ATHENS — Washaun Ealey’s fumbles cost Georgia dearly in losses to South Carolina and Mississippi State, and they will cost the sophomore tailback some playing time this week at Colorado.
“He’s going to play, but if a guy is turning it over, you’ve got to take some playing time away from him,” offensive coordinator Mike Bobo said Tuesday night.
Bobo and running backs coach Bryan McClendon said either Caleb King or Carlton Thomas will start at tailback Saturday and get some snaps that otherwise would have gone to Ealey. All three tailbacks played last week and, according to the coaches, will again this week.
Ealey has started at tailback the past three games, but his fumbles inside the opponent’s 5-yard line denied Georgia potential touchdowns at South Carolina and Mississippi State.
Both of Ealey’s fumbles resulted from “a slip in his technique,” McClendon said. “We have to make sure that can’t happen. It’s so hard to win in this league, but you make it that much harder when you’re laying the ball on the ground.”
The coaches weren’t specific on how much Ealey’s playing time will be reduced, although McClendon said “it won’t be a bunch less.”
King played on a limited basis last week after missing the previous two games with a sprained right ankle. McClendon said last week’s game helped King regain confidence in the ankle. He is “not missing a beat” in practice this week, McClendon said.
The 5-foot-7, 176-pound Thomas, who entered the season as the No. 3 tailback, relishes the idea of increased playing time.
“I’m just pretty much waiting for more,” Thomas said. “I’m ready to get into that rhythm, man. . . . I love reps. I want some more to show what I can do.”
Georgia has struggled unexpectedly in the running game this season, ranking 11th — next-to-last — in the SEC with an average of 124.2 yards rushing per game.

Send his thug ass back to Stillmore. Bobo too and Garner and McClendon and Searls. May throw Van Halenger in that as well. I’m so tired of “We are going to keep banging away.” Thats not cutting it anymore. We(the fans) deserve to know what they are doing to turn this team around. I cant stand the “we are just going to keep doin what we’re doin” line. IT AINT BY GOD WORKING. The call in show on Monday nights has become the Blo Mark Richt show. Cant stand it. Ealey’s “fumble issues” did hurt but they did not cause the loses to MS and SC. Reducing Ealey’s time (even though he is a slug) and Thomas playing more sure the “heck” aren’t the answers to the Offense’s problems!!! Bobo, Homer Simpson and Coach Cline (WaterBoy) are one in the same.
Actually I had rather have Homer and Coach Cline as a “offensive Coordinator-at least they are funny.

excuses excuses………… the offensive line need to hit the MESS out some people and the OC NEED TO CALL BETTER PLAYS!!!!!!!!! If OC could go spread 4 or 5 wr and sometime allow the qb to make a play with his feet or arm it may open up the run game, I know ga want to run first then pass but at this junction ga need to pass or fake pass to loosen up the defense, if not every team will stack the line with 7 or 8 personnel. OC do some quick slants wildcat with B.Smith (db) a reverse or qb hold and hid the ball heck OC you need to loosen up. Make it happen please

A junior high running back has better ball protection skills than Ealey. Ealey has it all backwards. I don’t even have to explain it, he is so baaaaad at ball protection. Anybody who has ever carried a football knows to cover up with both hands and arms in heavy traffic and not to carry the ball like a loaf of bread. I bet his h.s. coach is in agony watching Ealey fumble…..time and time again.

You want a load of crap. Here is one.
On 680 the Fan Kevin Butler on Sunday morning said
The reason Georgia is struggling is because of Damon Evans
His policy had coaches doing more than just coaching:
Interest, their extra duties sure could not have been keeping the players out of trouble
Because if so, they have failed at that as well as their coaching.
Not sure what he was referring to: Like Kevin as a player, and he was a hell of a kicker
But that statement just did not wash.
Damon Evans and the red panties or his policy ( whatever that is that he referred to)
has nothing to do with this coaching staff. And frankly that is credit does not belong on his shoulders
The coaches are responsible for coaching; and their are just no excuses for their subpar effort of late.
THIS IS A LIFESTYLE PROGRAM- do just enough to keep your job. BFFs are more important than winning. That comes from the top. And frankly has nothing to do with Damon Evans or any other part of this football team. The responsible is on Richt and his staff.
I have always been a fan of coach richt. But the ah shucks mentality has to change. This program needs a 1,000 enema to flush out the complacent crap that has festered for the last few years.

If Richt was tough with bad apples as now, Ealey would be off the team, and UGA wouldn’t suffer the 2 fumbles.
Richt kicked one player off the team yesterday whose crime is way below Ealey’s. The only reason that Ealey is suspended 1 game instead of being kicked off the team is Richt thought he would be the #1 force in UGA’s running game. How does that work out for you, Mr. Richt?

If Ealey had been kicked off the team like the freshman linebacker, somebody else would have been carrying the ball against SC & Miss St & maybe they don’t fumble!! How does UGA have such mediocre tailbacks? For that matter, why is there so much mediocre talent on the team?
There are two basic things you must do to have a chance for success: block & tackle. This team has not done either.
Bring back Willie! He never lost in Columbia, never lost to Ark & never lost to Miss St! Also, he costs ALOT less than the sham we have been given!
Also, maybe its time that Searles starts talking to the media. He owes an explanation has to what he crap he has been doing since coaching up football is evidently not on his radar!

The problem with this team starts at the TOP. You people who always want to blame the assistant coaches had better stop drinking the kool-aid! The problem is the head coach. He has brought the FSU mentality to UGA.
The major difference is that Bowden produced over 20 years of success before he let the program start running on its own. Richt only drove the bus for 7 1/2 years before he put it on auto-pilot! I guess that when your guaranteed to make $3 million + per year, there is not much incentive o produce … & he hasn’t in nearly 3 years!

Yeah, running little Carlton up the gut will get UGA two things: Him injured and the team a yard. King is nothing but another bust who was supposed to be great. First he couldn’t block (see Stafford several years ago against Fla.) during the Knowshon “I think I’ll take a breather and save my body for the NFL”, season. And then Knowshon begins his NFL career hurt I might add.Now King can’t get on the field for more than two games at a time for injuries. Now we have Ealey who looks like he’s shaving points since his fumbles all have the same MO. UGA used to be Tailback U. But of course with a bunch of mushy meat heads up front, there’s only so much a back can do. And thanks CMR for totally wasting AJ’s eligibility. First year QB’s all three years. Brilliant. Maybe he can come back for Lemay, but I seriously doubt if Lemay actually signs when the time comes.

Here’s something for all you Richt haters to chew on—and I’m serious now–and as frustrated as anyone (except the coaching staff) but if Georgia goes 6-6 this year. Take the last 5 years of Richt’s tenure and his record is better than ANY OTHER 5 year period in Georgia football HISTORY–except for the 3 years that Herschel Walker played. Any other 5 year period in GEORGIA HISTORY. If we had had the internet in Vince Dooley’s day there would have been at least seven years in which all of you would have been howling for his job. And he is the winningest coach in UGA history and a Hall of Famer. So take a breath. Inhale. Get behind the program instead of piling on and give the head man the support he has EARNED.

Yeah! Let’s dont let Ealey carry the ball anymore since he fumbled. Let’s run that 150 lb back into the middle of the line against 10-11 huge guys.
Fumble against So. Car was bad; I cannot fault the one against Miss St. Did you really see the hit he took? I think he was dazed and disoriented when the ball was on the ground.
Now I get as upset with him as anyone, especially when he and the OL got stuffed for no gain on 3rd and 1 against Ark, then during the ensuing timeout he is dancing to hip hop at midfield. Totally whiffing on the crucial block that almost got Murray killed, but not the fumble.
Please teach him dancing when you are getting your butt handed to you is not acceptable, teach him how to block properly, teach drills to hold onto the ball, but don’t throw him under the bus for getting racked in midair.

Mark Ingram was the 58th rated running back in his high school class. King was consensus top 5. Ealey was top 10, depending on what web site you looked at. So what happened? Ingram got better. Bigger, stronger, tougher, and more mentally strong in the strength and conditioning program. King and Ealey have not been forced to reach their peak by a sub par weight program.

Well even though Ealey did put the ball on the ground, this time by rule when the players helmet came off, the play should have been blown dead as soon as it left his head, you cannot expect a defenseless player to dive at the ball without a helmet. That’s the only break I will give Ealey he has to secure the ball ! Now that we established the SEC is one the worst officiating crews in all of football ( the level of play is not getting good officiating ). The whole conference must save face, too many times last year they had to apologize, for incorrect calls. Not only did I see at least 2 terrible calls in the Bama vs Ark game, I saw several in the USC vs Auburn game.
We all know that bad calls will determine the out come of games, but when you make the kind of revenue we make in the SEC & generate the TV dollars we do, we must improve the product we put on the field, which includes officiating. Just like our fans at UGA are crying for a win now, we want a better product ! When will they realize even though I & several others are paying for a big TV package every week, that just because we are guaranteed playing for the national title, make sure the games your playing in your conference are called correctly. So the best BCS conference will put the best team in the Championship Bowl ! Go Dawgs !!!

Mallet is out of the Heisman talk after the last INT he threw against Bama. Ingram didn’t deserve the Trophy last year. SUE or the Stamford Rb were better and ment mre to their teams. Bama has never had a Heisman winner and they were unbeaten so too many votes in the souther region went to Ingram. If Bama’s QB had a bad year last year Ingram wouldn’t even be heard of.

Although Damon Evans was not directly to blame for the demise of our program over the last several years, I can tell you that the disconnect between the Athletic Department and the Football team, coaches, staff and players is and should be of major concern to anyone who has invested any time, energy, feelings, emotions and financial support to the program.
We all know that coaches are hired and paid to recruit and then coach up the best kids they can. And yes, it is important that they help the kids graduate in a reasonable amount of time as well. At the same time, with any successful program there is always a solid working relationship between these two distinct areas of an institution. I know for certain that there has and maybe still is a certain disconnect between the two. I do feel that GM will fix that #$%@ real quick and make it very clear that in the future this will not be the case. It is critical that GM do this and do it quickly and with great confidence and passion or we will truly be doomed as a program.
It is not one player, or one coach or one play that has put us where we are today. It never is. Just look at the numbers previously mentioned in the post and you can see for yourself that this didn’t happen over night. You don’t have to be a recruiting expert or have even been in the arena to see that we have not gotten the caliber of players to dominate anyone.
We are just skirting by with our recruiting and if the coaches could actually admit this, they would tell you the same. Recruiting isn’t easy. Sure we have good players and even some great players at certain positions, but for the most part we are getting the best of the rest. We can do better, but it may take committing a few minor recruiting violations to do it. We are basically being out foxed by our competition from time to time and this has caused us to loose out on some great players that could have easily changed the outcome of more than a few games over the last several years.
As far as the play calling goes, it is real simple. We have the same plays in our playbook as every other school in the country. Really….how many plays do you think a certain team can come up with that another team hasn’t seen a hundred times. Sure, we have called a few bad plays over the years, but those same plays have lit other teams up as well.
At this point we are what we are. When you get to this point, it basically comes down to the players themselves. If they don’t have the desire to be great, if they don’t see themselves being great, then they will never be great at UGA or life in general. Coach Richt has coached in some big games in his career and won. He has also coached in some big games and lost. Coach Bobo has seen adversity before. For those of you that don’t remember, 1996 wasn’t a great year for him personally. He had an SEC leading 16 interceptions and had to deal with all kinds of negative press about his ability to play QB as well as some pretty severe personal attacks. All the time, Coach JD would only say that the kids are just not picking up the scheme like we want them too. Who do you really want coaching our players…..some guy who never played in a big time college football game or a guy who can look our players in the eyes know that they have been there before and come up with the best solution for the given circumstance. Don’t get me wrong, you don’t have to have been in the arena to be a great coach, but most of the time it is better than the alternative. Again, for those of you who have forgotten, Bobo led our Dawgs to a 10-2 season and is one of the few QB’s in the last 20 years that can say he lead his team to a victory over the Gators.
As far as the other coaches, they are all we have and I can assure you that they are hurting just like us the fans. If for some reason they aren’t, that will play itself out in time. CMR want have to fire anyone that doesn’t want to be a DAWG. The ones that don’t will find there way with another team somewhere down the line. Do you really think Willie is hurting right now for his former players. Hell no, he out in Norman game planning for his next opponent.
Coach Richt wants to win again here at Georgia. Are we always happy with our he handles himself on the field ? Probably not. Would it be nice to see him get excited ? Hell Yeah it would be. I’ll say this…..and you can mark my word. When these players get it in their mind that they want to be great and execute perfectly what they have been coached to do, we will see more excitement from our coaches and players than you could ever imagine.
It’s human nature.

Bobo needs to go to the shotgun spread offense 65%, the backs are better suited to the open field, the OL is better at pass protection than run blocking and the freshman QB can call better plays than Bobo in pressure situations, I’m tired of getting out-coached.

Ealy is a typical thUGA football player. He thought he was above the law when he drove off, drove without a license, and dances and prances at INDIVIDUAL plays with total disregard of the how the team is doing or how it looks (or gets penalized). It’s all about him, and the coaches don’t discourage ANY of this disgusting behavior. They are reaping what they recruited, and how they tolerate such crude actions. The alumni and fans have gone along with it – only until some embarrassing loses which are only symptoms of player attitudes. The program is rotten top to bottom.

Just for some info, for those that keep saying “thuga”, I can attest to the fact that as a GA alum from 81 and Fl from 83…(yes i know eons ago) Florida is GREAT at covering up the “minor” infractions. Things were handled internally. These infractions made by the Georgia players are way blown out of proportion (not saying I condone or were not stupid mistakes) by the media and I can also attest to campus police and athens pd as over zealous when it comes to arresting ga students, including athletes. 90% of GEORGIA arrests only warrant “TICKETS” at other universities, and never make the paper. Every college has its share of incidents involving MINORS in possession, public intoxication, no license, suspended etc…So get off the “THUGA” crap, most who say this have either never attended college, or, NEVER BEEN CAUGHT! Mistakes by young men and women are all a part of growing up…were any of you perfect? I realize that being an athlete puts you under a microscope so to speak and you are representing your school, but that does not change the fact that you are young, probably away from home for the first time, spreading your wings and growing up…and yes making mistakes and learning from them.
All of you want these young men kicked off the team for these minor infractions…hitting a parked car in a garage is different from a hit and run which people want to use as the infraction…yes he was not suppose to be driving, yes he left, maybe he was scared as he knew he screwed up and had to face it. scooter incidents, good grief, ya thats worthy of being kicked off the team and being called a “thug”. You are all such hypocrites. Major infractions that are felonies of course must be handled differently.
Does this off field behavior reflect on to the field, i doubt it. I feel alot of you are not really GA fans but rather trolls who want to see these young men kicked off the team as you see the team WORSE without them. I think a lot of you are very racist especially with the THUG comment and are not quite smart enough to look up the meaning of the word.
I am as frustrated as you can get as a dawg fan over the curse of the season thus far, but i am not a fair weather fan and will cheer on the dawgs if 12-0 or 0-12. ALL teams go through rough spots, these are ours, but rest assured, the problems will be fixed, we will get better. I am not a coach, nor a player anymore, and would not suggest to keep or fire the current staff as my expertise is not in that area, but as to some of your suggestions…in my opinion- kirby is not that smart…saban is, muscamp could not beat UCLA, the MACs and WACs of the world do NOT play SEC teams weekly, Gary Patterson at TCU…same thing, the list goes on. Be happy with what we have and show a little pride and support, God forbid any of the coaches or players read the dribble from these Blogs….yes everyone is allowed to vent but please especially Ga fans…show some class and pride. Sorry didn’t mean to take up so much space but just wante to “vent” a little…..sorry for the sp mistakes, before someone corrects that also

No speed at tailback except Carlton and the wind blows him down. It’s a bad combination with the line no blocking, the backs not breaking tackles and no speed to the edge. Then of course you add the fumbles and we have a recipe for disaster or a formula for a 1-3 start.

How can EALEY walk around the UGA campus holding his JUNK in one hand and his pants up with the other hand, but can still carry his books to classes! How can Ealey still find time to fumble the football on Saturdays? Hell, Ealey can keep his hands on and protect the things that really matter all week, but can’t hold on to a football. Why don’t the UGA coaches make the Football lock like an African American C..K and he would never let go of it unless a white tramp in Athens reached for it. HAHAHAH. THE TRUTH HAS BEEN TOLD.

Somebody mentioned Ealey juking while down 14 pts to Arkie. Hard to forget the Soulja Boy dance on the sideline two years ago. Richt’s been slowly losing the handle of his team since 2008. All of the stunts have finally caught up to him. He’s getting barbecued by the media nationally on tv and in the press. It’s no longer a regional story.
The schedule is so easy that Georgia could stumble into 6 more wins with losses to Fla and Aub. Will that heal the wounds? I say the locals back off if he wins 7 games and gets a bowl game.

Not much to comment on …..the coaches have the responsibility
to determine the playing time for every player based on previous performances. If they think Ealey has not earned the time he has

tailbacks more time.

The whole issue of what is wrong with the football team is disipline (in the lack thereof).
College Football is a game, it is now a money making event for the Athletic association. The Associations oversite of this business venture lacks disipline because it has become complacent with a few things that years ago would not have been tolerated. For example dredlocks, gold teeth, tatoos, poor manners, lack of self disipline, lack of responsible observation and control, lack of self control, lack of respect. These are learned values that have to be taught as well as followed. It does start at the top let us see the examples
Regent Leeburn, running around on his wife with a GA coach, why aint he gone? Disipline.
Damon Evans and the red panties? at least they let him go but look what they paid him? disipline.
The starters that were arrested get hand slaps the non starters get kicked off the team. what says that for disipline.
Why do some players dress differently than others on the field? lack of disipline.
With the dred locks,” do rags”, have you noticed the number of helmuts flying off kids heads. This lack of disipline may get someone hurt or killed .
look at the fans and the trash they leave after the games last year and this… lack of disipline
Look at the students and the party time image of athens,,… lack of disipline.
Look at the overzealous law enforcement trying to make up for lost revenue by badgering college students and fans with misc. offences..lack of disipline
Look at Pres. Adams asking the legislature/regents for more money for Med school and engineering programs and raising tuition/fees to offset costs, cutting professors salaries and padding his own….lack of disipline
yep its time to clean house all right

Is it his religion or his lack of faith in discipline. Interesting question. Discipline sucks, but it has to be enforced or else. Go to school and classes and anything else —-your off the team. Thats all folks! Oh yea, it wouldn’t hurt the whole team to run an extra mile or 2 at every practice. Would it?

In the case of Washaun Ealey, the cause of the law breaking, the fumbling on crucial plays, and the dancing on the sideline when his team is getting drubbed can be attributed to what I call “Echo Syndrome”.
In my professional opinion based on the exceptionally tiny head size of Mr. Ealey, there could not possibly be enough room for a brain in Washaun’s head, considering how much physical space is naturally taken up by two eyes, the nasal cavity, and the mouth cavity. There may be some rudimentary device inside, perhaps a NO/NC switch, but not much else.

Good move, you can’t reward somebody who fumbles on the goal-line twice with a start. Ealey needs to hold it tight and high, and when 3 guys are tackling you, and have position on you, just go down. Hard to fault effort to ge tin the end zone, but the risk isn’t worth the reward with Ealey, he’s not exactly running much better than King or Thomas.
Look for him to break a long one against Colorado and win his starting job back.

Richard Samuel is the best running back on UGA’s roster. However, that crappy o-line, one of the worst in the country (thanks Searles!), made the bandwagon fans on UGA gripe about Richard. THe coaches listened to the fans and moved him to LB. Hopefully, Richard gets red-shirted now. He should still be the starting running back. He has speed and power, but when you get hit behind the line every other time you run the ball, that is on the line. Watch the replay of the last 3 games and count how many times the lineman stand up and look behind them to see where the running back is. They don’t run-block! Watch Chris Davis play!!! He should not be on the field! Yes, the running backs fumble, but, they are having to try to carry the running game by themselves, because they will get no help from that offensive line.

I was listening to 680 The Fan morning show and they were saying “You can’t blame the coaching its the players”. Well I ask them how does 3,4,and 5 star recruits in high school go to UGA and translate into a 6-6 team ? I mean UGA has been top 10 and even top 5 recently in recruiting rankings. So if you are getting the best players every year and they aren’t winning then it has to be the coaching. Why does Bama and Fla. get the same rated recruits and WIN ? Its the coaching plain and simple. Richt’s gotta go.

In fact, the last 5 years bears striking resemblance to the man Richt replaced, if you ignore the fact that UGA actually got BETTER during the Donnan years, instead of getting WORSE, like it is now.

It’s funny reading these blogs. Before the season, everyone was saying how stupid Richt was for starting King over Ealey since Ealey was by far the better back. Now, Ealey should have been kicked off the team for his hit & run incident, he should never play again, blah, blah, blah. Maybe now everyone understands why King was named the starter in the first place. Maybe he (King) is the more complete back afterall. Now if that O-Line will block somebody, BooBoo will open up the playbook and stop running a 175lb back up the middle against a defense with 8 men in the box, something good will happen.

This UGA problem rushing the ball will not go away by shifting starters. It is deeper than that. This rushing issue is core to UGA’s problems for two or three years.
In the SEC you have to have big, strong backs and three deep to withstand the pounding of big boy ball. Problem is that UGA football is not designed for big boy SEC ball. It is the same type of team that FSU ran with in the 90s vs. weak, weak ACC teams and prior to their joing the ACC. Finess and speed.
UGA has no finess and really has no speed. Their backs are itty, bitty and they are slow and ealey has a bad case of the dropsys. He needs to be let go ………… like he lets go of the ball and like he has cost UGA 3 games …….KY,SC and Arkansas. He is terrible.
This edition of UGA football has shown us the depths of the failed recruiting at key spots ( linemen and backs and one more good, quality QB that can play in the SEC ) and this staff need to resign or be fired.

ATHENS, Ga. — Head coach Mark Richt reserved judgment following the Georgia Bulldogs’ two-and-a-half-hour practice in full pads on Tuesday afternoon.
“We’ll see Saturday how they did today,” Richt said following the session.
A good coach could answer that question, they either practice well and should be ready or we will try to get it right Wed. cause there not ready. This “we will see Sat” is nothing but BS.

I am on the band wagon of all those above pointing the finger at our OFFENSIVE LINE. “It” has been “offensive” and ineffective thus far this year(running partic.). Last weekend, Ealey, got his bell rung, helmet flying off etc.. I could give him a pass on that one. Not the previous week’s fumble. Bobo, is looking for someone to blame other than himself. I would have rather he admitted that he has done a sub par job thus far and will greatly improve his play calling starting NOW. But, he hasn’t done that, he seemed to point to someone else other than himself and our offensive line. That is unacceptable to me.

Vixzilla,
True about Ealey, but you don’t see Mark Ingram, Lattimore from SC, or Dyer from Auburn fumbling. In fact, they will punish the defender more often than not.
Richt isn’t getting the big time running backs anymore, they go elsewhere.

Why do we still have Mark Richt as head coach? After reading all these posts it seems that there are so many other qualified and experienced coaches around the Atlanta area who know exactly how to fix the program and can get us a National Championship! In ‘09, Willie’s D gave up 37 points to SC, 41 to ARK, 45 to UT, 41 to UF, 34 to UK.
In ‘10, TG’s D gave up 17 points to SC, 31 to ARK, 24 to Miss State.
I’m not sure, but basic math tells me if UGA’s offense was scoring more than 6 and 12 points, we could win some games.

This is the article with the video of the cheap shot.
Georgia center Ben Jones chops Mississippi State defensive tackle Fletcher Cox while the players were casually following a play in the closing minutes of Saturday’s game at Starkville. Although you can’t fully see the act on the video, Georgia’s Mark Richt and Mississippi State’s Dan Mullen are clearly upset, with Richt — to his credit — ripping into Jones as the player returned to the sideline.
Readers Rob and Robbie both sent us messages after having watched it while in attendance at Davis Wade Stadium at Scott Field. Robbie writes that Jones not only should have ejected, but “suspended for at least 2 more it was so nasty.”

What I don’t understand is why so called fans like DostaDawg have to stoop to belittlig the character of the player just because he is upset that the team is going thru hard times are the player is going thru hard times. To call the player a “thug” is not warranted. Every time a player does something against the grain of the norm, it is not because they are a “thug”. I’m not saying a thing against Ealey and the fumble in the Miss St game..he took on 2 defenders, split them and got extra yardage, however in the process due to the ferocity of the collision he lost his helmet , the ball and any short term understanding of what day of the week it was.He went flat out trying to score and I’m not going to fault him for the extra effort..if he had held the ball it would have been a TD and he would be everyone’s hero..this is not like the SC fumble where he lost focus and the ball..at Miss St he was desperately trying to score and just got rocked its the SEC it will happen.

A few of CMR’s latest quotes, statements. Have you ever noticed his communication style, skills? He uses a lot of Uh’s, I means, you know’s, I guess. Most of these lead ins to his comments are time buyers because he doesn’t know the answer, and they also don’t suggest strong Leadership Skills.
“There’ll be nothing drastic,” Richt said. “I guess the most drastic personnel change would be A.J. getting in the game.”
As soon as we took that first trip to Arizona State, I said I don’t know if this was the best idea or not,” Richt said
A possible reason for the success of opposing team’s opening drives: Mississippi State showed some formations that Georgia hadn’t seen on film, according to Richt. MSU also played some guys that Georgia weren’t sure would play because of injury. “There were a lot of common threads, but it wasn’t exactly the way we practiced it,” Richt said.
The bottom line is things will get worse or things will get better,” Richt said.
I blogged the other day that there is a Head Coach here in Mobile, Joey Jones, who has started 2 programs from the ground up. When he talks, he talks direct, facts, etc. He was asked by a caller the other day about his offensive line; his comment ” we need at least 16 offensive linemen on scholorship at any given time, due to the nature of the position, susceptable to injury, etc.” so that’s one of our focuses on recruiting”.
Like I said then, this man played for Bear Bryant 3 years, started two programs, has excellent results now, very smart guy. There are a good number of these types of candidates waiting for a shot.
If UGA elects to stick with CMR he has at least a three year project IMO to rebuild this program. Minimum is a new coaching staff, new strength and conditioning program, etc. Then we are taking a chance that things will just be the status quo.
When you analyze things from a neutral perspective, how could you miss all the signs?

Lifelong GA fan, so I have seen the good, the bad and now the ugly. 1-3 Wow. I feel your pain. My opinions to fix the problems.
1. Defense is what it is until we get the right players. Hold teams to less than 20 points and we have a chance. Recruit interior lineman – none on commitment list. This is a lot of the problems.
2. 4 or 5 receiver sets on offense – qb in shotgun to offset the worse line in the SEC.
3. Running backs are average at best so throw more screens and wheel routes out of the backfield. Treat them as running plays.
3. Besides the kicking – we have the worse special teams in the country. 3rd string qb returning punts. What a joke. Look at AL – Richarson and Jones retruning kickoff’s. Do we not have anyone on our team that’s fast and that can return kicks?

Regression
September 29th, 2010
10:19 am
Why is it that players regress at UGA? Have you ever heard CMR say that any of UGAs backs could block? Ealey was a 4 star player coming out of HS and Scout had this to say about him; With a great frame, good balance, power, speed, vision, and acceleration, it’s hard to find an area for improvement with Ealey. He does everything well, including being a lead blocker when he lines up at fullback. He can go between the tackles and he can beat a defender to the corner. He is an instinctive runner along with having all the tools. Overall, an excellent running back prospect – Scott Kennedy, Scout.com Yet the coaching staff at UGA can’t develope these players. Where is the underlaying problem. I believe UGA coaches are like kids who get new toys each year. As sonn as they get a new one the rest are forgotten even though the old ones are better. When has UGA had a QB ready to play at the start of the season other than David Green and Matt Stafford. DJ Shockley, Joe Cox and Logan Gray were all wasted tallents who withered and died on the vine (or bench). DJ was more prepared that Cox to step in and do us proud and if he had gotten more playing time during the three years he sat waiting his turn we could have gone to the next level under his leadership. Stafford was a coaches dream who put his personal goals first. He could make all the throws but his sights were on the NFL. His first year he was thrown into the pit and took a h@!! of a beating. But what did he do for UGA. Would we have done any worse with Joe Cox or been better off in the long run as he would have stuck around and put the team first. We will never know what Logan Gray could do because we turned him into a fair catch specialist. You think our coaches ever though about putting both our fullbacks into the backfield together to protect Murray. Maybe run some wishbone formations. Move Sturivant to Nose Guard. Use Logan Gray as a running back (recurited as a dual threat QB) Put Brandon Smith and Carlton Thomas both back og puns and kickoffs. In other words do something different when what your doing is not working. All the pieces are there but the coaches have to make the fit.

Lowcountry, Richt does not know what to do. If he does realize the program has to be rebuilt from the ground up, he doesn’t have the skill set to pull it off. Georgia definitely will NOT lose back to back games this year. But more important, there is little doubt, to those with a substantial amount of SEC knowledge, that Georgia will indeed beat Florida this year. Florida’s QB, Brantley, is mediocre at best, as well as inexperienced. And while Georgia’s QB, Murray, is young and untested, he is a true champion.. on the field and at heart. Florida’s O-line has weakened while Georgia’s has gotten stronger. Florida has no short-yardage game so they’ll have to rely on Brantley to get them into the end zone from afar (which will be difficult with his limited skills and experience). Georgia rates much higher at the receiver position with veteran wideouts A.J. Green and Travaris King. Now, on to Special Teams. Against most teams, Florida would have the edge on Special Teams, but not against the Bulldogs whose ST’s promise to be one of the best, if not THE best in the country. So, as you can see, barring serious injuries on the Bulldog squad, there is little to no possibility that the Gators will have much of a chance against Georgia this season

What a novel concept, bench a player if he’s not playing well.
Then again this season is screwed, might as well play him to get him reps and experience, Carlton Thomas is a midget and Caleb King is just so prone to injury. It amazes me that other than Knowshon, Georgia hasn’t had a real running back since Musa. Which is probably Richts fault, he can never seem just pick a damn starter and stick with him. Of course, Richt and Bobo also don’t call plays to the runners strength. Running Carlton Thomas between the tackles is so stupid. He’s on 5′7″. He’s too small to break arm tackles. Got get that speedy kid outside. King is bigger, run him between tackles. There are so many problems in Athens right now. I’m going to sell my wife’s wedding ring for some extra scrilla. Need shoes for my whip.

When you have 10 of your players arrested in one year for various violations of the law, that tells you you’re not doing a good job of picking players. You’re picking bums and what do you expect bums to do? No self-discipline, no sense of teamwork or honor. If this is an indication of the quality of the team’s leadership (coaches), UGA’s in for some bad days ahead.

I would have to agree that Ealey’s fumbles were not the only reason we lost those games. I kind of ribbed him on here yesterday and probably shouldn’t have. I am sure he feels pretty bad about the fumbles as it is. Now he loses his starting spot. He can keep practicing hanging onto the rock though.
I didn’t see it but everybody said that hit he took at MSU was pretty hard. Most RB’s can get hit like a parked car and hang on to the rock he should be able to too.

Doesn’t matter if Ealey is benched. I look at Lattimore at SC, Ingram and Richardson at UA, etc. and I realize we have no running backs worthy of salt. While other back last week were averaging 10 yards a clip ours were at 1-2. Ealey and King both are barely able to get back to the line of scrimmage and the coaches keep trying to run them up the middle. They are not Ingram ……. if anything run them wide but not between the tackles…..particularly when we don’t have an OL that can block my grandmother.

Thats the issue the AD faces.
1) Does he firmly beleive Richt can fix the situation?

icedawg, I have to disagree. Ealey runs behind his pads and finishes runs by moving forward. The problem is that our backs are hit at or behind the line of scrimmage on the vast majority of plays.
King is a good back but he likes to be elusive and hasn’t finished runs with authority because he isn’t that kind of back. It wasn’t until Ealey came on strong last year that Caleb started to run with authority. I still think he is an above average back but our guys are being asked to break tackles at the line of scrimmage..it’s no surprise that a 2 yard gain is all we get most of the time.
Thomas has looked good at times hitting seams and accelerating through the few holes that he’s had. He has potential but again, he has put the ball on the ground.

Hey LowCountryBoil…can’t say i don’t agree with you some about Ealey, but as far as the young man that was kicked off the team…i don’t think Coach Richt had a choice if he wanted to be taken serious, that is what everyone was wanting out of him…I think had this happened earlier it would have been handled lke others of similar nature…i really feel bad for the young man, but he was warned as the rest of the team was…i also, think alot of pressure from the President and new AD wanted this cleaned up..so to say he is being made a scapegoat, is a little harsh, but i see your point…but they had to start somewhere…and for people saying that he wasn’t a starter, well although he was redshirting, he was going to be in the mix and was being counted on for next year…so people lay off the fact that he wasn’t a starter…you never want to do this to player that you recruited and gave a scholarship too…i do fee for the young man, but the team has been warned and i not sure if the kids will get this through in their heads that this want be tolerated any longer…The problem in having a “0″ tolerance is that these kids will go other places and be good players and probably never get into trouble again…but Coach Richt really had no choice as the medial and dawg nation was coming down on the program…so dawg nation don’t be surprised when this happens even if the incident is not extremely serious…just for the recore, i’m not saying what he did was not serious…it was and he is fortunate that he can learn from it and that it didn’t affect someone else’s life…

Just some helpful info for any of you going to Colorada for the first time. Boulder is higher than Denver at 5430 feet above sea level.
Here are some helpful hints on adjusting th altitude.
About Altitude Sickness
Altitude sickness is hardly something most people prepare for, but it still affects scores of unsuspecting newcomers to Boulder each year. Boulder is staggering 5,430 feet above sea level. At that height, the air pressure is lower making respiration more difficult for some.
Symptoms of altitude sickness:
•Nausea
•Headache
•Diarrhea, Upset Stomach
•Fatigue
•Dizziness
Physical Adjustments to Higher Elevations
Being aware of your elevation and following some common high altitude tips is the best way to reduce the risk of suffering from altitude sickness. The number one way to reduce the risk of sickness is to refrain from any hard physical activity upon arriving to the higher altitude.
I particularly like the idea of no hard physical activity, at this altitude the air pressure is less and it make breathing more difficult, also, panties come flying off faster!!!!

MURPHY,
I have been thinking the same thing, why not use Branden Smith more on offense? Maybe he’s been banged up. Heck, the way Brandon Boykin makes people miss and breaks tackles on kick off returns, I would consider using him on offense!
And what about an end around to Logan Gray and then let him pull up at the last second and throw a pass?? We haven’t tried that yet!

It doesn’t matter who starts or plays running back. Who cares. It would be the same if De’Angelo Tyson started at running back. FIRST, CMR is not going to commit to any kind of running game. CMR wants to throw low percentage passes way down the field. Secondly, Mark Richt’s running plays are SO ill designed that no offensive line could hold their blocks long enough to create an effective play.

Tide, many teams get called for chop blocking, the chop by BenJones was late and uncalled for but, some teams (GA. Tech) gets called for this type block every game.
Ga.Gator. As a witness to the eye gouging by Spikes in Jacksonville, a Gator has no place to even post such about a UGA player.
As far as suspension of Ben Jones,
What did Meyer give Spikes for his mistake? !st quarter suspension from the Vandy game?

Phil, I agree. God fobid we pull anything out of the playbook past page 2. How many times can we run between the tackles on 2nd and long. How can we have one of the most experienced offensive lines in college football but can’t push anyone off the ball. They are getting pushed into the backfield on every run play. How in the world do we have two backs, Caleb King ( broke Herschels yardage record in high school), and Ealey ( broke Herschels touchdown record in high school) and they can’t seem to break a single tackle. These are essentially the same unit that ran all over GA Tech last year. Getting Pay J back will not solve these problems. Richt looks like he’s on prozac most of the time and has zero interest in the outcome of the season. I think we could point to many things, but to me he lost his coaching edge in 2008 when he kept apologizing to Florida and UM for the endzone celebration in the week leading up to the game. He comes across as a pansy, and no coach fears him as a tactician. Bobo’s gotta go, he couldn’t coach at Valdosta. There is zero leadership on this team and that starts with the coaches. Hopefully someone held a players only meeting this week and chewed their fellow players ear. Did we abandon the screen play when Knowshon left for the NFL? We need to get our backs into space and let them make plays. Did our tight ends go into the witness protection program? I like Murray and his grit, but teams are watching film and he will get alot of balls batted down this season with his release. It doesn’t help he’s only 5′10″. I don’t care what the program says his height is. Gotta put him in the shotgun or roll him out of the pocket to be effective. We need to dump the pro set offense and I formation. Lars Tate and Robert Edwards are not in the backfield. It worked for Richt at Florida State, but we don’t have Warwick Dunn. As far as discipline problems, everytime someone breaks a rule, and I don’t care if you take a moped helmet or get a DUI, you turn on the lights at Sanford at 5AM and make the team run steps for two hours. The guy that gets in trouble gets to sleep in instead of run. You’ll see an end to the discipline problems because teamates will then step up and make them accountable. Just some thoughts.

The whole country knows that alabama is the lyingest, cheatenist program in the history of NCAA football. Paul Bear Bryant furthermore cheated the most of any coach. He lyed, cheated, stole, and anything else to win a game. I have personally taken his name and his record out of the history of college football that I am teaching to my 4 children.
Bryant would sign 125 or more high school players to alabama just to keep Auburn Univ from signing a good player. He was a dishonest, mean , person who never did any good to anyone but himself. saban is in the same mold. also finebaum sucks saban.

The fact of the matter is we’re not that good. Last year neither! How do you expect a team with a freshman qb,no returning rusher with over a 1000 yrds, or a receiver who’s put up 1000 yrds to really be improved from last year? I don’t get it. Fact of the matter here is that the talent is here but these kids are playing with no heart. No intensity. Some of you folks have really gotten spoiled. 1. If you haven’t won a nat champ in 30 years, why expect one this year, or next year or the year after ?
2. If 5 stars aren’t getting it done, why keep recruiting 5 stars?
3. If defense wins championships why is everyone upset about the offense ?
4. If the best team in the conf schedules out-of-conference travel games against tougher teams why
schedule Colorado School of the Blind ? How can that make you better ?
5. If you measure the success of the program by wins over FL and you’ve won only 2 times in the past 10 years, why continue with that measurement ?

Stewart, I am a believer that a fan base must always answer the question “And hire whom?” before they talk about firing a coach. If you cannot name a better option than the current guy, forget it. I find myself teetering on the Mark Richt discussion. If he goes, who would be your hire?
– Dave, Atlanta
I’m with you, Dave. If Georgia runs off Richt this year, it will be textbook Clemson/Ole Miss Syndrome. (Note the example cited in that link: Minnesota. How’s that working out?) Historically, Georgia is more prestigious than either of those teams — but not as much as Dawgs fans like to think. In all my travels, I’m not sure I’ve ever come across a fan base whose self-perception is so far from reality. Georgia fashions itself a national power in the vein of Ohio State, USC, et. al., based primarily off one glorious three-year run 30 years ago with Herschel Walker (and some kick-butt years in the 1940s).

Since everyone has thier take on what’s going wrong this season, I thought I would give my take. First, WE DON’T need to fire any of our coaches. Second, the blame can be spread throughout the team, but I do believe we have what it takes be a good team, we just need a change a tweak in our philosophy. So lets start with the offense. I like the idea that we want to be a physical football team and run the ball to set up the play-action. But this can not work if we are not running the ball successfully. To many times we ran the ball when miss state, ark and S Car literally stacked the box on us and dared us to pass the football, but we wouldn’t. I mean we literally ran the ball with carlton thomas 5′ 7” 180 pounds right up the gut and they had 8 or 9 guys in the box and it looked like an all out blitz. The last 2 games we came out trying to establish the run yet we had to throw the ball to get back into the game. I counted a total of 24 pass attempt the last two games in the fourth quarter (this does not include sacks or when murray takes off). We need to come out and establish the pass and let the other team know that we are going to put up points. Instead we insist on milking the clock away and keeping Miss State in the game! Murray and our wide recievers have been the best thing smoking for us yet we insist on running the ball first! Lets pass to set up the run and then play-action off of that. And Murray needs to throw atleast between 30-35 times a game with most of his passes being in the first 3 quarters and then we can be more physical in the fourth. The good thing is we have A.J Green back so I’m sure we’ll throw the ball a lot more early on in the game because we want to get the ball in his hands. So we’ll also do a lot of bubble screens and things like that to get him open. But our recievers have been outstanding and we should’ve been doing these things. After every games coach Richt talks about how well Murray played and handled the pressure under the circumstances. That tells me that our recievers are playing outstanding and it also tells me we need to throw the ball more! Durham is on pace to have a better season than A.J Green has EVER had in his two season, T. King (suspended first game) has 160 and 2TD the last two games, Logan Gray, Marlon Brown and speedy wooten( have been consistent spot recievers although can do more with wooten) and we know how talented our tight ends and full backs can be if we get them the ball! Simply put we need to throw the ball more early and often (bubble screens, reciever screens, whatever!). Another thing I would like to see is more shot gun and more designed runs out of the shotgun. Sometimes, I just want to burn the play action and the I formation, because it seems like once Murray makes the fake he has no time to make a read because there is a player in his face. Being in shotgun would naturally buy him more time until our offensive line can prove it can block better. Now, I’m not bashing my Dawgs because I’m, behind them through thick and thin and I know what we are capable of! But I would love to see a slight change in philosophy on the offensive side of the ball (NOT A CHANGE IN COAHCES)!

How do you know Murray is 5′ 10″???????? Have you stood next to him? Have you seen him out and about some where? Just where do you and the other jerks come off making such a statement! I know Murray, and I am 5′ 10 1/2″ and he is a good three inches taller than I am. BTW, just how many balls have been batted down? QB’s throw through lanes, they don’t try to throw over any linemen. Take a defensive guy 6′ 5″ and then have him raise his hands over his head and we’ll just say they are 24″ long. So, now we have a d-lineman, who with arms raised, is now 8′ 5″ tall. How many 9′ QB’s do you know genius? So you don’t like Murray, just come out and say it, but don’t try to pretend that you know anything about football.

Richt knows what the deal is. He negotiated a huge pay raise about three years back and in that same period, the UGA program ( from his earlier levels ) it has dropped like a baseball from a table.
His players are not SEC caliber. Llok at how they perform on TV vs small schools like MSU. We have lost to nearly every SEC school over the last 1.4 years gang. Stop with all of this top 5 recruting crap. A school can sign one fabulous QB and one fabulous wide out and one fabulous safety and one fabulous kicker and one fabulous lineman and be rated as a top top 5 recruiting year. Look into these examples ………QBs do not block, safeties do not block and where are the running backs??? Can Walsh block? We know that Ealey cannot block. AJ cannot because he has been suspended. Who needs him anyway? He is gone come February, so give him a jump on that. He could care less …………so turn him loose.

Since when does hitting a parked car and taking off make you a thug? What are you really trying to say? Actually…. I’d rather not go there!
As far as the break dancing, I didnt see that. But where you at the BlackOut game or anygame UGA game for that matter? Maybe, the 92000 plus people in the stadium are thugs to! “Crank that Soldier Boy!”

John Gruden is a name that brings instant credability to a program. It’s a draw to recruits looking to pursue a career after college. He would bring a no nonsense attitude to the players (no more arrests). And, a healthy fear of do your job or get out of the way.
All of the above are lacking in the current situation. Don’t get me wrong, CMR is a great man in all aspects, but when you lose control of your program, and lack leadership in your program it’s a recipe for disaster.

Next, you conveniently left out the overall Fla record of 2-7, yes, 3-1 against Alabama with 2 wins pre Saban and the Saban win in Saban’s first year, a year they lost to UL Monroe. LSU broke even 3-3 but 1-2 in the last 3, Again my argument is the program is dropping off from a level that didn’t even justify a salary that national champions get….my alma mater is overpaying for him….

I left out UF because the entire world knows our struggles with Florida! Didn’t know I had to bring that up! I also said we are 3-1 versus Bama! You can break it down however its convenient for you. 1-1 versus Bama under Saban isnt saying we can’t hang with Bama! And WE ARE 2-3 versus LSU and 2-1 our last 3. Make sure you double check yourself and not try to correct me, because my stats are RIGHT! He’s not overpayed.

At his current salary, the program should have been maintained as a Top 10 program if not playing in the BCS championship game which has operated since 1998. In that time, the SEC has by far the most representation with 6 teams, none by Georgia…Fla (2), LSU (2), Ala and Tenn….

Thats because of the respect that college football has for the SEC now! Its almost a forgone conclusions that the winner of the SEC will play in the National Championship Game! Whether they have 0,1 or 2 (LSU, which we may have been in if it weren’t for a conference title game, but that a different discussion) losses! I wish it was like that in 02′ and 05′. We may have had two! And Auburn may have had one more! But the times have changed and college football now respects the SEC!

Actually HD, we’re both wrong…over the last 4 games Ga is 3-1 heads (wins in 2008, 2005 and 2004 and loss in 2009) up against LSU so which is very good but offset by the Florida record but LSU has played for the NC and Ga hasn’t and nowhere near it now but the other 3 are….again my point CMR is not earning his current pay comparative to those programs….

Historically, Georgia is more prestigious than either of those teams — but not as much as Dawgs fans like to think. In all my travels, I’m not sure I’ve ever come across a fan base whose self-perception is so far from reality. Georgia fashions itself a national power in the vein of Ohio State, USC, et. al., based primarily off one glorious three-year run 30 years ago with Herschel Walker.

BOBO! Good quaterback yes. Good coach? Not Hardly. The sooner Richt takes over the playcalling, the sooner things will start to turn around. You gotta admit he is a offensive genius. Why he has not been calling the plays all alone I dont know. The talent on the team is definatly there, they just need to use in Richts way not BOBO’s….And Ealy does have the speed but when 70% of the game BOBO is calling up the gut running the opponent will catch on and shut you down. It dont matter who is running the ball. You have to mix it up…Just think about it what has happened when they have run a pitch or sweep? THATS RIGHT 20+ yards everytime. Three and out on dive plays, give me a break BOBO. He is not cut out for the position for play calling. So maybe its time for new offensive coaching staff. But no matter what happens this season GO DAWGS.

Ealey needs to wake up. He’s a force. He needs some confidence. He needs to run like he can. Needs to protect the football.
Ealey gives the Dogs swagger when he plays at his best.
Suddenly Saturdays
September 30th, 2010

Well it looks like my Saturdays are free for at least two more years. Poor Aaron Murray will not get better next year as he will not have any offensive line and there will be no A.J. “Need a Thou Now, Can’t Wait For My 50 Mil Later” Green. Aaron will show marked improvement, if he is still alive, by his Junior year, but will still be running for his life from the more improved teams in the SEC.
So by Murray’s Senior year in 2013, Georgia should field a competitive team, unless Bobo is still around sucking a paycheck to feed his 9+ kids.

The problem is not with Ealey. Their are a lot problems with the team mainly is the offensive line play. What was suppose to be the strongest part of the team has turned out to be the reason why we can’t run the football. They need to step it up for the running game to have a chance of winning.

nows not the time to point fingers all the players are young and some one on each side of the ball needs to teach the team to come together and play the game as a team, since knowshow and stafford things have been out of whack because of there ability, georgia football is a team effort not an individual effort and all the sidewalk fans are not making it any easier its time to come together as a team win or loosw and learn the game of football all over again and play as a team then things will fall into place (and getting rid of bobo wouldnt hurt either searles as well hes still mad for not getting the dc posistion) i still say go dawgs time to rethink the plan !!

Fumble caused by a “slip in technique”? Really?
A slipped disk in his back maybe after that hit by Nickoe Whitley, is more like it, that sent his helmet, mouthpiece, and the football into the air and him sitting upright on the goal line — too stunned to even fall on the ball!

Chill-Out, It could be worse. You could have lost to Louisiana Laugh-a-lot. I told you before the season that you had no QB or running backs. It is showing up now. I can’t believe that you lost to Missy State. Of all the teams that team prevented you guys from being the bottom feeder. Well guess what, you are the bottom feeder now.
