Richt (and Spurrier) impressed with Georgia defense
5:00 am September 6, 2010, by Tim Tucker
To kick off Georgia-South Carolina week, some notes from the coaches’ Sunday conference calls:
- Mark Richt still wasn’t talking about the A.J. Green situation, but he did have some things to say about another wide receiver who missed Georgia’s first game. Tavarres King was suspended for the opener but will play against South Carolina and will “definitely have an impact on this game,” Richt said.
- King “has been practicing extremely well,” Richt said. “He’s in great condition. He had a super summer. He seems to be a lot more confident than a year ago. He’s beginning to become more physical in the blocking aspect.”
- Richt liked a lot that he saw from the defense in its debut under Todd Grantham, including the welcomed fact that it had no penalties. “I thought our guys had some very good judgment on not taking a shot on a guy when he was on his way out of bounds,” Richt said. “Or after he let the ball go.”
- Georgia had five penalties against Louisiana-Lafayette, four on offense and one on special teams.
- The defense held La.-La to 14 yards rushing and 114 passing. More from Richt on the defense: “I think they seemed very locked in mentally. They played extremely hard. There were very few loafs . . . very few mental errors . . . and we tackled well as a team.”
- The defense’s glaring error, of course, was Bacarri Rambo allowing the Ragin’ Cajuns’ only score, a 60-yard TD pass. That brought quite a scolding from Grantham, who was generally animated on the sideline. “I was grinning,” Richt said of Grantham’s demeanor. “I liked it. I think the players liked it, too.” Even Rambo said he appreciated it.
- Richt was even more impressed when he saw Sanders Commings‘ fourth-quarter interception on film. “About as fine an interception as I’ve seen,” he said.
- Caleb King had only one carry in the second half Saturday. He “got dinged up just a little bit,” Richt said. “I don’t think it’s anything serious.”
- Linebacker Richard Samuel was on crutches before Saturday’s game to take pressure off an injured knee. Samuel was getting “close” to returning to action when the knee “just sort of swelled up on him,” Richt said. “We don’t think it’s anything long-term.”
- South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier said Georgia’s defense “looked well-prepared and positioned to play pretty much every snap except one.” You know which one.
- And then Spurrier got hyperbolic, saying Georgia “has maybe as good a pass rush as anybody in the country right now, the way it looked this past Saturday.”
- Spurrier, who had a free Saturday to watch football since his team played on Thursday last week, was asked if any teams across the country particularly impressed him. “You mean other than Jacksonville State?” he replied.
- Spurrier on what’s coming up Saturday in Columbia: “It’s extremely important and should be a heck of a game.”
- Have a great Labor Day, everyone.

Now to let you know I think this first thing is stupid the only reason I am here is because I had to get out of bed and go to the emergency room at 2:30 and had minor surgery and yes it only took less than 3hrs that in itself has got to be a first. I love all college football I even pull for tech (pain pills Kicking In) sometimes. But the DAWGS are my team. I not predicting an NC this year but I see one coming soon, I was impressed and proud to be a DAWG after saturdays game It looked like everyone has come to play this year I not going to predict the ga-fl game yet but I had rather be us right now GO DAWGS

The Dawgs this year are better coached, better prepared and more talented than any UGA team in recent memory. When everyone suspended gets back on the field, look out! Our QB’s will be good and the rest of the team, great. And, how about our kicking? What’s not to like? Most D’s get burned once a game anyway, and the offense overcomes it. We’ve got a great defense. Defense wins games, especially when our offense has the firepower it has and the depth. They will keep on learning the new system before the opponents can figure it out.

I liked what I saw just like everyone else, BUT I have 2 MAJOR concerns.
1. I think we will be open to getting beat deep against better receiver quarterback combos. We left our corners on a island. If we do not get constant pressure on the qb, then we are going to be toast. This has nothing to do to the blown coverage by Rambo.
2. Caleb King does not cut back. I do not know why our running backs cannot cutback. I think Ealey will change that but it seems like they run into a stuffed pile far too often when they have an opening just a few feet to the side of that pile.
With that said, this is what we will do well this year.
1. Take care of the football. Aaron Murray is very accurate. We just need to run and keep him upright to protect him. I do not thing we will have the untimely int like we did last year.
2. No one will be able to run against us this year. We are stout up the middle. I am quickly becoming a Christian Robinson fan. Talking about someone who has come out of no where. Look out for this kid.

Marlon Brown has not played because he – like most HS receivers comes in tall and skinny and prone to injury. It takes a year or two for these kids to beef up and be healthy and strong / not to mention the learning curve. As to playing a high school team comment – Florida did too and they didn’t look so good Saturday. No matter who you play it’s hard to put up the kind of D stats the Dawgs did Saturday – they were on the mark. Having said that – SEC teams are a whole different story….we’ll get a realistic look at what we have with SC. Of course, we’ll have Ealey, Ogletree, King and hopefully AJ BACK to!

This game doesn’t determine our season. SC is very good – not the usual SC. They have a tough schedule and might win 7 or 8, but they could win 9 to 11 in the ACC. I think the Dawgs will get it done, but if we don’t, we can still win any or all our games after SAT. Go Dawgs!!!

This team appeared coached and prepared especially on defense. The OL was disappointing in not creating more running room. We have got to be able to run the ball with consistency. The defense usually comes around quicker than the offense on teams so maybe the OL can produce. I would like to see them play with the intensity the defense showed. Kickoff coverage didn’t seem as good to me as Richt thought it was. Our kicking game on the other end is worth 10 or more points per game in field goals, field position. Don’t get too caught up in believing Murray won’t make mistakes. He likely will but he showed alot of poise and headiness in running the offense. The SC game always is tough and this year will probably be one of those when you better show up ready to play.

Lou Lafayette had very little pass rush and even Joe Cox was accurate when he wasn’t rushed. I will say that Murray can move around better than Joe did. The GameCrocks will be putting a big rush on Murrray and UGA’s o-line did break down at times. Murray can’t do all this scrambling against the GameCrocks or he won’t be out there long. Spurrier is going to do everything he can to knock Murrary out. There are two keys: #1) Can UGA get enough pass rush to prevent the deep ball and #2) Can the o-line protect Murray against a very good defense? Carolina has excellent WR’s – especially Jeffries. It looks like UGA is much better in pass coverage – though LL is not a SEC caliber offense by any means.

King runs best on toss sweeps….not between the takles like Ealey….Thomas should get more reps he looked good/shifty…think our special teams wins the game for us in SC!

Carolina will play their ass off against UGA. They always do. The teams are prety evenly matched this year in starting talent but UGA is deeper in backup talent. This will be a close game. Hope you’re right Dawg Grad ‘89, but I’m beginning to think it’s something else. In any event, I think the BCS will replace the NCAA as college football’s governing body by 2014 because of things like this and the BCS knowing how to make more money for the schools (which it’s really all about). Just my opinion.

been on the gator blogs this morning…..they are in full panic melt down mode……..they should have won 70-0 and had like 60 yards of offense in the first half……. i’ve been saying all summer great athletes don’t mean a great team. you can’t lose 73% of your offense production and just show up . After all the comments and jabs about Paul Johnson grabbing the freshman OT’s jersey between thumb and forefinger and yelling “Are You Stupid?” in his face after a false start penalty on TV last year, it it truly refreshing to to see the acceptance of Todd Grantham’s instant and intense correction style at Georgia. It takes discipline and constant reminders of how to play the game to become a great football team. I think Georgia is on the right path with their defensive coordinator.

I thought the defense looked pretty good, too…but keep in mind we were only playing a “thump-a-chump” tuneup game. Big difference in doing this vs. Louisiana-Lafayette and someone in the SEC.
One reason we had such a good pass rush was because we sure blitzed a lot. And you can get away with that against a team whose O-line is smaller and not as quick or as strong. But getting caught blitzing has sure KILLED us over the last several years. I don’t know whether we’ve telegraphed it, or just have had a poor middle area defensive scheme. But we have sure been hurt when we’d blitz and the opposing QB would either hit the “safety valve” receiver on a quick slant over the middle, or else…when the blitzers rushed too wide/deep….would tuck it and go. And then they’d run for the first down because the middle was wide, smack-ass open…not a defender in sight till they got to our deep secondary.
And let’s not forget that Steve Spurrier hates Georgia, and to beat us again would sell his soul…or whatever small portion of it that isn’t already under contract.

Keys to the game are pretty simple for anyone even mildly observant during the last game.
The much ballyhooed offensive line looked very average for what some have said “may be the best OL in the country”. After the first game – Not. They need to pick it up quite a few notches to be considered good. The running game sucked pretty much considering. And running backs have to be a concern also. King isn’t coming close to looking like a top notch SEC back. Only hope is Ealey. Depth at the RB position seems very weak. What happened to Malcome, a 4 star recruit from last year? Did he not cut it either? We seem really thin and under-talented at this position.

Dog fans,
don’t let these haters on this site get to you. They know that the dogs have been down the past 3 years, but they also have known that Georgia will be back. This fact scares the crap out of them. They jump on the uga blog and smack talk hoping it will have some effect on something. Gamec0ck Pete needs to remember that until South Carolina ever does anything worth talking about his posts are laughable at best. Tech fans (a.k.a) gator fans need to grow up. Tech fans remind me of the little kid that talks smack to the bully from across the street then run into the house to hide under there bed. Gator fans, I mean the real ones have the right to talk as much smack as they want they have been kicking our tails for 20 years, I don’t care what they did last game. I believe we will beat South Carolina this weekend because we have to. Yes I said we have to if we honestly think we will have a big year. I think the players and coaches know that, but I doubt they will come out and say it.

Chuck said that Nebraska beat LA LAF 55-0 last year. Think about it. Nebraska had Suh and the #1 scoring defense in the nation but still Chris Masson manage completed 59% of his passes.against them plus nebraska had all their starters on offense.
This year against the dawgs LA LAF has a more experience qb(Chris Masson) but he could only complete 33% of his passes against a new defense(3-4)
plus we have a red shirt freshman€(Aaron Murray) who by the way threw 3 tds and rush for 1 without his best weapons(AJ Green, Ealey and T King).
You people who are talking against the dawgs are going to get your feeling hurt in the long run.

uga mcrae- It may not have been top notch competition. The encouraging thing though…is that in the last couple of yrs. UGA didn’t seem to be able to stop anybody…including those kind of teams. UGA only had I believe 10 Ints. the entire yr. last yr., & had 3 in this game. Seemed to lose the field position battle consistently every game last yr., but not so last Sat. They also seemed to be heavily penalized, but not in this game. Soft competition, yes, but I definitely think those are encouraging signs. UGA hasn’t lacked the talent. Of course they’ll need to do it against better competition. Also remember, Sturdivant should return as well, & he’s thought to be peotentially the best O-Lineman.

Tim, that’s good news on Tavares King, cause I don’t think we are going to get a ruiling on AJ by Saturday. I hope I’m wrong. With AJ automatically drawing double coverage, or the free safety cheating over on him in zone coverage, he opens up the field so well for T. King, Charles, White, Durham, even Caleb coming out of the backfield. Cross your fingers. That 3 point spread means nothing – still essentially a pick’em – but that number will move if AJ is cleared. I hope Adams throws any smidgen of political weight he has around and gets this resolved this week. He has to be good for something.

I honestly fell we can beat S.C. with or without Green, but at the same time would feel much better having him on the field. We need to make some big plays early and get the crowd toned down a bit. Ealey has to have a big game for 100 or more. I agree with the post earlier that we cannot assume we can put this game on the shoulders of a first year starting quaterback. Please dogs enough with the dropped passes, two in the bread basket last sat. one in the endzone. This will cost us games in the SEC if we do not get it corrected. Dropped passes are a problem for us year after year along with the penalties and turn overs. I believe strongly that we have a special team, but it is going to tale some time for our program and fans to get the confidents back we had in 02 and 05. Our program slipped down the mountain and now we are on our way back up. I love coach Richt, it saddens me when I see dog fans bashing him. He is one of the best and he will do what it takes to get us back. The dogs will have to attack for 4 qtrs sat, on offence and defence. We need to get S.C. on the ropes early and knock them out late 3rd or early 4th qtr. I don’t think we want to get into a final minutes situation at S.C.

When Spurriers team gets over 100 yards rushing his record is 27-4. Over 25 point 24-5. Their defence is usually good. Gilmore can really shut down a reciever.
Hope everyone can play. I would like to see Green vs. Jeffries. Jeffries has great numbers and he got a first down evertime he touched the ball the last game.
I think UGA should be favored by 6. A young qb scares Vegas. SC is not going to have their leading tackler in Shag Wilson. Spurries says he is the qb of the D. They will be without Culliver and Auguste big hitter in the secondary. South Carolina loss on defence is the difference. UGA 31-24

This game will come down to personnel and depth. UGA is two deep on the offensive line and will be able to run the ball as the game progresses. USC is paper-thin on the offensive line and Grantham will rotate fresh players into the game. Eventually it will wreak havoc on Garcia who is pretty good but not under pressure. UCoon destroyed him with a pass rush and pressure DB’s. And UGA now has UConn’s DB coach as well as Grantham’s 3-4!!!

With my binocs, the holes were there for CK and he just hesitates for a second and that one second costs him a chance to gain yards. CT is far more decisive as a runner. CK will not win ballgames for the team. WE is the back with CT #2. CT needs to improve on pass protect. Get CK out of there and onto scout team. Offensive line did well. They should not be expected to hold their blocks forever for CK. Tell CK to trust his line and run. Ga over SC in a close one.

I wonder if any of the books about UGA football include the perspective of someone speaking for the late Jan Kemp? The perspective that “student” athletes like Lindsay Scott were playing years without taking college level courses? That the “proudest” moment of the football program was earned by players who never earned a single college credit?
Dawgtards love to return to 1980, but their memories are really short when it comes to remembering an earthshaking event that happened a few years later that showed the world what a joke UGA athletes were and what a scam artist their beloved Vince Dooley was (and is). So for all those dawgtards with short memories or who think their athletes are actually taking real courses and trying to graduate, here’s the quote that broke the trial wide open and showed what a sleezebag Dooley is:
O. Hale Almand Jr., a lawyer for the defense, offered a justification for the favorable treatment accorded the athletes, citing a hypothetical player. “We may not make a university student out of him,” he told the jury, “but if we can teach him to read and write, maybe he can work at the post office rather than as a garbageman when he gets through with his athletic career.”
Nothing has changed at UGA, they just do a slightly better job of keeping things quiet, but that’s hard to do when 42 of your player-thugs have been arrested, isn’t it?

Einsteindawg…you may have reason to be nervous. As it seems, since the AJC is choosing to give UGA a pass on this particular subject, Mr Green has told something of an untruth to the NCAA. And he got stone cold busted.
If you think Green was held out because the NCAA pushed his case to the back of the pile, then I have some ocean property in Nebraska to sell you. Green made a big mistake, and he got busted. If he were innocent, the NCAA would have cleared him to play last week. Dez Bryant anyone?

AJ Green did something wrong! If he didnt he would have been allowed to play! I am so sick of these Georgia players doing things to jepordize the state of the program. If he sits SDat against SC you better believe he was at that party in Miami and probably has been involved in some other bad things as well. These players in Athens are embarrassing the program and they arent doing anything special on the field to begin with. They are going to need all of their weapons to beat SC this weekend. I actually thing Murray will play well, but I will say that this offensive line will need to run block better. they didnt open the holes enough. Finally, I am glad to see a guy like Grantham getting in those guys faces when they screw up like Rambo did on that one play. I am sure they have a lot of blitz packages ready for SC.

Finally, the thing that concerns me is that this game could come down to coaching and Spurrier is obvious a btter play caller than Bobo, but Grantham can go toe to toe with SC d coordinator.

As a program we deserve all the embarrassment and commentsour rivals are giving us. This year has been a disaster off the field. UGA football has become a laughingstock around the Southeast which is hard to do with all the other teams with problems. Much jealousy/envy of UGA as on all blogs about the Dogs. We run this state.
Jan Kemp exposed some irregularities in the UGA athletic program. The university manned up and accepted the consequences, going beyond the call of duty by raising academic standards above those of many of our rivals. As a result, we lost some talented athletes to other SEC/ACC schools.
UGA alumni can be proud of the academic, as well as athletic prowess. Top 20 Public University, elevated rating by Parade survey, 132 SEC titles, NCs in 8 sports.
Its great to be a Georgia Bulldog!

Wait, didnt tech play some scrub team as well last weekend? Im sure they didnt like that defense one bit since that 3-4 matches up with their offense a little too well, also the DBs werent playing 3-5 yards off their men every play so there goes their timing pass routes.

re: Your 11:30
We blitzed just about every third down when it was more than four yards or so…even the announcers mentioned it, and pointed out that Georgia intended to do that a lot this season. What game were YOU watching?
I personally like to see us blitz and be aggressive, but it has hurt us the last few years. David might be right that we’re telegraphing it too much, but opposing teams…especially Florida and Alabama…have hurt us when we blitzed on third and long.

I was actually paying UGA a compliment on the lack of penalties and was sreally wishing UGA luck against USC. I would prefer both GT and UGA to be ranked and doing really well come clean ole fashioned hate and have the game mean something more than bragging rights. That would be good for both programs and though I don’t care for UGA I can look past the hate to see what’s good for the team and national outlook on Ga. football.

About 5 years back GT had to forfeit a ton of basketball AND football games due to cheating on grades and now …………The Tarheels are going through the same deal. Cheaters.
Tareheel is the name given the Civil War NC soldiers, when one of the Confed Generals told them that if they continued to run like yellow bellies, that he would shoot them. After that, they held onto their position like they were stuck in tar.
Now? Their entire football program is stuck in SEC laughter.

This team looked solid and well coached. Arron Murray seems to be an ideal college QB; one that can make plays scarmbling as well as throwing. The offense looked solid and it was without Sturdivant, both starting wide receivers (Green and the guy Richt bragged on), and Ealey.
Few penalities and the interception was the receiver’s fault.

Yeah yeah our D looked fairly stout but that kid Gracia or Garcia has HUGE potential and Spurrier has been schooling him for ALL these years now. We just better watch out and we just BETTER be ready for those guys. And ya know we’ve gotta travel up there and it’s a noon kickoff and I just don’t know if our fans can be up there and ready to go so darn early. WILLIE AT OKLAHOMA!
Did anyone happen to catch Willie’s first game as the Secondary Coach at OU? The highlights of that game was a scary flashback to what UGA fans had to endure over the last several years. The Utah State QB had 341 total passing yards and 2 TDs. Utah State almost came back and beat OU. The highlights on ESPN feature one touchdown pass where the OU defender was badly out of position. Again, sound familiar?
Thank you Lord in Heaven for giving us Todd Grantham.
OU fans, obviously Stoops did not look at Willie’s resume before hiring him. Your only hope is that he reacts faster than Richt did at UGA. Otherwise get use to your D-Backs being 10 yards away from the play and opponents having wide open receivers. Get use to blowing close games and giving up an average of 30pts per game.
My only regret is that Florida did’nt hire Willie, because he would make Aaron Murray lookn like a Heisman Candidate (similar to the Utah State QB).

I sure hope Spurrier ends up being ‘the old ball ‘couch’ (thanks for that one ‘biddawgfan’) this weekend…in that I mean let’s give him reasons to be looking forward to laying back on his ‘couch’, and wondering what happened. Then again he’s done it to us so many times over the years I can never be confident…and given that SC always seems to give us a hard time, particularly in Columbia, I’m not making any bets and for sure I wouldn’t be giving any points.
Once again I think back to that time in ‘95 when a stoic Tom Osborne was asked by the sideline blondie/mic carrier at halftime of the NC game between Nebraska and UF, where Neb was leading by some five or six touchdowns, ‘Coach, you seem to be handling Coach Spurrier’s and the Gator’s offensive schemes pretty well, why is that?’…to which Osborne deadpanned and headed straight to the locker room, ‘It’s not about schemes, it’s about athletes!’…so remember fans, it’s not about our defensive scheme, it’s about the guys we’ve got playing it and how they’re coached…then again, Spurrier probably has the best collection of athletes he’s had at SC, so it should be a good’un.

South Carolina wins this week, 31-21.
Green has likely played his last game, so stop thinking about him.
It’s kind of sad to see all the Dawg fans getting so excited this year (just like the year before, the year before that, etc.). How long is it going to take for UGA fans to realize that UGA is simply no longer relevant in the SEC? In the national picture, UGA isn’t even a blip on the radar, and hasn’t been since the preseason #1 ranking two years ago.
Sit back and be grateful for the seven or eight wins you’ll get every year. Coaching genius Mark Richt may take you to 8-4 or even 9-3 occasionally, but Florida will still win the SEC, meaning no BCS bowls and no top 10 final ranking. Most years, UGA will be very lucky to finish in the top 25, and only after a big bowl win over a nobody opponent.
It’s a different world now, and Dawg fans need to adjust their expectations downward to reflect reality.
Unfortunately nothing is going to change until UGA changes its mediocre coaching. That’s where the difference is, and that’s why everyone outside Dawgtard Nation just laughs at Dawg fans getting so excited year after year about what a great recruiting class UGA gets. It doesn’t matter how many blue chip high school players go to UGA, they simply don’t get the coaching they would get at Florida or Alabama, to name two schools whose programs are far ahead of UGA. And that’s not going to change as long as Mark Richt is in Athens.
Get your heads out of the sand and face reality. And mediocrity and irrelevance.
And watch the red panties falling from the sky.
Creed

Serious Dawg fans need to start organizing and demanding that Richt be fired. Otherwise, sports writers will be asking the same question this time a year from now.
Richt represents mediocrity. Saban and Meyer represent excellence and championships. Richt simply isn’t in their class, nor will he ever be. Richt would have to be incredibly lucky to win the division, and the odds against him winning the SEC championship would be at least 50:1.
Those are the simple facts, and there’s no amount of enthusiasm or cheerleading or Top 5 recruiting classes that can get around it.
As they say in poker, “Read ‘em and weep.”

In years past many very good and very talented UGA teams did not look half this good in tune-up games. Yes, the offense was not exactly a well-oiled machine, but when has a Georgia defense ever looked as good, even against a patsy? I was VERY impressed with the coverage, which excepting one play was as good as it can possibly get, the pass rush (some serious speed and athletic ability up front), the pursuit and the discipline. Admittedly, these were not pro-prospect opponents, but a Richt-Bobo offense teamed with a legitimate defense would make for a very fun season, and likely a trip to the SEC Championship game. This week will tell us all we need to know.

The upcoming South Carolina game betting line is a really good test of the national perception of the University of Georgia as a football power. The opening line is favorable, as South Carolina doesn’t get the typical 3 point home field advantage (the line is 2-1/2 points for Carolina). As that line shrinks as Saturday approaches, that will indicate that bettors around the country are putting their money on the Bulldogs.

Grantham, for PRESIDENT!!!!!!!! Garcia, will be running for his life from Coach Todd’s hounds all afternoon!! He will be sacked no less than three times and rushed at least 10-12 times. It should be noted that coach spurrier will allow all suspended players, particularly TE Sonders(sp?) return for practice immediately, and be ready for the game! Since dawgtards seem to love living in the past, how about remembering the Jan Kemp trial, which exposed UGA and Vince Dooley for the jokes that they were. My favorite quote from the trial was this one:
The best thing about the trial was that it completely killed Vince Dooley’s shot at Congress, since he was exposed as a fraud and a cheat during the trial. Make no mistake – Dooley knew everything that was going on.
Nothing has changed in the almost three decades since the trial. If anything, the abuses are even worse. Exhibit #1: Jim Harrick and son.
Today the players are even more illiterate and felonious and, well, just plain stupid, as evidenced by their arrest records and record number of penalties. Even Vince Dooley couldn’t have controlled this mob, much less Mark Richt. And now even the most recent AD was a drunk debaucherer.
There’s a reason why UGA is known as The Cesspool of the South.
And perennial winner of the Fulmer/Richt Cup.

I think the Dogs should open with Jax State, but then again, they are way too competitive for a program who seeks easy openers at home and gets all excited when drilling a local HS team.
Dogs have practically the easiest schedule in D-1, so if they go 8-4 or 9-3, which is the prediction, then they will continue to have that mediocre label.
After watching the quick defensive attack and offensivness explosiveness of Boise, there is no doubt that they would crush the Dogs and just about anything their path. Boise is loaded with California top-talent and the reason the UT finally quit attempting to open with Pac-10 schools…UT got tired of getting waxed in their openers.

1. Florida has dominated your program over the past 20 years, and regardless of what you attempt to say about Florida, their titles are more and more recent than your lousy 1980 title, which is your only title in 117 years. Second, you are right, Tebow single-handedly beat the pure living sh#$ out of your program, along with Danny Wuerfell, Doug Johnson, and Chris Leak, so there are plenty more lined up behind Tebow to kick your ass, again.
2. You did defeat Boise State years ago, but my point is that you would get crushed by this current squard. You are the typical Bulldog Idiot who lives in the past and can only talk about what happened in the past.
3. You might get by South Carolina this weekend, but if you don’t I am sure the excuses will start flying Saturday night and you will bury your head in the sand, again.
You cannot put your money where your mouth is, because shooting off your mouth is cheap.

Love ‘em or hate ‘em. Spurrier is good for football. The SEC would be boring without him in the coaching ranks. The man knows football and I believe we and the media like to concentrate on some of his remarks because we know he’s going to tell the truth and not hold punches. He’s good for our kids that play for him. I would have Spurrier coaching my son any day if the opportunity was there. A greater man than he’s ever been a football coach and he’s a darn good football coach. This wasn’t that hard to say coming from a DAWG fan.

Played many sports, including football, but the difference is I grew up with folks respected UGA with players like Ben Zambizi and Scott Werner, not all the trash talking thugs you have now. Seeing your team strut around the field against Agnes Scott Girls School is a total embarassment to the state of Georga and proves this program has no class.
Let’s talk Alabama 2008…any takers? You know the night the lights went out in Georgia.

JD, good coment and I agree. If eveyone loves you, then you are not winning, if you are winning, then everyone hates you.
Since DawginLex likes to talk about the past, then let’s discuss UGA and Florida 1995.
What about September 2008 vs. Alabama?
What about the loss to Vandy for homecoming?
There is just so much we can discuss?

The mighty and powerful SEC……Jax State….say no more. The SEC is made up of 1 team, Alabama and there is no doubt you will have to go through Tuscaloosa for the national title this year, but I can clearly recall how Utah handed Alabama their helmets about 2 years ago in the Sugar Bowl…sweet!
Best focus on teams and not conferences, because Boise could clean the clock of just about any team out there, including the Tide. Their defense is fast, swarming and knocks you into next week. More importantly, they bring discipline.

What was up with our running game Saturday? King didn’t appear to break too many runs Saturday. I know that UL-Laf had the LB’s converted from DB’s so they might have been a little quicker to the line but still I didn’t see any gaping holes up there with all the experience we supposedly have. Maybe we were just holding back a little? I hope. Otherwise everybody looked good Saturday. Few penalties. I think Spurrier will enjoy picking the defense apart this weekend.

Florida has hammered you 17 of the last 20 games, what sort of smack talk could you bringing from this sort of history? Meyer could start his Labrador at QB and Florida would still beat you like a dog!!!
Remember: someone in Athens popped off to Spurrier and said no team had ever hung 50 on the Dogs between the hedges. Well, 1995, Florida hung 52 on you and did the same the year before. Now which Florida QB did you dominate in the last 20 to 25 years? Yep, none of them.

Interception idiot says he grew up with Zambiasi and Werner? He can’t even spell Woerner.
Spurrier backed into his title after getting throttled by FSU. He shouldn’t have been allowed to play for the title. The other 2 have been won with Tebow.
No Tebow=No title
You say Boise would whip UGA and I’m supposed to believe you just because they beat an ACC school?
Facts are in 2005, not 1980, Boise ventured into Athens with the same crap being said then that is being said today and we handed them their rear ends 48-13. They play 9 cupcakes in a crap league. They venture OOC to play one or two decent teams. Their last “savior” coach is about to get fired at Colorado.
You are too dam stupid to argue with.

I suppose Athens still refuses to count the 2 losses in 1943 and 1944 to GT? Athens is nothing more than a spineless chickensh#$ school who cannot man up to losses, only when they squeak out a win against a D-1AA team.

DawginLex, first of all, I did not want to waste the time attempting to look up names. Second, if Boise is such loser program and an easy conference, then open with them next year and put your money where your mouth is.
Second, you are just too plain retarded and have no idea about your program. How many Heismans do you have and name the players?

mikebobo17int, so you are indeed a fl gator fan? Is that correct? And, your obsession with Georgia is inspiring. And for your info., a takedown is a humiliating vicious sack in the backfield for a loss. An old defensive coordinator of mine used to use the phrase. By the way, I grew up in the era of which you speak. I also remember Deion Sanders at FSU stealing jewelry and not missing a game for Bobby Bowden. I was living in Florida at the time near Tallahassee. No college team is clean or has ever been totally. It is just which one is being singled out. Yes, an USC in California was “squeaky clean” until Pete Carroll left, right? Wrong. Florida, has its “Brandon Spikes” too. But, you obviously would be shocked to discover any such news! You might be in denial. We aren’t at Georgia. I hope that we are able to manage the distractions. By the way, were you proud of your gators last weekend?

I agree with you on the Spikes issue and other related players with issues. There are problems with all programs and the reason Carroll left USC.
Not a real Gator fan, and yes they have holes, but they also have a superior coaching staff who will bring them back in line. Money still rides on Gainesville in November.

Hey interception idiot,
Since you are so into “recent” history,
What is spurrier’s record vs Richt since moving to SC?
Yet you predict another “beatdown” despite the “fact” that the last 5 games have been decided by 7 points or less.
Who is the retard?
I need to stop and follow the advice of Tide Rising:
Don’t argue with an idiot. He will take you down to his level and beat you with experience.

mikebobo17int, I believe that the November outcome will be evident after the first five games of the season for both programs. I still did not like the meyers peeing on Georgia with his stunt” time out” and tebow being left in until the end of the game routine.. We, the faithful, remember. Unfortunately, Coach Mark Richt won’t retaliate in kind if given the opportunity. That is just who he is. I don’t agree with his approach but I admire his convictions. I am looking forward to watching our SEC with pride.

Here are my takeaways from Saturday… I was at the game:
1. Murray exceeded my expectations.
2. Caleb King underperformed. He didn’t have problems “cutting back”, he had problems breaking to the outside, where there was room! Thank heavens Ealey is coming back. Message to Crowell… come to UGA and get instant PT.
3. There’s a new Sheriff in town and his name is Todd Grantham! Guys were flying to the ball and the tackling was flawless. No stupid penalties either. Can you imaging TJ Stripling and Jarvis Jones next year??? Holy smokes, this D is going to be insane.
4. We have the best kicking game in America, bar none!
5. Bobo called a great game!!! Nice and conservative, allowing Murray to get his confidence. Just what the doctor ordered.
6. I can’t stand Georgia fans who are late to games and leave early. You people are pathetic. Why spend the money to come to a game if you aren’t going to watch the whole thing. Totally lame A-holes… support the team correctly or give your tickets to someone else who cares!!!
