ATHENS – Around midnight Monday, Georgia sold the last ticket to Saturday’s football opener against Louisiana-Lafayette.
That means the Bulldogs’ streak of consecutive home sellouts has reached 58, extending into a 10th season.
The last Georgia home game not to sell out was the Nov. 25, 2000, game against Georgia Tech.
Tickets had been available to Saturday’s opener because Louisiana-Lafayette relinquished most of its allotment. The Ragin’ Cajuns were contractually entitled to 4,500 tickets but wound up selling 490, leaving UGA with the other 4,010 to sell.
Georgia currently has no tickets available to any of this season’s home games in 92,746-seat Sanford Stadium, although it’s possible that some could become available if returned by an opponent later in the season. Opponents can return tickets from their allotments until three weeks before a game.
The Bulldogs’ opener kicks off at 12:21 p.m. Saturday.
Note: At noon today, and each Tuesday during the season, Mark Richt will hold a news conference to discuss the week’s game. Please follow @ajcuga on Twitter for instant updates.

Sadly this show the love for Richt is waning. When was the last time we had to run ads to get our product sold out? Teams have always returned some tickets each year but with around 5+ million fans in the state we have easily sold out our stadium. The warning bells are ringing for Richt. Win this year in a down year overall for the SEC or pressure really begins to force him out. The Martinez bashers will become Richt bashers.

Don’t look for much from my Dawgs Saturday. Just the basic defensive sets kind of similar to the GDay game. We are saving it all for South Carlina! We will not give the ole ball coach a week to prepare for our new defense which is fast and nasty as I am being told.
ps… The last scrimmage held Justin Houston did not play much because Mike Bobo wanted to be able to run plays without Houston blowing them up every down. Barring injury, Houston will be defensive player of the year in the SEC. you heard it here first my friends.

Hey ‘ragun cagun’ – or whoever you are, cause you ain’t from Southwest Lou-sianna – Shoot, all of my coona$$ relatives know how to spell Ragin Cajun cause they are. Of course you may have been just taking a little license with your name, but in my experience they, at least know that. Giving you the benefit of the doubt, you say you and yours are obnoxious…I say that’s the last thing these folks are. Have fun, raise hell, kick and holler, but they’re only obnoxious to people that don’t know how to have a good time. All you need to be able to do to enjoy their company, and to gain their respect, is to be able to drink whiskey and beer and eat boudin…oh, and be able to go duck huntin’ and come back with some. Trust me, if you run across any of these folks tailgatin’ this Saturday, offer ‘em a drink and somethin’ to eat, welcome ‘em to Athens and if they like you, you may be in line for one of the greatest honors that part of the country can bestow – ‘Honorary CoonA$$’.

This is NOT big news for UGA, but you know it kills the bugs…The fact that we hadn’t sold out was one of the only things they had to talk about, and now we’ve taken that away, too.
Nerds, this means that this decade, we have averaged nearly 91,000 in the stands for every home game. It would take at least 2 of your home games against quality opponents to get that many bees in the stands.
Gotta laugh! The insects are funny and predictable.

Just like every other year, they will ALL be sold out. Even Idaho St. (There might be some empty seats but it will be sold out)
Tech probably won’t sell out any games this year…not even their conference games.

UGA folks can brag all you want to about beating Tech in football most years, and that’s perfectly fair. What’s also fair is to point out that with a history of Jan Kemp (Vince Dooley days), Jim Harrick, and now Damon Evans, UGA is truly “The Cesspool of the South,” and is richly deserving of that title. No one outside of Georgia has any respect for UGA or its athletic department, and that is a fact. It has been said many times: “Tech people are proud of their school, Georgia people are proud of their team.” What a legacy to be proud of!
UGA fans can now return to your mobile home parks and resume waiting for your unemployment checks.

Indala, I’ve already told you once before — your school has had just as many scandals as UGA. But, when it comes to respect for the athletic programs — GA Tech has absolutely zero respect across the entire nation for one primary reason. GA Tech has only one NCAA team championship in it’s entire history. For the last two decades UGA averages about that many every year. For a school as old as GA Tech, with its tradition and Atlanta recruiting base — that has got to be the most abysmal sports record in all of Division I sports. Tech is a laugher to everyone in the sports world. I wouldn’t doubt it if Wichita State has more NCAA championships than Tech, I know they have more baseball championships.

So, if it’s a sellout, how ’bout broadcasting it on real TV instead of that stupid ESPN 3 cable/internet extortion? It isn’t right to limit the fans’ access to games just because they don’t have access to a particular cable company.

ULL, An apology in advance — the Dawgs will not be intentionally running up the score on Saturday. Having said that, the Dawgs do have an obligation to AJ to let him showcase his talents and establish himself as the Heisman Trophy front runner this year. Once again, sorry about the score but he is just an exceptional athlete — the best in the country at his position.

Mike on Lake Hartwell………..the DirecTV program guide shows it on channel 664, but I’m not sure if that’s PPV or part of the sports package. Hope that helps.

Funny, that while reading this headline the ad at the top of the page is for Tech tix and says “brace for impact”. What do they mean? Brace for the impact that Tech still has tix availible? Now that’s funny right there, I dont care who you are.

58 consecutive sellouts? Big deal; hard to believe that little nugget even warranted a mention in an article, much less an article all by itself. Meanwhile, arch-rival Florida, with the 3rd longest streak in the nation, has 130 consecutive sellouts going into the 2010 season… dating back to 1989. Only Nebraska with 305 and Notre Dame with 213, have longer streaks.

Well this is an “Atlanta” based article. Granted I do see a lot of bandwagon UF fans in the area, do you really expect them to talk about the jort wearers ticket streak?

I wish we could sell out ONE, just ONE of our games this season. Somehow the 4 Hot Dogs & Cokes promotion is not working at the Joke By Coke!

OK OK enough of the Bug Bashing for not selling out the Joke by Coke for the OPENING DAY of football season..they have a valid reason…I said reason not excuse…Saturday is Dragon Con…ask a Bug to choose between supporting his football team over a chance to be seen with his light saber..and well you know what they will pick every time..and if you don’t believe me just check out the empty seats at the Joke by Coke on Saturday…but again its not their fault after all Dragon Con is the center of the Buggish Universe.

UGA Fans,
Congrats on your 58th consecutive sellout! Perhaps someday you can match the 305 sellouts and counting by Nebraska that dates back to 1962!
Hope the Dawgs and Huskers both have a great year in 2010! Thank God College Football is finally here! Go BIG RED!

Bushwacker and Jason:
Wouldn’t it be great if the AJC put something on this site detailing all the different ways a Dawg fan could watch the game on television, satelite, cable, pay per view whether in the state of Georgia or outside of it? And also listed all the ways that a fan could watch or hear the game over the internet?
Sadly, with just a few days to go, I don’t think this is going to happen.
Thanks Again

Is that the same Nebraska that fled the Big 12 because Texas wasn’t playing nice and taking the spotlight? The same one that had 70 points hung on it by Kansas?

Headline got me thinking – has GT EVER had a sell out when UGA wasn’t the opponent? I mean I’m sure it’s tough to sell what 50 thousand tickets but you would think they could do it every once in a while.

I’m glad real Yellow Jackets can’t change their colors and hide behind disquises (e.g. fake names on here). Makes ‘em easier to kill.
