Police report: Ealey was driving teammate Hamilton’s car
From AJC correspondent Andy Johnston in Athens:
Georgia running back Washaun Ealey was driving teammate Jakar Hamilton’s car when he hit a UGA Parking Services pickup truck in the East Campus Parking Deck at 3:19 a.m. Friday, according to the incident report obtained from UGA Police today.
Ealey was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Impala owned by Margaret Hamilton when he hit a 2008 Ford Ranger owned by the university. According to the report, three Parking Services employees confronted Ealey at the time of the incident, but he left the scene before police could arrive.
The police determined the car belonged to Hamilton and arrested Ealey. He was charged with hit-and-run of a parked vehicle and driving on a suspended license. Ealey was released Friday morning.
Ealey, Georgia’s leading rusher with 717 yards as a freshman in 2009, has been suspended one game. Hamilton is a junior defensive back.

Pat May 20 Ealy ticketed for speeding and no tag. July 13th missed court date to show proof of tag, insurance, and pay speeding fine. Ealy didn’t show to court. I am the next Hershel. I don’t get no Ticket or Fine. Don’t you cops know who I am? Aug. 13th warrent issued for failure to appear & license suspended. Aug 27th out all night and hit-n-run on a State vehicle (had to hide the pot, take a shower to wash off the smell, and change clothes) in his roommates car after he was told by coaches not to drive and he said he wouldn’t. The kid doesn’t fear the police or the coaches, but he just has to miss a game against a high school team. I said it before and I will say it again. Don’t punish Ealey. Let all the starters play the sirst series on both O and D. then make the players walk to the showers. Have them change in to street clothes and sit in the stands. Let only redshirt freshmen, walk-ons, and scout team players play the rest of the game against La. Laf. If that doesn’t make to good players get the bad players in-line nothing ever will. It worked in the Military.

that deck is designed tight, with not much space to manuever, and the UGA trucks think they can park wherever they want. it’s so easy to bump another car in that deck and it happens all the time (my daughters car has more than a few dings from that deck). big thing was not paying his speeding ticket. that said my son is a 20 year old div. 1 athlete at a Georgia public university and if his licsense gets suspended for not paying a speeding ticket, and he gets arrested, it will be MY fault for not taking care of him, even though he is a not a minor, he is a student, and is my dependant.

Genius, Chad. A three game suspension for a traffic violation that did not involve alcohol or injury to another person. Certainly what, Ealey did was unwise and deserves stern punishment, but I don’t think it rises to the level of hitting your girlfriend in an argument over rent money (which I believe a player for an unnamed rival did and received a suspension for ONE GAME!).

Dbalcer I didn’t say that is why Ealey ran I am saying it is possible like the dawgs say HALL beat his girlfriend, but the charges were dropped and reduced. Did Ealey run because he knew he had a suspended license? Then he didn’t listen to the courts or his coaches. He DISed all people in authority because he thought he was better than the average person. If like people say and there was no damage to either car WHY did Ealey run? No Drugs or Alcohol then why run and not be arrested until almost 4 hours later? Why was he out at that time? I am sure he was just spening time in the LAB to finish his classworrk when the LAB was available. Right?

@thebar, you obviously haven’t been a parent yet of a college age kid. How is Washaun supposed to pay a speeding ticket? He is a student athlete, not much income in that gig. You can argue he shouldn’t have been speeding in the first place, but once it happens a kid needs help with that. If he were a marine he would have a salary and could pay his ticket, but he’s not so he couldn’t. I’m looking to maybe adopt in the next couple of years a needy deserving kid, make a difference in someones life, but I don’t think you would work, already too much damage there.

evc: my 2 sisters are adopted koreans. my parents spent many years to become adoptive parents. my sister and parents went through a few years of hard work to get my sister to ne naturalized Citizens. Ealey ran because he is an immature teenager. He knew he screwed up, and like most teenagers, he panicked. Does he deserve to be punished, of course he does, and the punishment should fit the crime. He did not hurt another person. Does he deserve to be humiliated even more than he already is, no, and neither does any other student that makes a stupid teenager mistake whether at UGA, Tech, Tenn, Fla, et al. What is most important is not what he did but what he learned. You don’t throw someone away and destroy a life just because they do something dumb like a teenager will sometimes do.

Those of you who think it is crazy these kids are getting arrested have obviously spend NO TIME in athens. It is almost impossible to not get into trouble in that city. He was driving with a suspended liscense, thats a fine at best usually, the hit and run is a little more serious, but for all the people complaining, did you complain last year when Brandon Spikes got a DUI and was only suspended by a half against Vandy. At least Richt is giving a legitimate punishment, he hasn’t said that Ealey will be back next week against South Carolina, he may not see action all season. Until Richt gives him the go to play, theres no room to complain.
