ATHENS – Georgia players are well aware of how their 0-2 SEC record is being received and reviewed by some fans and fellow students.
“Yeah, it’s different [on campus],” offensive tackle Josh Davis said Tuesday. “You don’t see as much of the love as you used to when you won a couple of games. But that’s to be expected; nobody wants to go to a university where the football team isn’t doing well at the time.
“We have great fans,” Davis said, “and they’re not used to losing like this. We’re not used to losing like this. . . . All we have to do is come out and win games, and everybody will be happy then. . . . I’ve heard things, but you got to take it with a grain of salt. It’s not [the fans'] fault we lost games; it’s our fault we lost games.”
When a reporter prefaced a question with the observation that fans aren’t happy with the team’s start, coach Mark Richt replied: “They’re not? Neither am I. Neither is my mom, I can tell you that.”
As for how the team is dealing mentally with the 0-2 SEC start, Richt said: “Everybody showed up at work, and we worked. That’s all we can ask right now. . . . I’m not really even worried how they feel right now. I’m more worried about how they work. If they are in a good mood and they work hard, or if they are in a bad mood and work hard, I don’t really care right now. As we get closer to the game, we’ll kind of work on the emotional part.”
Wide receiver Tavarres King said the team’s emotional state is fine. “Everyone is still upbeat,” he said. “No one is down. . . . There’s a lot of football left to play and a lot left to be said.”
Said wide receiver Kris Durham: “It’s disappointing, frustrating, whatever adjective you want to throw at it. It is. It’s not what we had pictured. It’s not what we had dreamed. But it is what has happened, and we have to take what’s positive out of it.”

I read an article about UGA football, and the blog is full of crap from people supporting other schools. Typical. They all want to fire UGA’s coach, which makes me wonder why? There is a time for discussing coaching changes, and three weeks into the season is not it.
As for the article, there are a lot of us out here that support our team. If I could make it to Starksville, I would be there screaming as well, but we only make one road trip each year, and it is to Jacksonville. We will be watching and wearing our school colors, and everyone in the bar will know who we support.
The rest of you, go get a job. Or at least a life.

I’ve been about as disappointed as anybody over these past two games and have openly questioned just how many more we might win this season….but after reading the crap from some of the, so-called, Georgia fans here, along with the a-holes that seem to be partial to some of our long-time rivals, then by-damn I say to hell with it, and to hell with you. We’ve turned bad situations around during past seasons and CMR, this staff and these players will do it again. One thing I’ll never sit still for is taking any crap from a fan, or fans, of any other school, and I’m sure not gonna start now. None of my Tech, or Tenn, or Fla, or Aub, or you-name-it friends have ever been rude enough to say anything like what I’m reading here to my face and neither have I to them. But we’ll be right here next week and if you’ve got anything to say, bring it on.

I’ve never understood how anyone – even an alumnus – could support and take pride in UGA’s football team. When you look at their history for the past forty years, how can anyone ignore Jan Kemp and the “remedial studies” scam, the Jim Harrick fiasco, the DUIs in the athletic office, the DUIs and other arrests of players, the #1 party school tag (i.e., the most drunk students), the suspensions and outright dismissals, the Fulmer/Richt Cup, and on and on?
As disgraceful and humiliating as it is, I don’t see many alums and fans demanding an end to this sordid activity. It sets UGA apart as the kind of school most people abhor, and it’s become an embarrassment to the whole state of Georgia.
Will it never end? Apparently not while Mark Richt is at UGA. Richt is perhaps the biggest hypocrite in the United States. But even with all the cheating and lawlessness that he ignores, he still can’t win the SEC.
So you’re paying him to be BCS champions, but he can’t even win his SEC division. So why do you pay him millions of dollars a year?
Just asking.

I wonder if any of the books about UGA football include the perspective of someone speaking for the late Jan Kemp? The perspective that “student” athletes like Lindsay Scott were playing years without taking college level courses? That the proudest moment of the football program was earned by players who never earned a single college credit?
Dawgtards love to return to 1980, but their memories are really short when it comes to remembering an earthshaking event that happened a few years later that showed the world what a joke UGA athletes were and what a scam artist their beloved Vince Dooley was (and is). So for all those dawgtards with short memories or who think their athletes are actually taking real courses and trying to graduate, here’s the quote that broke the trial wide open and showed what a slimeball Dooley is:
O. Hale Almand Jr., a lawyer for the defense, offered a justification for the favorable treatment accorded the athletes, citing a hypothetical player. “We may not make a university student out of him,” he told the jury, “but if we can teach him to read and write, maybe he can work at the post office rather than as a garbageman when he gets through with his athletic career.”
Nothing has changed at UGA, they just do a slightly better job of keeping things quiet, but that’s hard to do when 44 of your player-thugs have been arrested, isn’t it?

For many many years UGA has been in the top 5 in recruiting (minus last year). At some point we have to ask is it that the recruits are not panning out or is the coaching staff not devloping them? I know that some 2 and 3 star players get to college bulk up and become animals (see Boise St.) but most of these 4 and 5 stars are good players, they just aren’t reaching their potential like they should. I love my Dawgs but something is going on here…

CMR sounds like the boss at an office where everyone hates each other and no one wants to be there. “Don’t care how they feel. Just want them to show up and work.” Would Saban or Meyer ever say that?! Sounds a lot more like a Houston Nutt quote. College football is more than show up and work! It’s wins and losses and when you can’t figure out how to win big games, it’s time to pack up.

Excuses, Excuses, Excuses! Georgia Fans don’t need them, Fla has two championships under URBAN,ALABAMA HAS ONE UNDER NICK, hell even LES MILES has 1, and NICK has another one down there in the Swamp(the real one), we want championships, and nothing less than that should be excepted, This is by far one of the leading states that sends guys to the NFL, Why Oh Why are we not getting the very best of the best to play and stay at home. Nick Saban, Gene Chizik, and the Ole Ball Coach lately (with Urban) have bee cleaning us out lately Now throw in Dooley and his past where we played at Clarke Central together, and he’s gonna take more talent away. Coach Richt we WANT CHAMPIONSHIPS.

Yes We are 0 – 2 in the SEC but those losses were against good teams and both games could easily have been wins. Take away a fumble, two bad defensive plays. and a bone headed offensive call an third and four and both games could have been won. The third and four play shoul have had Murray on a rollout with the option of running or passing, You had two plays to make the first down and try to get closer for a game winning field goal (Ark game). Next game will be different.

When AJ returns, UGA would win. the rest of the games. This dioesn’t bode well for next year when AJ goes for the NFL. That would mean that UGA willl never win another game because AJ will not be in the team. Meaning the rest of the UGA players suck big time and only AJ makes them look half decent. Such is life around Sandford Stadium and the Queen City.

ToccoaDawg you must have plenty of time on your hands. Heres’ the deal I don’t have time for losers. Georgia should have been able to win 1 of the games between USC and ARK despite not having Green. You better win in Starkvegas or I pay attention to someting else on Saturdays. It’s just the way it is with most UGA fans who live busy lives. Georgia’s problem is that most UGA fans never attended the school, so if the team isn’t winning their is no reason for the fans to stick by the team. Alums will stick with the team much longer than the non-Alum fans. Add to that the fact that UGA has to put 90,000 butts in the seats each game, and that is the reason why UGA and the coaching staff recruits marginal academic players and puts up with nonsense from the players already on campus.

Kramerica that’s a false statement about Alabama fans or to say that about any other SEC school’s fans. I bet 99.9% percent of the fans you see today for Alabama, have been fans all of their lives…just like you’ve been a fan of UGA (I’m assuming) all of your life. What’s happening here is UGA fans are now faced with the reality that CMR can’t get it done….I think it’s that simple. 9 years and the hopes for playing for a NC are vanishing quickly….But I will have to say that Nick Saban is brining out the old Alabama fans in large numbers.

At a time in which UGA is 0-2 in conference play and searching for a positive spin on the remainder of the season, we need to look back at some notes from the Richt era. But first lets go look at former coach Jim Donnan. Jim did one heck of a job during his time, and as with U.S. Presidents, they foundation they build is not usually felt for in many cases. Jim Donnan had a record of 40-19 during his tenure at UGA. Donnan recruited some of the great players that CMR used to make his run during the first 3 and 4 years at the helm of UGA. Some of the players who were on CMR teams that Donnan signed: Bailey, Grant, Greer, Jennings, Pass, Stroud, Seymour, B.Bailey, Carter, Edwards, Gilbert, Stevens just to name a few. Players who committed to UGA during Donnan’s last season and signed when CMR was named coach: Sullivan, Green, Brown, Clemens, M.Smith, Geathers, Thornton, and Pollack. So Donnan left CMR with a pretty stacked group, and did a pretty good job of coaching these players.
Many of these players on the Donnan list went on to lucrative NFL careers. The biggest thing Donnan did was recruit big Defensive Linemen and enforce strength conditioning. He knew that in the SEC that Defense wins and Big, Strong, Fast Players control the line of scrimmage. Looking back at CMR’s recruits you will notice the dropoff in these big DL, OL who are strong enough to move bodies around. Before you start bringing up names, let me ask you one question: Why would K. Smart mandate that CMR hire a new Strength and Conditioning coach before he would accept the job at UGA? The answer: he has learned under SABAN that big strong players win championships.
The type of players that CMR has mainly recruited work very well in the ACC, but this is not the ACC. Passive play is not going to win for you and now the dawgs have more holes to fill than even CMR can fill. Can UGA line up play after play and run the ball against an LSU, Florida, Alabama?
Can UGA’s defense line up play after play and stop a running game(a power running game)? We have already seen USC take control of a game and win it down the stretch. You can blame Grantham for the game plan, but the truth of the matter is it comes down to strong, big players with a winning attitude. Does UGA have that mentality?
CMR is 50-24 during his time at UGA, the problem is he was 8-4, 13-1, 11-3 and 10-2 with alot of players Donnan had stockpiled in the program. The cupboard was full when CMR got there and he utilized the talent and added a few key pieces to the puzzle with some great skill people.
Last years 8-5, a disappointing 10-3 season with many many 1st and 2nd round draft picks, a 12-3 season prior to that, and a 9-4 season prior to that is not going to win you very much collateral.
The question is how much more of the future mortgage is UGA willing to sacrifice or invest in CMR?
SEC Fact Finder(the real one)
September 22nd, 2010
10:18 pm
Let me add one big piece of the argument about CMR. You can go research this and it will be proven true:
The state of Georgia is annually the 4th or 5th best in high school prospects. The state of Florida is usually ahead of Texas, California and Georgia. This is pretty amazing because of the per capita population in Georgia is around 15th or 16th.
A great coach wins his state in recruiting, and then goes outside the state and steals a player of two. Now CMR has gone outside and got some good ones, but he is getting picked off by Tennessee, South Carolina, FSU, Florida, Auburn, Alabama, Southern Cal, Notre Dame.
Three or four years of average recruiting is going to catch up with UGA.
