Georgia-Oregon games canceled; Georgia-Tennessee game time set

Georgia and Oregon have agreed to cancel a home-and-home football series that was scheduled in 2015 and 2016.

Georgia athletic director Greg McGarity said today that the decision was a mutual one between him and Oregon athletic director Rob Mullens.

On Georgia’s end, the move reflects McGarity’s preference to have seven home games each season. The 2015 game was to have been played in Eugene, Ore., and the 2016 game in Athens.

Since both schools wanted out of the series, no buyout was involved, McGarity said.

“It had to be a win-win,” McGarity said. “I don’t feel comfortable at all about buying out contracts. . . . If [Mullens] had said, ‘We really need to play these games,’ then they would still be on the schedule. We would not [buy out contracts]; I don’t think that’s the right thing to do as an institution.”

The Georgia-Tennessee football game in Athens on Oct. 9 will kick off at 12:21 p.m. and be televised by the SEC Network, it was announced today.

The game, of course, will mark the return of a Dooley to the sideline at Sanford Stadium — Tennessee coach Derek Dooley, son of  legendary former Georgia coach and athletic director Vince Dooley.

The game will be Georgia’s third at home this season. The first two also had noon-ish kickoffs.

Tennessee is 2-2 (0-1 SEC) and plays at LSU on Saturday. Georgia is 1-3 (0-3 SEC) and plays a non-conference game at Colorado on Saturday.

CBS will televise either the Alabama-South Carolina or LSU-Florida game at 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 9, with the other at 7:30 p.m. on either ESPN or ESPN2. CBS will choose between the two games by Sunday.

Saturday’s Georgia-Colorado game in Boulder will kick off at 7:10 p.m. ET and be televised on Fox Sports Net.

Colorado – really does it matter..
Tennessee – should be a good game due to the fact they have less players than most high schools and plays some both ways
Vandy – can’t believe UGA has fallen to level of worry on this game
Kentucky – never worried about them before…ever…win – so what
Florida – Miss going to Jax with a purpose of winning…
Idaho State – Should not count as a win….ever at UGA..don’t want to be on that level
Auburn – Always meant something…Auburn’s gaining confidence and plays hard enough to win
Tech – still sucks…used to be guaranteed beat down..who gave them a reason to cheer

CMR has lost the expectations of the Bulldawg Nation…Emotional victories and the right to HATE everyone because they hate UGA for beating their a$$…Go Dawgs!

Winderdogg, Are you serious? The only reason Auburn would win is because they are gaining confidence? Not because they have better players and are better coached? Its because of confidence? If thats the case Ga had no confidence they were going to beat MSU did they?
Florida ? really ? When was the last time you went to Jax and thought you could win ?” Homer”.
Kentucky. Didnt they beat you last year ? Why would this one be different?
Georgia hasnt beaten an SEC teams A$$ in a long time. I can name a few that have beaten UGA’s A$$ a few times and Tennessee is one of them in recent memory !

This shoulda been....

Nice to know the MUTTS can sleep-in for the COLORADO game. The later KICK may allow the dawgs to be rested or Arrested.
Why has RUSS been on the NET looking for the closest AUTOZONE and pricing ANTIFREEZE?
The VOL game being a NOON+ will keep the UGA fans from being so drunk.
BARBRA can have her breakfast and take her time putting on her ORANGE.
What do you bet BARBRA serves Vince Orange Juice as the breakfast drink with FRIED BOLOGNA as the main course?

USN VOL you should have backed NAVY. The Srevice Academys have class and smart players. The SEC not so much. If you become a Shore Patrol you might get to meet some of the Vol and UGA players.

I was born on UT’s campus at the hospital right above Clement Hall. I went to school there, I bleed orange white. I also lived in GA for about 18 years so I have a LARGE vested interest in this game. I will say I have adopted Navy alongside UT.

Do they play Rocky Top in Colorado after every score like UT? I don’t think I can stand that any better than the all those cowbells last week, and having to hear it for the annual UT beatdown AGAIN along with Florida and Auburn.

Maybe we’ll just not show up for the second halves (like last week).

UGA football team bails on another tough opponent:

“The cancellation is a move away from Georgia’s philosophy under former athletic director Damon Evans of scheduling high-profile nonconference games in other regions of the country.”

Look for more weaker teams to be scheduled to shore up wins for declining UGA football program.

What a pity!

Diffficult to determine which is the most overrated, Tech or UGA? At least UGA is losing to decent teams that have done something recently. Kansas? Sure, in basketball. N.C. State? Sure in basketball when they had David Thompson and when later when they had a great coach.

But losing to those team in football? Perhaps both state schools need to transfer to the Big Least.

I don’t want us to EVER be on a sole football night on an ESPN national audience where the whole country laughs at us instead of just some from the Southeast on Jefferson pilot at noon while other games are being watched. Besides, most people skip those noon games – better for us to play then.

Sorry to see that the Oregon games won’t be played. Went to Tempe and Stillwater the last two years and had a great turnout of Georgia fans at both. I’ll be in Boulder by Wednesday! I understand having seven home games make sense, but please try to schedule a respectable opponent and not some of those schools Florida plays. As for Richt, I have been to every game he has coached. At this point, he has 8 games to prove to me he deserves to be back next year. 5-3 won’t be enough for me in the next 8. He needs to show improvement each week as well. He got a break last year and was allowed to make the changes he felt he had to. Obviously, many more changes needed to be made at that time and he didn’t see it. Now is the time to make it happen.

Being out of state now don’t know if Reidsville State Prison still exists or not, but if it does, that would be a very appropriate place to move the game to. I’m sure they have a suitable field there, and you just know they would have a “captive” audience. MR and DD could even do some recruiting while there.

I was looking forward to the home and home with Oregon. Being a season ticket holder for years, I am not wanting a 7th. home cream puff game. A game like Florida Atlantic or Tenn Tech cost me a miminum of $160.00 for four tickets which I won’t even use. I really enjoyed playing Ok State, AR State, Colorado, and Universities away from the South. Right now, we are getting ready to travel to Colorado for the game on Saturday. So Bullcrap on a 7th. home cream pull game.
