Gamecocks ‘really controlled line of scrimmage’, Spurrier says; changes ahead for Dogs?

Georgia needs to play more — and bigger — people on the defensive line. And it needs to get better play from a couple of positions on the offensive line “or make some changes there.”

Those were Mark Richt’s answers Sunday when asked about an observation from South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier that the Gamecocks “really controlled the line of scrimmage” against the Dogs on Saturday.

“I don’t know if it was total domination. It was actually a pretty close game to the very end,” Richt said on a conference call. “But I think we’ve got to learn our personnel a little bit better.”

On the defensive line, he said, “we’ve probably got to get our bigger men in there, ‘Bean’ [Justin Anderson] and [Kwame] Geathers. We’ve got to find a way to get them in the game more, got to find the right combination in some of our looks. That’ll help us.”

Neither Anderson nor Geathers played against South Carolina, according to Georgia’s participation chart. Richt said the Dogs also need to get Abry Jones more playing time on the D-line.

South Carolina freshman running back Marcus Lattimore, who had 182 yards rushing on 37 carries, said afterward that the Gamecocks “knew coming into the game … we could gash them up the middle.” He said South Carolina center T.J. Johnson “did a great job of moving their nose guard,” DeAngelo Tyson.

The 6-4, 290-pound Tyson has started the Bulldogs’ first two games at nose but also can play end (and prefers it) if the 6-5, 326-pound Anderson and the 6-6, 325-pound Geathers get playing time at nose.

On the offensive line, Richt said the tackles (Clint Boling and Josh Davis) and the center (Ben Jones) “played pretty good” Saturday. “Our guards struggled more than anybody on offense,” Richt said. “We’ve got to either get better or make some changes there.”

Cordy Glenn and Chris Davis are the starting guards.

Alabama starts 9 new players and basically shuts out Penn State. Chizik turns Auburn around in his first year with much less talent than Georgia. Trust me….Kentucky is better than the dawgs.
No excuse for the lackluster showing on Saturday…really!! In corporate America a pink slip would be coming!
The Boise State coach is terrific…just watch them play.
We all want CMR to succeed…it just is not working and perhaps a change is needed at the top if this turns out to be an average season again. We have way too much talent for this!!!!!

The difference between CTG and CWM is that CWM’s d would have imploded and UGA would have ended up giving up 30+ points. CTG made the adjustments necessary to only give up 3 pts in the last 30 minutes. It hurts to lose but I think we will only get better.

Same line every year when we get whipped. Hey Coach, how many millions does it take to get the right personnel in there in the first place? I’m not worried about the Defense personally. I mean it wasn’t junkyard dawgs, but the chickens were on adrenaline and ran up and down the field, and we were still able to hold them to two touchdowns. The Defense needs tweaking, not overhauling. I’m sure CTG is up to the task. The offense is another story. Year after year after year after year, our offense looks anemic at the onset of the season. It’s really quite simple. The only common denominator here is CMR. It’s been 10 years and our offense still cannot play 4 quarters of competitive SEC football. Two and a half classes have come and gone. It’s not the athletes folks. Same story every year regardless of the players. And the excuses…year after year. It’s a hard pill to swallow, but it’s looking like the athletes aren’t the only personnel changes the Dawgs need.

We have to learn to make adjustments during the game, not after. I felt like we were in position to make plays on defense we just didn’t tackle. To many guys tried for the “big hit” and didn’t wrap up the ball carrier.

1. We knew the d-line was the weakest part of the equation.

2. So did Spurrier. And give Spurrier an extra two days of prep, and he’ll score on the opening drive almost every time. That and a fumble decided the game.

3. Lattimore is a legit. Thank God he didn’t go to Auburn, where he ultimately would be a bigger problem for UGA/SEC. Later this year, Dawg D performance will look much better in comparison to how others handle USC.

First off – You guys needs to shut the hell up with the tackling comments about that being the worst tackling you have ever seen. You clearly have not paid attention in the past. That game was fine on defense. They gave up a lot of yards to Lattimore and yet we could have still won.

The issue was the lack of performance and consistency on our part in our running game. The defense made adjustments and gave the offense plenty of opportunities. They did not capitalize.

Murray played great. The OL pass blocked great. The receivers looked good. The problem was run blocking and the play calling was not good at all in that area.

For all the people who were bitching last year about the defense. this defense was fine. We are still learning and getting that worked out. It was not like this was a game we were beat by a 3rd tier team.

The fair weathered fans should exit the UGA train and jump. The real fans are tired of your lonesome and over dramatization of how good or bad things are. Basically STFU!

I have been saying it for now 3 years. Everyone wanted to blame Willie and the defense. Granted I did think a change was needed. Since 2005 our offense has been stale. Its not the defense. Yes we need to make adjustments but we did. after the opening drive we held them to 10 points. And our offense gave them the ball at mid field all game because THEY CANT MOVE IT.

BOBO CONTINUES TO HAVE BAD PLAY CALL. BLAME HIM. 3RD AND 2 AT MID FIELD AND WE RUN A ROLL OUT PASS TO THE OPPOSITE SIDE.

Grantham did what he was suppose to and adjusted. Sure we need to work on stuff but he held them. We just have to get off the field on 3rd downs better.

Coach Richt, how bout charting your own tendancies? If UGA throws an incompleation on first down, we run it on second and ten 90% of the time. We ran the ball on second and long every time against USC except for one. Including the fumble on the three yard line. I understand you want to avoid and third and long by trying to gain five yards on the ground on second down. But, we don’t, I don’t see a big difference third and 8 vs. third and ten. Throw on second and ten at least 50% of the time. Everybody in the stadium knows we’re gonna run on second and long.

Kiffin said it best, “Georgia is the easiest team on our schedule to prepare for. They are doing the same stuff they’ve done for 10 years . . .”

You would think Richt would have read this and realized he needed new blood at OC, especially when a mediocre UT backed up Kiffin’s mouth by holding Bobo’s offense to 3 points last year.

I think Grantham was telling Richt on the sideline, after yet another of five-straight 3-and-outs, ” hey coach, could you help Bobo get a couple of first downs?”

Five straight 3-and-outs. Bobo was coaching like he had a three TD lead.

Again, McGarity is not used to seeing crap like this at UF. He’s used to seeing OCs that actually get head coaching job offers. He’ll take care of this, we just have to wait til season’s end . . .

Running inside gave us nothing and we did it over and over. We are so predictable and vanilla you want to puke. Any high school DC could game plan for us.
We have some speed and play makers, but they get one, two touch’s a game. Anybody ever count how many times Percy Harvin touched the ball for Meyer ? Brandon Smith out to get 10 or 12 touchs a game in space and put somebody on their heels. We play not to lose, bottom line. Murray is a winner. Turn him loose.

As for the game this Saturday, it’s the ‘Hogs to lose, not the ‘Dogs to win. Hate to say it, but the love affair between CMR and the Bulldog faithful is beginning to wane. I for one have lost all confidence in him. Not a slam on him personally, but CMR looks lost and disengaged on during the game. Hope I am wrong. With a loss Saturday, UGA is officially working on 2011, which begs the question of where does AJ Green fit into the plans? Richt has always been somehwhat confused. He knows that he has built a fine team and that we have speed and such. The problem is that he does have a good ACC type of team …………..but UGA plays in the big boy SEC league and that is why we play the mid level schools closer and lose. KY and SC have now surpassed UGA as the best of the rest in the SEC.

Arkansas beats up on UGA at home and the boo birds will fly out and it will turn very, very, very ugly for the entire team and staff. UGA alumni ( i r 1 ) have had enough of the punk assed attitudes on our team over the last few UNSUCCESSFUL YEARS. See W. Ealey and AJ Green and few others.

There is a new AD in town and he grew up in Athens and he is a winner at the highest level having played UGA tennis ( yes, I said tennis ) and when he played for UGA, they were world beaters under Dan Mcgill and McGarity knows what he has to do to restore the good years in football.

CMR and Bobo are feeling the heat, and that urgency will transfer to the players. The players will be eager to redeem themselves in front of a home crowd. CTG will simply kick @@@ as needed. CMR will have redeemed himself, but it will be short lived, and we will once again find ourselves amongst the mediocre. Watch the film…..USC gashed the vaunted 3-4 defense….not so much when we were in the 4-3. I think we need to fit the scheme to the players…..instead of trying to win with square pegs in round holes.

Rambo stuck out like a sore thumb on Saturday….even Boob Davey made several comments about his poor play and unwillingness to tackle anyone. He played more like Bacardi than Rambo.

Garcia even avoided the wrath of The Ol’ Ball Coach……that speaks volumes about how your defense played when Garcia plays well.

Now you see why successful coaches ( ie: The Old Masters of the game ) always preached running the football, playing sound defense and special teams – even Butler seemed average – as the recipe for winning football games. USC had twice as many plays on offense as did UGA..

My observations from Columbia.
That Lattimore kid is a stud. If he stays healthy – can give SC chances win more big games.
Due to lack of wrapping him up on first hit, gave him a bunch of yards. CTG needs to work our ‘D’ on that.
Our O-line pass blocking looked good. However the run blocking needs some more work.
And the most surprising aspect – I did not see any red panties tossed at us. I was expected some to collect.

Does anyone really think that McGarrity who learned what it takes to be at the top from Jeremy Foley that the solution to the problem is to fire assistants? That was how the Red Panties man operated, not McGarrity. Richt has been the head man for 10 years and the program is getting worse not better. His best year with his best talent since 2005 he finished 2nd IN THE SEC EAST!!! The humper nation just doesn’t get it but Greg “I learned at the feet of the Master” sure as hell does. I have a major problem with BOBOs play calling! Ticht has this I have to protect my Freshman QB attitude which ultumately makes your team concervative and does not give them a chance to win. It was obvious that Murray was more than capable of making plays with his arm and feet. This offense is boring predictable and teams know how dto stop it. If the offense live was playing the way everyone thoucght it woull play, this play calling could maybe work, but when the line is getting pushed around like ours, that system does not work. Also, what is this deal with the toss sweep? we ran that play on first done and lost 3 yards when our defense made a play to get the ball and we ended up punting on that drive. The offensive line is a failure, the offensive coordinator is a failure.

At this point in time, I’ll give the defense a pass. They improved in the second half and CTG hasn’t given us years of mediocrity like we’ve seen from Bozo, CWM, and for the most part from CMR. CTG also brings some much needed fire and accountability that is sorely lacking on this team. I was much encouraged by Chuck D’s report that CTG gave the defense a fiery halftime lecture.

As for AJ and Ealey, they should be suspended for the season. Making an example of them would send a message to others that want to drink, drive drunk, hit cars, sell jerseys, and do other stupid things in the off season.

I, like many others, have completely lost all confidence in CMR’s abilities to lead. This isn’t something that just popped up after the SC game. This has been building for the last 3 seasons. Realizing the in-game changes that should have been made after the game is inexcusable for an SEC program. Likewise, being unprepared during the first half of the three consecutive seasons says we don’t have quality at the top. Did Alabama look like they needed the first half a season to get on track the past three seasons? No, they whipped Clemson, VT, and PSU right out of the box. A soft-spoken CEO who wants to be your buddy is not going to cut it in today’s SEC. We need a hard-nosed SOB that demands discipline, respect, and accepts nothing less than 110% from every coach and player on every down.

Joe your wrong! I am not saying Fire Richt, but if you watched the first half of the Boise Virginia Tech game, They man handled V Tech on both sides of the ball and they seem to run an offense that is not as predictable as Georgia’s. This pro style offense is not winning games anymore and the best players are going to spread type offenses. I hate to say this because I am a Fan of Georgia, but we are so far beind Alabama, Florida, and even S Carolina now because they are finally getting the recruits we used to get. lattimore is a STUD! Their receivers are all better than any of ours except AJ. Their defense is quicker and their line is bigger. Its hard to find any hope for the future of Georgia’s program!

1) Play calling- please tell me why when you are passing almost at will on them, you suddenly decided you have to run the Wild Dawg- and get offside penalties and stopped for no gain…twice? :You should stay with something that works until they can stop it. Need an example Bobo? See Carolina’s running against us. They ran it and ran it and ran it, we could not stop it, and the won the game. Bobo needs to improve IMO..or he needs to go.
2) our offense line is suppose to be the strength of this team. Appears that is not the case. They were man handled.
3) tackling- they should have the defense carry tackling dummies to class.

If Ealey doesn’t fumble then the game gets really close. SC was shut down in the second half. Plus Murray was handcuffed and still turned fine numbers. He has a bit of the Tarkenton in him perhaps. He’s smart and mobile with a good arm. The game was a lot closer than is being admitted in this space. Low on penalties. SC can beat Florida this year, but so can UGA with or without Green. It is encouraging to see Murray throwing so well without Green in the game and being double-covered.

September 13th, 2010

It’s kind of sad to see all the Dawg fans getting so excited this year (just like the year before, the year before that, etc.). How long is it going to take for UGA fans to realize that UGA is simply no longer relevant in the SEC? In the national picture, UGA isn’t even a blip on the radar, and hasn’t been since the preseason #1 ranking two years ago.

Sit back and be grateful for the seven or eight wins you’ll get every year. Coaching genius Mark Richt may take you to 8-4 or even 9-3 occasionally, but Florida will still win the SEC, meaning no BCS bowls and no top 10 final ranking. Most years, UGA will be very lucky to finish in the top 25, and only after a big bowl win over a nobody opponent.

It’s a different world now, and Dawg fans need to adjust their expectations downward to reflect reality.

Unfortunately nothing is going to change until UGA changes its mediocre coaching. That’s where the difference is, and that’s why everyone outside Dawgtard Nation just laughs at Dawg fans getting so excited year after year about what a great recruiting class UGA gets. It doesn’t matter how many blue chip high school players go to UGA, they simply don’t get the coaching they would get at Florida or Alabama, to name two schools whose programs are far ahead of UGA. And that’s not going to change as long as Mark Richt is in Athens.

Get your heads out of the sand and face reality. And mediocrity and irrelevance.

I don’t think we are going to find out that South Carolina is a great football team. Lattimore is a good back, but they are not going to go to the SEC championship with Garcia at QB. The best you can say about him was he did not lose the game (though he did fumble), and in the past he has thrown bad interceptions. But Garcia missed half a dozen open receivers in the game. Shaw will probably be the best answer at QB long term but you aren’t going to win SEC with a freshman either. So Garcia remains the QB and Florida goes to another championship game. Congrats to USC for the win but Richt & Cos. inability to make the most of their talent is why this game is usually close and why sometimes we wind up on the losing end. Although Richt brought the program back his first 5 years, the last five have languished in mediocrity. His support among fans is dwindling as bad losses and his inability to control the players and the program becomes more apparent. If their is a problem with talent it is that our recruiting is off the mark. Caleb King and Logan Gray, both touted as big-time recruits, obviously did not havethe ability to complete at their positions in the SEC, so who recruited them and recommended we sign them. There are 8 or 10 other former “recruiting victories” that are serving out anonymous careers at UGA (Brandon Wood, Israel Troupe) If Georgia had signed Nick Saban3 years ago does anyone doubt UGA would be fielding a much stronger team today.

At the 18 minute mark of the game USC had the ball 12 minutes, UGA 6. Uga forced a punt and on the first play of the drive they chucked the ball deep down field. Two plays later and less than 2 minutes of game clock having gone off, USC had the ball back.

It doesn’t seem like a big deal at the time, but at the end of the game when it turned into a field possesion game and the D needing a stop, offensive series like this are important. The D was gas by the USC running game.

O well, just one game and plenty more ball to be played. Just wanted to add my two cents!

There was a handful of people that knew at least three years in advance that something was wrong with our defense and that Willie needed to go. There was also a great number of people that accused the former of being irrational or just plain stupid. You see what happened in the end but it took way too long. Looking back, in my opinion, we had an AD that had his mind on something other than UGA athletics and didn’t hold CMR accountable as to what was happening with the football program. That, my friend has now changed. Don’t think for one minute that McGarity isn’t tuned in to what’s going on. Neither is he afraid to make necessary changes. Hey hatfieldgeoff…for your info Caleb King was one of the highest ranked RB’s coming out of high school, pretty much all the major programs wanted him…However, he has been injured on and off alot since his senior year in high school and you are correct he has not performed as we thought…as far as Troupe and Wood, they also were highly recruited, especially Troupe…Gray was a highly recruited QB out of high school by many schools…My point to you is that recruiting is a hit and miss sometimes…The number of stars a player has means nothing, really, when they move into Div 1 Football..I don’t think our recruiting is off the mark, yes we miss some, so do all the teams….Its what you do with them when they get here…Is that Coaching? yes…Is that the attitude and the work ethic of the player? yes…I will agree that on the offensive side of the ball it does not seem we are getting the most out of the talent we think we have….Hopefully, that will be corrected soon…At the end of the season, if our offense continues to struggle i think we will see some changes there…

You’d think it was a blowout by some of the comments from Supprrier. Youd’ think they could have scored a passing td on Georgia since they ‘dominated’. You’d think an experienced QB like Garcia could have passed for more yards than a Freshman like Murray. You’d think the score wouldn’t have been 14-6 with 2 minutes to go if SC had dominated the game. Something doesn’t add up, I think it’s Spurrier’s recollection of the game.

Well,i expected the defense to be a work in progress. not matter how good of a coach you are it takes time. time to get your player that fit your scheme, time to learn and truly know what to do at all times, etc, etc. but they got to tackle better and some changes need to be made. Rambo needs to hit the bench, he was loafing and even got called out by the TV announcers… WTF is up with our o line and mike bobo, sorry, but maybe we need some changes there too. we have never had a dominate line, and his play calling was awful. 3-2 lets run it right up the gut with 11 defenders waiting….. yeah, i hate to say it but if this season tanks, and next season tanks, we will have a new coaching staff. sorry, and trust me it hurt for me to say these things but really, WTF.

UGA looked really good defensively except for RAMBO get him off the damn team. He would not dress out if left up to me. The announcers were even commiting on his slack ass. He use to be a stud and a head hunter. Guess that concussion rattled him some last year. BOBO we were calling your plays in the living room on saturday do you think SC didnt know what you were going to run? If you dont score how do you expect to win people? Why did we stop running Washum Ealey. I thought he looked good at times. The other running back is a joke.CMR has got to take control of the offense and use Murray, let him roll out and run or pass. The kid is a big play maker just let him do what he is good at doing. For anyone that thought this team was a 12-0 or a 11-1 team is either delusional, stupid or does not understand the game very well. We have a new DC installing a new scheme (I think it took Saban a year to get it right at Bama) and a new young QB. Can anyone name the last Freshman QB in the SEC to win a championship? I said this last year when everyone was clamoring to get rid of CWM. Live with the consequences. If we get rid of CMB now then you are talking about another two to three years of having 9-3 and 8-4 seasons.

As far as being predictable on offense, I can tell you 90% of the time in the game Saturday what SC was going to run before the play. I watched Bama and Penn state play and could tell you what they were going to run before the play. The offence we run is fine. It is a pro set offence and gets us some of the best QB’s in the country.

We lost Saturday because of the following reasons:

1: We sent three DL’s to the NFL and the ones playing this year are inexperienced and are not built for this system. They will get better but it will take some time.

2: Field position: We have a new QB, in his first SEC game on the road, without the best receiver in the SEC and had poor field position. Murray played well and feels good about his ability today. This is good for our future. Could he have done more? Maybe. Could he have thrown a couple of interception and be gun shy now if they would have “turned him loose” probably.

I see some very good things with this team in the future. It is time to step up and be a true DAW fan and support the team and yes the coaches. If you can not do that then it is time for you to find another team.

As much as Mike Bobo bleeds “red and black”, it is time for him to step aside as OC, and MR should call the plays. I just don’t think Mike Bobo is creative enough to hold the position of OC. Otherwise, UGA will be a second tier team in the SEC east. Too much talent and it is being wasted.

Great idea, let’s git rid of MR and get the best coach available. The two with the best winning percentage, Meyer & Saban, aren’t available, so let’s go for the third best. Oh, yeah, that’s Richt. Well then, let’s get someone whose won a national championship. Les Miles will probably be looking for a job soon. What a bunch of idiots you are. You would have fired Dooley (and Russell) in 1969 or 1970, right before the great team of 1971. Or, you would have fired Dooley in 1979 and we would never have won the national championship in ‘80. Leave Richt alone and he will get it done. “Way too much talent” at UGa? Git a grip. There’s not a true 3-4 nose guard on the roster, and none of the D tackles are SEC championship guality.

I keep hearing how good USC is this year and they may be but we REALLY helped them look good. Spurrier knew he could gash us up the middle. How could we not know that? Richt and Bobo said they wanted to play conservative with our freshman QB on the road, well it backfired. It was as if they had already conceded this game. Don’t do that coach, go into every game knowing we can win, pull out all the stops and let Murray do his thing. I have always wanted to see Richt succeed but with the money this program brings in every year and the talent that we get, the excuses have run out. Bobby Bowden said on TV Saturday that one of his and Florida States problems was their inability to properly evaluate incoming players or they did not do a good enough job at evaluating them. Are we doing the same thing? If Richt has another lackluster year and he is ousted, who would be the right choice to replace him?

Great speech TD, you did make a couple of good points. Murray is already a good one, well I couldn’t really find another good point. I will keep supporting my team, and calling it just like I see it. Without us vocals do you think CMR would have replaced the defensive staff? The defense didn’t play like champions Saturday but they kept us in the game, and they will get better I believe. The ineptness of the offense had nothing to do with Murray, it’s all coaching decisions “game planning” and yes the fumble hurt but those things happen.

When things get tight I wonder if CMR and or Bobo get the deer in the headlights feeling. Has anyone ever worked with, or around a person in a Leadership role and seen them panic when their leadership is needed most? Do our coaches think clearly and make good decisions at critical times?

And South Ga, USC was a better team. We were in Destin for the week so we ended up watching the game at a local sports bar. There was an elderly couple seated next to us that were Dawg Fans and the NW Florida Bulldog club was there. The old man and I were talking and as you said we joking called the offensive plays and we were right on mostly, especially on the three and outs. The most glaring being the deep balls on first down. That’s how a group of “highly paid” “SEC Coaches” protect their young QB. I don’t get it but I hope it gets better. My experience with this bunch, the offensive coaches, doesn’t, however give me a ton of confidence.

Richt isn’t go anywhere – the season isn’t over and truth be told its better to drop a game or so early rather than later in the season.

That being said: why, I wonder, does Richt have no concern making changes at line positions but not with coaches that aren’t producing? I’m not calling directly for Bobo to get fired but who here hasn’t watched our talent on offense squandered since he has taken over? We have consistently been inconsistent, underachieved, flat, etc…. Had this been a player he would have made a change, just look at Richt’s comments above.

Amazing after 10 years Coach Richt and his assistants still lack foresightedness and anticipation. Besides the Dawgs falling into mediocrity probably “The Most Telling” factor in evaluating CMR’s Leadership qualities is that none of his assistant coaches have been interviewed for any head coaching openings or high quality coordinator positions. As a CEO, you surround yourself with quality people, then develop them, then prepare to lose them because you have done them a tremendous service by allowing them to learn and grow. The problem I have with using the term “predicatble” as an explaination for losing is that playcalling is predictable for a reason. It’s predictable because everybody knows what we should have been calling. The game plan this past Saturday was predictable because for the entire summer, and all week , and an hour before the game, EVERYBODY said this is the game plan we would and should use. It didn’t work, now all of a sudden we have folks who spent the summer critical of the staff for not being committed to running the ball enough in the past, wondering why we didn’t air it out with our QB playing in his first real game. The entire summer we heard how coach is too “in love with his QB”, and will throw it too much despite having this o-line and Ealey.

It also helps if his WR get open, and then catch the ball. I wonder how much of the “reins” had to do with the receiving end of the equation. I really thought we were deeper in WR talent than this.

Good teams all over the country won saturday being very predicatble in thier playcalling, including SC. If we had stopped thier RB and forced them to go all unpredictable and creative, does anyone think that would have worked for SC? No, we wished they had. Predictablity is not the problem. We better figure out how to do the predictable.

I understand adjusting, but that makes the assumption that there were option, and I am not so sure there were that many. We actually had a 45% pass/55% run attempt, (which has been oft critisized in here as “pass happy”) What happens if Murray throws 2 picks because we just give up the run and start letting a freshman sling it around? History shows what happens.

The question in my mind is NOT why didn’t we do something different, something nobody wants, something proven in the past to not be a very good alternative……..the question in my mind is why CAN”T we do what we should be able to do?

I’m not upset with the OC because of what he called, I’m upset because it didn’t work and it should be.

Rogerdawgfan, Like that change for change sake worked well in Tennessee? BTW: Who are we going to get? What choice was CTG? 3rd, 4th (although I do think we got a great coach). Why is it that our first two choices did not want to come to UGA. Was it the money? I do not think so. Could it be because we have some DA fans that think we have to go 12-0 every season and if not they get on blogs like this one and call out the coaches, players and think the world is ending? Probably.

I have watched every Georgia game since 77 and can say without a doubt the CMR is the best coach UGA has had since I have been watching. Saban runs the most vanilla offense in the country, so does Ohio State, Texas, LSU and how is Florida’s offense looking this year with a new QB? One thing they all have in common is they play great defense. Was Saban and Muschamp at the top the first year they came to Bama? No, it took a year. Why was Florida great the first year Meyer got their? Could it be because he was smart enough to retain Charlie Strong? We have not been great since CBV left and it will take a year or two for this defense to become great again and then we can talk SEC championships and MNC’s but until then do a little research and stop being a DA knee jerk fan.

If Richt is to evolve into a true head coach he’s going to need the best coaches around him: Bobo isn’t it.

I understand he wants continuity and consistency. He may have gotten that from his long tenure with Bowden but let’s face it – FSU was winning games then.

This will likely be the last year for Bobo…and I can’t wait.

Big problem looming: If…..and I mean if we lose 2 -3 more games in the next 5-6 weeks, the Media, blogs, talk shows will heat up to make today look like nothing. That means recruiting becomes an issue from a stand point of commits or the ones we’re trying to get to commit. That being said, McGarity will HAVE to come out with a statement, and he will have to be careful. That statement sends out signals to everyone, including our opposition. Yes, I think it would/could get that bad.
Let’s hope we take of business and upset Arkansas this weekend.

The OC calls the plays CMR tells him to call. The game plan was conservative because we have a freshman quarterback and we thought we could run the ball. It didn’t work. Rambo lookes scared out there on D…. how many tackles did UGA miss on Saturday? CTG defense didn’t give up any big plays, but they could not get off the field. That first drive for USC of 16 or 17 plays/ 8 or 9 minutes really set the tone of the game. Murray looked ok, but Bobo was too conservative in the first half. It’s still early in the season, so hopefully the Dawgs will bounce back on Saturday against Arkanasas. GO DAWGS!!!!

There was ABSOLUTELY no FIRE on either side of the ball. Also, Rambo looks incredibly tentative & he needs to hit somebody – I think he’s afraid of getting another concussion. For that matter – they need to start having hitting in their practices cause WAY TOO much arm tackling.

If you dont think its your coach, why is it Saban wins a NC in just 2 years. Les Miles does it under 4. CMR is in his 10th and you pup fans want to talk as though you have the best football program in the country ? Other coaches in the SEC are doing more with less. I cannot stand Lane Kiffin, but he did keep his promise, “As long as I am at Tennessee, we will never lose to Georgia”.

And by the way, I think McGarity say’s Mark Richt is going nowhere. I don’t think he means it, but he’ll have to. One other observation from late Saturday. Late in the game, Murray could not find and open receiver. He had to throw one away, get sacked or scramble. That concerns me.

td, I think what we are seeing is frustration. I like CTG A LOT!!! He said early on that he does not have the perfect personnel in place to run his D but he no doubt will in the future. I think if CTG stays in place we will end up with a beast of a D. Now the frustration comes from Florida, LSU and Alabama winning NC’s with their Coach having much less time on the job. What would be the correct explanation for that? We have done a poor job in the past from recruiting in our own home state. That is only one reason.

Good morning Altamaha. I know you weren’t talking to me directly, and you have some good points. No question, we should be able to man up physically and run straight at them. I also question why we can’t be successful, at least some of the times. As far as statistics go, Murray accounted for 6 of those runs in your totals so I don’t really think we committed to the run, or made an honest effort to establish it. Another question I had as well as others is why we abondoned running outside the tackles, that’s what WAS working in the running game.

Predictability is throwing the long ball on first down, run up the middle on second down, throw on third down. I saw no creativity or imagination in the play calling Saturday. Where were the screen passes, did we throw in a fwd lateral, i.e. shuttle pass, draw plays, quick play action short throws over the middle to the tight ends. I could go on and on. Our frosh QB shouldn’t have been asked to throw the long ball so often. We (and yes it sounds like a monday morning qb) should have stayed with a ball control style offense, and punted when we should have. I made that point numerous times before we ever got to this game. Our offensive game plan had no sync. USC had something to do with that but our game plan, IMO, had as much to do with it.

That’s why I’m down on the coaches. This has been going on now for years Alt.

As I’ve stated before, someone tell me when was the last time UGA played a COMPLETE game against a QUALITY opponent? That is, offense, defense, and special teams. Not against the LA LA’s or Vandy’s of the world, but against someone actually good. Anyone? And don’t tell me Florida from three years ago because they weren’t that good and still put up 30. Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl? Please. The only games I can think of were the two SEC championship games we won. Folks that was FIVE years ago! We had our chance against BAMA several years back and Richt and the boys wet their pants on natl tv. I do feel better about the defense. CTG had them in the right spots, they just missed the tackles. And they only gave up 17 points and sacked the QB five times. With 10 starters back on offense, we should have easily won that game. I’m not convinced SC is all that this year — I still see them losing 3 games. For some reason CMR is not engaged. He’s too soft from a discipline standpoint and that’s were it all starts. His decision making, from calling plays to personnel to even clock management is suspect, and this strange loyalty he has to coordinators who can’t cut it will eventually be his downfall. As Lattimore ran all over us I could only think one thing — had he signed with UGA CMR would have red-shirted him. Got to give a fella a chance to learn “the system.” Well if this is what “the system” produces, then the system blows.

OK my rant is over for the day. I just can’t talk about this anymore…

Destin Dawg,

You hit the nail on the head. The main reason we lost this game is Mike Boo Boo and his ultra conservative play calling trying to “protect” his Freshman QB. How many games are we going to have to lose “protecting” our Freshman QB. I say let him play and play to win! It’s ironic to me that everyone was so worried about how our Freshman QB would handle his first career start in the SEC in a hostile environment and it was our coaches that we should have been worried about and who chickened out(no pun intended) and did not trust their young QB.

I have seen this for too many years now and it is time for UGA to make a move at OC. If that does not work, CMR should be relocated to the WAC. 13 NATIONAL TITLES – 22 SEC TITLES!!!

Well guys – I picked UGA to have a special season – I really thought UGA would squeek out a win against an improved SC team.

However – the season has just started – and remember – SC plays Alabama and Florida.

What did we learn?
Defense:
1. Defense needs some beef on the Line
2. Grantham is a very good coach – great adjustments.
3. UGA LB’s and DB’s are good

Remember – when Alabama switched to a 3/4 – it took a year before we became a dominant defense as we had to ingrain the system and recruit the right personnel.

Offense:
1. Offense played it too close to the vest – act liked they were playing not to lose.
2. O- Line is not as good as advertised. In fact – looked mediocre.
3. Murray is a good QB.

A disappointing start – but I believe this is an early wake up call. Still can win the SEC EAST – but lose to Arkansas next week – and SC will need to lose three games.

ROLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL TIDE!!!!

This is just my view about the game. I was expecting this one as a loss. I was not planning on seeing our O-Line get kicked around like they did. Defense corrected a few areas. Let’s just give credit where credit is due. SC played a heck of a game and their RB was awesome. They have a very good team that will beat the Gators. We still have a good team. Can’t believe all the people on here poor mouthing the players and coaches. The ones that are doing this don’t come on here after the Arky game when we win and start to praise everyone. I have seen a big improvement with this years team compared to the past 2. Hey, only 4 penalties. Sucks that Ealey fumbles on the 3, but that stuff happens. WE ARE GETTING BETTER!
I am starting to get more and more on board about Bobo’s poor play calling. You can’t be conservative in the SEC. I don’t care if it’s a freshman or what. CMR is still a great HC. I’ll take him over just about anyone still.
I’m ready to see the changes that will be made to get ready for Arky. I believe that we will improve a good bit. They have a good team, but the Dawgs will prevail by 10! Go Dawgs!

The best 2 players on the field saturday were freshmen Lattimore and Murray.

Time for richt to go back to calling plays.

Time for Bobo to go coach the QB’s on fundamentals, footwork etc.

Allowing Ealey to play bit Richt. I know King was hurt but you play Thomas, Malcome, Chapas whoever.

The defense is better than any under Martinez except maybe 2005 that had not allowed WM to ruin them yet. 24 points in 2 games. Last year, we lose this game 42-6

Murray is going to be a star. Time to let him loose. Pass to set up the run. Let the kid play. Take the governor off of the go cart.

What a fiasco at SC!

Dooley stay out of Georgia’s business because your a bad politician. To the University…..quit tying Mark Richts hand and allow him to start calling plays again or get a new O.C. I dont think i would wanna replace a coach that avgs 9-10 wins a season and roll the dice. Keep the politics outta football and let this guy coach, let him make changes that are necessary to make UGA what it once was and my gosh you have the money to get a very good O.C.

Harsh Reality

September 13th, 2010
11:42 am

Not saying the sky is falling, but the team that showed up on Sat, is NOT the same team that showed up week one.

The players came out flat
The coaches looked flat

I’m not saying Richt has got to be something he’s not personality wise, but players take on the persona of their coach period. There were times when I wondered if Richt even had a pulse on Sat.

South Carolina came out jacked up ready to hit someone in the mouth and did so. Both lines of scrimage got pushed around and the sad part is with few execptions the Dawgs just seemed like they lost their will to fight. I blame that on coaching.

In the past I’ve been one who’s said the off field issues aren’t a big deal, college kids will be college kids, most of the infractions were minor, but now it appears to be a symptom of a much larger problem. The players obviously have no fear of consequences for their actions on or off the field. The fact that our defense got pushed up the middle and we had Bean and Geathers on the bench is insanity at it’s worst. hmmmmm our smaller NT (who btw knows he’s better suited for one of the DE spots) is getting pushed around, so let’s leave his 6′6 320 and 6′5 325 counterparts on the bench and not even give them any reps.

Then on the other side of the ball you’ve got both Richt and Bobo coaching scared. They are bound and determined to make Murray something he’s not and that’s a pocket passer. Part of what makes Murray so dynamic is his ability to use his legs and improvise. I knew we were in trouble when all Richt could say about his TD run last week is that it was ill advised. Murray is a redshirt freshman and is going to make some mistakes, but I have no doubt that he wouldn’t have taken off and ran last week for that score unless he was absolutely confident he could make it.

UGA is no better now than when we were in the last days of Donnan. Richt has just been given a little more rope since he’s won a couple of SEC championships.

The players obviously don’t respect the coaches or their fellow teammates with a performance like that.

Is it just me, but I just can’t understand how a team can come out all jacked up and ready to play agaisnt LA-Lafayette and then in a CRITICAL game against one of your biggest rivals just come out and show up flat and just go through the motions.

We have the talent we just need more agressive coaching and coaches that don’t coach with fear of failure or fear of making mistakes or fear of putting too much on young players. Quit coddling the young players and let them play!

I’ll be shocked if we actually “Open up the offense” this week. They say this crap everytime after a big loss and we’re still waiting for them to open it up.

This crap is getting really old. I’ve been a big Richt supporter but the program has hit a wall and he’s lost control of the team. Think back to the last days of Donnan, players were getting in trouble left and right, he started losing to teams we were supposed to beat, and tons of excuses but few answers.

I keep thinking what Bobby Bowden said when he was hired, “Mark’s a very good coach, but I think he may be too nice to be the head man”

No Mobile, really wasn’t directing it to a specific person. I don’t know the specifics of why gave up this or didnt try that. I assume they could break it down in a filmroom and convince every single one of why it “seemed” like a good idea at the time. And then show us why it didn’t work. Maybe SC adjusted to the outside run. Not hard to look down from the press box and notice them bringing help over to shut down that corner. And then we didn’t have an answer.

We did run a wildcat formation a few times, we did run a draw play several times. Play action. Obviously we didn’t do the exact same thing every time. I think when they do something even a couple of times and it doen’t work, we tend to remember that’s all they tried.

In hindsight I bet they call different ones. In the words of Vince Dooley….”well hell no I wouldn’t run that again, I know how that turned out.”

I guess I am actually being more pessimistic than some. Some seem to think we had better options and just inexplicable choose to call play that would be less effective. Why somebody would do that, I’m not sure, but maybe so. That seems a lot easier to fix, just call better plays. I am making the assumption that we went with our best options, and just couldn’t get the job done. That seems like a bigger problem to have.

Jeff, the word is Voila!,not wa la. Why can’t Uga players tackle? As said previously, they leave the ground to make a tackle, and so they do not have any force behind them to make the tackle. Nothing except their arms! This was a major issue last year, and now here it is again! The defense is much improved, just think how good it will be when they can tackle! Trust me, tackling better is a necessary key to the defense. I,for one am not worried about Mallet. He threw for hundreds of yards last year, and we still beat them!

I wanted to pass the ball, put what was the need? With the huge holes in the GA defense and the lack of tackling ability, I became the ball giver to Lattimore all night. Seems like the GA coaches would have realized they were getting blown off the line of scrimmage, so that I could throw the ball more. Next time please realize you are getting manhandled and pounded inside so I can pad my passing stats.

Also, thank you GA offense, for being an easily predictable running offense on the same downs, over and over.

Harsh is right………….. We have got beef up the middle on defense and i think Georgia will do that this weekend against Arkansas. Im sure that they are studying the game films by now and see how weak we are up the middle and Grantham knows this as well. Remember that these players are still trying to learn Granthams scheme so be patient but we cant have players that are too chicken to tackle out there on the field like Rambo did last saturday.
Im guessing that Rambo will not play this saturday because of lack of skills tackling and hopefully Brandon Smith or atleast someone with some guts to fill this void. The offense needs dramatic improvement and only 11 first downs is unacceptable. You guys kept our defense on the field too long. You cant expect the defense to save you and win games for you. Quit making excuses that things would have been better with A.J. Green because one of you have to step up and make a difference on the field. I thought that when Ealey came back he would make a difference but the offensive line couldnt move SC line and that hurt Ealey’s rushing performance. Now i do blame offensive line because there’s 2 seniors, 2 Junior’s and 1 sophmore thats very experienced and they blocked very well on pass protection but poorly on opening holes. I’d say utilize the tight end more, more screens and when something is working good for ya, stick with it…..quit calling “wildcat plays” and looking like highschool football team. Richt needs to assume play calling again but i was detested on how Richt would rub his hair and adjust his sun glasses, be a coach and stop worrying about a photo op’s for Sports Illustrated. Guy’s this is serious business, looking over at the sidelines and seeing you guy’s smiling and cutting up like it was another day on the golf course really concerns me.

Box score says it all. Defense gave up 17 despite poor tackling and inability to stop middle run game. Offense should never score less than 17 in a game.

fact is we had 2 rushing first downs and averaged. 2.3 yards per carry on 26 attempts. Compare that to 9.1 yards per attempt (over 13 per completion) and 9 first downs through the air. 21 total attempts (45% of the play calls) were passes, the only part of our offense that was productive. we ran the ball up the middle for no gain a number of times and ran the ball around the corner for 7-10 yards 2 to 3 times and quit. BOBO, stop finding weaknesses in defenses and going back to the old UGA run-it-up-the-gut offense. stop being scared to open the game up.

No it was not a blow out but we did not score a touchdown. You hold a team to 17 in their house you should win the game. Bobo is a complete joke as an OC but CMR does not have the stones to do anything about it. This is not a one game assessment on my part. Bobo has been horrible ever since he took over. Yes, he will have an occasional good game plan but not a consistent one. What is our “identity” on offense? Don’t have one do we? Supposed to be a pro style offense but you have to be able to run the ball in that offense to set up the pass. Our offensive line got ABUSED Saturday and that was supposed to be the strength of our team. Also, our strength and conditioning coach needs to go because I have noticed that our players accross the board in the SEC are smaller and less physical. SC had some mammoth offensive linemen and the pushed us around all day. The defense played hard and kept us in the game but did you know that Lattimore broke 28 tackles and had 121 yards rushing after contact. That cannot happen. Yes, he appears to be a stud but unless he is the next Herschel or Bo a true freshman should not run rampant on you like that.

I’ve been fed up with greedy/me only pro players and am now fed up with these college punks. This is what coach Dooley (UT) said of young punks of today:

Dooley said his players’ response to second half adversity was a microcosm of young people’s mentalities these days.

“I think it’s a little bit of a sociological issue,” he said. “I think that more than ever before, we are in such a results-oriented world that children are groomed from the beginning about winning and losing, and not competing. And I think it’s something that they all want success, and they want all this personal gratification, and they lose site of what it takes to get that.

“And I think you don’t just see it in sports. The sociologists have called this the entitlement generation. If you ask employers out there across the board, there’s a consensus across the board that this generation comes in expecting raises and expecting bonuses and wanting vacation more than any other generation of the past. And so I think their focus is on the wrong thing. It’s on kind of the show, it’s on they want everything easy. It’s not their fault. I think it’s a generational thing

“It’s important that we teach them the importance of process, and that you get your satisfaction from the investment you put into something.”

Im sure he knows that Bobo is a sorry O.C. but i also have heard that Vince Dooley had something to do possibly with them giving Bobo second and third chances. The offensive line is my biggest issue. These guys were supposed to be one of the top groups in the nation. Their first two games have shown them to be overrated. They have not done the job up front to open holes for the running game. The same thing happened at the start of last season.

You can only blame so much on the RB. UGA has the talent there. Now its up to the O-line to make it happen. The Defense will have some growing pains in a new system. Still, they kept South Carolina off the scoreboard. UGA was in that ballgame all the way down to the end. Its no excuse for the O-line not to run block better than what they are doing.

Ron

12:50 pm

It was only the 2nd game of the season, i think that the coaching staff will make the necessary adjustments and hopefully i pray to let Coach Richt start calling the plays again. If he doesnt then we will probably not score much against Arkansas and our defense will get worn down again. I would say that our 3 down linemen and CB’s had very poor performances last week and were outta shape upfront and the CB’s were too scared to tackle. Back to the fundamentals boys, lots of laps and hopefully youre all ashamed of how you got dominated. SC will lose to Alabama and Florida and possibly Tennessee so Georgia still has a chance to win it.
Todd Grantham i betcha will take out Rambo and dont you know hes all over the Defensive backs for their lack of enthusiasm and tackling skills and i hope we’ll see a different defense this saturday. Theres no miracles with the defense cause it takes awhile to adjust but we have a god awful offense and if i had any pull with Georgia……Bobo would be out and coaching the QB’s and that would take effect immediately. Todd you get a pass this year but Bobo should have never ever been a OC. He knows that, we know and the A.D. knows that so hopefully we’ll get some news about this before the week is up. But i’d say to get a very O.C. and not make it public if thats possible cause Georgia has the money.

I watched the game again and it was clear to me that Georgia’s DB’s did a very good job of containing Garcia and SC’s passing attack. Our players were in the right scheme for most of the game. Our problem was along the DL. The good news is Richt knows and Grantham will address it.

Our real problems are along the OL. They simply can not run block and our backs are making some very poor reads.

Bobo’s offense has to score 21 a game, minimum. Grantham is doing his job, holding offenses to under 18 a game. Just need for the offense to find a way to score when get in the red zone. Georgia moved the ball good enough to get inside the 10 yard line on 3 different drives. You can’t get inside the 10, on 3 drivs, and come away with 6 points. Should have been 21 points there and a win.

SC is in the East driver’s seat more than we realize, maybe. They do play Alabama during the season and although winning that game would be their greatest win ever ………….ever ………it would not really be that important. Why?

If SC only loses to Alabama and they run the SEC table, even with a loss to Clemson, they will AGAIN face Bama but in the Dome. They could possibly win that game and end up like top 3- 7 in the nation. If they do this and lose to Bama twice ……………..still be top 10, easily too.

Now that Lattimore kid is the real deal. He will be soon getting tons of Heisman talk. By late October, if he continues to get 150-200 yds per game and they continue to win …………he will win it. He IS THE difference in SC being only average to great …………very much like UGA was in 80. hec an falt out catch that dump pass from their QWB and scat. SC did not do that vs UGA that i recall. Did not have to. Our fat slobs could not stop him up our middle. Disgraceful.

SC and Alabama for all the marbles come season end in the Dome.

My ala mater …….UGA ? We will be facing Dolly Madison in the Richmond Spider BIte Bowl.

Hard for me to believe that 30 more pounds at nose is going to make any difference, especially if the player isn’t as strong. Pick up a 30 pound dumbell and see if you think placing one of those in someones back pocket would make them better able to stop the run. Makes no sense. We may have the back 8 players for this defense, but the front 3 just aren’t all that good. If we still had the three DL we lost to the NFL last year in this scheme it would be a great defense. But we don’t so it’s going to be difficult and will take several years to get the personnel needed to fit the scheme.

One play I thought was big in the game was a result of poor coaching from my view. First series of the game Murray rolled out threw a little behind to Orson who dropped a touchdown. When he rolled out he could have ran 15 yards EASY maybe all the way in. But that coaching he got during the first game not to run the ball and to make sure we get SOME points, COST us points and the lead and the momentum and all that stuff. Most games come down to a few plays and that one and Ealey’s fumble were the two I thought that cost us that game.

Any idiot that runs a 3/4 should know that you need a 350lb agile monster at nose guard. Richt keeps saying we need to do this, we need to do that. It’s pretty easy to stick them in the game and let them play. Frankly, I’m tired of the excuses and we need a new OC if not a new offensive coaching staff period. The team is too timid and play like a bunch of girls and don’t deserve to be ranked. Jakar Hamilton needs to live up to the name, “Hitman”. Right now, that’s a joke. Team as a whole needs to develop a killer instinct and become more aggressive from this point on. If we don’t improve it’s time for a coaching change. If you don’t agree, the proof is on the field. Saban comes in and in 3-4yrs wins and NC and Richts been here 10yrs and still no luck. That says a lot for the talent of a Head Coach.

The best this team can hope for is a 7 – 5 record. All the determination expressed by CMR has resulted in very little – if anything. I can’t point to any bright spots unless we point to the kicking game. QB didn’t play real bad, but we didn’t get any TD’s either. Long year coming up. CMR can salvage something of the season if: 1. He calls the plays. (I’m not sure that will do any good though because he hasn’t done it for so long); 2. The O Line wakes up and gives the running backs a chance to make some yardage. GA could be 1 – 3 before this happens though.

Well, ya’ll…
I don’t profess to know everything, and I am not a highly-paid coach at the collegiate level, but…I know one thing for sure and it isn’t even open to argument…DeAngelo Tyson is TOO SMALL to play nose tackle in this league.

He is an excellent player and will be an outstanding DE, but you can’t plug holes and clog running lanes against SEC O-lines at 290 lbs. You just can’t.

SC ran Lattimore over and over right up the middle, at least 95% of the time…right where Tyson was playing. They simply plowed him over and out of the way. Nothing against him as he probably gave great effort, but he was purely and completely over-matched.

Why the coaches didn’t play the bigger, stronger, albeit inexperienced, guys I will never know. They weren’t even on the participation roster for the game. Experience or lack of, notwithstanding, should have been thrown out the window. The big boys should have been called to the front and told simply…”stay low and don’t let anyone through your lane! Here is your opportunity to become the great run-stopper we all believe you can be… Now go in there kick that centers ass!”

Extreme conditions call for extreme measures. The SC game, after the second TD right up the middle, should have become a situation treated as such.

CTG is an excellent coach, but he is relatively new to the college game. He will learn from this and we will be better defensively. Tackling is coachable and easy to fix. I guarantee you that will be priority one this week during practice, along with the personnel changes mentioned.

Offensively, the bindings are coming off and CMR is going to turn Murray loose now. The play book will now be wide open. We have ourselves a very talented, very capable young QB. The boy can play, make no mistake about that. And the O-line? It will reset itself and start hitting on all cylinders like the last half of ‘09…and that should be encouraging to everyone.

We got our noses bloodied Saturday, no doubt. As a young man growing up, whenever I tasted blood in a fight, I got meaner and stronger. I became hardened and resolved not to stop until I got the other guy to want to stop because he was too tired of scrapping with me.

This team will do likewise. Count on it.

DawgByte and Eaassy, I’m not drinking your Kool aid this season. Nothing I seen the past two weeks makes me think this won’t be another mediocre season (like the last two when I heard all the same posts about it being too early in the season to write it off). SomethingToThinkAbout:

You are an idiot.

You are also the exact type of fair weather “fan” that this team needs fewer of.

Last year during the six games or so that Ealey played, you were probably woofing just as loud as as anyone about his great play. Now, when he can’t run because the O-line didn’t do there job, you want him on a bus? With AJ Green? The best WR, hell, the best PLAYER this school has ever had other than Hershel Walker?

They made mistakes that hurt the team as well as themselves. But they haven’t done anything to dishonor the team. You want to know what dishonoring your team is? Selling the SEC championship rings that it took the team twenty years to win…that is dishonorable. These young men simply used poor judgment made a careless mistake but have learned from it. The team has forgiven them and accepted them back in the fold. Who the hell are you to call for their dismissal?

Do us all a favor and go play in a busy street somewhere. Like maybe Columbia or Tuscalooser.

Phil – “Hard for me to believe that 30 more pounds at nose is going to make any difference, especially if the player isn’t as strong. Pick up a 30 pound dumbell and see if you think placing one of those in someones back pocket would make them better able to stop the run.”

You got it right. Force = Mass X Acceleration. Strength is needed to get that big body moving. You can easily push over a 6′6″ 330 pound log standing on end, probably with 1 hand.

Agree with most that defense overmatched early but TG made halftime adjustments showing he can coach.

Offense – Do we ever have a game plan designed to attack or exploit other team’s weaknesses? It seems to me every series we just run random plays in hoping something will work. No strategy or game plan evident on offense. Did anyone see the sidelines in the 2nd half. Murray sitting by himself on the bench, no sign of Bobo or offensive coaches meeting with offensive players trying to make adjustments, etc. Just waiting to come out for the next series of “random plays”.

Even Lattimore knew what their offensive strategy was based on USCs strategy against 3-4. I bet not one GA player could answer what our strategy was because we apparently don’t have one.

Stop blaming these athletes for lack of decipline. If you pamper a child you spoil the child. That’s exactly what Mr.Richt has done to our young men. Here’s an example. Back in 2002 Mr.Richt got upset because the fans booed David Green.http://jacksonville.com/tu-online/stories/090602/col_10375439.html They will get their feeligs hurt? Steve Spurrier would of told his qb “If you play poorly you will get booed so live with it” Mr.Richt made it seem like Ealey’s fumble was no big deal. Ealey response. ” Ok Coach” Spurrier would of told Ealey to get away from him.

Think about this. If a player got in trouble for driving with a suspended license which coach do you believe that player would rather face Mr.Richt or Steve Spurrier? I think most would say Mr.Richt. Until we get a hc who will put fear in these players and put the fans above his coaching staff we will continue to have the same issures. I study some coaches who I believe can turn this team around in a hurry.

1) Chris Peterson – I believe he would love to coach in the SEC where the real competition is.

2) Butch Davis – It didn’t take long for him to turn the Tar Heels around

3) Mike Martz(former NFL) – I really like this coach. As a former OC he led the Rams to a SB victory.

4) Bill Cowher – I’m dreaming here.

5) Dan Reeve – I like Dan because he is from this state and the players will respect him.

6) Brian Kelly – He did a nice job at Cincinnati.

Any of these coaches will fit in very well. I would like to keep T.Grantham, Belkin and Lakatos.

Other than a freshman running back(who will go down as one of the best ever in SEC) running all over us the D looked better. There was plenty of pressure, there was no big play given up. The Dawgs will ok, gonna take a few games to get in sync, if we get through this weekend then we will roll to FL with 1 loss. Mark it down.

Why didn’t you do that for the first game. Same ole georgia. Charles drops a pass one yard from the end zone and of course the fumble on the five. Georgia should have won that game. What happen to the Stud Defensive tackles that Georgia use to recruit like Seymour, Stroud, guys 6′5″ and over and 325 lbs. Why are the other SEC teams getting those guys who can play and not Georgia. Jim Donnan use to be able to get those Guys, but more recently we recruit the smaller DT i.e. Jeff Owens 6′1″ 300lbs. Alabama and Florida has some stud Linebackers but we recruit some 5′10″ guys. I hope TG will change that.

Tellmeagain-
You hit the nail on the head, buddy. I travel to a lot of away games and I hear the same thing from the fans of most of the people we play…UGA has the biggest bunch of fence sitters in their fan base that they have ever seen. They call us the “NOW” fans. They say it’s not just criticism of the team, per se, but even individual players. They only support the ones that are playing well at the time.

They all “love” Murray right NOW.

But let him have one bad game, and many of these so-called fans will be calling for his replacement. Right NOW they think Ealey is worthless, because he fumbled. But during that series he ran the ball very well considering the terrible job of blocking he was getting. If he doesn’t put the ball on the turf, we score and probably tie the game. Could have been a whole different outcome in that game. Spurrier wouldn’t have been so genius and Lattimores’ rushing yards, while significant, would have been an afterthought.

Yeah, right NOW, Ealey is a chump.

But these same people were all runing for president of the “Washaun Ealey Fan Club” last year after the Tech game.

A.J. is bum right NOW.

But before all this stuff about him selling HIS jersey on e-Bay came to light, he practically walked on water with these same two-faced pinheads that are calling for suspension for the entire year. The whole year? Seriously? When Alabama’s Dareus took almost three grand in cash, a first-class round trip airline ticket, and par-tayed and rubbed elbows all night with AGENTS got a four-game suspension reduced to TWO? AYFKM? I don’t hear anyone in their fan base calling for his dismissal. I don’t hear Mr. No-Non Sense, Nick Saban, having a problem with putting Dareus back in the line-up. Oh, that’s right…he won ‘Bama a NC…that’s different. All is forgiven. He is winning NOW. No wonder so many of our fans worship him and CUM so loudly. They are all connected by the NOW factor.

No worries. We’ll start winning and probably beat some team we weren’t expected to and Richt and Bobo will make them happy again for NOW… and Ealey and Green will have huge games against one of our bigger rivals and they will be great again, for NOW. The O-Line? May take them awhile to get back in the good graces of these fans. They only shine a little bit when the big stars are glowing, but we’ll see.

The defense will probably have to pitch a couple of shut-outs to get back inside the NOW circle, but that too is possible.

Yeah, the quicker these coaches and players learn about this NOW thing, the better off they will be.

One final thought…maybe in stead of giving up on trying to improve what appears to be a pretty good base, we should look for more constructive ways to get something done. Maybe Bobo needs to go back to coaching the QB’s. He has done a fine job with that. The accomplishments of Greene and Shockley as well as Staffords draft status are owed in no small part to his stewardship. He will make Murray better also.

Maybe Richt needs to go back to calling plays. I’d say we were quite successful when he was holding the play sheet.

I’m a Dawg fan. Through thick and thin. Forever. I want to us to win…Big. Sooner would be better than later. Whatever tweaks are needed, do it. I believe Mark Richt will bring us back into the spot light of championship stardom soon. He has proven that he will make the tough decisions and changes needed to make us better. Does that mean hiring new personnel for the staff again next year? Maybe. I don’t know. But I trust him to do what is best for Georgia. And I know he will.

But as for the NOW generation? I’ll pass.

The football talent coming out of high schools in Georgia is overrated, especially by the people in Georgia. Folks in Georgia don’t see it and won’t admit it. The mediocre talent has contributed to the record. The Martinez and Bobo coaching has not helped, but, had they the talent with Junkyard Dawg attitude the record would have been different. It seems each few years the players have increasingly become complacent and passive.

My problem with the offense is formations. When we line up in 2 backs they play the run. when we line up with 3 or 4 wide they play the pass. When we did run play action it worked very well but we are to predictable from our formations. What is our percentage of runs when we have 3 or 4 wide? It is easier to defence when you know what is coming.
