Police report: Ealey was driving teammate Hamilton’s car

From AJC correspondent Andy Johnston in Athens:

Georgia running back Washaun Ealey was driving teammate Jakar Hamilton’s car when he hit a UGA Parking Services pickup truck in the East Campus Parking Deck at 3:19 a.m. Friday, according to the incident report obtained from UGA Police today.

Ealey was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Impala owned by Margaret Hamilton when he hit a 2008 Ford Ranger owned by the university. According to the report, three Parking Services employees confronted Ealey at the time of the incident, but he left the scene before police could arrive.

The police determined the car belonged to Hamilton and arrested Ealey. He was charged with hit-and-run of a parked vehicle and driving on a suspended license. Ealey was released Friday morning.

Ealey, Georgia’s leading rusher with 717 yards as a freshman in 2009, has been suspended one game. Hamilton is a junior defensive back.

5150 P.O.A.D, while I greatly respect the values you explicate about, we are talking about a kid in a minor car accident. Nothing worth remembering for life. This is not a life and death situation.
Dishonor among elate athletes is not uncommon. Just ask Tiger and Roger.

Whatever happend to protecting your players? I bet if this would have happend at FSU or UF the three parking services employees would not have remembered who hit the truck.

Coach Richt should demote the players who screw up to the Scout Team and let the starters punish them during pratice until they earn their way back into the lineup.

My favorite in all of these is “it was the parking deck’s fault.”

This isn’t news. Who cares whose car he was driving. He was an idiot for driving, period. The owner of the car is irrelevant. Do something better with your time, Tim.

Vick=Dog killing Thug: Tech will play all the UGA players that look like the Official UGA Mascots. Sorry, I should not have said white players that was politically incorrect.

Sorry, but Ealey should not have been suspended, he should have been dismissed from the team and schlarship revoked! That is exactly what is wrong with the Bulldogs, coach Richt won’t set a strong discipline policy and players don’t sweat nothing in Athens!

When will we stop turning a bling eye to sports (or other ‘pop’) personalities imbroglios and failures? Run Ealey out of town on a bench, never to play again. No one is above the law. Due process, my eye. He ran, a presumptive finding is apropos.

Shame on the coaches for protecting any player. When did football become more important than values, ethics, and morals? Oh yeah, when they created the NCAA.

Ealey ran because he is an immature teenager. He knew he screwed up, and like most teenagers, he panicked. Does he deserve to be punished, of course he does, and the punishment should fit the crime. He did not hurt another person. Does he deserve to be humiliated even more than he already is, no, and neither does any other student that makes a stupid teenager mistake whether at UGA, Tech, Tenn, Fla, et al. What is most important is not what he did but what he learned. You don’t throw someone away and destroy a life just because they do something dumb like a teenager will sometimes do.

we sure had fun in college…… no criminals here.. just college kids… 1 game suspension fits the minor offense… will hurt Ealey’s season rushing yardage total… that’s fair…

Those of you who think it is crazy these kids are getting arrested have obviously spend NO TIME in athens. It is almost impossible to not get into trouble in that city. This is how they make all their money. They give out stupid tickets and harass people who are not breaking the law to get them to yell at the cops so they can be arrested.

While the rest of college football fans will be rooting their teams on Saturday, myself and the rest of the “real” Tech student body will be at Dragon Con for the entire day..and then we will move to Swinging Richards to attempt to break the Ripley’s world record for World’s Biggest Tickle Pile and if we don’t do it on the 4th we will be back to again attempt it on the 5th!

He was driving with a suspended liscense, thats a fine at best usually, the hit and run is a little more serious, but for all the people complaining, did you complain last year when Brandon Spikes got a DUI and was only suspended by a half against Vandy. At least Richt is giving a legitimate punishment, he hasn’t said that Ealey will be back next week against South Carolina, he may not see action all season. Until Richt gives him the go to play, theres no room to complain.

I say start the young man against South Carolina. Run him consecutively till he can’t go no mo. See if his conditioning has improved in the last weeks. Let’s play our best folks. Let them know that their best is expected on every play. This is the SEC. Time to Hunker Down>
