Georgia-Idaho State game to be on Channel 2 WSB-TV

(Updated Nov. 5)

Here’s a reminder about Saturday’s game:

Georgia’s game against Idaho State -– the one UGA game this season that isn’t part of the SEC television contracts — will be televised on Channel 2 WSB-TV.

Kickoff will be 12:30 p.m. in Sanford Stadium.

The SEC television contracts with CBS and ESPN allow each school to produce one game per season outside those contracts. Typically that one game is shown on pay-per-view, but Georgia opted to put this year’s on free TV, athletic director Greg McGarity said.

“This free-of-charge broadcast is a way to give back to our fans throughout the state,” McGarity said in September. “We believe making the game available on WSB-TV and its coverage area is a way to show our appreciation to Bulldogs around our state.”

The game will be available in the 53-county Atlanta TV market, as well as on cable systems in Albany, Macon, Savannah, Columbus, Chattanooga, Greenville and Tallahassee, according to UGA. The telecast also will be available on both DirecTV and DISH to subscribers who receive Channel 2 WSB-TV.

UPDATE:  Bob Neal will call the play-by-play on the telecast, with analysis from Darryl Jones and sideline reporting from Zach Klein.

Bob,
I hope it will be on espn3 as I don’t mind watching it online, but if it is not a part of the ESPN contract at all then it sounds like they may not carry it. I guess I’ll have to cross this bridge when I get there.

Oh, and your schedule is the biggest joke around. In addition to sorry Kansas, you also scheduled such juggernauts as SC State and MTSU. That’s not even including the joke of a conference that you play in that gets destroyed by every decent out of conference team they play.

Come to think of it, MTSU may be a L for you given the fact you are worse then North Dakota.

What we gonnado is this…

snap the ball to Neesbit. Then ever-body swarm in and create a inpenetratable circle around said Neesbit. Then that dagggum Neesbit will hand the ball off to one very lucky player. Then we BREAK open the circle around Neesbit, and nobody will know who has the ball Neesbit gave em’. Then chances are, the lucky player with Neesbit’s ball will run daggum scott-free to the touchdown zone.

Come play for Me, Paul Johnson, and run the unstaoppable triple option.

Sidewalk 74, all of Georgia’s games are on tv this year. Can you say the same thing about GT? Go back and actually read the article. The game will be on WSB instead of pay-per-view. Sorry if the article used words with too many syllables for you.

Keep saying it, “Wait until next year.” You are going nowhere until you get rid of Richt. Look at the QB roster in 2010, 4 FRESHMEN, no Soph, jr or sr. So you redshirt 1 or 2, then what, how many recruits do you think you will get over the next few years. You will not when a NC with Richt, not disciplined enough as a coach, may win the SEC once a decade. All you will be doing is hiding behind the SEC SKIRT like VANDY! Unfortunately the SEC Skirt isn’t as pretty as in the past.

You Dawg fans who keep repeating “30-24″ like a mantra enjoy yourselves all you want. The thing is… Tech alumni and fans have lives that don’t depend entirely on what a bunch of kids does on Saturday afternoons. College sports are fun to follow, but the biggest reason for going to college is to get an education.

UGA fans don’t seem to care about anything but football, and they don’t care if their players are enrolled in silly majors that no parents who are paying the bills would send their kids to UGA for. The very few football and basketball players who graduate have no job opportunities and end up unemployed or working in menial jobs that hardly require a college degree.

Georgia Tech is a real school with serious academic standards, and that includes scholarshipped athletes. UGA has a long history of being a party school, where parents send their kids for an easy degree, even if the degree itself is practically worthless.

Jan Kemp exposed the crap going on at UGA with athletes being enrolled in courses a ten-year-old kid could pass. That was almost three decades ago, and nothing has changed. If anything, the abuses are more blatant today. Way too many illiterate morons are being recruited, and the very high arrest rate shows clearly that Richt does not care if his players have any morals or self-discipline.

The bottom line is that most Tech fans have very good jobs and productive lives that don’t depend on Tech’s football record for their happiness in life. It would be great to beat UGA more often, but when you put scholar-athletes up against thug-athletes, it’s usually no contest.

It’s pretty pathetic to see UGA fans who typically have never been within miles of a college classroom and who live or die with UGA’s weekly results on the football field.

So keep on posting your “30-24″ all you want, especially since you’re home with plenty of time on your hands. I wish you well, maybe you’ll get lucky and get your old job back at the sawmill before your unemployment checks stop coming.

Or maybe you could sell your red panties collection on eBay.

Hiding behind the SEC skirt? When will you get it that you are an avg team. The SEC plays the weakest OOC games, then say “Oh, we have the toughest conference” You never know because you don’t play anybody Out Of Conference. You wait until teams haven’t played for 70 days in Jan then decide that you are better. Have the SEC strengthen their OOC then talk. Search the internet, over the last decade SEC has the weakest OOC of MAJOR confs.

Lattimore is significantly better than he was when I watched him play in H.S. He will put up huge yards on several teams this season (like he did on us).

I’m not ready to bury this team just yet. S.C looks like a tough out. We handcuffed our QB and don’t have A.J. Things will get better.

Washaun holds on to the pigskin, we have a whole different story…..

The contract for the Georgia-Colorado home and home series were signed before the 2005 season. Colorado won the Big XII north in 2005. Not Georgia’s fault that this game looks less attractive now than when the contract was signed.

The economic realities of big time college football are that the big programs need seven home games to make the budget work. That almost always means playing at least two games against teams that won’t demand a home and home. Georgia and Florida split the revenue for the neutral site game so Georgia played six home games in 2009 and seven this year.

Georgia plays the annual rivalry game with GT and has played recent home and home series with Arizona State, Oklahoma State, and Colorado. Georgia has an upcoming home and home with Louisville – again that contract was signed in 2006 when Louisville won the Big East. In 2013 and 2014, Georgia plays renews the Clemson rivalry. Throw in annual conference games with Florida, Tennessee, and Auburn and it really isn’t fair to criticize Georgia’s schedule.

These blogs read like one guy or girl using different user names to argue with him or herself. It could just be a AJC staffer. The Washington Post has shown that many of the bloggers on its political sites are paid bloggers using the free forum to get their message out — supposedly as concerned citizens.

The real truth

My Brother in Law works for the financial office and the truth here is that the Dawgs could not garner enough interest in this game outside the state of Georgia to make any money.

The Dawgs do better just running to a local market and getting revenue from advertisements.

Unfortunately the truth hurts here…. no one outside of the state of Georgia cares to watch UGA, that is why this decision was made.

This, giving back to the fans is B.S….. it was purely the lesser of two bad outcomes.
