Georgia-Oregon games canceled; Georgia-Tennessee game time set

Georgia and Oregon have agreed to cancel a home-and-home football series that was scheduled in 2015 and 2016.

Georgia athletic director Greg McGarity said today that the decision was a mutual one between him and Oregon athletic director Rob Mullens.

On Georgia’s end, the move reflects McGarity’s preference to have seven home games each season. The 2015 game was to have been played in Eugene, Ore., and the 2016 game in Athens.

Since both schools wanted out of the series, no buyout was involved, McGarity said.

“It had to be a win-win,” McGarity said. “I don’t feel comfortable at all about buying out contracts. . . . If [Mullens] had said, ‘We really need to play these games,’ then they would still be on the schedule. We would not [buy out contracts]; I don’t think that’s the right thing to do as an institution.”

The Georgia-Tennessee football game in Athens on Oct. 9 will kick off at 12:21 p.m. and be televised by the SEC Network, it was announced today.

The game, of course, will mark the return of a Dooley to the sideline at Sanford Stadium — Tennessee coach Derek Dooley, son of  legendary former Georgia coach and athletic director Vince Dooley.

The game will be Georgia’s third at home this season. The first two also had noon-ish kickoffs.

Tennessee is 2-2 (0-1 SEC) and plays at LSU on Saturday. Georgia is 1-3 (0-3 SEC) and plays a non-conference game at Colorado on Saturday.

CBS will televise either the Alabama-South Carolina or LSU-Florida game at 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 9, with the other at 7:30 p.m. on either ESPN or ESPN2. CBS will choose between the two games by Sunday.

Saturday’s Georgia-Colorado game in Boulder will kick off at 7:10 p.m. ET and be televised on Fox Sports Net.

No one wants to watch the battle for last place in the SEC East. Yes, Vandy and Kentucky may beat BOTH teams.

Nice. This season is so bad that the UGA – UT game is the 4th or 5th pick for SEC games of the day. Thanks for all of the effort, guys.

Who knows, the winner of this game may still be able to run the table and be in the mix for a Jan. 1 bowl.

7:00 pm start in Colorado and early start against UT. Sounds like a prescription for a UT win to me.

Doesn’t matter who wins last place in the SEC (isn’t that what this game is about?) thUGA stole the Fulmer Cup and renamed it the Richt Cup.

And no, it can’t be stolen back – thUGA isn’t done taking a commanding lead to keep it.

This starting time says it all……I’m amazed it’s on TV. I would like to say this would be a pivotal game for CMR, but which ones won’t be………………………..Maybe we run the table here on out.

Hey Ralph….Why don’t you get your season tickets at Tech, I saw they had about 15,000 empty seats Saturday against N.C. State. I am sure there is one there with your name on it.

This has been the most crappiest year ever for me.

I spend so much time and money for this to go on. We wait all year for efforts like this. Now we have no hope and its not even Ocotober yet. You can blame the University for all the noon kickoffs. If you don’t think they have something to do with it you are crazy. All because a $25 million dollar profit organazation doesn’t want to pay minimum wage for people to pick up trash.

Something has to change!

We need to be on the program “How it’s UnMade”. The show would feature Richt describing in detail how he recruits great talent and then works really hard at ensuring these students either get arrested or get no better.

It can’t get much worse. UGA is losing all respectability.

I mean, it was sickening, watching the game Saturday night, but, really, was any realistic Dawg fan really surprised?

If we keep playing the way we have been we will be playing on Thursday night next year. Or even worse, the ACC might try to get us to join their conference.

Anyone else noticed the Tech fool who thinks a score from 2 years ago is relevant? This team might not beat many other groups—but it WILL beat the Nerds in November. You can count on it. And I actually believe they will beat Colorado, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Kentucky and Idaho State as well to finish 7-5 and Richt will earn the same “significant improvement” command that Coach Dooley leveled at Ray Goff.

I’m not with the fire CMR crowd. But i am with the make serious changes with the program crowd. CMR has won two SECC and finished in the Top 10 6 times. There would be no other coach available out there with those resumes. Both Kirby Smart and Will Muschamp have zero experience as head coaches and would be huge risks. Personally, i think we need to scrap the pro-style offense and implement the spread. We need to replace Bobo and pay megabucks for a hot shot coordinator. Defensively, i think we will be fine and should be much better next year under Grantham.

I am going to try and come up with another pithy title like I did last week when I announced it was the “Bulldog Basement Bowl”. On a positive note, we did win that game and we are now in the basement of SEC programs.
