Listening in on Mark Richt’s weekly radio call-in show Monday night:
Richt replied: “The bottom line is if you’re a true fan, in my opinion, you’re going to support your team no matter what. I don’t think you’re going to just love the boys when they win and hate on them when they lose, you know. . . . Our league is one that is a very, very tough league, and we’re not always going to win. We find ourselves 0-2 for the first time in 10 years, and it’s not a comfortable spot. It’s not a spot we want to be in. But it’s not like we got shellacked and run off the field. We actually, I thought, represented very well, even though we lost.
“The bottom line, of course, is the win. But the way the guys fought . . . there was a lot of courage; there was a lot of blood, sweat and tears. . . . If you just watch the spirit of these young men and how they fought and how the coaches fought, I think that is admirable. And I would say you certainly should continue to support for those reasons. . . . ”
“We looked at the film and realized every time that kid moved up inside that pocket good things happened and every time he started up and then dropped back again and tried to reload, something bad happened. So he’s just got to learn, and he’s getting there,” Richt said. “But you can’t question his toughness, his ability and just his love for the game and love for Georgia. So we’ve got the right guy right now. We’ve just got to keep going.”
“I did watch the TV copy myself, and I know the commentators were saying … there was no outlet, there was no short route, that there ought to be,” Richt said. “I don’t know what he saw, but there were actually two routes that were about a five- or six-yard depth and a couple of them that would be deeper routes.”
“It is a little disappointing,” Richt said. “I think the offensive-line play has been good but not great. Like you say, we got to find ways to sustain drives.
“I’d like to see us continue to run-block better, and I’d like to see us continue to pass-protect well, which I think we are. Some of the pass-protection issues really have nothing to do with the offensive line. It’s more back-related. The running backs have to step up and do their job too, and the receivers got to run the right routes, and the QB has got to put it on them.”
Murray, Richt said, needs to develop “a better feel” for when a receiver is open.
As for run-blocking, “we need to continue to … provide more space for the backs,” Richt said. “And the backs have got to get more than what [the linemen] block, too. If you watch around the country, you see backs breaking tackles, you see backs getting yards after contact and all that. I think we improved in that area last ballgame, but we still got a ways to go.”
“There were a lot of calls that were made where Orson was the No. 1 priority or No. 1 read for the quarterback,” Richt said. “Sometimes that No. 1 option is taken away, so you go to No. 2. Sometimes protection breaks down. Sometimes the QB is moving right or left at the moment when he should be cutting the ball loose to his primary receiver. Those were some of the issues.”
“You’d be surprised,” Richt said, “but the same things we did when we were finishing in the top 10 and all of that kind of good stuff — we’re doing those very same things. Sometimes you win some close games and sometimes you don’t, but right now I can promise you our coaches, our players are battling as hard as we can to get a victory. That’s going to be the plan for this week against Mississippi State. Hopefully, next time on the show, we’ll be talking about all the good things that happened.”

Second! I think the key to the Bulldogs offensive problems are in Richt’s comments ” the things we were doing when finishinh in the top 10 …-we’re doing those very same things. Sometime you win, sometimes you don’t.” The coaching staff has not changed a thing and now everyone has their offense figured out, There is a clear lack of innovation. Secondly, he said” sometimes you win, sometimes you don’t” It would seem that the coaching staff has lost it’s fire and has accepted loosing as part of it.

This is clearly a situation that can be viewed two ways. But I think that a true fan is a true fan and even though I have four generations of Bulldogs in my family, I have thought that too many of us are fair weather fans. I was there for Johnny Griffith and Ray Goff. Trust me, Mark Richt is a good coach.

I don’t think the first caller mentioned was in any way saying that he did not support the Georgia Bulldogs, It sounds like what he really wanted to say was “sell me on this inept coaching staff.” I for one am sick and tired of year after year these clowns putting their blame on the players. First of all Richt, after being the HC of this program for ten years, should not have to be starting a raw, freshman QB with no game experience. There is no reason for this, only excuses. There is a big difference. Alabama had McCarron on the field in the third quarter in their game, because Saban knows he has a senior QB this year. I’ve got news for you, there is not an OL in our league that is playing worse than UGA’s OL. I surely thought he would have had better sense than to talk about how they are doing the same things, that is exactly what Kiffin said, and not in a good way. By the way, the coach’s and media can give A.J. Green a pass for what he did, but I can tell you that many, many fans are not. UGA needs players who have Georgia’s football program at heart, not the NFL, or making money otherwise off of the program. This is a big reason that many UGA supporters feel that they did not accomplish anything with Stafford and Moreno. These players only had the big NFL paychecks on their mind the whole time they were at UGA. The money people who support UGA with very large contributions to the atheletic dept. have just about had it, and Georgia’s new A.D. will be under pressure to right this ship. Mark Richt has probably made as much money in ten years in Athens as Dooley did in 25 years, and there is no reason for UGA to be in the shape it’s in right now. Sad to say, but fans are not going to be impressed with a victory over hapless Mississippi State, these teams who we have already lost to are ranked where they are now because of the victories they just got over UGA, and Georgia FANS are not ever going to be happy in losing to teams like SC, Arkansas, Kentucky ect. These are gimme games on our schedule, whether Richt likes it or not FANS expect to win these games every year. Richt is doing himself and his inept coaching staff no favors by getting on the radio and calling out FANS because most of the FANS who are close enough to Georgia Football to call radio shows know enough about footbal to know when they are being snowed. With this all being said, I have supported Coach Richt for ten years, and do hope the best will work out, but I, like many FANS are smart enough to know that Mike Bobo ain’t getting it done. Now that being said, Todd Grantham, given a few more players and enough time for the current players to learn what to do will probably be fine. Even Van Gorder could not stop four teams in his first season. Coach, the bottom line is the FANS are behind UGA Football, they are just not sold on how this team is being coached, especially on the offense, and the perception that Richt can’t control his team is very, very real.

I like Mark Richt. I think he is a great guy. But there are some serious problems going on in Athens. And its just not this year. Its ongoing. And at this point I would have to say its coming from the top—-and it always does. And I dont know if its Richt or Adams or both but—well I guess more will be revealed at some point in the future. I would like to see Georgia win their next game but —-wont be shocked if they lose. And I wont hate em either. Its just the way things are right now. This too shall pass. The sun is going to shine tommorrow.

you cannot underestimate the loss of AJ Green and how it effects the dynamics of Georgia’s offense. as for the defense, unfortunately we’re nothing short of a work in progress. everyone needs to cool their jets and give this team a chance to gell. as bad as the 1-2 start is these kids are improving each week. a win in starkville will give them a boost in confidence and with AJ’s return we’ll be fine in the long run.

Bye Coach Richt, should have sucked up your pride and brought back BVG(Junkyard Dawg),for what ever amount it took. But not CMR we get $800,000 a year of bad defence.Same D as last year just four times the price tag.Bobo has alot of presure this year, with having a new QB.Also no caleb king that’s been big, caleb does good in big games and dosen’t fumble. In other years in the past the Defence would step up when the offence was down.(during the first four years when needed anyway).Bobo has a 6-1 QB that isn’t shockley,he’s not nearly as fast, and can’t scramble like shockley. He’s no David Green with his arm,or with his knewledge of what’s going on with defences, not saying thats Aaron’s fault it’s just going to take sometime. The defence should know how to cover widerecievers, and tackle. All I have to say is BVG (Junkyard Dawg)for uga head coach, with a really good OC.He could fire up the whole team instead of just the defence. BVG next head coach at uga.

As for my prior comments, I am a die-hard UGA fan and have been for 30+ years. I also like Coach Richt, however, I think that Bobo is a major problem and needs to go. It seems tha we need an entire new offensive coaching staff that has some fresh ideas. The players are playing their hearts out and it saddened me that Bobo was placing much of the blame on his players and did not have the humility to take any blame for himself. personally DO NOT want to lose CMR but if he does nothing with Bobo and the Bulldogs decline continues then he is going to take Richt down with him. If left alone, Grantham and the defense will be fine, but Bobo has had 5 years and the offense has been in a steady decline since he to over as OC.

The usc game DC Todd was running a 4-3 scheme most of the game.so what’s new about that. It’s todd’s job to have these player ready for the game. They haven’t been.If you look at recruiting, why doesn’t uga recruit taller QB’s.Seems like stafford came in and bob took over play call at the end of the year, but coach richt was suppost to be calling the plays during that time, and it was decided during the year bobo would. After that it’s Cox 6-2,now Aaron 6-1.Zack was 6-4 or 5 he got kicked out as everybody knows,I don’t disagree with that.We have a QB comming in that is 6-2,it’s hard to play in the sec if your a short QB.It makes it worse when your in a pro-stile offence. We keep getting dual threat QBs.But it’s funny we went after bigger QB when richt was play calling.BVG all we’ve got let to hope for,if not the caleb king comming back.

…with the comments CMR made re: “sometimes you win, sometimes you don’t” he has sunk to the level of the former GT athletics director who said that sinning 7-8 games a year was all that GT would ever accomplish; he was gone the next year. Then, when they finally decided to pull the trigger and get rid of the coach who also bought into that thought process, they got a guy whose philosophy is “good teams don’t lose two games in a row (unless one of those is a bowl game after a season ending loss – like last year).
So, it appears that it IS time for a change at UGA – the “staff of coaches has changed”, but the product on the field has remained the same, with the players still making mistakes that are ALL coaching mistakes. Time to look at the top and make the change there, as the players continue to be poorly coached, and then the coaches throw them under the bus rather than man up and say that the problem is with the coaching.
CMR is an honorable guy, and he used to be a good coach. Now he is an honorable guys whose time has passed, just as Jim Donnan’s did, and it will be Mr. McGarity’s first priority to right this ship, and sooner, rather than later…

Maybe this is a comment for a different day, but “bdawg” I have to respectfully disagree with your post. Ok players stay, great ones don’t. Then explain why Pollack came back for his senior year. Loyalty has nothing to do with being a great player, it has everything to do with where you grew up. Take Moreno and Stafford for example. They were from New Jersey and Texas respectively. Translation, they didn’t give two sh!ts about UGA other than a scholarship and a means to the NFL. Could be the same with Green, we won’t know till next year (and don’t get me wrong I’m not knocking him right now). I’m just saying that being from the state, and growing up around the diehard fans of UGA, you care more about the program. And THAT is why Durham is still here. He is a TRUE Georgia Bulldog.

How many beat downs did they administer to UGA? MR 2- 7 versus FL, about to be 2 – 8. But as long as we beat the little trade school off North Ave. all is forgiven. Lamers
And our vaunted dawgs under MR? 2 S.E.C. championships in 10 years, No N.C.’s. No hope of anything greater since Cryer and Saban came to SEC. Even Spurrier and SC have passed MR by. Also Petrino, who I dislike immensely is a better coach then MR.

Why don’t we just schedule Texas and finish the Barnyard Hat Trick…losing to the chickens, hogs and the cows….Seriously…” we’re doing those very same things”…therein lies the problem. An antiquated version of the Pro-I that you are trying to execute with non-athletic OLs attempting to block faster players with bizarre blocking schemes. Record a GA game sometime and look how many times the integrity of the guard -center box is compromised by not blocking inside gaps…this is not rocket science just Football 101. Combine that with poor coaching prep…no punt contain..again?….and middle school play selection and it’s a formula for disaster. I’m sure the “effort” is there but you are asking these players to cut down a redwood with a butter knife…great skills and ablity and desire but they just don’t have the right tools. gomdawg you lost all credibility when you questioned AJ’s heart. Did you see the hits this kid took for Cox last year? Cox hung him up in the air with high passes over half the time. No fan in an armchair gets to question this kids heart. AJ if you read this, ignore that putz.
As for the rest of you calling for a new coach. I am to the point that I agree on BoBo. But the truth is, as fans we have no idea what is supposed to happen on a given play as opposed to what gets played out on the field. So a new O-coordinator may or may not be a magic bullet.
The biggest question I had was answered and I believe Coach Richt. We never did have a good TV angle of that whole play on 3rd and 4 where we had the ball and our timeouts and got sacked. That was the ballgame. If Richt says we had a short route then we had one. End of story. The guy wouldnt lie about it.
Those of you who want Richt gone, who do you want to replace him and why do you think that person could do better? Saban aint going nowhere. Alabama has money too.
We lost to maybe two of the better SEC teams. Alabama is in a class by itself right now but SC and Arkansas have moved into the top tier. And yes…that hurts.

Florida’s offensive line. Xavier Nixon, Carl Johnson Mike Pouncey, Maurice Hurt, Marcus Gilbert. Copy them, they win. Move Josh Davis to left tackle, He’s athletic enough, Glenn stays at left guard. How in the heck does Burnette suffer a concussion this far into practice?! Bean back to right guard. ( No to Tanner Strickland) and Sturdivant to right tackle for less stress on the knee. Most schools move defensive lineman to offense if they need to become more aggressive, Uga moves its most agressive offensive lineman ( Bean and Tripp to backup DLs.). Only at the UGA!

I tried to tell you UGA fans over the summer….Richt is done. He is a fine man and he is a good coach, but sometimes, a coach loses the team and he has def lost the team. If Richt was going to win one he would have won one by now. After 10 years a coach if he hasnt won a title must rethink everything he is doing. Richt doesnt have that edge that Saban, Meyer, or even Les Miles has. Richt is soft and the players getting in trouble is evidence of that. The players do not fear him. Richt will keep you competative, but he will never win you another SEC title. His recruiting and hiring of coaches has been mediocre at best since Shockley left. His allegience to Bobo is remarkable, a guy who hasnt developed a QB yet. Before you call BS on that consider that since he has been OC look at their play…Greene and Shockley don’t count….you got Terishinsky, Stafford, Cox, and Murray….Bobo couldn’t even win an SEC title with the NFL’s first draft pick. Anyway, UGA is done with Richt…it’s just a matter of time. He is soft and can’t turn things around. The only thing that will fire up this program is a new head coach…not hiring DC’s for 750K.

Hey Slawdawg…great comments, alot of these bloggers truly are fair weather fans…I’m not excited about where we are also, but i think we can still have a very good season, we need to improve on offense and i do have some issues with ouir lack of production there, and not just this year…the defense is learning a new system so it is only fair to give Coach Grahtham a little time there…I see one blogger wanted to bring BVG back as head coach..well i won’t say that he isn’t a fine coachl, but he didn’t do so well at Georgia Southern…The problem that Coach Richt has with expectations is that Bama and Gators have done so well that everyone is behind them right now…What the dawgs need to do is to continue to recruit well, and we are doing that…What alot of people don’t realize is that as good as our talent has been and despite the recruiting rankings(which to me means very little until they suit up for Div 1 ball), Bama, Gators, LSU, Auburn, have been getting as good if not better recruiting classes if you believe the scouting services…Bama and the Gators have been ranked number 1 or at best number 3 the last few years…So as good as we have been other teams are giving out scholarships also…Coach Richt made some critical changes this off season and i would expect if the offense continues to struggle this season i am confident that additional changes will be made…The ones calling for a change in the head coach and wanting a savior, well be careful for what you wish for…Who will come here and guarentee instant success..Is the dawg nation ready to be patient with another new system and the loss of the outstanding recruiting class that we appear to be putting together….And as far as recruiting, there is an outstanding RB in South Ga, that the dawgs need very badly…I know one player is not the only answer, but we are weak in that area in my opinion, and a speedy RB with power could be the piece that opens up our offensive game..At this point i think we have some good backs but they really do not break tackles and usually go down on initial contact…The O-Line has not played great i will give you that, but the RB’s have to create something themselves and i just don’t see that very often…

UGA is in a FUNK. That is to say that they were snake bit for the first game with SC. They were timid about doing battle without their man man AJ. That disgusts me. UGA went into a funk and cannot get out now ……………too much negativity is swirling and it is gonna bet much worse with the staff, etc . The team’s energy now is negativity …………out weighing any pathetic positives that the coaching staff and render. Too late now.
AJ and his selfish antics have caused this team to slide. As HC, I would ask AJ to take a hike. I would win or lose without him. We can go forward without the cancer that has afflicted this squad.
College is about traditions and memories ………….AJ will be forgotten as soon as the season is over. He will have 0 legacy at UGA ………………when he is older, he will realize that.

“Georgia is the easiest team on our schedule to prepare for. They are doing the same stuff they’ve been doing for 10 years.” – Lane Kiffin, 2009.

I can’t believe how many of you really think that Richt is doing a bad job. Most of you probably didn’t graduate from UGA and surely have GED’s. He is by far one of the best coaches in the SEC. He can’t help that our main offensive weapon has been out for 4 games. This is also BS since Marcel Darius of Alabama did worse things and only got 2 games. Defenses have to make special plans for AJ ie. double teams. This would allow Murray more options over the middle with which he can use to hit TE’s over the middle. You guys have to stop this crap, if you get rid of Richt, who do you bring in. What would happen is what heppened in Tennessee when they got rid of Fulmer. We would probably have a three or four year stretch of mediocrity. Nobody wants that. So get your head together and be glad that we have had the type of success we’ve had these last eight years and be thankful Richt hasn’t had enough of us as fans and leaves for another job.

UGA is starting a Freshman QB for the following reason:
2006-2008 Matthew Stafford was THE QB-1.
UGA skipped one year for sure in bringing in a QB and then what High School player that would be deemed ELITE would wanna go ride the pine for 2-3 years behind the future #1 pick. UGA could not recruit the calibur QB it wanted to b/c of Stafford.
In 2009 they were finally able to address the manor with the right talent in Murray and Mett. Also do not forget Grey was the Missouri Mr. Football his Senior year.
So the coaching staff attempting to address the issue, but as long as Stafford was entrenched as QB-1 they were not going to bring in a legit stud. Its as simple as that.

Fans are fickle everywhere, but fans of college programs aren’t going to really pull thier dollars unless they simply don’t have any belief in the program going foward. Mark Richt was as good as Georgia has every had for 5 years, unfortunately he’s been really average the last 5. Fans never go away, they just go dormant. It’s not like they are going to switch teams. They just lost faith in the coach because of several years now of regression and underachievement. Les Miles actually WON a National Championship and the people in Baton Rouge have had enough of him too because of his offense. When you pop the “True Fans” term… oh brother…it’s not getting better soon. True Fans…means essentially Friends and Family…and that’s about it.
People see other teams getting better around them with Georgia not making any significant improvements. Coaches get into trouble when they regress or underachieve. They’ve got serious issues with talent in more than a few areas right now and it’s making the coaching look that much worse.

From my seat, there was NO short route on the 3rd and 4.
I think our coaches clearly are not recruiting or coaching the players very well. Remember when CMR and Bobo said Samuels was clearly our #1 RB last year or yr before, and was identified as the best RB going into fall. Wow if you can’t ID your kids better than that… well you have a problem.
I haven’t heard Saben blame not having Ingram the 1st 2 games. He just brought out another huge strong fast RB and ran behind a very well coached OL. Where would our RB’s fall on Bama’s depth chart? Where would any of our starters fall on Bama’s depth chart?
Time for Tough Love Coach. Your passive approach is not working and will not work. I am fully behind CMR’s values but someone has to be the Erk Russell type and put some disipline and fire in this team. CMR please sign up for a drill sergant crash course! You won’t make it without it

1. I’m surprised Richt watched the TV copy. I didn’t knwo coaches did that sort of thing. Spielman should refrain from speaking unless he’s talking about defense or special teams. He knows nothing about offense.
2. The old way isn’t working anymore coach. That’s the problem. The game has changed. Its not 2002 anymore. Its not even 2005 anymore. The SEC has taken it to another level and we are falling behind. I know we can bounce back but doing things the old way won’t get us there.
3. Murray is doing an excellent job for a freshmen and if you think he is the problem you are a brainless worthless idiot. All offense intended.

We vote with our dollars and the caller was trying to get Richt to give a reason to keep paying for the dismal performances we see on Saturdays. Richt shamed fairweather fans instead.
I don’t think he gets it. His attitude towards losing has always been way too passive. Just as his attitude towards penalties and arrests have been way too passive. I think he passively prepares the team on exactly what to do when they fail…rather than actively preparing them not to fail.

Richt needs a reality check. Things are NOT good with his team and the buck stops with him. His teams are barely competitive in the SEC anymore and he is the guy in charge. His players are undisciplined on and off the field and that is unacceptable….particularly OFF the field. Too many players’ behavior and conduct is embarrassing to the University. Richt needs to face the fact that the problems his teams are having start at the top. He needs to stop moonlighting for extra cash doing ads and focus on his day job….coaching, and that includes on and off the field. He has been given all the resources necessary to win at the highest level and it is not happening…not even close.

Advice to georgia:
1. FIRE that Bozo DC – todd grantham – the new joke of the SEC.
2. Give BooBoo some time to work that new QB
3. Layoff Richt…seriously, lay him OFF! nobody does less with more than him.
QUESTION:
1. Where were the defensive backs in the game vs arky??
New SEC Joke of the season:

One thing that continues to bother me is the dad-gum dancing that UGA players do. I’ve played organized ball and been a football fan all my life and I’ve never seen a bunch of players more concerned about their dance moves than our boys in red and black.
It also bothers me when we go 3 and out on offense and the players run off the field without a care in the world. Seems to me it should bother a couple of them?
Maybe if the players stopped hugging and kissing each other when they make a tackle or gain a couple of yards?

Bama fan – there is a substantial difference in the quality of athletes that Alabama is getting and the quality of athletes overall that Georgia is getting. They simply don’t have the number of great players that they did 5 years ago. Other than AJ Green…there really aren’t any game changers on the Georgia team.. Lots of good players…almost no great players. Certainly none that can take over a game like Green. The talent at Georgia has eroded. At Alabama and Florida they can just plug in someone else. It’s simply not the case at Georgia. They don’t have it. IF they did, we would have seen it by now.

Dawg Face, our lack of consistency killed us that year. Those were wins over our rivals and they were good. Our losses against USC and UT that year were killers. Truly significant, don’t think so, because of the earlier losses. Had we won either UT or SC they would have been significant IMO. I also remember that as the year of the gimmicks, i.e. storming the field, blacking out AU.
I did hold out some hope that with the way we finished that year CMR had turned the corner.

Look for UGA to be 6-2 going into the UF game and look for us to finally get over the hump in that one. The only loss I see possibly the rest of the way is Auburn who is playing as tough as anyone in the SEC. I still think we are a 10-2 team in the end with a possible SEC East championship. It all depends on USC who I believe at this time is the class of the SEC East.

The economy is tough right now and well quite frankly Mr. Shareholder sometimes you close the big deal, sometimes you lose to you competition. I’ve been as guilty as anybody about criticizing this team, but ‘old dawg’ reminded me that loyalty, is just that – ‘being loyal’ to something you treasure and believe in. I can get as frustrated as the next guy but the fact is they’re my team and my school and all that goes with it. I’m also reminded of something my wife said years ago while we were attending a Georgia game. She didn’t go all that often and primarily cared about it because she didn’t want to have to deal with my moods when we lost, but on this day she said something that struck me…we were gettin’ beat pretty bad by somebody or other and I offered for us to leave early to beat the rush and/or to get to the booze. She said ‘Why should we be able to leave? The players can’t leave.’ In that one statement a less than fanatical fan summed up who, as fans, we need to be. We’re all in this together and that’s the way it is.
I have every faith in Mark Richt to fix this and make us better…and those that are intent on staying on his back are just making the job tougher.

Richt sounds like a defeated man. The answers he gave to these questions from fans are sad. I believe in the Dawgs and the fact that we can still salvage a decent season (by our high standards), and I have always been a Mark Richt fan. However, I think we must win at least 2 of the 3 remaining big games (Vols, Gators, Tigers). If we cannot do this, I am sorry to say that changes must take place in the offseason. We need a coaching staff that can get our guys ready to play every week with fire and passion. If our current coaches can’t do this from here on out, Bobo at the very least should be fired. Maybe even Richt. In today’s college football world, it takes more than talent and conservative (sometimes even idiotic) playcalling. We simply have too much talent each year to waste on 3,4, and 5-loss seasons while Florida and Alabama steal the spotlight. Go Dawgs!

Get off the fire the coach bandwagon! Ask Tennessee what running off a classy, stable coach does to a program. You end up with a guy who “wins” the press conference but not much else. Also remember this is not the NFL you can’t build a foundation of players becuase they leave after 3-5 years. I mean think about it Knowshon would be a senior this year had he stayed, and if college were like the pros you would have signed David Greene and Pollack to longterm contracts. But it isn’t like that and you go through cycles/growing pains with developing talent. Mark Richt took us from the fringe to relevance. Stick by him and by the team or go to the gas station and buy a Bammer hat. The embarrassment to me as a fan and ALUMNUS is that our fans show late and leave early. So if that is you go follow another team and quit badgering our coach with your moronic questions. HE DOESN”T OWE US ANYTHING!

Sounds like Coach Richt continues to find reasons why Dawg fans should rejoice in playing close games and losing. Somehow, his standards have deteriorated to the point whereby UGA should be celebrating close loses because he saw improvement. It seems to me that if our linemen took bigger splits, running lanes would be there, but we continue to line up nearly foot to foot. This season is shot. I look for UGA to win a few games late in the year and CMR to proclaim all is well, then next year have the same kind of crappie team.

I know the plan was to have Zach throwing 75 yd bombs to AJ… and both games we lost would have looked a whole lot different had the first team been in there…

There were some missed assignments and blown coverages. They were the exception, not the norm like under WM.
The offense didn’t hold up its end of the deal or we would be 3-0 right now.

Totally agree
Coachdawg 2000 & others like him – why is it you have to be a “fair weather fan” because you are upset or concerned with the state of the program?
No one is disputing that Richt has done a lot for UGA, but where is the consistency?
Who’s fault is it that we are even in the situation of having to start a redshirt freshman at QB in the first place?!
The offensive playcalling is stale at best, our players don’t play with intensity or fire…until it’s too late. I would be less concerned if I didn’t see sparks or flashes of what our team could be. At least then you could say he’s doing the best with what he’s got. But can you or any other blind follower HONESTLY say Richt and Co. are getting the most out of our players on a CONSISTENT basis?
If the Dawgs had played against SC and Arkansas the way they played against UF-L AND the last qtr of the Ark game, we could quite well be 3-0 or at least 2-1. When you get to see ON OCCASION what they can do with focus and determination it is disheartening to see that they are not motivated to sustain that level of play through 4 quarters of football.
The talent IS there, what’s missing is the motivation and THAT falls squarely on the shoulders of the coaches. When I see a coach walking the sidelines who APPEARS not to have a care in the world regardless of what’s going on the field and HEAR him make statements that basically say “you win some, you lose some” How can anyone be surprised by the product on the field? Wake up people SOMETHING IS WRONG in Athens. I don’t know if he’s lost his desire to coach or his ability to motivate or some combination, but the Mark Richt I’ve seen over the past 5yrs is NOT the same Mark Richt I saw the first 5 years.
It’s not about being a fair weather fan or jumping off the bandwaggon, it’s about caring about the program and recognizing that something is wrong. If you and the rest of the blind homers want to be lemmings and follow CMR and the program off the cliff that’s your choice, but DO NOT question the loyalty or passion I or anyone else who’s critical of the CURRENT state of the program as disloyal or fair-weathered.

I think you guys will be fine. There is a huge learning curve that comes with the 3-4 and both GT and UGA are having some tough moments. You just don’t get out there and shut people down because you have a new DC and there is an entire system being replaced and sometimes old habits play a factor as well.
I think by the time we play the rival game, both of these defenses will be playing well. I think both grantham and groh know how to teach and coach very well. As fans we have to be realistic and show patience to be fair. The big difference at UGA to me, is you have a freshman QB and your offensive line was said to be the best in the SEC, but have not lived up to the hype. Murray is going to be a heck of a QB before he leaves, but he will have to take some bruises along the way. I expect him to take some this season. It will only make him better as he moves along. Georgia will rebound and finish strong imo. You guys have too much talent not to turn it around. We have our issues as well, but i think we can still win 8-9 games. I think both teams will win 8-9 games this season. That’s nothing to hang your head about with a freshman QB, and our big 4 we lost in the draft who left early.

The Bulldogs are 2-6 in the past eight SEC games and 1-5 against the SEC East. While some may point to the absence of AJ and Bobo’s poor play calling, Georgia came back at the end of the Arkansas game. It was the defense that folded in the final withering moments under new coordinator Todd Grantham (who is stealing at $750,000 annually). CP225 you talk about supporting your team, then do so by demanding that Richt win or be canned!

Mark Twain once said, “There are a thousand excuses for failure, but never a good reason.” No more excuses should be acceptable from this coaching staff. In 2008, they had at their disposal two first round and one second round NFL picks on offense by the names of Stafford, Moreno, and Massaquoi. What were the results of this pre-season #1 ranked team? Lost to Florida 10-49, lost to the Tide 30-41, and also lost to Tech 42-45. Obvious conclusion: it doesn’t matter which players you give this staff, NFL prospects or green pea freshmen. The results speak for themselves. Cased closed, Kirby Smart on line 1.

Phil Fulmer made headlines over the weekend by blasting Lane Kiffin during his stint on CBS’ coverage of the Florida-Tennessee game. Most of what he said was pretty much the way everyone outside of the Trojan Nation feels about Lanie but one thing he said was wrong. Fulmer said Kiffin’s “arrogant attitude turned people off.” Not so fast, my bloated friend. His arrogant attitude turned people off around the SEC. But Tennessee fans loved it until the day he left them in a haze of mattress smoke. They thought they had their version of Steve Spurrier. You know, without the winning and stuff.

Bulldawg nation I understand the anxiety I have it too but we lost to two good football teams this year I believe that were both more mature than we were in key areas..Dont let the early losses fool you because it does look uglier when you lose early in the season especially two conference games but with that being said I believe we are going to finish 10-2 and win the SEC east…South carolina with their conference schedule is going to finish 5-3 in the conference. Florida will lose to alabama and us and we will get the tie breaker at 6-2 in the conference. Our team has been battle tested against two strong teams early in the season and this only will make things alot easier on us as the season goes by..Arkansas is going to scare Alabama next week folks mark that down. Their offense is going to make fans of many teams question their defensive coordinators..lol. I cant wait for Todd grantham to get his players into the system we will have faster linebackers with closing speed that will stop the little underneath routes to running backs like you saw arkansas do to us. And we will have a taller and more physical secondary, not willie martinez’s secondary. Just give it a year or two on defense. Offensively I have been wanting bobo to go for a long time but if our offensive line would man up it would help things out tremendously and our running backs have NO VISION that worries me so we must get isiah crowell at Georgia next year that can make plays even when the offensive line is not at their best. If you thought murray looked good so far wait until kris durham and aj green are on the field at the same time. I will close by saying firing coach richt this season would be a disaster unless he only won like 4 or 5 games because we need this deep recruiting class bad in Georgia this year! Also for those that say we need to hire kirby smart I am sorry but would be a terrible hire he has proven absolutly nothing to me that would make me believe he is a good head coach. At alabama nick saban is the defensive coordinator not kirby smart I can assure you that. That would be another ray goff in the making! I think the team is playing better, not good, but is improving each week. The O line and the running backs just have to do a better job. Bobo calls the plays but the team has to execute them. The plays are not the problem, the execution is. The D is improving and will get better. The punting game has to get better. Still think a shot at 8 and 4, but probably 7 and 5.

I was a Cub fan for 58 years until this year. I am done. I have put in my time with little to show for it. I watched a high paid manager sleepwalk through a season and the players show little life.
I really like Mark Richt as a person, but he and his staff are poor judeges of character and seemingly not that great at choosing football talent as GA is an average football team. This could easily be a .500 team. Behavior of athletes is subpar. I worry about a D-Coach who is only places for 2-3 years at a time. Probably happen here as well.
With a new AD it may be time for a change in staff.

What saddens me the most is Richt’s comments on the call in show about not changing anything in the ten years he’s been there.. That comment alone shows the state of this program and the unwillingness of this coaching staff to make the necessary changes to keep up.. Will he wait another 5 years while he watches Bobo coach this offense into the ground as he did with Martinez and the defense. Also the offensive line coach must go. There is no excuse other than coaching for them to be playing at such a mediorce level..

“the state of the program” is the meat of the problem. The conversation now is totally in frame with what reality has been the whole time. Georgia was the number one preseason team in the country just two years ago. They got that because of the hype from papers like the AJC, Tony B. moonlighting the network jobs with his propaganda machine. Many of us were looking at them as escape artist even then, given a physiological edge by the hype and a recruiting edge being promoted over other schools in the area. Now South Carolina, Arkansas and I believe Auburn and Georgia Tech have, program wise, past them. This is not a one year’s temporary condition, last year they had the number one quarterback in the country, the number one receiver and still had their lunch handed to them. Where do you see it getting any better than that? Over in Columbia ,where Spurrier has been given every disadvantage the local press can hand out, his best teams are ahead of him not behind him. UGA can’t beat him now, they never will beat him. He is getting old and he will go out with the last laugh. Now the other teams in the conference are leaving Ga. in the dust too.

Ok, I am ok with him becoming the CEO and turning it over to the assistants. But he forgot one important issue, now his only job is to coach up the assistants. If they are uncoachable then he needs to fire them. He is too close to Bobo and will NEVER fire him. The only option for him would be to demote Bobo because Richt cares too much for Bobo’s wife and kids. Honorable but not his job.

Along with the lack of involvement by the TEs, why isn’t Marlon Brown used more for his size (6′5″) and leaping ability like AJ Green? It’s that he works the middle of the field and he’s shown he has great hands when given a shot. He could be just as much a threat on deep pass/jump balls and endzone passes as AJ–even when AJ comes back. It just doesn’t seem like the offense (Bobo) is utilizing their weapons to the fullest. This WR corps should already be a juggernaut even with a Freshman QB.

How many SEC coaches since 1990 kept/ had their jobs more than 10 years? I can only think of Fulmer. Spurrier left on his own. Richt is own his last leg, like Tubberville. The fans like what he does for the most part, but he has stopped getting better. When a coach keeps finishing behind Bama, LSU, Florida, and Tennesse for a few years they end up getting fired. Richt will feel the Fulmer-Tubberville crunch shortly. Coaches don’t stay around like Pertno and Bowden anymore. Get your team better and take the next best job offer is the only way to survive in the coaching game. Name 1 UGA Coach that went to a better job after being the head man at UGA? Vince was forced out, Donnan, Goff are there anymore?

Richt said, “… the same things we did when we were finishing in the top 10 and all of that kind of good stuff — we’re doing those very same things.”
Another way to look at it is that doing the same things they were doing years ago may have worked then, but they’re not working any more. Phil Fulmer’s, Mike Shula’s and Tommy Tuberville’s are all gone.
Smart businesses continually take inventory and re-evaluate themselves to see what’s working and what isn’t. The perception from the outside is that UGA’s football program hasn’t kept up with the times, changes grudgingly and only after it’s become obvious to everyone. (For example, Willie Martinez.)
The feeling is that the program is stodgy and unimaginative, because that’s the kind of product UGA is putting on the field.

I do not understand why some of yall insist on looking at the ‘01-’05 period as some type of flawless coaching. In ‘01 we lost directly because of poor coaching(running up the gut with :16 on the clock and no timeouts) but because the next year we won the SEC championship all is forgotten. At some point the players have to do what they are told. If any of you have kids you know that you can show them, tell them what to do but you can’t do it for them. Alot of the guys CMR and Bobo deal with were the very best players in their leagues. Sometimes these guys athletic superiority was so vast that in high school they could out-athlete everybody. Now everybody is as good if not BETTER and they fall into freelancing instead of doing what they’ve been coached to do(think Matthew Stafford). For all of the “why don’t we have more experienced Quarterbacks. No uber-talented guy wanted to come in and watch Stafford play so we end with only Joe Cox and 2 freshman in ‘09. Coach Richt does need to examine the way things are done(which I’m sure he does!)and see if there are some things that need to be tweeked.

ugakev…. you are truly delusional. 10-2 WAS NOT possible before the season started, and now that the 2 is already there, there is no reason to believe that the 10 will show up. The pups will lose at least 3 more between Missy St., Kentucky, Florida, Auburn, and GT. As I have said many times over the past several months, consider a record of 8-4 as a GREAT season. They are already an underdog to Missy St., and I predict that Murray will not handle the cowbell atmosphere very well. Your best bet is to force TO’s like LSU did last week. Oh, that’s right, LSU has a pretty good D, something you guys are still looking for. Maybe the next week with Colorado the pups will get back to playing some comparable competition. Watch out for Kentucky, a team with many more offensive weapons than CMR has at his disposal. In fact, Randall Cobb and Derrick Locke could come play for the pups and immediately be the best offensive players on the team. Remember, 8-4 = GREAT SEASON.

To I agree… Just wanted to correct one thing in your paragraph where you actually were giving credit to GT on its direction where you said –
“Then, when they finally decided to pull the trigger and get rid of the coach who also bought into that thought process, they got a guy whose philosophy is “good teams don’t lose two games in a row (unless one of those is a bowl game after a season ending loss – like last year)”
GT has not lost two games in a row under CPJ yet. The losses to UGA and Iowa were broken up by winning the ACC championship over Clemson. Now this is not to say that we won’t ever lose two games in a row. In fact, law of averages guarantees it. I also can guaranteed that CPJ will be reminded of that quote (which I agree with) when it happens. I am hoping that does not make excuses as CMR does and simply states that evidently we are not a good team and need to prove that we are.
As for UGA – you guys did well on the defensive side by getting rid of your coordinator and I also agree with “I agree” that you may need to look at staffing that does what it needs to to win and keep its kids out of trouble.
As a GT fan I actually want both UGA and GT to become and stay strong in their respective conferences so we can keep that Georgia talent in state and out of FL, TN Sc and AL teams.
Good luck and see you in Nov.

“Coaches don’t stay around like Pertno and Bowden anymore.” With the millions they pay these guys each one owes his school accountability. And if that is not realistic neither is the salary they accepted and never complained about. With the money they are paying that man down in Alabama they would have hung him if he had not produced. Coaches use to have to teach PE just to make ends meet for themselves along with their coaching duties. We keep returning to that logic when we talk about expectations. Richt’s expense account is bigger than Dooley’s entire budget for paying coaches when he first broke in. How many college programs can say “we got our money’s worth” in this modern era? The press doesn’t care to correct any of this, they are part of the welfare too. So the only way a program rights itself is the mob gets restless outranks the PR machine and take charge of the problem themselves.

In Richt’s time at UGA…
LSU won a national championship Saban, replaced him with Miles and won another.
Florida has won two national championships with Meyer
Saban spent time in the NFL and returned to Alabama and went 12-1 in his 2nd year, and won it all last year in his 3rd.
Now, Arkansas appears to be passing UGA by in Petrino’s 2nd year
meanwhile…Richt and Co. are doing the same things they did 10yrs ago even though every other program has gone through coaching changes and are all doing things differently. Where is the program evaluation, where’s the self evaluation?
Again no one is disputing what Richt has done at UGA, but you can hardly compare his results of the 1st 5yrs to the last. Save 07 what has he done? And really that was a quirky year anyway where we had a two-loss national champion and a two-loss #2 team, has that ever even happened in the modern era? For those who will tout the “some of those national championships were won with luck” I say this luck is where PREPERATION and opportunity meet. Maybe we haven’t been lucky because we haven’t been prepared properly. This year is a prime example. Florida has lost some teeth, Tenn is down, and we respond opening the season 0-2 in conference play.
Coachdawg 2000 – you make some interesting points in your 11:55 post, but let me ask you this, How is it that Alabama and Florida seem to manage their talent and prevent “free-lancing” and we can not? What’s the difference? Could it be coaching?

Your running backs lack vision, don’t block and came so close to having us without a QB it’s scary. You can’t give the knowledgeable fans excuses when we see Urban with 2 rings, Nick with one(ACTUALLY 2, WITH LSU’s) and he did it at LSU, and ALA all in less than four years at each school. Your OC is garbage, and his play calling is questionable at best. Gratham will get his Defense right, this I can see just from last weeks performance against SC, to the performance against Ark. Coach one thing is evident, a team that lacks discipline off the field lacks it on it. Your team is un- disciplined, and by no means should a team that is 6th or 7th in the country in putting players in the NFL be losing to SC, or Ark. The only way your going to clean this mess up is win the next 8 and the Bowl game, and looking at Auburn, Tenn( There effort and heart) and Fla who we can’t ever beat consistently that’s a long shot. Bottom line Coach it’s time to get it together and stop giving excuses. You hold your players to a high standard( not high enough), so we in Bulldawg nation is are now telling you to get it together.

loyal fan I agree that Richt is a better coach; but if my sole goal was to beat Georgia, I would take Zook. Zooks problem was he could win the games that were tough. His problem was he could not get a team up for a game that they were favored in. Trust me with his 1-5 recent record against the East we hope he stays for as long as possible. Question though; doesn’t it bother you that he has lost games between the HEDGES to Kentucky and Vandy?

I think some changes need to be made at the end of the year by letting go of CMB and CSS the line isn’t playing all world like it was said during the pre-season and this offence you see on the field now is what we are going to be seeing next year because we do NOT have a talent at wide receiver like AJ coming in or on the roster right now. Another thing it is just pathetic at how few catches the TE have between the two of them 5 catches for 54 yards one of them is on the Mackey watch list for best tight end in the nation all we heard was how deep we were at TE and they aren’t getting the ball enough IMHO

The WR have been playing pretty doggone good this year. They’ve been leaping, falling down, and still making catches (when Murray isn’t on his back due to a missed block). It all starts up front. We can’t run the ball, can’t make a guy miss, can’t break a tackle. Hell even Buck, the biggest UGA homer of them all was saying this on 680 yesterday!!!

I would say that college football has evolved over the last 10 years. The league Richt coaches in today is not the same league it was when he took the job at Georgia. The HC’s are more talented as well as the players. You make changes to improve your position. Name one change with personnel Richt has made othe that Grantham in 10 years. There have been a few positions coach leave. ex: Kirby Smart.

Mark Ingram misses the first 4 games due to an injury, comes back, promptly runs for 40 yards on his first carry, hands the ball to the ref, high fives his teammates, and heads back to the huddle.
Ealey msses a game because of his own idiotic choices, comes back, racks up a mighty 3 yard run, gets up, flexes his muscles and beats his chest.
Actions speak louder than words Richt. You are 10-12 in the East since ‘05 and 8-8 in your last 16 home games.

It takes stamina and intensity along with a lot of smarts to be successful in the SEC today. Richt has lost the fire in his belly, it’s obvious in his voice, answers, intensity, and results. He has an occassional spark, aka, the 4th quarter gathering Saturday.
The finish to the 07 season was unique. The team gelled and developed some chemistry. Once they got rolling (gained confidence in themselves) they were tough. We haven’t seen anything close to that since, nor prior to 07 for two years. People are a product of their environment, no way you can deny that. CMR has let an environment of entitlement and mediocrity settle in Athens.
Whomever posted that CMR doesn’t owe us anything, ask yourself this. Would I pay an employee (which is what CMR is) blindly when they repeatedly demonstrated they are not delivering their moneys worth?

People have the right to complain, but there is no law against stupidity either. Richt is fine. I’d like to be 3-0 now, but go back and look at Vince Dooley’s year-by-year record at Georgia. If media and blogs were then what they were today, then Dooley would not had made it as long as Richt has. And I think that most of us would look at Dooley as a great coach.

Black and white is reality, the dismal performance overall is reality, it’s not grey, not debatable. Look at the record, the results. Listen to CMR, and Bobo’s explanations, weak and no meaning. Not once has he owned up to “there may be a problem with the way we’re preparing them”. How can you logically argue it?

The lack of execution and fire for winning does come from the top. Maybe AJ would have had the final pass to the inzone, but he is not the answer. The entire team doesn’t execute. AR’s first 3rd and 1 resulted in the most embarrassing open field reception and TD I’ve ever seen. I love my dawgs, that’s why I care about their success! CMR’s speech at the beginning of the 4th quarter is the only fire I’ve seen from him all year. He is an awesome man, but I agree, we’re tired of mediocrity!

Same crap we heard last year. There’s always an excuse for losing at Georgia. The bottom line is this team has no “dog” in them. That’s why they lose. They have more talent than most of the teams in the SEC, yet there is something missing when this team takes the field, and that starts at the top. Where was the tenacity and sense of urgency that we saw in the 4th qtr. of the Arkansas game the previous 3 qtrs. How does the team I watched in that 4th qtr. get pushed around the entire game against SC. It comes from poor preparation, a passive attitude, and a lack of execution. If this program continues under its current leadership, it will be many, many years before UGA wins another SEC championship, let alone a national title. And another thing, I’ve got a real problem with these fans who call out those who are critical of the program as “fair weather” fans. I’m a fan of the Dawgs win or lose, however, I know that the direction of this program is going backwards, and I will not stick my head in the sand and pretend that everything is okay. Ask yourself this, are 2 SEC titles in 10 years (0 in the last 5) underachieving at UGA? Look at everything this program has going for it compared to Florida, Alabama, and LSU. Georgia should be mentioned with those schools. This program is not even on a competitive level with Alabama or Florida! LSU isn’t either, but they won’t stand for it, so they will make a change at the end of this year. Meanwhile, UGA will continue to flounder in mediocrity.

Some of the talent they are getting Sick and Tired are overrated. Some are VASTLY overrated. Look at the defense. There’s no Richard Seymour on that line. NO Charles Johnson. No Quintin Moses. No Shawn Jones.
They have a lot of very good players, but no one that’s really great other than AJ Green.
Compare GA’s recent linebackers to other top teams. Alabama of late has had, Demeco Ryans, Rolando McClain…Donte Hightower etc.
Georgia has….wait for it… Dannell Ellerbe. Sure Rennie Curran was excellent, but he’s short. The talent is vastly overrated at Georgia in addition to coaches not getting them to grasp the techniques they want them to play with.
Georgia Tech has had almost as much if not better defensive talent than Georgia in the last several years.
Phillip Wheeler, Gary Guyton etc. Those guys were better players than most of the guys at Georgia.
I hope that changes… but the recruiting services were wrong. Georgia’s players… simply aren’t what they once were.

Here is the way I see it. Bobo needs to go back to the booth. The problem we have is I believe the coach is getting upset when the plays he calls are not working and he ends up not coaching up his quarterback and criticizing him. The way I see it, Richt should strip Bobo of all playcalling duties. Go back to calling the plays, and let Bobo have some of the pressure of calling the plays as well as coaching the guy running the plays lessoned. It would help Bobo to be able to see the field. Be Richt’s eyes in the booth. Bobo sees the field better from up there. Then let Richt call the plays like he did before when we had a young freshman quarterback. Let Richt be the calming influence on Murray that he was on Greene. Then we will see our offense take off.
Here is what got me to thinking about this. Bobo threw Murray under the bus. I wonder if Murray really trusts him now. Instead of Bobo blaming Murray, how about something like this. “We may have had some balls held in the backfield a little too long. I am going to go back and look at the tape. If we did, then I need to do a better job of coaching the kid up and boosting his confidence to make that quick read. I need to do a better job of getting the kid to trust his arm more. He is really getting better, and I see him developing every day more and more. He’s going to be special.”

Maybe Richt should explain to we fans what UGA football is all about. It sounds like as long as games are close and players get a little better each game that everything is peachy ? I’ve got a newsflash for Richt. Fans want victories bottomline. I could care less if Murray played a little better than last week. Wins and losses are permanent records not forgotten and the barometer of success or failure. 1-2 = failure.

Richt is fantastic, Bobo is good, Grantham needs more time to solidify the defense, Murray will be better each week…that being said..my suggestion is to do more option plays to react to the OL deficiencies. I also suggest contacting Mike Shanahan w/the Washington Redskins and adapt some of his zone blocking schemes for the running game. Look at what he did with TD and several backs after him. All the team needs is for Murray a little more time to mature & get experience, more time for the D to learn the new 3-4 defensive scheme, some option plays mixed in to keep the opposing team D’s off balance, & some zone blocking to get the ground game humming along. The team will be fine, everyone just relax. Richt is one of the best coaces in the Nation and at this point, we cannot find a better coach to replace him, so just support and relax Bulldog nation.

Here’s my love letter to Jeff Shultz today and it apples to you and this article too:
I love the way the media now tries to create controversy and “stories” so that they can attract readers. Actually I hate it.
We lost a couple of games to 2 good SEC teams. We are not at the top of the heap. BFD.
In every game someone has to win and someone has to lose. Some teams just have better teams some years than others. That is reality.
I have a lot of confidence in CMR. He has won 90 games in 9 years and will probably win 100 games in 10 years. He runs a stable ship.
I hate the media for trying to hold a football coach responsible for their players’ mistakes off the field when the coach has had them for 2 or 3 years and their parents had them for 18 or 19 years.Hold the parents accountable or would that not be politically correct for you.
Its always the teacher or coach. It never is the kid or his parents. The crap gets old.
Vince Dooley won 201 games in 25 years and for you non math majors that averages out to approx 8 wins a year – and colleges started playing 11 games during the regular season and a bowl game in 1971 which was 8 years into Coach Dooley’s 25 year career. Based on that, he would be run out of town by today’s unreasonable media jerks and jerks that call themselves fans.
Real fans stick by their team and a good coach through thick and thin. But today’s media writers and younger fans do not have the class of those 25 years ago. I mean lets face it Jeff, you are no Jesse Outlar.
So Jeff, quit pandering to the negative. There are plenty of wonderful things to write about the Bulldogs including graduation rate compared to the rest of BCS schools, GPA’s, the success that former players find as a result of their experience at UGA and oh yeah the 90 victories the football team has over the past 9 years which puts them towards the top of the list as one of the most successful BCS programs in the country.
And Jeff -by the way – go soak your head and shut your trap while you are doing it.

PMC , you’re right. The problem I see is that UGA is getting most of the players they are recruiting, so what does that tell you?? Are they recruiting the wrong type guys?? I know that Grantham likes the bigger, taller NFL type guys (like Saban recruits) which you need to play man coverage, which I believe is one reason it will be 2 yrs before our D is up to par. The offense, however, is a different story. I know Murray is a ball-player, but he’s short for a QB. Both teams we got beat by this yr have tall QB’s that can throw downhill. Why the heck is Richt & Bobo not recruiting these guys? Our offense is set up to pass. We also have small receivers — Green is tall but skinny.

Lunch is over for you Eastern Time Zoners Mary. I’m still enjoying mine….
No one single thing is going to fix this mess. Anyone ever been part of an organized problem solving exercise. You start by making a huge list of any problems you can think of. The next step is to group any similar problems into one like problem. Then you prioritize the list of problems and come up with the top 4 or 5. Then brainstorm solutions to these. What usually happens within an organization is you come up with a “Root Cause Analysis” for the problems. Kind of like peeling an onion, you keep peeling layers back until you get to the core of the problem. Anyone want to guess what the root cause of our problems are?
The root cause of the problems of the UGA football program, IMO is we don’t have a business plan, blueprint, foundational structure we follow. The only other guess without actually going through the exercise would be that we have one but CMR isn’t following it. Every area of the program is important. As I read the blogs there are so many good points made by everyone as to areas we could improve upon. There are so many responsibilities that it’s no wonder that one single person, CMR could be overwhelmed. At this point he’s not an effective CEO.
Why can a guy like Saban, go to a program in shambles, not once but multiple times and build a successful program. Because he’s got a model, a blueprint, a plan. Failing to plan is planning to fail. Saban could come to UGA and do the same thing he’s done at LSU and Bama with three years, does anyone doubt this. Not saying I want Saban, just using him as an example. If we do end up making changes I hope we ask all the right questions before we take just a name, i.e. Muschamp, Smart, etc. The top names may not be the right choice.
If the University decides to stick with Richt they should send him to a CEO grooming program and hire a tutor to help him stay on track. Just my opinion. I’m out after lunch. Have a good day Dawgs.

All you haters need to tighten up…the dawgs has a lousy game in south carolina and still had a chance to win…we were one washaun ealey whiff (on the 3rd and 4 block that got murray sacked) away from converting a first down, running out the clock and possibly kicking a field goal to win the game. What do you think is going to happen when we get everyone back? Would washaun even be in the game to fumble on the goal line vs SC or pass protecting in such a crucial situations vs the hogs or would it have been caleb king? Another question to ponder: How many touchdowns is AJ Green good for in two games? I think at least 1, prob 2, and possibly 3…not to mention a boat load of first downs. An extra TD or two wud of drastically changed the outcome of the games. We get some of these players back and D-coordinators have to think twice about how they scheme our offense…especially on 3rd and short! Any reasonable dawg fan expected us to go 1-1 vs SC/Hogs and although 0-2 is extremely disappointing we just had prob. the toughest two game stretch of anyone in the country…I think these boys are on the up & up (esp. w/ the schedule) and there are good times around the bend! Coach Richt TOTALLY MISSED the point when the caller asked “why should I continue to INVEST” into this program. Coach Richt went off on some tangent about SUPPORTING “the boys”. Not sure if Coach Richt intended to divert the subject, but his answer insulted our intelligence and totally missed the point:
In this tough economic times, many people ask “why should I invest”. It doesn’t mean we do not support “the boys” and UGA, it just means we want Coach Richt to view the dollars and “SENSE” of the matter that fans like you and I are pouring MILLIONS into this program for an ADMIRABLE EFFORT!
When the investors stop pouring in the money, then we may get a response that does not insult the intelligence of investors like you and I!!

I love it. Our defense is actually giving up two touchdowns less a game and people think we are immediately going to resemble alabama’s defense. Dawg fans are delusional sometimes. You need the right personnel to run the 3-4, it event took Saban a few years to get everything up and running to where it is now.
Some of you show your complete ignorance when you compare last years defense to this years. We gave up 37 and 41 pts to South Carolina and Arkansas, compared to 17 and 31 to improved offenses by both South Carolina and Arkansas. Our defense has only played this style for 3 games and have already shown a big improvement over last year by 15pts a game. If you thought they were going to be pitching shutouts every game, you need to learn a lot more about football before you criticize.

It is obviously pointless to argue on this thing. We are all over-exaggerating the dire straits we are in. If we get Green back and Caleb back and Chapas back and Josh Davis back in the lineup, we can be very dangerous down the stretch. That’s right fans. We had four offensive starters(3 1/2 if you count King) out for the Arkansas game. All or most of those guys will be ready to go after the Miss. St. game and just in time so that they can get a game under their belt against Colorado and be ready when the Vols come into town. I really believe we will see a different team over the last 9 or so games the rest of the year. The defense will get more acclamated to the 3-4 and Murray will become more and more comfortable in the pocket. Richt was right, in the past we had one or two plays go our way and lead us to such great hights. This year it has been two plays that have caused the two game losing streak. Ealey’s fumble in the redzone when we were down 8 in the USC game and the blown coverage in the final drive against Arkansas. We are BullDawgs, not Florida “Gay-tours” we are better then this. Lets rally around the team and cheer loud as hell at the next home game.

Paul, Lattimore ran thru your defense like it was not there, and Mallett passed for almost 400 yards to mostly WIDE OPEN receivers. It does not matter if you give up 41 or 31 points, you are not going to win in the SEC, ACC, Pac 10, Big 10 or any other conference when your defense plays so poorly. Your new DC is not getting the job done. His game plan for stopping Mallett was horrible, and I do not believe Bama or Florida coul;d have shut him down with that game plan.

Amen brother on the talent and coaching. If Paul Johnson had the offensive talent that CMR had to work with, GT would score 40+ every game, and with all the quality defensive talent, GT would be one of the best defensive teams in the country. CMR does less with the most talent, while CPJ is just the opposite… he does more with less.

UGA is a work in progress on defense but I think we’re ahead of last year thanks to the new coaches on board.
Offense has obvioulsy digressed recently but that’s going to happen when you lose a Stafford, Moreno, and for all intents and purposes a Green. Let’s face it…Caleb King and Marlon Brown have been BUSTS thus far. They were SO hyped coming out of high school and have produced mediocre at best results. If those two had been as good as advertsised then we may not be 0-2 in the SEC already.
Play calling is below average in terms of the SEC…that is evident. Nobody is ever after our assistent coaches anymore like they used to be when we were good. Who would want Martinez or Bobo other than a loyal CMR.
Call it like it is…rebuilding year for the Dawgs. Somehow we’ll beat Florida cause for the first time in a long time it’s won’t carry any significant meaning to our Bowl hopes.

I’m in the same place as Dawgs of War. I just can’t justify spending the kind of money the Athletic Program asks for the quality of program they put on the field. If they’re going to exhort us with cumulative donation, annual donation, ticket prices, $5 BBQ sandwiches and $4 Cokes, then they better deliver and they better be open to criticism. The overall trend in the program is down. It’s not unAmerican or “jumping off the bandwagon” to question what they are doing, especially when those in charge make statements that imply they don’t really care about winning (i.e., “it’s not like we got shellacked and run off the field”).

Talk about true UGA fans. True UGA fans are tired of the 10-2 or 9-3 records. Like i said earlier, if UGA is not playing for an SEC title or NCG, the season is a failure. Thats how a TRUE COLLEGE FOOTBALL FAN thinks and expects from their schools. But not UGA fans, we go 10-2 and say “at least we won 10 games”! Pathetic, looser mentality.

Some of you on this blog are so pathetic – you obviously have never even been to a game, supported the program or ever attended the University of Georgia – you think that because you live in the state that qualifies you to be a big mouthed critic of something you really have no connection with. Real fans are with the team at all times through thick and thin. Some of the comments on here are so far out of touch with reality that they should be automatically transferred to the alternate universe of bizzaro superman. UGA has great coaches – a new and developing defense which has already shown tenacity and improvement over last year – last year Arkie put almost 50 on Willie’s defense. This year with almost their entire offense back and one of the premiere QB’s in the country we cut that output almost in half if you discard the last score – the D is coming on strong. The offense – I agree that Bobo is inconsistent – but he is not ALWAYS terrible. I do think he is a better QB coach than an OC. He may be a coach that is reconsidered at the end of the year. We had an average year last year – not something we are accustomed to. This year is a year where there are many new dynamics in action. You were crazy if you thought we were just going to sweep the SEC with a newbie QB. I will agree with one comment – there is no reason why Murray should not have gotten playing time last year. I also cannot understand how that happens in a program like Georgia’s. As to all this crap about we haven’t beat Florida in so many years – WHO THE HE** HAS????? Go ahead -write me a list! And as for you Tech fans – HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Why do you even bother to show your faces on our blog. We have been close the past two weeks – I think once we turn the corner and get that next win and get some key players back this team will start to roll. I say, GO DAWGS!

5-4 Tenn
6-3 Auburn
8-1 (Georgia Tech)
The next coach you Georgia fans want better having a nice winning record against those schools. You fans are so quickly to forget the wins we have! The Georgia fans who praise Paul Johnson are idiots, and aren’t fans at all. In fact, they have to be Georgia Tech dumbasses in disguise on here. Paul Johnson is 1-1 against Georgia. It took Paul Johnson his 2nd season to lose to Georgia. How many seasons did Mark Richt go before losing to GT? I want my “DIE HARD GEORGIA FANS WHO ARE BETTER THAN OTHER GEORGIA FANS” to answer that one for me. You fans can suck it. “J” your research is weak…I think what alot of UGA fans are looking at is “HOW” did Meyer, Saban, Miles and now Spurrier get where they are and how did we get where we are?
We have as good or BETTER resources than any football team in the nation…NO?
So what’s the problem?
BTW….5-4 against Tenn is nothing and I mean nothing to brag about.
AND really, since when did GT actually count? I don’t see a useful benefit to play GT other than a good paycheck. GT not in the SEC, so beating them doesn’t help and loosing actually hurts. Beating GT all the time hasn’t exactly been a recruitment plus has it…if so, where are the dividends?

As a long time die hard UGA fan tonight’s loss was hard & painful! I was upset mad & disappointed all in one but I continue to support UGA with a new QB & installing a new 3-4 defense & it will take time for TG to recruit the kind of players needed for this defense unfortuantely this all takes time. But with the right players & once they learn it it will be worth it hopefully. I never thought we lose to MS but they were ready to fight & win the players have got to pull & work together.
MR I am not going to try to tell you how to do your job but we have some serious problems here ! No matter now hard we try lately we just cannot win! Have Eric Zeier come & talk to the players he can give some valuable advice & insight about playing on a struggling team he lived through it & did & still managed to win some fine games with the help of his teammates.SC Arkansas are certaintly better teams but even Vandy won a conference game
we are at the bottom I supported Goff & I hoped & prayed we would never be like that again it almost brought me to tears! I hope we can all come together & pull it out & win some games. What happened to the great running backs we used to get we were known for having great running backs let them look at film or bring in Herschel or Knowshon to talk to them & boost them up I also wonder if the refs have a grudge aganist us at times! I will as always root for & support the dogs through this trying season I think things will turn around I just don’t have much patience & I don’t like to wait.UGA is a fine & proud program our players are & should be proud to play at UGA band together players & coaches & players please stay out of trouble we don’t need any more of that!
Hope next week for a win I am behind you all the way! But when the fans are saying they can figure out Bobo’s plays on t.v. that is not a good thing & it is a time for a change put him back in the booth no more play calling! I hate to say it but I wish Eric Zeier would be offered a asst coaching job the QB’s I think he would be a great one he was such a good QB & played for a team that did not have big win loss records. AS ALWAYS GO DAWGS SIC EM WOOF WOOF GATA!! Hang tight & keep the faith everyone I am doing my best to do this also!
