ATHENS – Georgia players are well aware of how their 0-2 SEC record is being received and reviewed by some fans and fellow students.
“Yeah, it’s different [on campus],” offensive tackle Josh Davis said Tuesday. “You don’t see as much of the love as you used to when you won a couple of games. But that’s to be expected; nobody wants to go to a university where the football team isn’t doing well at the time.
“We have great fans,” Davis said, “and they’re not used to losing like this. We’re not used to losing like this. . . . All we have to do is come out and win games, and everybody will be happy then. . . . I’ve heard things, but you got to take it with a grain of salt. It’s not [the fans'] fault we lost games; it’s our fault we lost games.”
When a reporter prefaced a question with the observation that fans aren’t happy with the team’s start, coach Mark Richt replied: “They’re not? Neither am I. Neither is my mom, I can tell you that.”
As for how the team is dealing mentally with the 0-2 SEC start, Richt said: “Everybody showed up at work, and we worked. That’s all we can ask right now. . . . I’m not really even worried how they feel right now. I’m more worried about how they work. If they are in a good mood and they work hard, or if they are in a bad mood and work hard, I don’t really care right now. As we get closer to the game, we’ll kind of work on the emotional part.”
Wide receiver Tavarres King said the team’s emotional state is fine. “Everyone is still upbeat,” he said. “No one is down. . . . There’s a lot of football left to play and a lot left to be said.”
Said wide receiver Kris Durham: “It’s disappointing, frustrating, whatever adjective you want to throw at it. It is. It’s not what we had pictured. It’s not what we had dreamed. But it is what has happened, and we have to take what’s positive out of it.”

Anyone who thinks we are much better than our record right now must not have been watching the same games as me. Anyone who thinks the next game is a slam dunk…..be careful. The game is on the road in a hostile invironment and last time I checked they do have a few atheletes on scholarship over there. If we don’t tackle better and cover someone we could come home with a devastating loss!

Oohhhhhhhh hahahahaha.
Davis’ bit is priceless. You can read it and just realize he wants to cry.
No one wants to got to a university that the football team doesn’t win all the time? Haha no that is just UGA.
And Richt: “All we can do is work”
That is why you will never sniff the SEC East. Imagine Saban saying something like that.
The UGA ship has sprung 1000 leaks, and Mark Richt knows its not getting any better.

You can tell by Richt’s and his coordinators’ comments, they are embattled. They are pulling up the drawbridge, dodging blame, and taking the general attitude: “We’re doing all we can and all you can ask us to do”
There’s an unstoppable countdown clock on his tenure when it gets to this stage. UGA fans better just hope this program isn’t as toxic as was indicated by your lack of ability to get one of your top 5 choices for DC.

It is a shame that things have gotten to this state. Suddenly Richt fans have gotten upset about arrests. Arrests and a lack of discipline have been a standard feature of the last ten years. The blame lands squarely on Adams’ desk because it extends throughout the athletic department. Adams fired Donnan because of “discipline issues.” He fired Dooley because Dooley refused to appoint Regent Leebron’s main squeeze assistant AD. Adams brought in Jim Harrick, who was not the choice of the search committee or of the AD. Harrick had wrecked programs at UMass and UCLA, and subsequently game us Basketball 101, Adams recruited Tony Cole with his presidential admit, and even Harrick resisted that one. Damon Evans was nothing more than an Adams puppet, and we know how that turned out. On the academic side, Adams fleeced the Foundation, replaced competent administrators with minions from the GA Legislature and floated shady construction and property deals. And there was the party for Adams Jr. charged to the UGA Foundation. Richt needs to go, but the problem is much bigger than Richt.

UGA grad here. Long time UGA supporter since the early 60s, with family and friends all UGA grads. Now, the young man Davis is simply telling an un truth …………..UGA’s SEC record of late
(within the conference is about 500) and at Sanford Stadium it is not great either ………lately.
In life, we are judged by what we accomplish …………lately. We lose on the road, we lose badly at home with Arkansas, LSU and KY to name few loses ………..lately. Thes were all losses due to sloppiness and lethargy ……….LATELY. See GT LOSS @ home in 08 ……….which is lately.
These young men do not work hard enough to wear the UGA uniform and next year, with a new staff, maybe some of them and their off the field antics will be run off.
College is forever and this will not last forever, UGA fans.

There’s a lot of talk about ‘07 as a bright spot on Richt’s resume. And while 11-2 is certainly nothing to sneeze at, that season just as easily can be viewed as a failure because of the slow start, which has become a trademark of UGA recently. Here me now and believe me later, that team had no business losing more than one game that year. That team had strong national title potential. We were virtially unstoppable in the I formation and the defense was stout. The loss at Tennessee is understandable but the blowout was not. A close quality loss to a good Tennessee team would not have knocked us out of the hunt. The loss to South Carolina remains mindboggling and I put it on Bobo trying to do too much with Stafford. I think ‘07 was Richt’s best, and possibly last, chance to win it all. But he blew it with the same kind of slow start and inconsistant uninspired play we are seeing right now.
True story.

I agree with the majority of your article, but I disagree with your comments regarding Meyer and Saban. To insinuate that these 2 men are not dedicated to their families is incorrect, and only shows how desperate UGA is to throw any sort of insults at winning coaches.
I know for a fact that Steve Spurrier is a great family man and has made many sacrifices to balance his college coaching with his family, along with Meyer. You mentioned this about these coaches because they are successfull and 3 of them beat the pure living hell out of your program year in and year out. If UGA was winning against these coaches, then you would not mentioned them at all or made a kind reference.
I believe your statement was totally off the mark, and quite frankly, if you had a booze drinking, womanizing coach who was winning titles, UGA would be all behind that coach, so cut the crap.

I guess we might as well just face it- after 44 years as a true UGA fan, we really are a 2nd tier SEC program. Bottom line is that we just do not do the things that Championship Programs do- Recruit, mentor, develop (mentally and physically), COACH, Prepare, and Expect Excellence from our players. We expect it from our fans, but not our Team. We cannot even protect our state borders. It should be the Dream of most talented High School players in our state to play for UGA as a privelege. The best days of my life have been in Athens GA. Other than a RSF QB, who by the way is playing his heart out and way above where anyone of us expected him to be at this point, the expectations should have been high for this team- 12 to 15 seniors plus a large number of Juniors. Looks like we will be rebuilding for some time which is what I have heard for the last 3-4 years. Look at corporate America and the number of businesses that are longer around- Why?- Because if you are not constantly changing with the world around you- you will become extinct as a company- plain and simple. The same old same old will take you to your grave sooner or later. I guess we can only hope that Greg McGarity learned how to produce and be a champion at UF and not stand for the mediocrity any longer. I really like Coach Richt and what he stands for. I hope that he has come to love this University the way that most true alumni and fans do and will make the commitment and changes to do what Champions to compete

As far as Saban goes, yeal he wins and knows how to win and he also knows how to keep his players in line. Saban rules with the consequences and expects the best from his players.
These entire blogs have been a long time coming and I have been hammering of you folks for the past 5 years trying to get you to see the light, but no one listed. Your program is in total denial and if anyone said anything negative about CMR, you would be crucified. Well, you cannot stand around and criticize the coaching, then your program is broken.
Donnan came from Mars Hill with championship under his belt, including at stint at OU with another national title as an assistant coach. His resume was one of the most stellar in D-1 football and was correctly hired. However, you fired him when he was about to turn the corner and the rest is history.
Van Gorder is the coach who got you on the board and you should have promoted him to head coach before the left for Jax. During his first year he allowed less than 20 yards per game and just go back and look at your records during his tenure. This data will prove that Van Gorder was your winning catalyst, not CMR.
The reason that Alabama is so dominant now is due to defense. I said before that the first team to shut down the spread will win titles, and Saban has done just that. Saban comes for a DC background, and he knows that a good offense will win you games, but an excellent defense will win you championships.

And where’s the commitment to his players? Just because he plays the nice guy doesn’t change the fact that he refuses to build a culture of respect and civil obedience among his players.
Those coaches you mentioned (with the eception of the Urb) do, and they win at the highest level. UGA has absolutely nothing to hang its hat on this season:
- Your offense is anemic
- Your defense is horrid
- Your team is undisciplined
- Your coordinators blame the players
- You won the Fulmer Cup.
Tell me ONE thing good about the UGA program right now. I could understand if UGA wasn’t winning but was running their program the right way. If you say you’re proud to be a Georgia Bulldog right now, I feel very bad for you- your standards are way too low.

The bottom line is the UGA program is broken from the fan base forward and has to be totally dismantled to the foundation and start all over again, however, no one has the patience to do this in Athens.
Mal Moore knew that Shula would not get it done, then went out and landed Saban. You see Alabama does not tolerate losing, UGA does.

It’s interesting reading the intelligent comments of which there really are quite a few if you can siphon through trash. I guess the bottom line is we all have our opinion, I wish people could keep them respectful. The season will play out, we will definitely win some, probably more than we lose. It’s going to be interesting to see what McGarity does, the situation has now gone far beyond the UGA nation. You hear the question on the national sports shows, is CMR on the hot seat. Most experts indicate he has one more year to right the ship. I am apparently among the few that believe McGarity could surprise everyone and make a change at the end of the year. I too as a couple of posters have indicated have lost confidence that CMR can take us back to the top in the SEC. There are just to many signs pointing in the other direction.

Hey Tucker, if you’d have asked Bill King about this you’d have known to mention to Mr. ‘Where’s the love’ Davis, that this ain’t nothin’ new in college football in general, and Georgia in particular. Back in 1959 Georgia had some success after a number of down years and one Bill Godfrey was quoted as saying ‘Folks sure are nice to you when you win’. It comes with the territory Josh. If you want to feel better about yourself, and if you want those around you to be in a better mood, then whip somebody’s butt instead of having your’s whipped.

How long is it going to take for UGA fans to realize that UGA is simply no longer relevant in the SEC? In the national picture, UGA isn’t even a blip on the radar, and hasn’t been since the preseason #1 ranking two years ago.
Sit back and be grateful for the seven or eight wins you’ll get every year. Coaching genius Mark Richt may take you to 8-4 or even 9-3 occasionally, but Florida will still win the SEC, meaning no BCS bowls and no top 10 final ranking. Most years, UGA will be very lucky to finish in the top 25, and only after a big bowl win over a nobody opponent.
It’s a different world now, and Dawg fans need to adjust their expectations downward to reflect reality.
Unfortunately nothing is going to change until UGA changes its mediocre coaching. That’s where the difference is, and that’s why everyone outside Dawgtard Nation just laughs at Dawg fans getting so excited year after year about what a great recruiting class UGA gets. It doesn’t matter how many blue chip high school players go to UGA, they simply don’t get the coaching they would get at Florida or Alabama, to name two schools whose programs are far ahead of UGA. And that’s not going to change as long as Mark Richt is in Athens.
Get your heads out of the sand and face reality. And mediocrity and irrelevance.
And get used to the feeling of hobnail boots grinding into your face.

What I hate about this is they always get it together by the time they play Tech. They slop around lose to teams they should beat and then show up against us. It is in em they just play like drunks most of the year and sober up around November, or the coaches do. Some of these game plans are written to keep the players happy and show off the recruits, then they play Tech and suddenly they understand ball control with rushing the football, defense with discipline. I want Georgia in the first of the year when they are still celebrating their early preseason polls. Not after they have walked around a campus that gives them the cold shoulder, then they wake up and put their guns on.
