. Without our state’s talent, where would AUBURN BE? The Floridas and Bamas of the world do not “rebuild”. UGA is always rebuilding. Yeah, next year we are gonna be great, then next year never comes. Also, blocking and tackling remain the same no matter what the play called may be. You block and tackle. These guys have been playing football every fall since the 8th grade, and suddenly they are confused? Every team loses key players, every team has “young guys”, but the winners keep winning.

I don’t understand what games you people are watching. The problem is the offensive line. They can’t open holes and they haven’t been able to for 3-5 years. Richt did replace the last O-line coach but the replacement turned out to be a dud. Unless the linemen are physically weaker than they should be, Stacey Searels hasn’t done his job. The offensive line is the liability of this team.

I only saw 1 run where Ealey didn’t get touched until he got to the second level. The commentators praised the line’s blocking but it was really a blown call/assignment by MSU (Cordy Glenn didn’t have anyone to block on the play). The rest of the game was our RB trying to break tackles at the line of scrimmage. Carlton Thomas made a few cutbacks for nice runs but if MSU doesn’t overpursue, those runs go nowhere.

You have to be able to run the ball on offense to soften the defense for the pass. You cannot throw the ball 80% of the time. UGA cannot run the ball, period.

A lot of the GT players come from the same roots, so it is not suprising that every other game, GT emulates the Dawgs’ attitude.

Did you see the SC game the other day? Steve Superior benched Garcia and put in Shaw (a freshman) at the end of the game – just because Garcia fumbled a couple of times.

What does Richt do with Ealey? Now there is the diff in leadership.!!

Richt is held hostage by the players’ bad attitudes and he coddles these guys! Hey Richt, this is not a pyjama party, and your players are not wearing baby dolls? (at least I hope not)

I listened to the show last night. When the callers got “too” negative, they got cut off. And then Richt wouldn’t comment on what they did get to say before being cut off. The callers didn’t use any bad language or anything, it was just the truth on some matters that Richt didn’t want to respond to.

So he fails to address the callers just like he fails to address the problems on the field and on the coaching staff.

This program is in chaos and on a downward spiral. If Colorado scores first, I think things will unravel and the game will go downhill fast.

Of course the idiot Richt will defer if we win the coin toss and give the opponent the opportunity to score first and gain the advantage(like he always does). So look for Colorado to get the ball first no matter what. If they score first(like Miss St did), the game is going downhill
fast and I predict another loss.

Over the next couple of UGA home games, AD Greg McGarity will be talking with and listening to the influential $$$ alumni. He will also be looking to see the stands and how full or empty they are at kick off and how quickly they might empty out if there is a bad game.

UGA is in deep trouble. The alumni for the most part have bailed on CMR and his era. They appreciate the first five years but they also recognize that the SEC is far superior in coaching talent than 7 or 8 or 9 years ago. UGA in their eyes has not kept up with the ferocious recruiting here in Georgia ………………and they know that it has hurt UGA. They want to know …………why???

The alumni expect UGA every year to have a stable of high quality running backs and big, beefy, nasty, strong linemen. This has been the basic staple of UGA football for 50-60 years. We do not and they want to know why??

This year is not the year that fans look the other way. That year was 2009. This year they expected a minimum of 8 or 9 regular season wins …………… not to lose just about all of our SEC games going over two years. This one fact is simply too much for the UGA fans to take anymore.

Richt is in deep trouble. Recruits? Well, come to UGA if you want to represent your state and if that is not good enough ……………..sign somewhere else. UGA will not be held hostage to the argument that if we let Richt resign or fire him that so and so will not come play. No, that is exactly the tail wagging this dog and we have seen too much of that crap lately at UGA.

I believe Richt’s window of opportunity to make some changes is getting smaller and may close this Sat. Even then it may be too little, too late. He could have done himself justice be making some in-house changes effective Monday morning to address the lack of offense this team has produced. By making a few changes and winning some games he may be able to preserve his and or the job of his staff. But I would think the writing is on the wall that if Richt don’t do something, someone else will and it will not be pretty. Richt is a lot like Bill Curry and Mike Shula good coaches but not ready for a big time program. While you could spent all day finding fault in the position coaches and coordinators the underlying factor is they are working under Richt’s direction to implement his system. How long did we suffer under Willie’s Defense? Yet, year after year nothing changed. If Richt was doing his job Willies soft defense would have changed and Richt would have saved his job and we would have won more games. Bobo is running Richt’s system, Richt said before the season started that he was getting more involved with the offense and look where we are at. No sir, I think the writing is on the wall if Richt isn’t gone this year he will be next year.

How it is so unbelieveable to some folks that they actually screen calls on a radio show that is going to be air on a public airwaves? I kinda think they have an FCC responsibility to do that, don’t you?

Aside from the fact that some of us actually DO want the the team to get better, the staff to stay committed to winning (or trying to anyway), and oh, good recruits to come to Georgia, so letting any knucklehead spout off his frustration because somebody stepped on his ego, isn’t really going to be very helpfull to those ends. Any fan/booster with an ounce of influence doesn’t need to express thier concerns or get actual information on a silly call-in show.

ga gator…my apologies i should have made sure before i posted…i went back and reread your posts…sometimes its easy on here to make that mistake when people have similare handles (see Dawgster)…I believe TampaGator thought he had several conversations with me because of that handle..just to clarify again, i never predicted an NC for us…i knew we were not in that class as of now, but i did expect better than this…On another note, i agree with you on Blake Sims, seen him play many times and still do not understand why we didn’t go after him…i’ve heard several explanations regarding, things such as grades, what position he would play, etc..but still i think a huge blunder on the dawgs part…thats all i can say about it…again my apologies for the mix up…

I don’t like saying this, but Mark is more worried about Bobo’s family and well being than UGA football success…………..If that was not true, Bobo would be gone…….. There is a place for all that caring, but making 3 mil a year and to put the best product on the field you can is not the place for “protecting” Staff………….I think ALL dawg fans would give Mark a bad year to overcome, But this slide in performance is picking up speed, and not slowing down.

McGarity may be already attempting to correct the wrongs of the program. It started with the cancelation of the Oregon series. Where Evans wanted a “National Brand”, McGarity simply understands you can be a national brand like Florida by doing more with less of a schedule.

You can lock your boarders down easier if you add that debated 7th home game against a Citadel. You when a few of the big games, beat the cup cakes and can consistently win 10 games your boarders will get tighter.

I’m not happy with a 1 – 3 record but I’m a Bulldog supporter. Coach Richt and his staff are working overdrive to improve the team and fix the problems. I’m going to stand behind them and support the team the rest of the season. The main problem is the lack of a decent running game. The offensive line has been dissapointing and we don’t have a great running back. The defense plays good most of the time but they give up a couple of big plays a game and those mistakes have been costly. Maybe they are still learning their assignments in the new defense, I don’t know. I thought that Grantham was good hire but things haven’t progressed as hoped for. Coach Richt is a classy guy and a good coach. I’m supporting hin and the players while they work out the problems and they will work out the problems. Richt has shown that he will make the changes that are necessary.

I’ve never had the opportunity to sit down and chat with Mark Richt about his beliefs, philosophy, business vision or anything else. So all I can do is go by the results of what I have observed. This program as has been stated many times by astute people, started showing signs of problems in 2006. Things were masked by stars in 07, and 08 as far as our record. Homers continued to look in the rear view mirror at CMR’s success, as some still do. Folks, it’s like living in a house, once the foundation goes, everthing starts sinking, eventully the roof sags and collapses. Guess what, the roof just feel in. Keep supporting this program as is and the sinkhole will appear. Sip some more Kool Aid, put on those rose colored glasses, and bury your head a little deeper in the sand.

I continue to see blind support and loyalty for dismal productivity from a lot of you. I’m now three generations old Zeb, but my heart still a lot of spirit, and there’s a fire in my belly. I’m used to working hard for what I’ve got, my parents instilled those character traits. When I read tirades like Jiggy’s, it just makes me wonder. We’re talking about a game here, no doubt. But we’re also talking about a business. If we’re going to be in business and pay someone big bucks to run that business, then we will demand accountability.

What this team really needs is to be broken, and retrained. The players are in control of this program. CMR would do well to run a Marine style boot camp at this point. His problem is that he’s nurtured such a group of “prima donnas” they wouldn’t respond to it. At this point I personally don’t give a damn how many recruits we lose.

CMR has lost this program people. He’s lost the players, they won’t say so of course, just like he hasn’t addressed the problems he faces. He’s lost the confidence of the fans, at least most of us. He’s lost the confidence of the experts in the sports nations. The odds are so great at this point against his successful attempt to rebuild this program I don’t think he can do it.

And Finally Again, “you can’t remove with logic with what logic didn’t put there in the first place”. CMR has built a feel good family at UGA, where everyone has the warm fuzzies. Why don’t we feel so good if everything is so “warm and fuzzy”. Good day Dawgs.

If I were CMR I would have pulled a Spurrier(by being painfully honest) and said that the talent level at UGA is not where it normally is. I would have said the O Line is weak and feeble and the special teams is slow and boring. I would have also said that our defense is small and not ready to contend for an SEC East crown anytime soon. It’s the truth and everyone in the SEC knows it…. So just be honest and get it out there. The truth hurts but it needs to be said.

JB, in fairness and I try to be frank and fair in my assessments, don’t believe 90% of what you hear at this point. If I don’t hear it first hand, then in my experience it’s usually been spun or misinterpreted by the person passing it on.

I was listening to who else, Finebaum, yesterday while driving around doing my business, and majority of his show, when I was listening was centered on CMR. This isn’t just a local story, Brando, from CBS, etc. No one wants CMR to crash, it’s just the nature of the beast.

And Altamaha, he should be more specific if he’s genuine. Tell people straight up, I’ve failed, and I plan to address our discipline issues, I plan to address our strength and conditioning program, I plan to make sure we’ve got the right people in place to address coaching issues, I plan to continue to reevaluate myself to make sure I’m doing all I can to help my coaches. This isn’t rocket science, it’s damage control 101. His stubbornness, arrogance, or ignorance, don’t know which it is will be his undoing, along with the current ineptitude.

The problem starts with Rodney Garner. Yeah, he recruits 4 & 5 star guys but NONE of them have been leaders. We have no leadership on either side of the ball and it has been that way since Pollack/Greene. Once we ge those recruits, we don’t seem to toughen them up. The strength and conditioning coaches should be feared by players not best friends. Good riddance to Van Halanger and Garner. Someone needs to tell these guys that this is tackle football not two handed touch. Watch films of the Bears/Greenbay game last night and that’s how you tackle. Lowering your shoulder and hoping the ball carrier goes down doesn’t cut it even in Peewee football. Ever heard of wraping up and driving them into the dirt? By the way, take Bobo with you. He was a pitiful QB and now he’s calling plays? Maybe that’s why our field goal unit is so good.

Let me ask this Question, which year would you have fired Coach Dooley when he had bad seasons? Because he had more than Coach Richt, with fans like yall UGA would never have had a National Championship. Yes Georgia has been in the hunt for a national title a couple of years (stafford, Moreno years) But when you don’t win it you have a couple of down years. But richts down years were never really that bad. So please quit all your whining and crybabying we will go back to the top. Ask yourself how many years before richt came did you finish the season in the top ten? You know, as bad as it is, and I’ve seen worse in Athens, it still beats having to sit in a stadium in Atlanta, where the ticket booth operators have to report on Gameday, to try and sell tickets to anyone they can persuade to come in and watch their high school offense led by their “heisman” trophy candidate QB attempt to beat some inferior ACC team. Yep———–I’d rather watch paint dry than be subjected to the nerds doing their “whiteout”.
Trust me————and Tech fans know this—————this situation in Athens will come to an end SOON. UGA will once more get their act together————–but Tech————————–Hell, not even Saban or Meyer could do anything for that program. 100 years from now——–one will still be able to walk up and buy a ticket to a game in Atlanta from the ticket booth. Georgia will rise again———take it to the bank.

schedule Colorado School of the Blind two years to go along with cupcakes Vandy and KY. He ( I hate to say it) owns Tech. There’s four guaranteed wins every year. He just has to prepare for only 3 or 4 more games because he knows this crowd always accepts 3 or 4 loses. This is the program and its time that the fan base understands it. Its not hard to figure out.

Olddawg: I beg to differ. You may be in love with the hedges scene but when I went to Columbia for the SC-UGA game this year you would not have known that SC had an opponent. I have always heard that UGA “travels well” but dawg fans were dead that day. I was shocked. Not a peep. Nothing.
I’ve seen more enthusiasm at Braves games. I know UGA lost but thats no excuse.
At Tech, I know our stadium is small and that we have vacant seats but our fans are at least alive. SEC football isn’t the experience that your guys want everybody else to think it is.

Personally, I wouldn’t have cared if this turned out to be a 10 wins or more season (which it obviously won’t) if we lose to Florida again, especially if we’re going to be humiliated in the process. If Richt isn’t the guy to beat UF, then find someone who can.

In fact, if Richt ever wins another SEC Championship and loses to Florida that year (again), give the rings back (or sell them on Ebay).

People compare Richt to Dooley favorable, mostly because of overall winning percentage. Putting aside for a minute the fact that Dooley didn’t face two lower-division or non-BCS conference gimme wins every year, Dooley had a great record against the teams Georgia fans wanted to beat the most, especially Florida. I’d rather have a 8-4 season with a win over Florida than be 10-2 or 9-3 with a loss to those SOBs, especially when we don’t even put up a fight half the time.

If UGA has to change coaches every 3-4 years, FIND SOMEONE WHO WILL STAND UP TO FLORIDA.

I don’t think the fans are “bent out of shape” they are just tired of listening to Richt’s alibis and excuses. He never comes up with solutions, just excuses. Never once have I heard him say emphatically that he is going to correct something, instead he is constantly saying we are going to address the problem or we are going to work on it, or we are going to work out tails off. Why doesn’t he say just one time “It will be corrected” The reason I think he never says this is because he doesn’t have a clue how to correct the problem as matter of fact I think he is clueless to about everything!!!!!

Mr.Maniac——-it is I who begs to differ——for I too have been to Tech games, and it’s pathetic. How many times have I witnessed those “alive” fans empty the stadium in the 3rd quarter. As far as SEC football being “the experience”, that it claims to be———-compare records from any conference to the SEC’s ,and I think it will speak for itself. SEC football is simply the best. On that note——–I’ll concede that ACC basketball is simply the best. As for the South Carolina game————well there just wasn’t a whole lot to cheer for in that game. Things will change though———-it’s money in the bank for sure.

We could go back and forth for years on this. Some who think Richt is fine and needs time, and some who see trends and are disturbed this staff gets paid to underperform.

I have one simple pondering question for everyone. Should this, or any coaching staff be competent enough to know, by looking at this team in practice and during spring/summer drills, how it would perform on Saturdays

Didn’t they see this coming? With all the wonderfull experience they have watching this “winning” talent Richt has coached since ‘01, shouldn’t the glaring weaknesses we see now on Saturdays show in summer camp? How come these problem areas weren’t addressed prior to us going 0 for 3 in conference?

Competency people. How come we all aren’t objectively looking at the competency of this staff intelligently? Are smart, informed fans supposed to believe that this performance has come as a big shock to the staff that, by some accounts from fans, should know how to build top 5 championship contending teams? Or maybe some people just overestimate their abilities..

Richt is still the guy – and should be, for now. His winning percentage is 77%. Dooley’s was 72% and Walley Butts a mere 63%. If Dooley hadn’t had Hershel, he’d have never won a Nat Champ. However, he ought to be putting the hard sell on AJ to come back next year and make it up to the team he screwed. He also ought to dock Granthem’s pay $1000 for every missed tackle. Heck, Granthem would owe UGA money by now.

The problem is that you want him to say this, somebody else wants him to say that, everybody is going to interprete anything he says the way they want to anyway, so he does the correct thing and says as little as possible. Working to get better, nobody likes losing.

Personally, I could give a rats behind what he “says”. For my money its what he does behind closed doors at the meeting this week, and what they are doing to play better football, and I do NOT want his staff to discuss any of that openly. Either they can improve, or they cannot, and what he says has no bearing on that.

BTW, whoever made that point about the caller…..I consider the guy saying “this program is out of control” to have had no logical point to that comment. (what is that even suppose to mean) It’s quite fine to think that, but the idea of a call in show is not simply a “vent”. That added absolutely no substance to the conversation, and don’t tell me that is the type of comment that a producer would never fear could easily be followed by something innappropriate. “ok next” is what that deserved. They cut him off because Coach Richt just doesnt want to hear anything critical….really? I mean, really? Because thats why he spent his time doing a fan call in show after losing 3 games, he doesnt allow any critisism.

It’s time for a change at UGA. We all know what a GREAT person Mark Richt is and a definitely a “role model” for kids. The problem lies more in the business apsect of college athletics and the overall direction of this program. Mark was successfull when the competition was less challenging and not the calibur of National Championship success.

With the introduction of Saban, Meyer, Spurrier, and so and so on, Richt has failed to improve this program and implement a system that maximizes UGA’s talent/players. It’s not an indictment of Richt as a man/peron, it’s more of not adapting and incrementally increasing your team’s overall success. The idea that changing a coordinator would do the trick, is to miss the point all together. When a team has lost all the fundamental principles that lead to success (tackling, blocking, penalties, special teams, off field transgressions) then it’s evident that the direction/message has been lost in translation.

I’m not proud of every imposing or calling for the firing of anyone’s job, but the overall state of UGA’s football team has been & is heading in a direction that no owner/GM/Athletic director can overlook…it’s time for change.

I think if he came out and outlined what he thinks the problems are, as generally as possible, yet being somewhat specific, as I mentioned in my comments, it could serve to calm some of the fever pitch Bulldog Nation is working themselves into. I for one would like to know he recognizes strength and conditioning is a problem, and he’s going to fix it. I would like to know that he’s going to take the discipline issues to the laundry and clean them up, or not field a football team, kick everyone off if necessary. I for one would like to know that he’s looking for the best coaches in the land for our problems; a simple statement saying “I know there are people that think certain coaches aren’t performing. It’’s my job to evaluate their performance, everyone, everything in the program is being looked at for possible solutions.” I would like to know why our guys aren’t motivated to play 100%, and if guys aren’t giving 100% sit them down. Tough love may lead us to a few more losses short term but at least I would know he’s trying. Why would these things be so hard to say? Unless I see something concrete, I’m going to keep pushing for change, anyway I can. I’m tired of seeing the definition of insanity, but it seems to fit here right now.

Unfortuately, I’m of the belief he’s let the infection fester to long to be healed. I’m to the point I just want to feel better as a patient. I would give CMR my support for another year if he sold me that he was going to fix things. His lack of talking about the problems, his track record of not addressing the problems in a timely manner, and not giving me conclusive evidence that he’s capable, lean me in the direction that a change is necessary.

There are enough people like me in Bulldog Nation to cause a change in Athens. It really is up to CMR to convince us that “CHANGE” isn’t the answer and isn’t necessary

I tried to tell you, but…I said that Missy St. had a good chance top win, and guess what, they won. I will again repeat (for at least the 50th time since spring) consider 8-4 a GREAT SEASON. Frankly, I see at least 2 more losses(Florida and Auburn), and 2 questionable games(Kentucky and GT). I also said several months ago that you can count 3 games as sure wins LaLa, Idaho St. and Vandy. Now I am not so sure about Vandy.

Wanda, I agree with you that Richt has to fire this team up. Did you see Coach Paul Johnson on TV a couple of weeks ago where he said that it is not his job to motivate these kids? What a load of crap, if he had maybe Tech would have won Saturday. If I am getting paid the money these guys are making, I would do WHATEVER I had to, to fire them up. Heck look how much passion the Falcons coach displays on the sideline and he is a coach of a pro team.

One more thing, this is hard to say as a fan and supporter because I know what will be coming afterward. I’ve got a life, two families, one older, and one younger now, a four year old. She’s half Dawg, half AU Tiger. I own a business, have employees, family, enjoy the outdoors, fishing, golf, etc. so I do have a life. Just a little perspective because like I said I know what will be coming my way after I make my last comment for today.

I think some of the players not playing the right position or the best players not playing…I been to some of the dawgs practices and on game day the players that started at practices don’t start in game…I seen starter have fits at practice don’t practice hard and still start on game day..If I know I’m going to start no matter how little I practice or how I play in the game …what the point in playing hard..no one is expecting me to….Coaches show favor to some players and put other players down…Richt say they are a family but that is not what I see when I attend their practice

REALITY CHECK people! UGA is not going to fire Richt after this year. He will have another year to turn things around. Unfortunately, I have lost faith in him and his staff to stop the runaway train. So basically what we are looking at is an abysmal year this year, mediocre at best next year, and a new coach the following year. McGarity’s legacy will depend on that hire. He must find the next great coach in college football. Anything less than winning the SEC should be unacceptable at UGA. Let’s hope he gets it right. In the meantime, we’re going to have to suffer through another 2-3 years of ineptitude and mediocrity, while Alabama and Florida continue to play in Atlanta every December.

Mr.Richt has always shown favoritism towards his players. These athletes knows this. Team problem…character! We do not have a David Pollock, David Greene or a Matt Stinchcomb type player that has leadership skills on and off the field. As a former coach, some of the best teams i had, we were not that good athletically but the team chemistry/morale was awesome and we had good senior leadership. The players were coachable and did the things we asked them to do on and off the field. We won alot of games with the TEAM concept.

Sounds like CMR has no idea what to do . The fan base and alumni have been warning CMR that ever since Van Gorder left and Bobo was handed over the play calling duties, that ’something just ain’t right “. I have been following Georgia football since the late 60’s and when certain thing aren’t coming together I can see it along with thousands of other die hard Dawg fans. We are not delusional or over zealot.
I think McGarity will make the necessary changes in time. He has only been here for a very short period. We must give him time to assess the situation, but it is very hard to do it when most of us knew there has been a problem for 3 to 4 years.Staying with the current coaches is not the answer. All that will do is move the decision down the road just like we have done for the last 3 or 4 years.The faster UGA addresses the offensive problems the better we will be and can move on.
I’m not going anywhere and as an alumni who has spent a ton in support of UGA, feel my concerns are justified. I just want CMR to do something other than what has been done for the last 3 or 4 year , which is nothing.

1. If UGA had Fla’s schedule we would be 4-0 and leading the country in both offense and Defnse so shut up gator fans and play someone then come back (we will not see them next week)

2. UGA is not done by a long shot we played 4 games without AJ, the SC game Ealey fumbled going in for the tying score and held SC to 3 points in the second half (meaning good half time adjustments )

3. The Arky game was tied (with out AJ) with 16 seconds left in the game

4. The Miss St game Ealey fumbled one the one and a TD was called back on a penalty (so UGA could easily be 4-0 with 3 or 4 bounces of the ball and we played ranked opponents.

5. Fla will lose to ALA, LSU and UGA leaving UGA ahead of them in the SEC east race

6. Scar already lost to Aub and need only lose to Fla (when was the last time they beat Fla/) and 2 other SEC teams (or 1 and we go into a three way tie) and UGA will be SEC east champs. This season is NOT over. The above scenario with AJ back is totally plausible.

DawgTruth, Richt’s winning percentage is closer to 75% (you said 77%) and has been dropping fast. Dooley had to play Clemson every year instead of a directional school or I-AA team. I don’t think anyone even knew that such schools as Idaho State and La.-Monroe existed until scheduling them became all the rage.

Also, look at Dooley’s history. He got by with a bad season or a couple of bad seasons because his teams always responded with a big year. This was supposed to be Richt’s big bounce-back year, with the new hotshot defensive coordinator and entire offense coming back. It ain’t happening.

This winning percentage stat is irrelevant at this point. This isn’t 2002. Pollack and Greene ain’t coming back through the doors to reel off another title folks. The thing that matters the most is where this program has gone since 2008 Preseason #1 Ranking. Call it what you will, but you don’t start out #1 for the hell of it. There was a reason, and now you have to figure out why this team is losing at a rate that the Pirates look like they may have a winning record before this team does. Something needs addressed and quick.

Lake Oconee Dawg has hit upon a good point if you read it. Motivation come’s from within. If we sold motivation at the gas pump, or with speeches, or with rewards, or pay raises, etc, we only get what you call “short term motivation”. However, when you skin the onion another layer you know self motivation only occurs naturally when one is placed in an environment conducive to being self motivated. Play like a champion means absolutely nothing if your not in an environment conducive to building champions.

This program has coincidentally been sinking since 2006, hardly noticable at first but once the ship was taking on water, it went down quickly. We did have leaders for a while as players. Those players inspired others around them. As attrition took place over the years there were suddenly no players left who knew how to inspire those around them. With a vacuum in Leadership we are where we are.

Let me refresh your thoughts, we were running plays at the end of the game, just to run plays. Probably not the right plays.

I guess I’m a moron as well Patrick, because I agree that it’s been a downhill slide since ‘06. The No. 2 ranking after ‘07 only shows how screwed up the system is. Georgia was flat awful the first half of the year – should have been 4-3 heading into the WLOCP but Vandy gagged away their second straight win over us (contemplate that for a second).

The second half run was nice, but how many of our opponents were any good? Florida lost 4 games that year, Auburn was ok but not great, Troy, Tech, Hawaii…not exactly a murder’s row.

That beatdown at Tennessee was a harbinger of things to come. Games where Georgia just flat doesn’t show up for a half or an entire game. Actually that started on New Year’s Day 2006, in the Sugar Bowl.

2004 was really the last time I felt that Richt was a great coach. Maybe not so coincidentally, it was Van Gorder, Pollack, and Green’s last year at UGA.

I don`t fault any UGA fan for wanting to be the best team in the SEC and compete for NC`s every year. However, I do believe that the expectations
that most UGA supporters set are too high given the caliber of competition in the SEC. This is not the ACC where there are maybe one or two top 25 teams each season. I think everyone should be pleased with the job Mark
has done in his tenure and give him a chance to turn this into a winning season as he has always done.

TIRED OF BEING NICE and Tony…I was at practice for 3days watch Figgins practice Fullback (starting) at the game the kid played very little at fullback and no TE….you tell me its no favor going on…He is not my kid and I felt bad for the kid during the game. All I know is Florida canned Ron Zook when he lost to Miss State….but I guess that’s why Florida has multiple titles and multiple Heisman trophies, etc. UGA will continue being mediocre as long as Richt is coach, but that’s cool with me. More wins in Jax is awesome! Have you seen his Ford commercial? He is by far the least inspiring coach on that commercial…and the ’roundest’ coach on that commercial too. How many of those years with top 10 finishes did UGA beat UF? only twice and once was with a lame duck Ron Zook as the head coach.

How many national titles does UGA have compared to UF? 1 to their 3.

I agree with you. A slide did start in 06. VanG and Calloway and the atmosphere of the previous 5 years was dissipating. We saw it again in 07 with TN b!tchslapping us around for 28 points. I did and do believe by the end of that year (07) nobody could beat UGA. Hawaii was an insult in the Sugar Bowl. 08 it was becoming clearer. Ranked #1 in the country but couldn’t put away the baby seals early and dropped in the polls like a stinky turd even though we were winning, all up and until the Bama game where we got exposed for the weaklings were were. Then it was glaring yet, as most fans choose to ignore it. It has been steadily declined every game since.

Tony Bonehead is right, were not very good. I however defy that it is the players. We have good players. We have no leadership from the coach on down. We have no plan and to date I still haven’t heard of one. No plan, no desire, no drive, no discipline. I want to see CMR turn it around. I really do, however, I have no faith in him doing so.

I agree…Richt has served this University well in most cases. We should support our Team no matter the situation. Before Richt got here where were we????? I think we stay off his back for a few weeks and lets see what happens. All of this hate toward our coaches and team 4 games into the season IS NOT helping!!!! I spend alot of my hard earned money each Feb and March too…. It is very frustrating, but lets hang in there and see what happens.

Funny how when CMR was winning SEC championships and ending the seasons in the top 10 everybody thought he was a genius – now, all of a sudden, 1 average year and one rough start and the man has become a buffoon…….nowbody is on top forever……there are going to be some valleys in the mountain range now and again boys…..quit crying and support the team and kids and the rough times will pass. Dawg catcher- Richt’s beaten FL. twice. It may not seem like much, but it’s more than any other of our coaches in recent history. Also, Shockley was hurt one yr., & UGA had to go w/ Tereshinski at QB. They still almost won. So, they for sure would have beaten them if they had Shockley. They had beaten them the yr. before w/ Greene. So, if that would’ve happened, then UGa would have beaten them 2 yrs. in a row. It’s shame it didn’t happen that way, bc who know, but maybe that could have turned things around. ONe more thing, they’ve actually finished in the top 10 quite a bit in the last 30 yrs. They won a National Championship in 1980. They won teh SEC all 3 yrs. from 80-82, & were highly ranked ea. time. Richt had a well publicized stretch…at least for the first half of his tenure, where he finised among the nations elite just about every yr. Just bc you hate UGA, doesn’t mean you should be coming at us w/ inaccurate facts.

I’ll have to admit, I’ve had my thoughts of dumping this staff and starting over, but I can’t ignore that he is a very good coach. After all, he is the fifth best active D1 coach and has the longest tenure in the hardest conference. I believe the Dawgs need creativity in all areas: recruiting, conditioning, scheming, coaching and definitely play calling. It may take a while to get the entire program back on track but I believe in CMR and his ability to be creative enough to pull this thing out. GO DAWGS!

If you’ve ever seen clips of the great Coach Lombardi, he had several different ways of motivating. Pats on the back sometimes, and of course many times famously getting after the player’s ###, something the current Georgia staff appears incapable of. Good motivation, tough as nails motivation, this program is without that essential ingredient. The Lombardi Trophy – there’s a good reason they call it that name.

Mark Richt is my coach and UGA is my team. Has been, is, and will be.
He is rebuilding his staff and the new coaches are adjusting to their players and the players are adjusting to the new coaches. Give them a chance!

I am an outsider, so I have no dog in the fight (excuse the pun.) But I understand UGA’s frustrations right now both on and off the field. But NO team in the history of college football has been spectacular year in and year out, especially amid the elite teams. There was a time, not too long ago, when being a Bama fan was difficult. While I am not a big Richt fan, I respect the guy. However, I think a coaching team is what they need. The season can still be salvaged, with a lot of hard work and a little bit of luck.

It’s fine that several people on this site are loyal to Coach Richt, and that is to be expected. However, when you lose control of a program on as many fronts as he has, it is simply time for big changes. This is not an overnight situation where so many things are falling apart, and it appears to be the culmination of several factors. Loyalty is a great quality to exhibit, blind loyalty is something else altogether. And you are more than welcome to keep him as your coach at whichever school he ends up, and I’m sure he will appreciate it when that time comes.

It starts with recruiting & CMR has done a poor job of it the last few years. I don’t know whose fault it is but someone is not very good at evaluating HIGH SCHOOL talent. I know it starts with CMR but who is in charge of our recruiting? Maybe some fingers need to be pointed at RG our recruiting coordinator because with all the talent in the state of Ga this should not happen.Maybe we need to start looking in South Ga for players because they play some pretty good football down there(Valdosta-Camden-Thomasville etc).Too many good players from that area leave the state & end up at FL-FL ST-AUB-AL. THAT SHOULD NOT HAPPEN

Had Coach Richt done what he had to do last year and did not, we still would be in this situation.

Mike Bobo and Willie Martinez is what everyone said this time last year.

Coach Richt issued statements this time last year that he would NOT be getting rid of ANYBODY.

Then, he fired Willie Martinez and everyone SHUT UP.

I alone sat here and said the problem is on the offense, that we cannot recruit players any longer because the entire offensive coaching staff is not viewed by the recruits as being useful to them in getting to the next level.

Now, here we are.

And, where is it that we are ?

3-8 vs Top 10 Final AP Poll teams in Coach Richt Era

17-21 vs Top 25 Final AP Poll teams in Coach Richt Era

9 losses vs NON Top 25 Final AP Poll teams in Coach Richt Era

10 years and we have won 3 meaningful games. # 4 vols 2001 but LOST 4 games 2001, a FLUKE win therefore. # 9 Auburn 2006 but AGAIN LOST 4 games 2006, a FLUKE win therefore. # 6 LSU 2005 but LOST 3 games 2005. 10 years and those are the ONLY Top 10 Final AP Poll teams we beat, just those 3, and all 3 years we have 11 LOSSES.

I am sorry that is NOT good enough, not to mention the 9 LOSSES to NON Top 25 Final AP Poll teams in the Coach Richt Era.

21 losses to Top 25 and 9 losses to not Top 25 equals 30 losses.

We could go into the details, but what is the sense ?

Coach Richt in 10 years has done little on the field beating great teams, beating good teams, and not losing to horrible teams.

He has been hit with big huge off-field issues.

The ONLY PRESS he generates is BAD PRESS.

We hired an assistant coach that now we pay $ 3 million a year to.

He was supposed to have by year 10 of his regime, learned the accountability of being a head coach.

If he could not see that Mike Bobo had to go last year, or stubbornly kept him anyway, thinking giving us Willie Martinez being fired against his ABSOLUTE WISHES would appease us, then the question is is there nothing in the contract that says that if all you do is generate BAD PRESS for The University of Georgia, we can simply let you go to play the cupcakes you played at Florida State looking so good with this out-of-date college offense.

Here is the REAL PROBLEM :

(1) Coach Richt hired a staff of nobodies whom he said he wanted because they would be loyal.

(2) He fired Willie Martinez and should have fired the ENTIRE coaching staff he hired, meaning he does NOT know how to hire a staff. This is job 1 of head football coach.

(3) Do you really trust him to get Georgia back RELEVANT by hiring a coaching staff now after 10 years of NOT HAVING ANYTHING RESEMBLING a decent coaching staff ? I don’t.

Ok, we are the # 11 football program in 1-A wins. We are in a state which finds only 3 other states with more high school recruits who go on to the NFL.

Yes, we had some bad years with Ray Goff. That lasted TOO LONG. Way too long. Jim Donnan started to make Georgia relevant again and Coach Richt has too.

But when we are # 21 in wins after the 2005 season to-date, Coach Richt is NOT getting the job done.

Not on the field or off.

So, we go pay $ 4 million a year and see what HEAD COACHES who KNOW how to make HEAD COACH decisions, apply.

Does FIRING a coach who won 91 and lost 30 make this job a job with NO APPEAL ?

Well, again, let’s look at the actual record :

21 LOSSES only 17 wins vs Top 25 Final AP Poll teams, not horrible but NOT great

8 LOSSES only 3 wins vs Top 10 Final AP Poll teams, & those 3 wins those 3 years are accompanied by 11 losses, so the years Coach Richt was supposed to be GREAT, he beat NO ONE.

9 LOSSES to NOT Top 25 Final AP Poll teams.

Add to that that for the last 5 years now this season, we are 10-11 vs SEC East, # 2 in Fulmer Cup Standings, and # 21 in wins; and I believe a REAL head coach would look at that and say no their fans are not unreasonable. UGA should be able to hire a HEAD COACH with HEAD COACH EXPERIENCE, not another assistant.

I just don’t have any confidence in Coach Richt any longer. I do not think he knows how to do his job. Buy him out. He could have fired Mike Bobo last year, and he would not be in this situation today. He did not and he is. He is not getting his job done, therefore.

My well-publicized list found throughout the Internet now of the 21 teams with more wins after the 2005 season lists everyone 1 of those coaches. We hire a proven winner as head coach. Sure, fans of other teams will say we are dreamers, and that we are not that football program. But, we are. And, we can be. We just are not with Coach Richt. Move on.

Washaun Ealey said he knew where the ball was. That is coaching. They fumbled 3 times and got all 3 of their own fumbles. We fumbled 2 times and they got all 2 of those too. So, too, is his blocking the fault of the coaching staff. When the entire coaching staff had 0 running backs this time last year, and today a year later has 0 running backs, it is NOT the fault of the players. We are Fulmer Cup National Champions 2010. We are # 2 Fulmer Cup Standings after 2005 season to-date. So, Washaun Ealey hits a truck when he roommate said he didn’t know his license was suspended. He sees 3 University employees tell him to stay because they have already called the police for him. And, he says he just has got to go. I am sorry, but that is coaching too. The whole entire team cannot run the football, cannot block, cannot get fumbles, cannot prevent fumbles, cannot stay out of trouble. Who recruited them here ? They did themselves ? The coaches recruit them here and then they cannot teach them basic football skills for any of their positions. They also cannot teach them to respect the coaching staff. The coaching staff is horrid and has been for 10 years. 10 years of what was 14-game seasons all 10 except 2. 138 possible wins. We have 3 meaningful wins and those 3 in 3 years we lost 4 games, 3 games, and 4 games. All the other years except those 3 years of 10, we beat NO ONE. Washaun is just an example of it; it is everyone on the team.

To the fans who say we should be cheering them on; no, this is a time to evaluate. We are. You are not. Both groups of us, however, feel that what is going on is NOT TOLERABLE. The fans who say we should cheer them on, are unwilling to evaluate; and ignore that the coaching staff is blaming the players they recruited here and did not teach the skills to; and the players who are not performing are blaming the coaching staff. That we beat 3 teams in what could have been 138 games and those 3 wins were all 3 met those same 3 years with 4 losses, 3 losses, and 4 losses ? That the years we were “GREAT” we beat NO ONE ?

On the top end, against really great teams, 3-8. Hell, we have teams in our conference who have more wins than that in ONE YEAR. And, we have 3 wins in 10 years against Top 10 Final AP Poll teams. All 3 FLUKES.

Colorado has a LOSING RECORD to EVERY CONFERENCE on the ROAD these last 14 years since 1997 when Georgia started going to a bowl game EVERY YEAR since.

Colorado WINS at HOME a lot more.

Colorado cannot run, cannot throw, cannot score, cannot defend the pass, cannot punt, cannot return punts, cannot return kick-offs, cannot kick field goals, cannot hold onto the football, and cannot prevent sacks. They are better in all these areas at HOME than they are on the road.

Georgia even on equal fields, cannot run, cannot score, cannot defend the pass, cannot keep from being sacked, does not know how to return punts, is clueless on player evaluation seemingly just throwing players out there and see if they can perform without teaching any of them any basic football skills, and is a team full of blame game from the Athletics’ Director, to the head coach, to the entire coaching staff and to a whole host of players blaming the coaching staff.

Some few vocal fans say those players should not be blaming the staff, after first ALL the staff criticized and blamed the players themselves first, those very players they recruited here, the very players they are accountable for teaching the basic football skills to, and they very players who the coaching staff has FAILED TO TEACH TO RESPECT them as the coaching staff.

The HOME team is still giving up 4, 4 and half or 5 points to Georgia, according to Las Vegas this morning. Imagine that, we’re supposed to win this game, unlike Missy State whom Las Vegas picked all week long to beat us.

The guys that have gotten in trouble are not thugs and the ones that committed serious actions were kicked off the team. So, not sure how he “has lost control of the team”. Talk about over exaggeration. I hate all you “fans” who probably two years ago were talking about how great CMR and the DAWGS were and now want to crucify him and the team. You’re not fans and all your retarded comments about thugs and firing the whole coaching staff is less than helpful. Did any of you play football? my guess is not. You just blog about it and think you know what you are talking about. Its obvious all of you are perfect and never make mistakes either.

You know sitting here reading all the negative comment’s, one has to wonder, where would this football program be had not CMR not taken over the reigns. Get off the man’s back and give him the same chance and respect you’ve given the rest of the coaches over the years. A lot of you act as if we’ve never been in this position before. I’m from Georgia and have been a loyal dawg for over 25 years and have had to endure the —–ss whipins from teams such as Fl, Tenn, Au, etc, but i refuse to read the crap from some of you who probally never played a down of football and give your idiotic opinions on how the team is being ran. If you bleed “RED & BLACK” you’ll be patient and let this team come into it’s own. I know it’s tough to watch but there’s “THEM SILVER BRITCHES” to everything. Lets just say they give him another year and he lets bobo go. The new oc will change everything and not have the personnel for his offense, and the defense will improve but will have no offense, so it is inevitable that CMR is done no matter what. Unless he wins SEC East next year.

One more thing about CMR if he is so great at gromming QBs why did STAFFORD suck for two years and before his third year he went to the Manning QB camp and was awesome. Care to explain. Its a what have you done for me lately job and hes not done anything since 2007 when they played an inferior opponet in Hawaii.

I don’t know the “Mobile Dawg”, but he is spot on with his observations. I used to live and die with the Red & Black, and even when they lost, the opponents always spoke highly of them, and how tough they played. Not true today. It’s grueling to have to listen to that psychopath Spurrier describe Georgia. I don’t see any “Erk Russel’s”, on the horizon, and if a team was ever in need of someone like him it’s this one. I worked in my yard this past weekend, and went out for the game that night—-simply refused to watch. I’ve had it with all of this coddling of these spoiled brats in high school. Stop offering scholarships until you make the team. It used to be a privilege to play for UGA———now it’s just a way station for some to the pros. Education———FREE EDUCATION———-has no lure. Stop all the begging and pleading with these children in high school, and see how fast things turn around.

I said it two seasons ago, and it has just been amplified this season. MR is no longer a first tier coach in the SEC, the toughest conference in football. He had already been well beaten, and passed, by championship coaches Saban, Meyer, Miles, and yes, Spurrier. Now, their former coordinators are whipping his tale (Mullin, the Miss. State coach and former UF coordinator). Right now he is perhaps the tenth best (or worst) coach in the SEC. I see only two games on the schedule as potential “sure” wins (and I’m not 100% on Vandy)..Vanderbilt and Idaho State. Every other game is either an almost certain or potential loss (UF –are you kidding me? that score will be something like 70-6; Auburn, Tech, even Tenn and Kentucky)….3 Wins, 8 or 9 losses is a real probability. Sunshine fans can talk all they want about how fine a man he is, great coach, blah blah blah..but the reality is in W & Ls,….the state of GA has top fifteen talent at least…any ranking lower than that is bad coaching, period. UGA will not play for, let alone win, any more championships under MR…EVER. His effectiveness as a championship coach is over. If the fans want to be satisified with 7-5, 8-4 seasons, and third tier bowls…MR is your guy. But if they want to compete for SEC championships again…well, I hope the new AD has Stanford’s Harbaugh and Boise State’s Witherspoon on his speed dial….

Richt is running out of excuses. Last year it was the defense. What does he do? fires almost all his defensive staff…Well when you avg under 20 pts a game last year and under 10 pts a game this year I don’t think that has to do with defense…Bobo should have been let go with the defensive coaches last year..Pathetic

Joe Lombardi (QB coach for Saints) = next UGA head coach or OC at least. If he can motivate as little as 10% as good as his grandfather, it would be 10% more than the Dawgs currently have! We need motivatition, and not a tean endzone dance once every 5 years or a Black out. Lombardi could do it!

C’mon people, give Coach Richt a chance. Look at what he has done for the program within the last ten years. He has brought the program back into the nation’s eyes. Granted this year has been aweful but in comparison to Jim Donnan and Ray Goff, oh sorry is there any comparison??? As for the players that have been arrested, well Mark Richt is their coach, not their mom and dad. Seems that someone has failed in the discipline department LONG before Mark Richt ever came into the picture. Have a little faith. Coach Richt will get our Dawgs back on track!!!
