Georgia an underdog at Mississippi State?

Georgia has not lost a football game to Mississippi State since 1974. Georgia has not lost in Starkville, Miss., since 1951.

But as of Wednesday night most Vegas sports books had Mississippi State as a 1-point favorite over Georgia in Saturday’s game in Starkville.

These are strange times, indeed,  in UGA football.

As you know all too well, Georgia lost at South Carolina for the first time in 10 years and lost to Arkansas for the first time in 17 years and is 0-2 in the SEC for the first time in 17 years.

The next streak on the line is Georgia’s nine consecutive victories over Mississippi State. That streak dates to a 38-14 UGA loss in 1974 in Jackson, Miss.

The schools have played only 21 times in football despite both being charter members of the SEC. They have met only twice since 1997. Georgia leads the series 16-5.

Georgia’s all-time record in Starkville is 4-1, the lone loss a 6-0 defeat in 1951. Georgia won in Starkville in 1982, 1988, 1996 and 2005.

The teams also played three times in Jackson, most recently in 1974. Georgia was 1-2 in those games.

You know it is really sickening how all the band wagon jumpers were with the Dawgs when they were on top. The Dawgs have struggled recently and now these band wagon jumpers are doing nothing but blasting the players, coaching staff and even UGA. I guess even though Coach Richt is a terrible coach he has done something right in the last 10 years to make people think that the Dawgs have fallen so badly on hard times. When he got there, I don’t remember that the program was so highly thought of. And we all fall for this media crap that sets traps for people to bring the program down. Hell the Dawgs have struggled, let’s hope things get turned around and I am sure they will. The players, coaches and fans need to reassess themselves. Go Dawgs!

If you really wanted to evaluate your program and it’s players you would need to take each starting lineup and ask the question….”Would this guy start for this team today?” UGA has 4 or 5 players that would start for every other team in the SEC and that includes the two Specialist…

A few years ago you would ask that question and it would be 9 or 10 guys at a minimum…boy have those days come and gone.

Is this the same Donnan that could not win the SEC with some of his recruiting classes? I would not put too much into anything that Donnan has to say. It’s easy for him now that he is on the sidelines.

Even i disagree with this line and i don’t like uga. I think you guys will win 24-10. They have no offense and and no where the talent uga has. If i had money to blow in this bad economy, i would put it big on uga. I would also take miami tonight who is an underdog to pitt. lol

I have spent many hours studying film, consulting with experts and even a palm reader for this game in Starkville.

The unanimous conclusion was that the Dawgs will win.

In transition- Alabama has actually been in transition many times over the past 20 years. Heck, it wasn’t that long ago that they begged Penn State to put off their series because the program was down. Of course, Penn State manned up and came down to Tuscaloosa knowing they were overmatched. Also, keep in mind that Saban is the entire program- they will drop off when he leaves. Delusional Alabama fans thinks it’s about the tradition- it ain’t. It’s about Saban.

Apopka, your plea’s are like asking the Captain on the Titanic to turn around after he hit the iceberg buddy. Let’s take a sip of the kool aid so we can continue watching the program slip deeper into mediocrity.

Hit a single, tell me the last time the media was in the strength and conditioning room, the last time they put a game plan together, then I will fall for your crap. Just for our reading pleasure, please put a list of band wagon fans together for our viewing that “MEET” the criteria for BS that you just posted. I see a lot of people talk about “Band Wagon” fans and spewing non sense but they don’t target anyone.

I will agree with you last couple of sentences, the Dawgs need to turn this around and EVERYONE needs to reaccess themselves.

My main concern is that Richt is still coaching “The Bowden Way” because, quite frankly, “The Bowden Way” no longer works in 2010.

From the mind of Bobo,

You forgot
1st down – play action pass
2nd down – play action pass
3rd down – play action pass
3rd and short – long pass
3rd and long – run up the middle

The 2010 Edition of UGA football has the potential to be a record breaker in the pejorative sense. Maybe with the strength (or lack thereof) of this opponent and the lines playing a little better we can get out of Cowtown with a W.

Les, it’s Saban and the Tradition. With Bama’s tradition most any decent coach can recruit there. Some of Sabans best players on last years team were Shula recruits.

Mobile Dawg- I hear what you’re screaming and point well taken but I still think 18 yr olds care less about tradition than we think. Heck, in a survey of college players by ESPN, they voted Oregon’s uniforms as the best in college football. I think that says it all.

Did i read that somebody post that Donnan was a better recruiter than CMR. What is that guy smoking. We basically lost our best recruits to Tennessee when Donnan was our coach and we never had top 10 classes. Donnan chose Jasper Sanks over Jamal Lewis and Musa Smith over Ronnie Brown. Enough said.

Bama will be right where they were 4 years ago with a huge stadium and empty seats when Jerry Jones comes to town and offers Nick the moon. Of course Nick will say, I am staying at Bama for the remainder of my career; which is lawyer speak for the “end of my college career”. He even has his house on Lake Burton for sale because he knows it’s happening. Oh and by the way Monkey’s ass, you aint been no where to watch again except for in your trailer.

Canton, I absolutely, categorically, resolutely, can not stand the offensive philosophy of this offensive set of coaches. That said, maybe that’s where my problems with CMR lie, unresolved, deep into my psyche. Maybe I need a sports psychologist. Where oh where is my old pal, Ole Dawg? Anyone know?

Just for everyone’s open knowledge so you won’t go where’s Mobile Dawg when and if we win BIG in Starkville, and I hope we do, Mobile Dawg will get it out. Even if we win, and win big, with the big play, you won’t see a shift in my position as far as how I feel about the Coaches ability to build, prepare, and plan for a successful team. It will take a couple of years and a change in SOME of the philosophy this man has as far as football goes. Don’t get me wrong, please, we all love a big play. CMR lives off of it, for it, must get a high off of it, or he dies with it and goes to football heaven.

CMR is a fine man and an inspiration for a lot of people. He’s not a first class Head Football Coach !

Cantondawg, I went to school wioth Jamal Lewis @ Douglass High and know him well, he was going to tennesse from the jump, he never intended on going to UGA. + Jasper Sanks(at the time) was one of the best highschool RB’s in the country. Donnan won ALL of his Bowl games and had a winning record in just 6 seasons at UGA. You are wrong sir!

i think uga swcores enough points;but its hard to watch our traditionally stout defense,we got a real problem on the defensive side, esp. the secondary, touchdowns are being given up-without a defender with-in 15 yards, the de- is killing us, no leader on de- coach richt also has to get some emotion going on that sideline,he looks baffled and boring, whers the enthusiasm and player interaction, some players need to be pushed and need to know they are srewing things up.!

Man. I thought the media hated UGA, but it’s apparent the bookies love us. Take that money and run boys. That has to be the most idiotic line of the year.

Georgia loses tight games that could have easily gone the other wya in the fourth quarter to two ranked teams and they get annihilated by the press. Menawhile, teams like Notre Dame and GaTech can lose to absolute crap teams and beat no one of consequence and still get AP votes. College football is really screwed up. A win against anyone is apparently better than a loss to a good team. Might as well fire up the NC game bus for Boise State.

You failed to mention that UGA opened up as the favorite but gamblers have leaned heavily toward Miss. State causing the line to change. We were favored but most gamblers believe we will lose and now we are the underdog.

Still can’t believe we have dropped so low under Richt that we would ever not be favored by a TD or more against this pathetic team!!!! If we lose that will cap this season as Richt’s tombstone.
