(Please click here for the game story on Georgia’s loss to South Carolina.)
COLUMBIA – The suspended A.J. Green shared his feelings about Saturday’s loss via Twitter.
“I’m sick,” he tweeted.
“But we will bounce back,” he added. “[W]hen I get back someone will have a price to pay. [T]rust me!!!!!”
In Green’s absence, seven Georgia players caught passes against South Carolina, led by Kris Durham’s three for 76 yards, including a long of 55.
“You can’t replace A.J.,” Durham said. “I tried to step up. We all tried to step up our game. But you can’t replace that. He’s one of the best players in college football.”
++++++++++
South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier appreciated some postgame words from Mark Richt.
“I shook hands with the opposing coach, and he said, ‘Coach, you have a heck of a team,’” Spurrier said. “I don’t think anyone has ever told us that before [at South Carolina].”
In his postgame news conference, Spurrier took just a little dig at Georgia’s new defensive coordinator, Todd Grantham, a long-time NFL assistant.
“When you have a back like Marcus [Lattimore] and the linemen opened cracks, I’m sure that Georgia defensive coordinator [became frustrated],” Spurrier said. “That little inside zone play, the NFL doesn’t run that play. That’s a new scheme, I guess.
“I’m sure they knew we’d run it, but they certainly didn’t stop it much.”
Lattimore’s 37 carries were the most against Georgia since Auburn’s Kenny Irons had the same number for 179 yards in 2005.
++++++++++
Tailback Caleb King, who got only one carry in the second half of the season opener because of a twisted ankle, got none Saturday.
“He was hobbling most of the week in practice,” Richt said.
Offensive coordinator Mike Bobo conceded that King’s absence “hurt us a little bit” but said he thought Washaun Ealey “was fresh and ran hard” throughout.
Ealey, making his season debut after being suspended from the opener, had 75 yards on 19 carries. But he fumbled near the goal line in the third quarter as Georgia seemed poised to score a touchdown. South Carolina’s Stephon Gilmore recovered the fumble at the Gamecocks’ 1-yard line and returned it 13 yards to the 14.
“I saw the end zone and was focused on trying to get in there,” Ealey said. “I wasn’t focused on the ball, and that’s what cost us.”
++++++++++
Outside linebacker Justin Houston had three sacks, the most by a UGA player since Marcus Howard’s three against Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl following the 2007 season.
Houston also had a career-high 10 tackles and a forced fumble.
But the fine individual numbers were ruined by the score, he said. “We lost, so I feel like I lost.”

Murray played well enough for us to win that game. It reminded me of the Florida game that Joe Tereshinski played when nobody else showed up.

The major problem with our team is that they are not scared to loose. Do any of you think that if the players had the fear of the coach in them ,like the players at Alabama must have of Saban, we would have lost to USC? No, I think we would have won because they would have been scaed to come off the field and face the consequences. I was sick and tired of seeing the same old thing with the guys yesterday. Arm tackling does not get it done and when a fan can see a play coming a mile away why can’t the coaches? I saw players acting like they were out ther for themselves. Vance Cuff taunting the fans and players on the sidelines after he defends a pass. One…one…one …ONE play. Why not defend a whole bunch of plays before you start acting like a little kid!
I have been the biggest supporter of CMR, but something has to be changed with the way that he handles his players or he will find himself in the same boat as a former coach at UGA who was let go because of his issues with institutional control.

10 starters back on offense and we can’t score AND MURRAY is the most impressive performer of the day, so listen to CMR say this week, “you know we had a RF QB. Geez.
Again,we play not tolose rather than to win. Just look at play calling in the first half. Pitiful.
If Lattimore was a Dawg, CMR would redshirt him and tell us he needs to learn to block and learn our 10 plaqys we run. Spurrier on the other hand gives him the rock 35 times and he destroys us. Geez. Big difference in mind set. We got pushed around all day yesterday is what scares me. How far behind are we in tiughness and physical ability. I know some bloggers on here are saying we just had a bad day. I saw a SC team push around at will. There is one thing Richt needs to worry about. Damon is gone and mr. Mcgarity is watching, and hearing.

A-Ville your right, last week Murray ran and Mark Richt got concerned that he might get hurt anbd i guess they scolded him from running and this week he seemed to wanna run but elected to pass when clearly he had an open field for lots of yards but then Mark Richt said he should allow Murray to be natural and run i guess. Fickled i guess, bad decision making on Richt but i still think Murray by himself wouldve not made a difference in the outcome.
Ealey’s fumble turned the momentum back over to SC, that bad call the officials made after Richt’s challenge was clearly over a yard for a 1st down. I ‘d say the fumble at the 3 yard line changed everything. But we still get back to play calling by Bobo and somehow he always seem to help keep other good teams close by bad play calling. Its like the guy is on crack or he’s betting against the team in las vegas.

Every year we have a top ten or top fifteen recruiting class and every year we get our butts whipped by teams like SC, Kentucky, GT and others that can only dream of such. So we get the best players and end up taking them to the Capitol One or Independence bowl. Top quality talent and mediocre results. Kids are starting to recognize that and its why we can’t even get the best players from GA to stay home. SC gets one five star recruit and they whip us all over the field and look like they have recruited all the best players? What’s up with that?

The offense has been the primary problem for three years. We dont sustain time of possession. But beyond that….our body language and lack of urgency is sickening!! If Bacarri Rambo is allowed to start next week then Grantham is a pretender and a joke. Every fan in the stadium could see that he was not trying but somehow our coaching staff could not. Lots of guys were taking plays off. Inexcusable!!

To all objective/reasonable UGA fans: if you ask yourself honestly…… Did you REALLY expect a different outcome yesterday? On one side you had Steve Spurrier calling the offensive plays, a guy with probably 30 plus years experience……on the other side you had BooBoo calling plays.
Case closed.

Our strength and conditioning program is the worst in the country. Our offensive line, which is supposed to be great can never blow people off the ball. Our defensive lineman are getting blown off the ball and we miss tackle after tackle.

I watched the AL-Penn ST. game and Bama’s players look like they live in the weight room! I see only one player from UGA (Houston) who could start on defense for Bama.

We’ve been stuck in mediocrity for years and I didn’t see anything yesterday to say that it won’t continue for years to come. We should be in the football elite. We are a second tier team doomed to go anywhere from 7-5 to 9-3 each year and go to a second tier bowl. If you can’t run and can’t tackle, you won’t win much in the SEC. The new AD needs to take action. I am tired of excuses and reasons. Look at the Florida and Alabama programs and you’ll see how far we are from being an elite program able to recruit nationwide. Thought we were there in the early to mid 2000’s, but it’s obvious we’ve plateaued. The current coaching crew does not appear to be able to take us to the next level.
It’s not just the SC game, it is the past several seasons. Pull back and take a look. Happy with good and not great?

I am really disappointed in the O line. They are all veterans and they should be dominating.
Murray played well, but 9 times out of 10 in football the team that dominates in the running game wins.
That was the case in this game.

I can’t believe everyone on here is bashing these poor “KIDS” they are only 18 years old. WAIT isn’t that what everyone says when they get arrested are get in trouble “They are only kids give them a break” Its time for a HOUSE CLEANING from top to bottom. UGA has the talent to beat anyone, we just don’t have the coaching. I have been a ticket holder for 12 years and decided last year that it was not worth the pain, heart aches, money, etc…. to keep them because CMR is going to be here until he wants to leave and why should I pay all that money when I can watch them lose at home and save a TON on money. I have gotten a lot grief for giving them up like you are not a real fan , I can’t believe you would give u your tickets you will never be able to get more well to all the ones that have ragged me HA, HA, HA spend all that money on a poor coached team.

I come away from this game with the same conclusion I have from watching an offense called by coach Bobo the last 2 years. We have no identity on offense. When the offense is beginning to click, we try to get “cute” w/ the wildcat even after showing it and having to call a timeout. Are you serious? On obvious running downs, we pass and vice versa (cute). Bobo’s 1st year against FL as OC, GA’ 1st drive of the game, 2nd and 2 in the red zone, Stafford back to pass and SACKED, GA doesn’t convert on 3rd down AND field goal hits the upright, NO POINTS. But all we hear after the game and throughout the season is Caleb King’s inability to pick-up the pass blocking scheme. Sorry for the long winded example, but if I went back and studied all the games since he took over the play calling, I could present countless examples of his incompetence. From my understanding, Richt conveniently appointed Bobo as OC to free up his time for the “Head Coaching” responsibilities. just as Willie Martinez was the convenient pick for DC when Van Gorder left. I ask anyone reading this, when looking at the remaining schedule, how many games would you give Bobo the check mark vs. the D coordinator on the other sideline?

The offense was NOT the problem is 2006 ?
Huh ?
We redshirted Knowshon Moreno in 2006.
We had no quarterback prepared for 2006.
We determined that Joe Tereshinski III was our # 1 QB 2006
We determined that Joe Cox was our # 2 QB 2006
We determined that Matthew Stafford was our # 3 QB 2006
We beat a horrible Colorado team 14-13 at HOME 2006
We beat also ran Ole Miss 14-9 2006
We LOST by 18 points to a very bad vols team at HOME 2006
We LOST to Vanderbilt scoring only 22 points at HOME 2006
We LOST to Florida scoring only 14 points 2006
We LOST to Kentucky scoring only 20 points 2006
We scored only 15 points playing a horrible Ga tek 2006
# 90 NCAA Total Offense for all of 2006
Matthew Stafford played all 13 games with 13 interceptions 2006
Matthew Stafford had a grand total of 7 touchdown passes 2006
Matthew Stafford also fumbled the football 8 times 2006
Matthew Stafford was # 87 in the nation total offense 2006
We LOST 4 games and easily could have been 5 MORE LOSSES because of our SORRY OFFENSE 2006.
Now, as for your musings that the Offense has been HORRENDOUS since Mike Bobo took over the Offensive Coordinator Job the following year 2007, THAT I do agree with.
But, 2006 was no walk in the park for our conservative play calling offense, playing favorites not getting our best players on the field, out of condition, poorly coached offensively, unable to block for the run or for the pass offense.
We have had NO FIRE since the last time we even went to The SEC Championship Game FIVE (5) YEARS ago. The last 5 years now, starting 2006, we have had NO OFFENSE. We don’t prepare quarterbacks, are not ready to play, have no stamina, don’t care, are primadonnas and therefore have a LOSING RECORD vs SEC East the last 5 years.

It amazes me the amount of ignorance on this blog. I am a UGA fan and supporter of Coach Richt. We lost to SC in 2007 and wound up #2 in the nation at years end. Yes, the loss hurts, no I am not happy about it, but kick AJ Green off the team??? Fire Mark Richt?? SC still has to play Alabama, Florida, Auburn and Arkansas. Bottom line is you lose the chance to control your own destiny, but you control what happens to your season from this point forward. Beat Arkansas this week, win the rest. Has anyone predicted anyone to go undefeated in the SEC besides Alabama? It’s not a given they won’t lose one either. Mark Richt AVERAGES 9-10 wins a year and some people want him gone? Be careful what u wish for. And no coach in their right mind kicks a Top 10 NFL Draft pick off the team for selling an Independence Bowl jersey. Think Florida would have done that to Tebow? Alabama to Ingram? Arkansas to Mallett? Tennessee to Eric Berry? Get real!

Todd you get a “pass” this year. Those poor down linemen on defense got whooped by SC offensive line. To the CB’s and Safeties have you no shame? Take out Rambo and put Brannen Smith back there and atleast you have a player with intensity and pride. Rambo you cant tackle a runner with your back or your legs. You seemed scared to tackle lattimore, i saw this with Deion Sanders when he played with the Falcons, he had all that speed but very poor tackling skills. Now Ronnie Lott of the 49ers would punish players. If you want to have someone to look up to that would be the man Lott.
Houston you played an outstanding game, as well as Gamble did and i would hope that someone would step up and be a leader on defense and do what the coaches are not doing and that is coming down hard on someone who plays defense like a highschooler. One of you need to take control of the defense and blast them for not making plays. As far as the offense goes Murray you need to step up and be more of a leader because after all its your offense and i know youre just a freshman but put yourself in that leadership role. Make those players play hard and expect results. I hate Florida but you’d see Tebow jumping down the throat of his players on the sidelines and pumping up his fans. It’s O.K. to get excited out there and it has positive results i assure you.

As a Dawg fan I think BoBO needs to go as the OC.The offense has not been as good as since Richt was calling the games. But your not going to get a good OC at this time of the year and no one is going to leave there job at this time of the year to come to Dawgs. So ethier Coach Richt needs to take the play calling back or we are stuck with COach Bobo calling plays the rest of the year.I’m a season ticket holder and I rather have Richt calling the plays than Bobo.As for the Deffense give Todd Gramtham some time he has changed alot for the better and he will do a great job but he can”t fix everything in a few months of spring football and the month of August and 2 games in the season.Yesterdays game would have been alot worse with Willie Martinez as the DC.They would have beat us Dawgs by 30 with Martinez as the DC.AS for this being coach Richts last year I Doubt it.He got about 2 more years to get the job right in my oppinion. But i do agree the new AD needs to put some preasure on Coach Richt To make some offense coaching changes.

The current personnel is not on campus to play the 3-4 defense. No big run stopper at nose. LB’ers are too small so will have to build the program as CG gets his recruits. I would expect that practice this week will concentrate on the fundamentals. Will play Arkansas close. Arkansas should be favored by 7 at a minimum. Still think UGA will have an OK year at 8 and 4. However if the other 3 losses are to UF, AU and Tenn there will be changes.

All of you Tech fans posing as UGA fans go back to your own board and figure out how your Heisman candidate led your team to a loss against the Kansas B team – and how’s YOUR D genius working out for you? He really stopped that Kansas team that scored nada against the North Dakota B team last week, right?
Our D shut them down in the second half – it will be fine – it’s a work in progress / Murray was without some key players – should not have cost us the game but if you think one player cannot make a difference then take away Lattimore from SC and see what you would have had. We will bounce back and be fine. SC plays some tough teams this year and could easily lose a few down the road.
Nobody is going to fire CMR (who owns Tech) and Bobo cannot hold on to the ball at the goal line – Ealey needs to step up and show us he’s back. We should have had several more scores – if you can fault anything you can say that Bobo was probably too cautious with Murray in his first road game. I think that will no longer be a problem – Murray showed he’s ready – turn hiom loose!@ GO DAWGS! TECH SUCKS! Nesbitt for Heismann! YEAH RIGHT!

Someone tell BACARRI RAMBO (#18) that he is going to have to buy a ticket to the game if wants to be a spectator.
I thought we left the shoulder and arm tackling behind when we got rid of CWM. Allowing long, time consuming series by SC was the reason for losing. When you have a team 3rd and long and allow a runner to blast up the middle, that will make for some long days and not many happy endings. The offense when they did get the ball had moments, and did move it on them, but dumb mistakes and head scratching play calling left them inept. I not going to start with the fire the entire staff bit as others have but this should be a wake up call to fix these problems with fundamentals, as they are coaching problems, or face the unemployment line.
