ATHENS – Georgia might be without cornerback and punt returner Branden Smith for Saturday’s game against Arkansas.
Smith did not practice Wednesday because of what coach Mark Richt called “concussion-like symptoms.”
“He actually got knocked out of bounds at yesterday’s practice and had a contact-related headache,” Richt said Wednesday night. “I’m not even sure on his status [for Saturday], to be honest with you.”
If Smith doesn’t play, Carlton Thomas and Logan Gray “would be the top two candidates” to return punts, Richt said. Sanders Commings and Jordan Love would get more work at corner, Richt said. Smith also would be missed on offense, where he tends to be used for a few plays per game.
Other injury updates: Fullback Shaun Chapas, who sprained an ankle against South Carolina, did not practice Wednesday. He was in a walking boot and remains questionable at best for Saturday. . . . Nose Justin Anderson is doubtful for the game, Richt said, because of “a turf toe issue that was reaggravated.”

I love Georgia, no more excuses its just time for a change. We are losing the recruiting battle in our state. Our offensive coordinator and some other position coaches are not even in the same class with other top programs. I believe there is still a lot of pride at UGA and we must maintain that…GOD BLESS

DOES UGA HAVE A STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING COACH? WHY DO WE HAVE SO MANY MORE INJURIES THAN THE TEAMS WE PLAY? WHY ARE OUR 325 POUND OFFENSIVE AND DEFENSIVE LINEMEN BEING PUSHED AROUND ALL OVER THE FIELD? DO YOU SEE A COMMON DENOMINATOR HERE? SURELY NOT ALL THESE GUYS ARE WIMPS! OH YEA, ANOTHER LONG-TIME BUDDY FROM FL STATE IN CHARGE OF STRENGTH AND TOUGHNESS. WHEN WILL IT END?
