UGA will open 2012 football season vs. Buffalo

ATHENS — Georgia has agreed to open the 2012 football season against Buffalo, UGA associate athletic director Arthur Johnson said Thursday.

The game, which will be the first-ever meeting between Georgia and Buffalo in football, will be played Sept. 1, 2012, in Sanford Stadium.

Georgia will pay Buffalo $975,000 for the game, Johnson said. That matches the most UGA has agreed to pay an opponent to play in Sanford Stadium.

Also, Johnson said UGA is in the process of completing a deal with Georgia Southern to play in Athens during the 2012 season.

The Bulldogs had two openings on the ‘12 schedule and figured all along that one would be filled by Georgia Southern, which UGA is in the habit of playing once every four years. The Eagles played in Athens in 2000, 2004 and 2008.  To preserve maximum scheduling “flexibility,” Johnson said he wanted to complete negotiations on the other game — Buffalo, as it turned out — before finalizing a Georgia Southern deal.

WHY??? THIS KIND OF CRAP ON THE SCHEDULE IS ABSURD. Tickets cost $45 a piece for this?! Idaho State Potato College, Buffalo (is it the Bills?), Georgia Southern? No way they could not find better opponents. I guess with Evans out, any decent matchups are off the table now. McGarity will hear from me.

For the sake of clarity, “GSU” is Georgia State University. Call Georgia Southern something else.

100 bucks that Southern has more wins than Tech over the next 5 years. Any takers? Oh, and anyone who honestly believe that Ga State will pass Tech OR Southern anytime soon is seriously delusional.

It is IAA ball, but GA Southern made 8 title game appearances and won 6 national championships in a 15 year period……and in a playoff format! No other school in IA or IAA has had a run like that….Ever. Pretty impressive.

I want Boise State’s schedule… 2 ranked teams all season… LOL.. You can’t complain because we usually play 5-7 ranked teams each season. Thats life in the SEC. Take the cupcakes you can only have 2 per season anyways.

For $975, couldn’t you get someone a little better than this bunch? I am glad that I dropped my tickets as I for one got tired of the “hassle of game day” for the likes of LLAY, Idaho St., and now Buffalo? Next up may be FIU, Mary& William, or maybe even West Ga. What a lame bit of scheduling!

Tech Buzz, two years ago GT played Jacksonville St., and Gardner Webb so I wouldn’t joke about scheduling. Some of us still haven’t forgot that GT lost to Furman 17-14 in 1983 and had to kick a field goal to tie Furman in ‘86 17-17 hah !
Panther Power, UGA needs to play GaState ? NOT ! UGA is “Yah Daddy ! ” in NCAA Athletics , and PAUL JOHNSON”S …,until Ga. State beats Georgia Southern on the gridiron you’l just be the “wanna be ” GSU .in college football …renters !
Georgia Southern is scheduled for Ga Tech in 2015.

Georgia does

No guts, no glory. Business as usual for a tanked program looking to try and climb back into the rankings. Hell, even FSU is opening with OU….oh that’s right, UGA opened with OSU and got their helmets handed to them last year. That weak Big 12 is overrated.

Open with Alabama. Texas, or even Miami, then the media might give you some respect…then again maybe not. As Schultz, UGA has lost he benefit of the doubt, but hell, most folks in Georgia knew that a long time ago.

I suppose everyone in Athens is becoming accustomed to mediocre, and why not, you lose at everything besides tennis and ladies gymnastics.

I agree, these type teams are just scared, plain and simple. You have to play them all anytime anywhere to be a champion.
