Game time, TV set for Georgia-Mississippi State

After three consecutive noon-ish starts, Georgia will play its first night game of the season Sept. 25 at Mississippi State.

The game will begin at 7 p.m. Eastern Time and be televised on Fox Sports Net, the SEC announced today.

Other SEC games on Sept 25 include Alabama at Arkansas (3:30 p.m. on CBS) and South Carolina at Auburn (7:45 p.m. on ESPN).

Meanwhile, as previously announced, the Georgia-Arkansas game on Saturday in Sanford Stadium is scheduled for a noon start (or a couple of minutes thereafter). The game will be on ESPN, the SEC said today.

Georgia’s game at South Carolina last week started at noon and the Bulldogs’ season opener against Louisiana-Lafayette at 12:21 p.m.

From earlier today:

Gamecocks ‘really controlled line of scrimmage,’ Spurrier says; does that mean changes for Dogs?

I love night games.

I know the old timers who have season tickets, and live all over South Georgia hate having to drive home or make it an overnight trip, and I know the school itself hates what the extra tailgating time does to the campus.

Even though this is an away game, I love being able to relax all day, watch other games, then consider UGA’s the main event of my day.

Case in point this past weekend, when we play at noon, and decide to forget how to takle, it ruins the rest of my day. There was too much good football on this past Saturday that I wanted nothing to do with or watch. Night games, if we slip up, I can just go to bed.

Looking forward to seeing adjustments this coming weekend, and NOT having to see Lattimore for another year.

GO DAWGS!!!

I totally agree , the reason UGA won last year was because of Green and they would have won this year if Green had played. Lattimore would have run the ball a lot less if Green had been there because SC would have had to play catch up ball and that means rely of only an average QB in Garcia. Garcia wouldn’t have gotten the job done. All SC has on offense is Lattimore. Also If , the sorriest excuse for a offensive coordinator in college football, Bobo had let Murray run the ball when his receiver we covered UGA would have won.

I agree that the poor tacking/disappointing loss this weekend ruined the football experience for the rmainder of the weekend for me. I know I wasn’t the only one screaming at my TV on Saturday afternoon. If I see another Dawg trying to tackle with one side of his shoulder pad I’m going to lose it. You have arms for a reason boys! Take those arms and wrap them around those legs. You will have a much better shot at stopping that opposing player.

Kudos to Lattimore, he is obviously talented but he should not have had the numbers he did when he was hit 2 or 3 times before actually being taken down.

Todd Grantham, for the love of all that is holy….please work on tackling drills this week!

I am a UGA Alum and season ticket holder and I don’t think having Green would have won the game for UGA. May have scored one more TD, but SC would have pulled it out. Green didn’t play and won’t for 2 more games. It only makes the GA fans look like they have no confidence in the players on the field without Green. We did fine without him last year, didn’t we? This is the best SC team Spurrier has had since he has been there. Lattimore is going to be a problem for the majority of defenses this year. I really believe AL will see them in the SEC Championship game in December. Then we will see how good that Freshman is, which is really good. I bet you he will gain 1500 yards this year. He is a stud. GA fans can’t get too down with a new QB and new D coordinator. Richt should have played Murray some last year and let Martinez go after the 2008 season. Thought he learned his lesson when he redshirted Moreno in 2006. UGA will be lucky to win 8-9 games this year. Don’t sleep on Miss State on their field. They are a good team also.

Dogs Smell – UGA had the ball three times inside the 15 yard line. They score TD’s that means the score is 21-17 rather than 17-6 with the two FG’s and fumble. So actually one player maybe could have made the difference and the game was closer then you will admit.

UGA is in trouble.
Get beat by Arkansas this Saturday – your season is toast in regards to winning the SEC East.

What did I recently read?
UGA is 10-11 in last 21 SEC EAST games.
– lost 3 of last 4 against Florida
– lost 3 of last 4 against Tennessee
– split 2 of last 4 against KY
– split 2 of last 4 against SC
– won 3 of last 4 against Vandy.
– However, UGA did lead the SEC East in arrests this year!!!

I was hoping UGA would be undefeated coming into JAX. Now, whast the hell – go Hogs, go Bullies, whatever, UGA’s program is in DEEP trouble.

UGA is 10-21 in last 21 SEC EAST games vs Mississippi State.

I agree in part of what you said at 1:34 but Alabama would have beaten SC by 40 points . You have to have a leader on the team and Garcia ,ain’t him. Sometimes all you have to do is hand the ball off to a running back 37 times. Garcia missed wide open receives that would have scored, at least 2 times. Spurrier did what it took to win the game. On the other hand CMR and Bobo has Murray scared to death to run the ball. When UGA was down inside the 20 one of the times, Murray missed Orson over the middle and UGA had to settle for a field goal . Murray may have missed a wide open Orson and that’s on him , if that’s what happened . But he could have run for 8 or ten yards. The run was open on that play but Bobo has Murray so scared to run, half of why Murray was so great in high school is neutralized.

Really?

September 13th, 2010
1:58 pm

CBB1 – I agree with you about UGA getting handled up front however I am not sure it was due to lack of conditioning as much of lack of passion and fire. I was on UGA’s sideline for the game this past weekend and I didn’t see any fire on the sideline. The players were very lackadaisical. When they came off the field they went straight to the bench and sat down. I didn’t see any passion or fire.

Wow! Told you morons SC would run all over UGA.

However, it is only ONE Loss – but UGA needs to beat Arkansas this weekend. Good thing for UGA that Tennessee is in complete rebuild mode and that Kiffin is gone. Kiffin would have beaten that UGA butt – again!

If UGA gets beat by Arkansas this weekend – UGA is staring at a 5 to 6 loss season. I doubt it would happen – based on talent – but there is some serious preparedness issues at UGA.

I expected us to run on UGA – and I stated that BOBO would come out too conservative – would have to play catch – up and that SC would salt it away at the end.

BOBO “played” scared – and UGA lost.

UGA defense – switchig to a 3/4 – will struggle at times with the new system. Rambo standing there confused. UGA not putting the BEEF in the middle really hurt as we atacked your inside.

AJ Green not the issue – BOBO and no NT was the issue.

ESPN is the absolute worst. I understand the incessant commercials; it was the league’s decision to go for the gold and this is the downside. The SEC gets a potful of money and we have to either TIVO the game or sit through commercial after commercial after commercial.

Ok, that’s bad enough, but PUHLEASE do a better job of producing the broadcast. We don’t give a rat’s patookie about constantly having to see Bob Davie and the other guy talk. We’d MUCH rather see a replay of the previous play. It’s bad enough having to listen to them. Also, anyone watching an SEC game would much rather see EVERY play of the game than miss a few to get the update of Washington State vs. Oregon Technical college.

A new DC ( $750 ), a new 3-4 schema, and the same ole crappy defense. I thought this guy was here to stress tackling? Lattimore is a power runner and you can’t bring him to the ground by bumping him. There were really no adjustments in the second half, when SC needed to secure the game they gave it back to Lattimore and he ate up time and yardage.

Murray did ok considering. He wasn’t pressured that much, but he did miss a possble touchdown to Charles with the pass behind him in the redzone and it also looked like Durham was waiting on his 55 yarder as well. Correct that and you have a ballgame.

CBB1,

Normally I’d agree with you about one player not making a difference, but when that player is AJ Green I disagree. He torched South Carolina’s secondary last year, and he has the ability to put a team on his back and score 1-2 TD’s a game. If Aaron Murray had him in the lineup, it would have been nasty. Now I’ll give South Carolina credit and say that it would have been a close game, but I think the Dawgs would have pulled it out 20-17 or 23-20 had AJ played. South Carolina was the better team Saturday, but if these two teams played again with AJ back, the defense working out the kinks: Yes I think the Dawgs win. The fact that South Carolina ran all over this team and only put up 17 points shows you that they are not that great, because an elite team like Florida or Alabama would have hung 30-40 points on our defense if we played like that against them.

When Green is in the line up other team have no choice but to double and some times triple team him or he will have over 200 yards easily. That opens up everything. Others receivers, Fullback out of the backfield, and the run. Totally different game. Spurrier would have had to rely on Garcia and he would have choked.

No excuses, and this certainly didn’t make or break the game but I found this little gem and I thought I’d share it.

By Matt Zemek

Yes, the people who review plays in the booth or officiate on the field are sincerely trying to do their best. They’re not bought off and paid for. They are making an honest attempt to provide players, coaches and fans with a legitimate competition that is fairly adjudicated.

However, just two weeks into the season, we’ve already had our fill of unconscionable embarrassments served up in both the booth and on the field.

In the booth, the SEC – which presided over the atrocious non-call against LSU in its loss to Alabama last season – jobbed Georgia in its game against South Carolina.

Replay clearly showed that South Carolina receiver Justice Cunningham was dragged down by a Georgia defender at the 33-yard line, just under a full yard short of the yellow line (which is very accurate, certainly within 2-3 inches). Yet, an absurd forward-progress spot put the ball at the 34, good enough for a first down. Georgia coach Mark Richt smartly challenged the ruling, which should have been a slam dunk. Yet, the replay-booth reviewer at Williams-Brice Stadium upheld the ruling on the field.

There are no words for that kind of self-evident incompetence. None.

When you give up only 17 points you should win 80-90% of your games. The Dogs offense stinks and it has for several years. The last few years I bet Georgia leads the country in fewest points scored vs total yards gained. Very similar to Richt’s last game at FSU as Off Coordiantor…they scored 2 points !!!

When I think of championship football I think of bammer and the might gators. But don’t worry dawgs. We will still be around to kick the crap out of you get again and top 49 this time. RXDawg. You are spot on about the spot and challenge. It was totally obvious on the replay and the announcers couldn’t believe it wasn’t overturned. It wasn’t even close really, he was easily a yard short. But, it porbably wouldn’thave mattered because Lattimore would have picked up the yard on 4th down anyway, especially with the way we were trying to arm-tackle him. I’m still embarrassed by our poor tackling.

Ga’s offensive line coach belongs in AA ball. Our offensive line has never been good since we changed coaches. Richt will never have a top program as long as he isn’t tough enough to change coaches. But he is first in line at the bank to cash that big check of his. I hope the new Athletic Director has a PAIR!

I surely understand your frustration, but young fella, Marcus Lattimore is a special back who will make defenses head swim all season long !………We got beat fair and square by a really good football team, while trotting out a brand new defense, and a red-shirt QB on a short chain……..Obviously you haven’t watched very much college football……just watch how the rest of the season pans out for us and South Carolina, then and only then, I think you will know what I am talking about………Regards RED

Amen, Red Dog 77! “…Marcus Lattimore is a special back who will make defenses head swim all season long !………We got beat fair and square by a really good football team, while trotting out a brand new defense, and a red-shirt QB on a short chain……” And coach Richt has stated that we’ll use way more of the playbook from now on out. The coaches are making adjustments.

From “The Red and Black”…

“…we know we have some work to do,” Richt said in his Sunday teleconference. “We’re still learning our players a little bit and where everybody fits the best and what’s our best lineup still.”
With nose tackle DeAngelo Tyson and defensive end Brandon Wood taking most of the work load at their respective positions, Richt said Abry Jones and Kwame Geathers need to be incorporated more into the rotation of the defensive linemen…“We gotta just get more guys in the game. We gotta not have [Tyson] play as many snaps as he played,” Richt said. “That’s true of some of the others guys too. We gotta get Abry in the game more, we gotta get Bean in the game more, we gotta get Geathers in the game more. They played a lot of 3-receiver sets, a lot of 4-receiver sets or at least put us in more of a nickel situation so our nose guards come out during that time. We just gotta find a way to get them in there.”
With the success South Carolina had running the ball and through the air against Georgia’s defense, Saturday’s game film has the potential to act as a blueprint for beating the Bulldogs….Richt said improving the rotation on the defensive line must happen to prevent that blueprint from becoming a guaranteed winning formula for future opponents to use….”
