A Sunday morning roundup of the AJC’s coverage of Georgia’s loss to Mississippi State:
My game story, which notes the Bulldogs are on their first three-game losing streak in 20 years:
STARKVILLE, Miss. — Bad turned to worse — much worse — for Georgia’s football team here Saturday night.
The Bulldogs lost their third consecutive game in an already ugly season, failing to score a touchdown until it was too late to matter and falling to Mississippi State 24-12.
The loss was Georgia’s first in Starkville since 1951 and first anywhere to Mississippi State since 1974, and it gave the Bulldogs (1-3, 0-3 SEC) their first three-game losing streak since 1990 and first 0-3 SEC record since 1993.
Jeff Schultz’s column, which notes the Dogs are 2-7 in their past nine SEC games:
… The Bulldogs are 0-3 in the SEC. They stand alone in the conference in that regard. Behind Mississippi State, behind Vanderbilt, behind the schools you used to joke about. They are no longer the team that can beat everybody except Alabama and Florida. They are the team that can lose to every team well below Alabama and Florida.
… This is about more than one assistant coach or one suspended player. Once again, Richt did not have his team ready to play. The Dogs should have played desperate. They didn’t. They certainly didn’t play smart or play well.
Paul Jones’ sidebar on Washaun Ealey’s latest goal-line debacle, which kept the Bulldogs from scoring a first-quarter touchdown:
STARKVILLE, Miss. — This time, Washaun Ealey’s fumble into the opponent’s end zone came in the first quarter. It was the second time that situation arose for Georgia’s sophomore tailback, and as in the South Carolina game, it was a critical play.
My notebook, which covers the return of a number of players from injury, the continued absence of A.J. Green, the cowbells and this nugget:
Georgia has more former players currently serving as captains of NFL teams than any other school.
That’s according to a report by the Dallas Morning News, which counted the colleges of the 124 players who were elected full-season captains by votes of their teammates on 26 NFL teams.
. . . “We have a great coach, a great leader at Georgia [in Mark Richt],” Matthew Stafford, a Detroit Lions captain, told the Dallas paper. “It probably rubs off on us.”
Transcript of Mark Richt’s post-game news conference, including this comment:
“But we’ve also got to look within, starting with me, as to the things that have kept us from having the success that we want. That’s what we’re going to do.”
And a photo gallery from the game, including this shot:

I thought going into this season that the tandem of Hamilton and Rambo would bring us back to the Greg Blue days but all they have done so far is give me the blues.

Offensive philosophy-
Get the ball into the playmaker’s hands….
Did anyone see Branden Smith on offense last night ? you know….without AJ we needed a playmaker or two…..

you dog poops last season laughed at the GT win over Ms St and like every win they earned you would run your mouth how the opponent wasn’t any good although before the game you would run your mouth how GT was going to get beat. So if I find this comical losing at Ms St then I have a right, what goes around comes around

Boys will be boys. You have to control them, teach them, coach them. Again, its not the players it the coaches. coach Richt is burned out or has some hiddeen personal problem (divorce?). He has lost control. The best for UGA is to fire now, bring in new blood and build for the future. It looks to me like a new coach brought in now would do no worse the Richt is doing. I’m a Tech fan but I feel your pain and want to play a strong UGA team in Nov. The state needs a strong Georgia and a strong Georgia Tech.

This program has arrived at it’s lowest point in the modern era. When you consider all of the alleged talent & the high dollar coaches, one has to wonder how the fans have been suckered into believing the hype!
Remember two weeks ago when UGA lost to S. Carolina? it was because they had the GREATEST freshman running back in the HISTORY of college football ….. WELL, this past Saturday against Auburn, the Greatest freshman running back in the history of college football rushed for 33 yards on 14 carries!!
And then against Arkansas, UGA lost to the BEST quarterback in the country …. WELL, this past weekend, in Fayetteville, before his home crowd, the BEST quarterback in the country blew a 20 – 7 lead with two terrible interceptions!!
Then against the vaunted offense & much feared defense of Mississippi State, UGA gave up 24 points & couldn’t score a touchdown until 1 minute to go in the game! PATHETIC!
This team & organization has pulled the wool over all of our eyes. While the other SEC schools are out getting good players & making them better, UGA is more worried about who is gonna be arrested or suspended! You have a coaching staff that is one of the highest paid in the country & they are producing results that are at the bottom of their league!
People whine & cry that “if we only had AJ Greene, we would be so much better”! YEAH RIGHT!! While he could probably run block, tackle, pass cover & devise better offensive schemes, non of these are included in the roll of wide receiver. Besides, it was his own idiotic actions that got him suspended!
So you fans keep drinking the koolaid & believing that it’s gonna get better! HA HA HA! It’s not.
If it looks like a duck & quacks like a duck & swims like a duck … IT’S A DUCK! This is team(?) that has been over-valued as high schoolers & poorly coached as players by an overpaid coaching staff.
I have attended 121 straight games (home & away). I have never missed a game in the Mark Richt era. I am a DAWG to the core. But, Colorado will be my last road trip with the current regime. I have had alot of great times & suffered through some low times as well. However, through it all, I always had the belief that UGA had a leader to keep the competitive & bring them back. I no longer feel that way.
The problem with this team starts at the top. Richt has had 10 years to have a system in place, recruit the right players, get the right assistants & get this program where it needs to be. Hell, he has $3 million reasons!! But he is not getting it done.
Anyway, you diehards keep on drinking that koolaid they are passing out!! While your at it, get a fresh sheet of paper out to keep tallying up those arrests!

I believe CMR should have let Bobo go with the other coaches last year and should have gotten a real OC but this makes you think maybe He doesnt want to get a good OC , thinks maybe it might make Him look bad as an OC but He should remember he is the Head coach and should have the best coaches He can get, winning games is what He is being paid high money for is a friend that cant perform as coaching worth losing His on job, others head coaches changes coaches all the time ” DISAPPOINTED BIG DAWG”

I think that Mark Richt kicking Demetre Baker off the team after one offense was wrong. I know that he is frustrated with the poor showing at Miss State and he fed up with the DUI’’s, etc. but Baker was kicked off the team for doing far less than some of the players that only got suspended for two games..It is a difficult situation but this was his first offense and he is a freshman. Suspend him for 3 games the first time and kick him off the team the second time. We all deserve a second chance.

cmac and you other closet Nerds and Reptiles need to take your hate some where else. You are all hypocrites. I doubt if any of you ever played a single down of football in your pathetic little lives. UGA lost a very close game to Arkansas – and #1 ranked Bama was lucky to escape Arkansas with a win on a couple of questionable calls by the refs. Arkansas dominated Bama for 3 1/2 quarters. Losing after such a great effort to Arkansas took a lot out of Georgia and they played hard the 1st half against Miss State but couldn’t get in the end zone. We are loyal to the Dawgs and Richt and we KNOW that UGA will rebound from this.

Georgia Bulldogs are SOOO bad, they would probably get beaten by the Georgia State Panthers. Kentucky and Vanderbilt, could beat them, with one hand tied behind their back. The only bowl, the Georgia Bulldogs, will be going to is the TOILET BOWL, THEY STINK.

ga. chick, I’m calling you out. It’s none of your business what I do or do not do. I am not the head coach of a fabled program in last place in the SEC drawing three million dollars a year.
You are factually incorrect. Mark Richt does not practice what he preaches. He is a slickster of the first order. He cannot coach, manage, discipline, motivate, or lead his players or coaching staff to the performance standards expected of the Bulldog Nation. UGA is the 7th best football program in NCAA history. It is disappointing that so many Dawg fans seem to be intoxicated by da Preacha Man’s sweet elixir of Koolaid. If the fan base does not demand results, you need to stay intoxicated because the Dawgs will lose until we hire a real ball coach. How many SEC teams would trade their coach for Markt Richt? Answer: None of them…

Richt needs to dismiss every player who was arrested off the team. We can recruit responsible players next year with more scholarships. This includes AJ Green. We don’t need convicts to lose…

And you ran me out of town because I lost a couple of non SEC

Is Green going to play defense now? What an idiot.

Holy cow! There is just no defending any of that crap from Saturday night.
I did not get to see the game. How ever just looking at the stats it appears that we had the passing game going on fairly early. What happened to that? Did we turn it over to the run?
Bring on Idaho State. I think.

When your football team is going to finish a season with more arrests than wins, you may need to take a look at what your doing. See you guys in Jacksonville, it’s going to be a very long day for you

I weigh in like cmac…I have always, until now, given Coach Richt a “pass” becasue I believe he is a fine man with a good value system. I would be happy to have my son play for such a man. However, my son is not the same quality individual that many of the current Dawgs are. The current dawgs are recruited, it seems, mostly based on talent. Talent without character in many instances. The most recent arrest (assuming there has not been one today) is an example. Richt is also trying to make an example of the player. I am willing to bet that they have already discovered that the kid is not as he seemed from a football perspective, so they can throw him out and try to make a statement. A real statement would be to send AJ packing…however far $1000 will take him. Compliance officvers make it very clear what you can and can not do, and in his case the “agent” designation has nothing to do with the suspension or transgression. Richt looks disinterested, as do his players. Football is an emotional, violent game. Once on the field, it is very difficult to raise the level of excitment or emotion. The Dawgs are consistantly not prepared for the games they play.
Time for a new “Head Dawg” I an sorry to say. I wish Coach Richt and his family the very best, but believe we would be better off chasing the rest of the SEC with a different type of leader.

I will not get off Coach Richt’s back! He should have better control of his players. He’s the coach, he needs to bring some discipline to his team. They run amok and he seems to care less. If he is homesick for Florida, as has been stated by some here, then he needs to get back to Florida. What was he doing here anyway, if he loves Florida so much? He has done a great job in the past, but was it just luck and good players? Who knows? I say it is time for a change in the coaching staff for UGA. I hate the way things are looking now. I used to proud to be a Bulldog fan, but not any longer. ROLL TIDE!!!!

Tired of not blowing out the teams we should smash! Our team looks lazy and slow except for Murray, Durham, and Gray. Wake up coaches and rest of team and play with some heart, hustle and toughness! Watch Boise state and that is how they get it done!

We are looking at 4-4 or 5-3 heading to Jacksonville.
I thought we had a shot to hang with the gators and maybe pull one out hoping that the defense would get better by the end of the year.
now I say, just keep it respectable.
We can win the next one.
then go to auburn and watch Newton break the streak.
Then watch Tech run it down our throats while Murray plays Eric Zeier and tries to score enough to offset the defense.
Murray=Zeier
We have to stop recruiting morons like Ealey. We have to start doing what happened to Baker to all the players, regardless of year, playing status, ability etc.
Bobo must be fired.
Richt has to go back to calling plays and take this team over.
If he is not willing to do that, then he should leave too.
I’m hoping he is willing.
