UGA opener is sold out, extending streak to 58 games

ATHENS – Around midnight Monday, Georgia sold the last ticket to Saturday’s football opener against Louisiana-Lafayette.

That means the Bulldogs’ streak of consecutive home sellouts has reached 58, extending into a 10th season.

The last Georgia home game not to sell out was the Nov. 25, 2000, game against Georgia Tech.

Tickets had been available to Saturday’s opener because Louisiana-Lafayette relinquished most of its allotment. The Ragin’ Cajuns were contractually entitled to 4,500 tickets but wound up selling 490, leaving UGA with the other 4,010 to sell.

Georgia currently has no tickets available to any of this season’s home games in 92,746-seat Sanford Stadium, although it’s possible that some could become available if returned by an opponent later in the season. Opponents can return tickets from their allotments until three weeks before a game.

The  Bulldogs’ opener kicks  off at 12:21 p.m. Saturday.

Note: At noon today, and each Tuesday during the season, Mark Richt will hold a news conference to discuss the week’s game. Please follow @ajcuga on Twitter for instant updates.

I got my Georgia State tickets in the mail: front and center on the Home side! I don’t take sides in the UGA-GT rivalry, I’m just ready for long off-season to end.

(And no one has had a longer off-season than Georgia State!)

GO PANTHERS!!!!

UGA actually has no shows at their stadium? And had to advertise their tickets? God Georgia is a crappy sports state. That never happens at Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Tennessee, etc.

If you want to see a Heisman Trophy then make the drive to Athens!

ScottBravesFan – I’m not sure what you are smoking but I got Auburn away tickets for the first time since the 90’s. The only way they were offered to me is because Auburn could not sell them. I was also offer away SC tickets which I declined. Before you show your stupidity on a blog, you should check your facts.

Sorry pal, I go to Lafayette at least 5 times a year for work and know quite a few folks from the school. Most of the people traveling here will be family of the players and coaches and a few boosters and students. I am sure they will be some of the nicest guests we have had in Sanford. All I ask is for the Georgia fans to be as nice and hospitable as we can and welcome them to Athens. I am sure they have had a long trip.

Indala, I’ve already told you once before — your school has had just as many scandals as UGA. But, when it comes to respect for the athletic programs — GA Tech has absolutely zero respect across the entire nation for one primary reason. GA Tech has only one NCAA team championship in it’s entire history. For the last two decades UGA averages about that many every year. For a school as old as GA Tech, with its tradition and Atlanta recruiting base — that has got to be the most abysmal sports record in all of Division I sports. Tech is a laugher to everyone in the sports world. I wouldn’t doubt it if Wichita State has more NCAA championships than Tech, I know they have more baseball championships.

So, if it’s a sellout, how ’bout broadcasting it on real TV instead of that stupid ESPN 3 cable/internet extortion? It isn’t right to limit the fans’ access to games just because they don’t have access to a particular cable company.

ULL, An apology in advance — the Dawgs will not be intentionally running up the score on Saturday. Having said that, the Dawgs do have an obligation to AJ to let him showcase his talents and establish himself as the Heisman Trophy front runner this year. Once again, sorry about the score but he is just an exceptional athlete — the best in the country at his position.

58 consecutive sellouts? Big deal; hard to believe that little nugget even warranted a mention in an article, much less an article all by itself. Meanwhile, arch-rival Florida, with the 3rd longest streak in the nation, has 130 consecutive sellouts going into the 2010 season… dating back to 1989. Only Nebraska with 305 and Notre Dame with 213, have longer streaks.

OK OK enough of the Bug Bashing for not selling out the Joke by Coke for the OPENING DAY of football season..they have a valid reason…I said reason not excuse…Saturday is Dragon Con…ask a Bug to choose between supporting his football team over a chance to be seen with his light saber..and well you know what they will pick every time..and if you don’t believe me just check out the empty seats at the Joke by Coke on Saturday…but again its not their fault after all Dragon Con is the center of the Buggish Universe.

Congrats on your 58th consecutive sellout! Perhaps someday you can match the 305 sellouts and counting by Nebraska that dates back to 1962!

Bushwacker and Jason:

Wouldn’t it be great if the AJC put something on this site detailing all the different ways a Dawg fan could watch the game on television, satelite, cable, pay per view whether in the state of Georgia or outside of it? And also listed all the ways that a fan could watch or hear the game over the internet?

Sadly, with just a few days to go, I don’t think this is going to happen.
