Miss. State coach recruited Murray for Gators (and lots more notes)
9:51 am September 24, 2010, by Tim Tucker
Cleaning out the notebook before heading to Starkville:
- If Dan Mullen, the Mississippi State coach and former Florida offensive coordinator, had gotten his way, Aaron Murray would be a Gator. Mullen said this week that he has known Murray since the UGA QB was a freshman at Plant High School in Tampa. That’s when Murray came on the Gators’ recruiting radar.
“Watching him develop now,” Mullen said, “you see a guy who has a lot of talent, has a very, very strong arm and has the athletic ability to improvise and get himself out of trouble and make plays with his legs.”
- One day this week, Kris Durham was wearing the gear of two of pro sports’ losingest franchises — a Detroit Lions T-shirt and a Kansas City Royals cap. There’s an explanation. Durham’s former roommate is Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford, and his brother-in-law is Royals relief pitcher Blake Wood.
- On the practice field early this week, defensive backs coach Scott Lakatos was heard reminding his players, loudly: “380! You gave up 380 [passing] yards last game!”
- Georgia and Mississippi State are the only teams that are 0-2 in the SEC. The other teams that have played two conference games are LSU (2-0) and Vanderbilt (1-1).
- It has been 20 years since Georgia lost three games in a row.
- Georgia was on a two-game losing streak the last time it played Mississippi State, too. Georgia won 27-24 on Oct. 21, 2006, in Athens as freshman Stafford threw two TD passes and defensive end Charles Johnson stripped the ball from MSU QB Michael Henig at the UGA 23 in the final seconds.
- Georgia opponents have committed only one turnover the past two weeks. Mississippi State committed five against LSU last week.
- Akeem Dent said he doesn’t get over a loss “till I get the next win. . . . You have a nasty taste in your mouth until you get the next victory.”
- Georgia players will get to do something Saturday they haven’t been able to do before any game this season: sleep in a bit. It’s the Bulldogs’ first night game of the season.
- Surprised that, after three games, Rantavious Wooten has only two catches for 14 yards.
- Saturday night’s game will be played in the nation’s second oldest Division I-A on-campus football stadium. Mississippi State’s Davis Wade Stadium was built in 1914, making it one year younger than Georgia Tech’s Bobby Dodd Stadium. “We are going,” Mark Richt said, “to the home of the cowbells.”

Hate to say it Dawg fans…Miss St. 24-Georgia 17. Georgia wil continue to improve even with this loss and will probably knock off Florida in November, but they will also lose to Kentucky in Lexington and also Auburn and will close the season with a win over Tech.

Yes you could post outcomes from the past decade, but they wouldn’t be relevant. The score from 2 years ago is of UTMOST relevance, seeing as how that was the score the last time we played BETWEEN THE SHRUBS. Where are we playing the game this year??

Although SC and Arkansas have their best team in years, Mark Richt’s inability to motivate his players the past fie seasons will yield a third straight loss. Take Miss State minus the 1 point as your lock of the week. These kids will be playing with a lot less desire tomorrow night. UGA players are convinced each year by the pinheads that it’s national championship or nothing. I blame Richt for that nonsense as well. Focus on the SEC East! He should teach them to take their dam press clippings and toss them in the trash when they hit campus…just like drill sergeant Nick Saban does. Richt still has the FSU syndrome, a disease that worked great for FSU in a watered-down ACC (no Va Tech or Miami and only an occasional competitive game against Tech and UNC). Mark Richt will not only NEVER win a national title at Georgia, he will not win another SEC title prior to his resignation (which will come by the 2012 season if not sooner).

Yes, we do need a new coach. Mark Richt is a great GUY not COACH. He has been here for 10 years now. With UGA’s talent, we should have won a title by now. Im sorry, but 10 years is long enough to get it right. Its time to go coach, and take Bobo with you.

Matthew Stafford is an Agent giving Kris Durham the T-Shirt, right ?
Scott Lakatos would have been better served studying Arky’s pass offense against 15 of his UGA defensive players from last year’s tape of the game, than sitting here blaming the PLAYERS for the 380 yards given up by the same 15 defenders AGAIN this year to the SAME QUARTERBACK.
Aaron Murray is just great. We have played 2 SEC teams so far, and BOTH had BETTER QUARTERBACKS than we have.
2-game LOSING STREAK for UGA the last time we played Mississippi State, well what I have to offer on that one is, we had NO QUARTERBACK PREPARED for that 2006 season either, and we LOST 4 games that year 2006 thank you very much.
Georgia is MINUS 1 in the turnover department today against SEC teams, having LOST both games with now -1 vs SEC teams. Aaron Murray now has 2 interceptions and a fumble for the season, well on track to keep up the average 13 interceptions now for the 5th season in a row. And, that is the PLAYERS’ fault ?
BLAMING IT ON THE PLAYERS, has been the MANTRA of Coach Richt’s “coaching staff” and TIM TUCKER provides no comment about Nick Williams saying NO, it’s the Coach Richt “COACHING STAFF” who is to blame, NOT the PLAYERS.
1-5 vs last 6 SEC East teams.
10-11 vs last 20 SEC East teams.
2-6 vs last 8 SEC teams.
God Almighty damn, we are great.

Coach Richt has not done a DAMN THING since the last of the Jim Donnan recruits went on to the NFL after the 2005 season. Nothing but have every SEC East team beat the crap out of him, while he sits there and tells us how great Caleb King is going to be this game. Thanks Caleb, real nice, after the SEASON IS OVER for Coach Richt already.

Steve Babik….first Steve Babik was not the voice of the Gators. He was a sideline reporter….and really a pervert.
Second….the Gators will be a fraud when they are 1-2 and have lost to both South Carolina and Arkansas (or some other good SEC team like Kentucky…which might happen this weekend if the Gators do not play better. When your team is not playing well and is 1-2…don’t rag on another team that is 3-0. At least let them be 3-1 first. Otherwise…it sounds like sour grapes…which it obviously is.

Les Miles….I think I have clearly stated….several times on here lately….that the Gators are stinking it up this year as a whole team. But they are still 3-0 and getting better. The problem is not John Brantley….it has been…in my opinion….largely the offensive cooridinator who is calling unimaginative plays, calling them way too late in relation to the play clock, injuries on the offensive line, poor center play, and lack of consistent WR play…which got a whole lot better last week. I expect the Gator offense will play better this week…and the problem is not the Gator D…which right now is one of the best in the country.

I tried to tell you guys about Lakatos. He got the UGA job off the SC/UCONN game where the perception was that he shot down Spurrier’s passing game. Wrong, Spurrier’s receivers had 9 critical drops while wide open. He was lucky but it got him a better job with his buddy.

Its time for CMR to go. Period! For all those who continue to harp on the success Richt had up until 2005, ask yourself this question: if you did great job in the business world years ago but were a lousy performer the last four years, how much job security would you have? Have you ever heard the saying, “what have you done for me lately.” In case you haven’t noticed, UGA has now lost 6 of their last 8 SEC games.

BAMA STAN…………………………………..There is a big difference in what you are saying. CMR is no Nick Saban and Grantham is no Kirby Smart. No comparison here to what you are saying. UGA is in a downward spiral while BAMA is in a upward spiral. UGA needs a new coach. Next year should be the telling story on if CMR stays. I watched BAMA play all of there games and the amount of freshmen and redshirt freshmen is incredible. Those freshmen have grown up quick, but when you are getting 4-5 star recruits they need to play.
The guy that got a interception against Penn State is a walkon. That shows you that Saban plays no favorites there. A walkon I am sure beat a bunch of 3-5 stars and is playing on a regular basis,
9 players from GEORGIA on BAMA squad. Very good players in Alabama but CMR has maybe 1-2 players from BAMA. He needs to recruit BAMA strong if he wants to win and recruit nationally.
How about CHANCE WARMACK -WESTLAKE HIGH SCHOOL-ATLANTA……….In the starting offensive line.

Saban’s schedule is a physchological hammer. He is saying “you guys in the SEC don’t challenge us any more” and largely he’s correct. This conference has been about two teams beating up on the other 10 for the past 5 years.
Just think what effect these games will have on recruiting. What player would possibly turn down Bama ?
He’s also signalling a new era. No more of the “schedule weak out of conf opponents” syndrome.
The Bama schedule strength alone will allow them 1-2 loses and they will still play for the nat champ.

TheXman, I like your way of thinking. I’ve said many many times that UGA is a STACKED football team this year and have more raw talent than any other NCAA team in the country. We have a young QB in Murray and he’s already showing Heisman qualities for the future. MB should never have called him out when Murray doesn’t call the plays. When you have a strong O backfield that had proven they could run the ball well against Arkansas, you don’t throw downfield back to back with 2 minutes to go and you only have to get in fieldgoal range for the win. We have a placekicker that can kick 60 yd fieldgoals and we didn’t have THAT far to go. MB is obviously the problem here and I think MR should take over playcalling. If we can learn how NOT to drop coverage on the long pass and stop making STUPID mistakes, I really believe we can run out the rest of the season with only the 2 losses on record. It starts today!!!!

The UGA football Bulldogs have hit rock bottom! It simply does not get any worse than this shet. Time to fire not only Mark Wretch and Mike Dodo but the whole bunch of clueless losers! This was a total embarrassment from start to finish. What is it with that idiot #3? The football was less than a foot from him. All he has to do is make one football play, one, for a touchdown! How did this ignoramus get into college. Oh. I forgot. It is UGA also known as Thug U! Completely unspirited debacle. Enough to make every true Bulldog fan outraged. I AM! Very much so. This cannot be tolerated. Firings are long past due. Bulldogs are official laughingstock of Southeastern Conference! Truly sad. I am too utterly disgusted and nauseated to comment further. Damn this!

i love georgia football. i can accept being beaten by a better team. i cannot however continue to watch this team be outplayed by every opponent. Against south carolina we were beaten and battered by a freshman running back. This was caused by the lack of physical practices during training camp. you cannot expect these players to be ready for the southeastern conference without putting them through hell in practice. Against Arkansas, our highly touted offensive line was embarrassed by a mediocre defense. running backs missing blocks killed our offense. I am most frustrated with mike bobo not relying on the running game, no team we have played has had to respect the run, not just because of the lack of productivity, but also the lack of running plays called. tonight we were outplayed not by a superior football team, but by a team with more heart. As a georgia fan i am sick of the lack of fire and heart exhibited by our players. X’s and O’s be damned where is the georgia attitude of 2007? Coaches can teach and gameplan ,but at some point the players have to check theirselves and play with a little pride and passion. Watching Alabama today i didnt see any great scheme, but instead i saw a group of players who carried out each assignment at 100 mph and played with pride and a refusal to be beaten. This is on the players, the offensive and defensive lines in particular. Attitude starts in the trenches, and violence is long past due.
