Georgia has not lost a football game to Mississippi State since 1974. Georgia has not lost in Starkville, Miss., since 1951.
But as of Wednesday night most Vegas sports books had Mississippi State as a 1-point favorite over Georgia in Saturday’s game in Starkville.
These are strange times, indeed, in UGA football.
As you know all too well, Georgia lost at South Carolina for the first time in 10 years and lost to Arkansas for the first time in 17 years and is 0-2 in the SEC for the first time in 17 years.
The next streak on the line is Georgia’s nine consecutive victories over Mississippi State. That streak dates to a 38-14 UGA loss in 1974 in Jackson, Miss.
The schools have played only 21 times in football despite both being charter members of the SEC. They have met only twice since 1997. Georgia leads the series 16-5.
Georgia’s all-time record in Starkville is 4-1, the lone loss a 6-0 defeat in 1951. Georgia won in Starkville in 1982, 1988, 1996 and 2005.
The teams also played three times in Jackson, most recently in 1974. Georgia was 1-2 in those games.

LowCountry- you missed my point. Talking about a Jr that left our program last year, not 13 time All Pro Ray D. This kid told me personally that he was very concerned about what was going on in the weight room. I think you and I are both True Dog fans. I cannot believe that I have personally relegated to expressing my frustration on a blog this week. Hope Coach Richt can rally these guys. Done with the blogging.

Donnan made some big mistakes and the biggest was going with that thug Quincy Carter @ QB and giving him so much public outcries of confidence. Carter had no core of values and no backbone. He signed first with GT, then dumped them to try pro baseball and then he came to UGA. I though it stunk to high heaven as a UGA man. I knew that Carter was dumber than a truck too.
Donnnan also ticked off the fans around the state with is non PC manner of speaking and general rudeness. I for one, re call his post game WSb radio show after LOSING his first game to Southern Mississippi in Athens on a rainy, nasty day. Dang, we were ticked off and I never liked him because of that one loss. Bobo was his QB too, if I recall it correctly.
He did recruit great players and some had issues like Carter and yes, there were others. He just did not win and he LOST to GT three times in a row and that got him gone. He did defeat Spurrier once but could not sustain it. He too inherited some of Goff’s players like Edwards and Hines Ward and a few others like Arthur Marshall.
Now, the re-exam …………..Richt did field better teams with Donnan’s kids. I never wanted to admit that but the years have worn on and Richt cannot win with his players. Richt has lost his fire along the way and his drive.

Murphy thanks for the advice; but if you read the Gainesville Sun’s website, UF IS concerned and is easily the best team we have faced this year. Of course we will by far be the best team UK has faced. If we win it will be because of the depth of speed we have. Remember the name Trey Burton for Sat night.

ga gator,
I live down here in Gaytor land. The fans here seem to think Kentucky wont be an issue.I saw Burton at a UF scrimmage, talented kid,ran this system in high school with success. His stature is a concern though-looks a little fragile to me to run this offense alot. Needs to get bigger but runs very well.

I’ve talked to 1,500 UGA fans down here around Moultrie and all say the same things about Mark Richt. He is a pretty boy with no fire in his gut. Showing no emotion is cool when you’re winning but makes you look like you don’t even care when you are losing. We lose to Missy State and Richt’s in trouble.

Ok, whatever, be done with blogging. The point is or should be taken is in the fact that if these guys cannot motivate themselves to be the best then wtf are they doing at UGA anyway. Blaming the S&C Coach is a complete copout. Blame it on poorly evaluating prospective recruits if you like, but the Strength and Conditioning?

Dawgs, be patient with Grantham. Just like his former boss, Saban, it will take a ful year to get his D on track.
Don’t worry about Bobo’s pathetic play-calling and Richt/Bobo’s predictable “3 and-out offense. Just grin and bear it through November.
Mr McGarity will get that straightened out in January. Back to QB coach for Bobo. New, NFL offensive whiz for OC. CEO for Richt.
I am all for that scenario. I’m not trying to compare to great coaches, but many, many great ones over the years knew when to become CEO, and leave the Xs and Os to the whiz kids.
Richt just needs convincing, (apparantly other than everybody in the SEC beating up on him), and McGarity, who has seen excellence up close for a decade, is the man to convince Richt.

UK’s offense is capable. Look at the rushing yardage given up so far by UK. UL had a back get 170 and WKU got 200+. florida will run the ball enough to win but won’t cover the spread.

Look at Carolina’s schedule, they are likey to lose 3-4 games and Arkansas atleast 2 games. If
UGA still has the opportunity to win out and go to the SECC. But has to beat FL and FL beat SC.

After watching Sportcenter and many of the national college TV shows this week, the fact that UGA has slipped to a place of irrelevancy finally slapped me in the face. No one outside of GA respects our program or the way our kids handle ourselves on or off the field. I have always been a CMR homer but I am starting to question myself. Why did CMR reign in Grantham’s demeanor on the sideline?? We needed him to fire us up and now he is as boring as the boss over there. Things are not good at all however the summer of discontent ended last night at 11:09. So let’s start anew with the fall season and go undefeated the rest of the way!

Grantham had some fire that first game. Nothing since. Poor tackling, coverage beakdown, 3 times last week the D was FOOLED out of their jocks. This guy is making $750k and has made NO difference. We are talking basic coaching, fundamental football. New coach, new schema, same ole’ crappy defense.

I have a question to pose for all UGA fans and Richt supporters. What do you guys think is acceptable record for this years team considering the the Dawgs were 8-5 last year? If Richt goes 5-7 or worse does he deserve yet another opportunity for the “just wait until next year crowd”? What in your collective minds is acceptable improvement…just thought I should ask.
