Georgia an underdog at Mississippi State?

Georgia has not lost a football game to Mississippi State since 1974. Georgia has not lost in Starkville, Miss., since 1951.

But as of Wednesday night most Vegas sports books had Mississippi State as a 1-point favorite over Georgia in Saturday’s game in Starkville.

These are strange times, indeed,  in UGA football.

As you know all too well, Georgia lost at South Carolina for the first time in 10 years and lost to Arkansas for the first time in 17 years and is 0-2 in the SEC for the first time in 17 years.

The next streak on the line is Georgia’s nine consecutive victories over Mississippi State. That streak dates to a 38-14 UGA loss in 1974 in Jackson, Miss.

The schools have played only 21 times in football despite both being charter members of the SEC. They have met only twice since 1997. Georgia leads the series 16-5.

Georgia’s all-time record in Starkville is 4-1, the lone loss a 6-0 defeat in 1951. Georgia won in Starkville in 1982, 1988, 1996 and 2005.

The teams also played three times in Jackson, most recently in 1974. Georgia was 1-2 in those games.

After we upset the state bulldogs… and win on the road in Colorada, the Dogs should have a BLACKOUT against the orange and then toss an endzone celebration after our touchdown. This would really really get us back on track!!!

No, you don’t run crap anymore. Anyway, at least GT was favored to beat Missy St. I am not sure the pups have what it takes to go to Starkville and come back winners. I’m sorry, there I go again, living in the past, just like you morons do. What happened (PAST TENSE) is in the past, and you are only as good as your last game. Let the past go, and concentrate on the present and the future of UGA football, which I must say is not very bright. And currently, cellar dwellers Missy St. is favored to beat the pups this weekend. How pitiful. I actually thought they would upset you guys, but now State does not accomplish anything by winning. They are SUPPOSED TO WIN. I will guarantee you this however…. If Ga. Tech was playing them again this year, Tech would be at least a 7-10 point favorite, and they would dominate State. Your program has become so irrevelent.. who knows, by Nov.6, Idaho St. might be favored to win.

I love all of these mind readers on this blog. To know that CMR is thinking about Missionary work instead of being an HC. Glad you cleared that up. Knowing that CMR is a man of integrity, if he thought that his mind and desire was not at 100% into coaching he would leave UGA. Claiming that he could be leaning towards missionary work is just an easy way for the fan base to blame him. Just because he is a Christian does not mean that all Christians become missionaries over seas. He can do his missionary work right there with the athletes he has at UGA. If that was his calling.
At saying that I’m also surprised and dissapointed at the start of this season. I’m not surprised at the Defensive play, but mostly at the offensive playing. Yes, Bobo needs to be relieved of his duties.
New defensive scheme will take 2 years to learn. Also, you need to get the right athletes for the new defense. Being an Alumnus of UGA I’m here to say that I will back my Dawgs even through these bad times. For a lot of the UGA fans on here things are only perfect with the coach and teams if they win 11 to 12 games a year. If not Fire Him!
CMR does need to get this team back up to UGA football standards and I do think that he is still the right man to be our Head Coach!
GO DAWGS! beat state!

Hey, “lowcountry” well the name says it all. A “W” stands for win and and “L” stands for loss. More “W’s” are better than more “L’s”. Just trying to make is SIMPLE for ya.

Oh, how the times have changed. UGA needs to forget about the last two weeks (easier said than done) and just go out and execute the gameplan. There is no excuse to lose this game. UGA is has better talent at most every position on the field.

Right or wrong, Richt’s religious devotion does play into this. Some young recruits may not feel too comfy to sign on with a program that is ran like a church. All I’m saying about “the calling” is that it can make people doubt where they should be in life. He sure has that look. As far as understanding it? I don’t care too. I just want the old Richt back who used to win games that mattered, or else I want him to move on.

I don’t know if we’ve got the horses to compete in the SEC right now, and I mean playing MSU, Vandy and Kentucky. Who would of thought with a veteran line with 127 starts between them we would HAVE to throw to get a first down. Really ?

I often read AJC for Vol recruiting updates and good SEC Football coverage. FWIW….I saw the Dawgs/Hawgs game on TV and even though the Hawgs came out on top in the end, I believe UGA will close the season strong. I was very impressed with Murray and his quick release…he will only get better as will the RBs. Also…the Dawgs have missed AJ more than previously thought, but he’s gonna be back soon.
As for the Vols…. well, tough year. It’s the Dawgs over the Vols this year between the hedges….your turn to win and it won’t be close. I happen to enjoy the Dawg/Vol rivalry more than any other…based on being competitive, border war, etc. Good luck Sat. in Starkville….double digit win for Georgia!

Agreed! But it cuts both ways. Some kids wanna come play at Georgia because of Richt . . . like the NC QB recruit. I think Richt is a man of integrity but I want recruits to pick Georgia based on the strength of what our program has to offer . . . not on what our coach believes.

September 23rd, 2010

Lets Get ahead of Mr. College Football, Bradley and Schultz and make some predictions:

I will steal a line from Tony Barnhardt and say “UGA wins because they have to win’
UGA 38 MSU 24
Kentucky will go into Gainesville looking to break a 23 year losing streak and win
UK 34 UF 24
South Carolina travels to play a Auburn team that took a physical beating last week against Clemson. Spurrier knows if he loses then he will need some help to win the East
USC 42 Auburn 35
Tennessee host UAB
UT 31 UAB 28
Alabama starts the three game playoff system traveling to Arkansas and the “Red Out”, and you UGA fans remember the last time somebody tried to “OUT” Alabama.
Alabama 48 Arkansas 28
LSU host West Virginia
Lester Miles thinks he has his offense working, this week is not a week to evaluate that. Peterson is probably the best defensive player in the SEC for The Bayou Bengal Tigers.
LSU 31 WVU 24
Ole Miss gets a visit from Fresno State. Ole Miss lost to JSU, and Vandy…the Masoli experiment has not worked, he has caused more problems than anyone ever anticipated. If Nutty Nutt does not play the Sophomore QB now he will be in the same boat next year.
Fresno St. 45 Ole Miss 31
Ga. Tech and the Option plus team gets a visit from a rising and rested N.C. State team. State has an athletic QB and is probably the best offense Tech has seen this year, State can run it, throw hid, hide it and shared it. The Techies had better be in the lab working O.T. on how to stop State.
GT 41 NCS 38 in OT
Notre Dame has Stanford this week and look for Stanford to score score score. two losses in a row have the Gold Domers scratching their domes…
Stanford 48 Notre Dame 21

Good Luck to all of your teams this week……except Auburn…..LOL

Losing to Florida and Auburn will be the ONLY acceptable looses this fan base will stomach.
We should win every game on our schedule except those two, maybe even a chance with Auburn, But WE ARE NOT FAVORED against MSU and have lost to them but once, maybe twice in 40 years.

sorry fellow dawg fans, but the fact is that ‘losing begets losing, winning begets winning.’ psychologically groups become ‘losers’ or ‘winners’ based on a number of factors. but the idea of the downward spiral has its merits, or demerits. we are ‘losers’ now, and we will find a way to lose. we will, as harry mehre used to say, ’snatch defeat from the jaws of victory’ every time. only a sea change will make the ship turn around. patchwork on the coaching staff won’t work. only a cleaning of the house and a changing of the guard. greg mcgarrity surely knows this. this season will be a suffering indeed. but, relax, it will be over and change will be on the way.

Most of the negative comments towards Georgia and CMR come from Tech fans posing as disgruntled UGA fans. I hate the Tech posers that come on UGA blogs.

I hope McGarrity drops Tech from our schedule like second period french. We could pick up Clemson or Notre Dame or FSU every year earlier in the schedule and play one of our SEC games like Kentucky as the last game of the year.

We might not win as many against Clemson, FSU, or Notre Dame as we win against Tech, but those schools’ people have a lot more class than the Tech haters, you know – the Wanna Bees.

And it would cut into the GTAA revenue so deeply that they would probably start running financial deficits (again).

So what do you think Dawg fans?

Would all of you other real Dawg fans out there like to dropkick Tech off the schedule and be done with their smart mouth arses?

After all, they have always needed us for their program and we do not need them.

One thing you will have to give the SEC is that if Georgia is the weakest team in it that is a pretty strong conference. Not even I could compare Georgia to Duke. The SEC looks much stronger with Georgia on the bottom than say Vanderbilt which I use to compare to Duke. Miss. State should not beat Georgia but if they do where is the bottom for the dawgs?

59bulldawg,

I see it a different way. I think the parents are more impressed with Richt, than the recruits might be. Trust me parents are very vocal about what the school will offer their child,by ways of leadership, education, ect.I have a kid thats plays and it is a tough choice for a family to make. Its much easier to send your kid with a coach like Richt because of the trust factor with him. I will say not every kid is like this.At breakfast one morning my 9 year old posed this question to me-Dad,if I had to pick between playing for Coach Richt or Coach Spurrier which one would you say play for?
