Grantham returns Spurrier’s barb
ATHENS — Todd Grantham took note of Saturday’s barb from Steve Spurrier –- and returned the volley Tuesday night with a reference to Spurrier’s lack of success in the NFL.
Spurrier, the South Carolina coach, poked at Grantham, the Georgia defensive coordinator and long-time NFL assistant, after Gamecocks running back Marcus Lattimore had 182 yards rushing against the Bulldogs by saying: “That little inside zone play, the NFL doesn’t run that play. That’s a new scheme, I guess.”
Grantham was asked after Georgia’s practice Tuesday if he saw Spurrier’s comment.
“Yeah, that was texted to me,” Grantham replied with a grin. “I appreciate his assistance, you know. But we actually knew what plays they were running. And they actually run that play in pro ball, and our offense actually runs that play, too. So we’re kind of on top of our game.
“It was kind of an out-of-left-field comment,” Grantham added. “I kind of took it more as a shot at the NFL. I really wasn’t sure if it was because of his lack of success there or what. So I kind of took it more like that than anything.”
Spurrier was 12-20 in two seasons as coach of the NFL’s Washington Redskins.
Grantham coached in the NFL for 11 seasons before being hired as Georgia’s defensive coordinator this year.
South Carolina beat Georgia 17-6 on Saturday.

Grantham’s going to remember that trashing by spurrier next year. Look for an angry dawg D to shut down USC in athens with extra “effort.”

After 1 big game, Grantham’s mighty 3-4 D has been a big bust. He’s getting paid $400,000 to coach a lot better than that. He better get it together quick against ark, or Ga fans will run him out of town quicker than martinez, who couldn’t coach a lick.

1. georgia gave it all they had last Saturday against USC and could not cut the mustard so you go ahead and think ole Grantham can get extra “effort” against USC next year in Athens…if you really think that…what does that say about their “effort” this year?? You are a complete Bozo just like lard ass Grantham….
2. Grantham is getting paid $750,000.00 per year as the georgia DC…now that is funny right there…and yeah, USC hopes ole lard ass is around next year to coach that defense against USC in athens….Oh yeah, we GAMEC0CKS hope you keep Grantham and BooBoo and Richt a long time. In case you haven’t noticed, all your SEC brothers want those guys to stay at georgia too….and we can’t help but laugh.

Grantham has had 2 games to implement his 3-4 defense.
Carolina scored all of three points in the second half.
I think he will be just fine.
South Carolina beats UGA twice in a decade and you cant shut em up. Unbelievable.

Plus South Carolina always collapses in the second half.
They have enough depth to play people tough early but after that the grind of the SEC wears on them and they go in the tank. Watch and see.

After the first half, I didn’t see Lattimore score another touchdown. We have work to do, but the adjustment for the second half paid off. SC has lost 7 out of the last 10 games against us, i kinda like those stats. And for all those people kicking our new DC, can’t wait till we play you. Lattimore should be given all the credit not Spurrier.

If Grantham knew about it and still couldn’t stop it, that kinda makes him look even more stupid than it did to begin with.
Todd should shut his mouth and work on his players…. Grantham was never known as the sharpest tack in the box and he is 0-2 in the SEC….. Willie Martinez NEVER started out that bad…

Think about it…. I agree with you…. we don’t need to stoop to Spurrier’s level.
Grantham needs to spend more time on coaching and lay off the freaking donuts…. man – has blown up like a balloon since coming to Athens.
Grantham needs to see that Lattimore ran all over our Dawgs defense, but this week the lowly Furman defense held Lattimore to under a hundred.
