Georgia an underdog at Mississippi State?

Georgia has not lost a football game to Mississippi State since 1974. Georgia has not lost in Starkville, Miss., since 1951.

But as of Wednesday night most Vegas sports books had Mississippi State as a 1-point favorite over Georgia in Saturday’s game in Starkville.

These are strange times, indeed,  in UGA football.

As you know all too well, Georgia lost at South Carolina for the first time in 10 years and lost to Arkansas for the first time in 17 years and is 0-2 in the SEC for the first time in 17 years.

The next streak on the line is Georgia’s nine consecutive victories over Mississippi State. That streak dates to a 38-14 UGA loss in 1974 in Jackson, Miss.

The schools have played only 21 times in football despite both being charter members of the SEC. They have met only twice since 1997. Georgia leads the series 16-5.

Georgia’s all-time record in Starkville is 4-1, the lone loss a 6-0 defeat in 1951. Georgia won in Starkville in 1982, 1988, 1996 and 2005.

The teams also played three times in Jackson, most recently in 1974. Georgia was 1-2 in those games.

Careful, Pitbull. If we don’t play them in Atlanta, how will they ever sell out that tiny “stadium?” I’m not sure Dragon Con wants to relocate, and there are only so many Coke and hotdogs in the world. I thought about cheerleaders, but then I threw up in my mouth.

Lets address this “Religious”, “Christian” deal everyone discusses when CMR comes up.

First. 90% of all wars are started in the name of religion and we see where that gets those countries.

Second. We all strive to be good people, raise good children, lead by example, and want the best for our families. Most Americans are religious in some aspect, we all deal with religion as we see fit in our personal lives.

Third: You can be very successful in life and still have strong religious values without building your life around it. Most churches today are built on money, and power. I say that as a man who has had 1 grandfather, 2 uncles who were “Preachers” or “Pastors” and a father who was a deacon and a church elder. I get the religion thing.

But CMR needs to get one thing. His power in this state comes from being Head Football Coach at UGA and one of the most lucrative jobs in the country. (maybe not as we speak, but should be).
If it means cursing, swearing, chewing out some fannie and playing hardball to get wins, recruits, and respect from others he had better start showing some fire instead of turning the cheek so much.

Just Wondering

I didn’t think those 4 and 5 stars would need any strength and conditioning or big time coaching. From what I read during the winter blogs all UGA had to do was recruit and sign those 4 and 5 star guys and the other teams such as SC and ARK would just roll over.

Where does one start? I’m not going into it because you are way off. OK, maybe a little bit I will go into it. Religion does ruin many things. Being a Christian has noting to do with Religion.
It’s a spritual and personal choice: Being a Christian is to be a disciple of Jesus. Meaning: to be in His word, Be prayerful, to Fellowship and to witness to others(bring others to Christ) Ever read the Treasure Principle by Randy Alcorn? Ready to risk your life for the name of Jesus if that’s what He calls upon you to do.
OK, unless someone asks I won’t preach any more. Just felt that post needed addressing.

This year is bringing our major concerns. We lose to 2 upstart programs on the rise in SC and Arkansas. The bad news of that is the decline of our program.

Then Mrs. State comes in our view and the same story can become a reality. Then you look at our favorable schedule and it’s not so favorable.

Auburn on the rise, Kentucky and Vanderbilt as well. We haven’t proven we can slay the gators and the only hope looks like Dooley’s vowels. Even Colorado seemed to get well against Hawaii. This is not looking good.

Part of me says we can win out as we get our legs under us kind of like 07 and the other part of me looks over the scenario of who we play and says this could get real ugly. Even uglier than where we sit at this moment. 0-2 in the SEC.

I hate to see them lose too but I can’t stand this same crap year in and year out. After every loss it is the same thing….”oh we stil have a lot to play for… we have to correct our mistakes”. Why don’t this happen before the loss.

UGA would be 3-0 right now and a 14 point favorite against Mississippi State if CMR would stop treating these kids like it’s their first time on a field.CMR is using their playing time to get them ready to play at 100%. What CMR didn’t count on was that UGA was going to have to play at 100% from the first game.
In 2008 when UGA was ranked pre-season # 1 that team was ready. But, they practiced so hard more than a dozen starters got hurt for most of the season. Along with the players that got hurt during the season, UGA had approx. 22 to 25 starters hurt for the rest of the year or loss significant time. CMR needs to realize that the way you get a team ready to play is closer to what he did in 2008 not what he has done since then.

Teee HeeeHeee

You’re absolutely correct!!! There are a lot of people in the State that think both Richt and Bishop Long are decent men!!! So what does the comment, “Well the NC kid’s dad is a preacher. So it makes sense” mean?

No cheap shot intended. Making comparisons that’s all.

And that stupid idiot Buck Belue says….”Oh we don’t have a David Pollack, We don’t have a Thomas Davis… We don’t have a Jimmy Payne”. Well if I remember correctly DP was a 3 star rated player. Thomas Davis maybe a 1 star and I don’t remember if they were even givings ratings when Jimmy Payne came out of high school. GA has 5 star rated players now and they turn them into 2 star rated players. Alabama takes a 5 star player and makes them even better. That is COACHING.

UGA will be a completely different team starting in the next few games. They are a lot better than they have shown. They just haven’t been conditioned to compete with a good SC or Arkansas team . UGA should beat MS by 10 to 17 points and they will just get better and better. CMR should have used the off season to get his players ready but he didn’t and we are seeing the results. Now he’s trying to play catch up.
CMR made a huge mistake last year when he didn’t play Murray the last 4 or 5 games. An experienced and confident Murray would have beaten SC and Ark.
My advice to Murray is to take charge of the offense and when Bobo starts calling ” dumb #### ” play’s that he checks off and calls his own play that is more inclined to be successful.

Where is the Water Girl portion of Richt’ TV show? Is it still there? I really stopped viewing it when Florida blew us out with Stafford and Moreno ……….. sort of stopped watching Richt do anything with his droopy, sleepy, bored looking eyes.

We could place Bobo in that spot ………..make him the water girl.

You heard it here first …………..Richt has now reigned in TG just like he did Brian Van Gorder. They cuss, get up in the kid’s faces and Richt does not like it ……….you can see the deflated D squad too.

It will end within 8 or 20 more games max ……….be patient.

I get what you are say…I am religious, well I try to be. I just am one of those people who knows that me getting to the endzone in the sky has nothing to do with me running up to anyone and everyone and preaching. I have lived that life with my family.

The one thing I will say is that in “my opinion” that is “my opinion” and that means nothing…is CMR has allowed some of that “hunger” for football die in his belly and his religion has risen in his soul a little too much to be accepted in this college football driven state. We live in a “microwave” society and not saying that is a good thing, people expect things now. Probably when you and I were growing up we planted that seed in the garden, worked it, fertilized it and watched it grow then enjoyed the fruit or vegatable of our hard work. Nowadays, people do not care about how you go there, they just want the end result.

As an employer who hires and never tries to fire, I search for that guy or girl who is hungry, never satisfied and wants to produce for themselves. I just hope CMR has that fire.

Since some of these Gator fans on here seem to throw pot shots at everyone else and seem to think they are “untouchable”…lets see how old Urbie is doing.

The only thing UF has done right is in the turnover department. Thats right. Your offense is middle of the pack, your scoring is in the middle of the pack, your defense is pretty much an average group of 5 star players.

Urbie boy quits, returns, sebatical, while losing Mullen last year, Strong and a host of other coaches and since the bald man on the line of scrimmage has started calling the plays it was Tebow for 65% of your offense. Now with Brantley..and don’t call me “Scott” or Junior, you guys have gone to fake punts, toss sweeps and crack backs to generate any form of offense.

I have been to see UF and USF, and if two unforced turnovers do not occur UF is down 14-0 at halftime.

I will be sitting in the stands in two weeks when Urbie brings the gatorettes to Tuscaloosa for their annual gator kicking competition. Lets see how the Gators plan to stop a real offense and a real offensive line and how Johnny boy does when he cannot recognize the coverages.

Does anyone really think Urban has that same fire in his belly he had when he was Tebowin in through the SEC?..Doubtful….

I think Georgia is going to have it’s hands full in Starkville this weekend.

Grantham’s vaunted 3-4 is more like a sieve than a defensive alignment. The amount of arm-tackling that has been demonstrated in the last 2 games is worse than the Tech game in 2008.
In fact, this is the most porous defense we’ve had in the last 20 years.

May the best Dawgs win on Saturday. Unfortunately, I think it will be the Maroon ones.

I see some of your points. We will just agree that we disagree on some of our view points. Maybe CMR has lost some of his edge, I just don’t understand why the finger is pointed at his beliefs. I agree that there are times that he appears to be too laid back. Maybe he wasn’t as good of a HC as 1st thought of. I mean after Goff & Donnan I would look like a super hero if I were the HC. Time will tell.
I still have confidence in this team and yes, CMR. However, after next year if there is not big improvements then I will probably be changing my tune.

Underdog to Miss State???
Well, that’s what happens when your coaches response to a loss is, “Its not like we got shilacked or anything.” Apparently, the standards at UGA have dropped to “its ok to lose, just don’t get shilacked.”

Well, that’s what happens when your more concerned with how the team is developing, rather than wins and loses.

We have officially become a mid-level SEC team. We will find out this Saturday whether or not we are a bottom dwelling SEC team.

Plea to Mark Richt…
Please wake up and put your hands back on the offense
Please wake up and instill some confidence and fire in the team
Please let Grantham go nuts on the sidelines and jump on guys who make mistakes or “loaf” on a play
Please get a sense of urgency about this season and this team
Please don’t EVER say “Its not like we got shilacked” after a loss EVER AGIAN!
