Bulldogs, Gamecocks aren’t far apart in the polls

ATHENS – Georgia-South Carolina games tend to be close, with seven of the past nine decided by seven points or fewer. This week’s polls portend a typically competitive contest Saturday in Columbia.

Both teams are ranked, and not far apart.

In the week’s Associated Press media poll, Georgia is No. 22 and South Carolina No. 24. In the USA Today coaches’ poll, Georgia is No. 19 and South Carolina No. 25.

“I would have to imagine another knockdown dragout in Columbia,” Georgia coach Mark Richt said Tuesday.

Three voters in the AP poll, by the way, ranked Georgia as high as No. 13.

The South Carolina football player was just SO excited. You see, he found out his sister was going to have a baby! The player told his coach, Steve Spurrier, that he didn’t know if he could stand it! I can’t wait to find out if I am going to be an Auntie or an Uncle.

I cautiously predict a beatdown of epic proportions by the Dawgs! ULL may have been out of our league but I haven’t seen the fire we displayed Saturday in an awful long time. These dawgs are for real.

Dawgs own the chickens. Nothing will change. I predict Spurrier will go through at least 5 visors by the end of the game.

Last week really only showed that both teams are better than the weak sisters of the world. I would be shocked if either team brings a beat down, but would welcome one if my Dawgs would like bring one and finally end the nailbiters that happen year after year between these two teams.

I can honestly say that I have ZERO idea on what to expect from either team, but I enjoy hearing the zealous fans on both sides claiming they can “feel” a certain outcome. Always worth a chuckle.

It is funny and sort of appalling to read comments from overwrought Dawg fans about how this weekend will be a wipeout or a massacre for UGA. I’m a fan, too but let’s get real: history says this series is close, and the performance of both terms last week suggests the same. If anything, SC was even more impressive against a better opponent than La-Lafayette. I’m worried; I want a win but I know it will be tough. Forget the baloney about one team or another expiring in the noon heat–this will be a seriously tough game. My prediction 20-13 Dawgs, but it could be reversed.

southern Miss. rang up over 400 yards on the chickens defense — not good. The Dawgs will do even better. USC does not have the defense they have had in the past and UGA has a defense that is on the way up – Dawgs win in a romp.

Every year we hear about how USC will romp all over UGA and every year UGA wins again. UGA is 7-1 over USC the last 8 years and unbeaten in Williams-Brice since 2000. This year will be no different.

This whole investigation stinks of WWII Germany. Why all the secrecy? Why can’t Adams & CMR talk, why shouldn’t they comment and why won’t they comment. Why is this investigation that affects a number of schools being done in secret? I can’t believe all you Sports Reporters are sitting on tour butts and not digging into this mess. If I was one of these players and I have not done anything wrong I would sue the Universities and the NCCA if possible. You can’t make a libelous accusation and then not be held accountable if the person you are accusing is innocent. I also don’t understand why Alabama gets special treatment with its players and everybody else suffers.

The heat will be a factor on both teams. If our offense can wear down Carolina defense in the heat it will be a rout. But then the same can be said of our defense, if we are out on the field longer than needed. Lets hope we come out of this game with no injuries. Go DAWGS

I venture to say that S.C. has a much more experienced Q.B. But they dont have backup linebackers near the talent of Marcus Dowtin. Christian Robinson must be the real deal or he would not be getting more playing time than Georgias second leading tackler from last year. Ealey should be the difference if (Big If ) we pressure the q. b and stop the run. just sayin..

Dont see Ga being held to 13 as one before me said because of feild position from the special teams and Ga happens to have an awesome punter. Spurriers worried about that pesky lil feild goal kicker to. Better watch that little # 6 that used to play QB. That boy can run and catch. Too many weapons in my eyes . Young d gets exploited somewhat so I see 31 to 24 Dawgs………

My takeaway from last weekend? The Dawgs played with intensity throughout the whole game. Solid D, confident Murray and special teams were off the charts. UF is faltering and will fall behind UGA & SC in the east. SC looked impressive in their opener but lack the “wow” factor. Garcia will be under pressure for most of the game on Sat. and will be a loose cannon. UGA will win by having a stout O-line, a better D, special teams, and a precise Murray. The Dawgs are the better team IMHO. Dawgs 21 – Chickens 10.

Both teams have quality players, but carolina has the experience qb with excellent tall wide receivers.

i hope i am wrong, but i am afraid AJ might be in some type of violation with NCAA.

if so, dawgs offense will not be the same, the shift will be with carolina and they will win.

SC is a different team in 2010

September 8th, 2010
8:14 am

SC is different squad this year vs 2009. In 09, they really did not have a quality back vs UGA, that I recall. In 2010 they have two and that Lattimore is the real deal. His co back is small like Carlton Thomas is but he too can fly. UGA will be busy out on the corners. Lattimore loves to catch it coming out of the SC backfield. Look out !!

UGA is also a very different squad in 2010 vs 2009. To start with, UGA has two solid backs running behind a very stellar line. We also have tons and tons of quality fullbacks in Chapas and Munzenmaier. Late in the game IF UGA has a lead that we want to “sit on” we should allow Fred Munzemaier to block ahead of Chapas and run, run and run some more. These two can grind on them like bulldozers. Really ………. they should be used more often.

Our kickers should be the net difference too. They could be it. Our special teams had better be ready. See LSU game in 2009, dang it.

UGA QB must play smart and dump that ball off, if his receivers are covered up and they need to come back to him for the ball, when that opp presents itself. I do not want him to run to avoid the sack and then get laid out trying to scramble for a first down. Needs to be very judicious in this aspect of his game.

Should be a dandy and should be very, very hot.

Go Dogs.

Lou Holtz has the record for the best 2 seasons at SC. Holtz turned SC around from 0-11 to 8-4. Then went 9-3 the next year. Spurrier has never gone 8-4 or 9-3 at SC. Holtz also had a 10-6 SEC record during those 2 seasons. Holtz can coach, anywhere. Spurrier can’t (Duke, SC, etc.).

Mike

September 8th, 2010

Spurrier went 7-9, and 5-11 with the Redskins. Couldn’t win there either.

Spurrier’s finished in the SEC East : 5th, 3rd, 4th, 3th, 4th.

Spurrier only did well at 1 school, Florida, where he had the best talent in the country. He’s failed miserably at Duke, Washing Redskins, and at South Carolina.

Richt’s finished in the top 10 19 times, 13 out of 15 at FSU and 6 out of 9 at Georgia. Spurrier? Not close.
